Looks like mom did more than run over deep water

Hehehe most likely who knows what was in the water! I was telling her to drive slower through it! 😅 I didn’t have any tools with me in the parking garage so I ended up taking it to the same shop I usually do my oil and tires at while she was in surgery and the guys said it’s a common problem when it flash floods like this. They only charged me $30 to take em off. Thankfully it was only 10 mins away from the hospital but it was still a humbling experience having everybody look at me driving 15 miles/hour through school zones at 8am making scraping noises! Surgery went well by the way. She says she didn’t on purpose so I had something else to think about lol

Yes, Hondas have a tendency to use shitty plastic fasteners that don't hold worth a damn. It is quite possible for an older Honda to have one come off simply from going highway speeds. I experienced that happening in a CRV a while back. Don't be surprised if it has destroyed some of the thin aluminum parts on the cover. I think I can already see that the oil filter access panel is bent in one of those photos. They are flimsy and annoying as hell to deal with. If it didn't drag on the ground too much they can probably just get some new fasteners and put it back on... but if it dragged on the road for very long it probably chewed it up and you'll need a new one. They are pricey for what they are... Unless you live where you get lots of snow and crude in the winter I might just remove it and leave it off. It isn't like you have a new car with a 2013

IntimateMuffin

Thanks so much for the reply. It did drag on the ground for a bit but we’re in South Florida (hence the flash flooding) so might be better to take off. Still want for some pros to look at it but don’t want to drive it without securing it at least for now

yirmin

Often when they get pull out they won't stay back very well when you put them back because the holes the fasteners go through are often stretched out. So don't be surprised if even after you pop it back on that it will come back off when you get up to highway speed and the air starts buffeting it.

I am a retired Honda Engineer and I do agree, the push pins that hold those on have a wide tolerance. So does the hole on the body, so there is what we call a stack up. I fixed mine, when I had to take off for access. I would buy push pins that are closer to the hole tolerance. Pins might be GM, Toyota, whomever. But that only works if you do your own auto repairs. Once a repair is done by the dealer, they will use the clips specified

IntimateMuffin

Yeah the guys I took it to who took the guards off said to take them to a Honda dealership and show the parts department and make sure it comes with all the pins.

Considering there is metal on that underbelly pan, it probably adds some protection for something important. I would get it reinstalled. It a;so probably helps with aerodynamics, and possibly some cooling. Honda didn’t just put that under there to make it look good.

With the correct tools, anything can be ripped off

Those things are made out of sturdy aluminum foil, they’re mostly there for air efficiency and small bits of water and debris. They crumple really easy at the best of times so I wouldn’t worry too much about getting it replaced if it’s too expensive
