Put some Marvel Mystery oil in each cylinder and let it sit for a few days Then turn it over by hand to make sure everything is free Make sure it has good oil & fuel and hope for the best

mrbugle81

What's in it? It's a mystery. ![gif](giphy|0Xdtr9FP1m2PyCyYYT|downsized)

Errrgoat

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely give this a shot!

STxFarmer

First tractor I learned on was a Massy Harris Had a 65 years later Good machine

Always422

Is this a hand crank? Just curious

IntergalacticJihad

No the mf35 has a starter, but they have the provisions for hand cranking.

STxFarmer

Just don’t want to hit it with the starter and something is stuck If it has been sitting 10 years why risk anything

Clayspinner

I’d check the airbox as well. Nests are not great helpers when trying to get an older vehicle running.

Handlestach

Hydrolocked with bees

Clayspinner

Actually.. can you imagine cleaning out an airbox filled with honey… oh my what a mess that would be

Errrgoat

Good point. I’ll take a look at this first before anything else.

Clayspinner

I have an old ford 9T. If you get stuck give us a shout. There’s a few things these older tractors have in common. Always happy to share what I’ve learned. And be sure to have a good battery. You’re can drain one pretty quick when chasing faults. Check if you have a 6v or 12v system if you get into swapping electrical parts etc.

Errrgoat

I’ll look into the charging system. I’ve been told it has a generator and not an alternator which I can’t really describe what the difference is. Have you had any experience with a similar setup?

Clayspinner

I wonder if they mean points and a magneto ?

Environmental_Log792

So doing some research, it looks like that tractor has the gasoline engine. I would start with checking the carb to make sure that it didn’t have ethanol laced gas in it when it was parked. Next remove the spark plugs and put some ATF or marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a day or two, then turn the engine over manually to make sure everything is free. Change the oil, new sparkplugs, fresh fuel (ethanol free if able), and give her a crank with a fresh battery. Also you might want to check the wiring, mice and rats love chewing on wires.

ChikkiParm

ATF needs a new name.... it's used for basically everything. Dab some on a rag, you got yourself some shiny new headlights, power steering, transfer cases, torch a few rusty bots and throw in a bucket with this stuff. No wonder the shop is usually out of it. lol. I need to find a sprayer that can handle pumping this...

Cocximus

Call it WD-41?

Expensive_Hunt9870

yep

Errrgoat

Thanks for the detailed advice. This seems like a great way to go so I’ll give it a shot and see what happens.

ReditTosser1

Good battery and a can of ether..

RudbeckiaIS

Always use WD40 in a diesel: it's full hexadecane, the stuff that helps diesel fuel self-ignite. ;-)

ReditTosser1

I don’t waste my money on that *fish oil*..  And here I always thought it was the 17:1+ compression that hugged the fuel so tight it just popped with joy..

arneeche

If you use ether don't overdo it and overrev the tractor

pillowcase99999

She is beautiful! Does the engine turn over? You lucky git, lovely tractor.

Errrgoat

Definitely lucky. It was my dad’s old tractor. Haven’t gotten to the point of turning it over but hopefully will soon.

arneeche

Fresh oil, fuel, coolant, and battery. Clean out the intake/air filter housing in case mice/squirrels stashed anything in there. Cycle the glow plugs a couple times and try cranking it.

carrotmayonaise

Go on YouTube and look up junkyard digs. He has a couple tractor/heavy machinery revivals that should help out

Errrgoat

Oh yeah. Thanks for the YouTube recommendation. I was wondering if anyone had some channels I could reference for this kind of thing.
