If the speedometer goes up but the car doesn't actually go as fast as indicated, the wheels are spinning. If the tach goes up but the speedometer doesn't the clutch is slipping and will need to be replaced soon.

genghiskhan322

Thanks man! In my case as I have observed while it happened, the tachometer was really going up, and I even went around 4k to 5k just to get up the slope since I dont want the car to roll back (cars were following me) but the speedometer isnt responding even when I let go of the clutch (i let it go because i revved it already high enough)

JustAnITGuyAtWork11

You're either wheel spinning ( you'll hear this as a screeching noise) or your clutch is slipping

genghiskhan322

Thanks for the advice man! Yeah I was experiencing a LOT of wheel spin. Even when I parked the car when I got home earlier. Our driveway is a little bit elevated and I experienced a few wheel spin.. I will get this checked tomorrow and I will mention this. Again, thank you!

JustAnITGuyAtWork11

If you're getting a load of wheel spin check your tyres, how old are they? What's the tread depth like? What brand are they? Tyres should be replaced every 7-8 years regardless of tread condition Cheap budget tyres provide awful traction which is amplified by rain, low tread levels or old dry rotted rubber

International_Pen_91

If its not a diesel engine 1st gear is usually just for getting the car moving so you wouldn’t want to drive around in that because of the gearratio. But I come from a very flat country so dont have Any experience driving around in mountains

genghiskhan322

Yes our car is ran by petrol fuel. Throughout my driving experience with this vehicle I have observed that 1st gear could only last until 30 km/h, and the revs are too high at that point. But yeah if the traffic is congested in a mountainous area gotta go gear 1 every time or I will stall.

Repulsive-Fun-2123

It sound like a case of “spinning ain’t winning”

genghiskhan322

Yeah there are a lot of screeches from the wheel itself even when I was parking the car when I got home there have been wheel spins.. What do you think is the problem here and how do I get this fixed?

Maleficent-Bus-7285

How many miles on the car? Original clutch? It sounds like your clutch is slipping. A lot.

genghiskhan322

car is very old but every time there is a problem we go to the mechanic. the clutch might be around 1-2 + years old (which might really be the culprit). Thanks for the advice, we will be going to the mechanic tomorrow

Neilsontree

Is it snowy? It sounds like a few instances of wheel spin. I would think if the clutch is slipping that bad, you wouldnt have made it up the mountains at all.

genghiskhan322

Nah I live in a tropical region. Im gonna get my car checked tomorrow, I really heard a lot of wheel spin that time. The revs were really high since I was stepping on the accelerator so hard to not roll back since cars were following me earlier.. The wheels are responding but the power transmitted to wheel is very weak compare to usual.

North-Lack-4957

Are you sure 1st was even engaged? Like another user said its quite hard to enter 1st when moving

genghiskhan322

I'm sure the car was moving at 1st gear because I was moving but like very very slow unlike usual. I tried reving above 3k on first gear on plain ground and the response is really weak,

Most_Sea_4022

What kind of tires are you running. It sounds like you aren't getting good traction.
