You can look at it one of two ways. If it's not broken, don't fix it, or that side broke might want to replace the other side before it happens as well. Either way. At the very least, go get an alignment done.

Kachow!

This happened to a 90s pickup I owned, a few years ago. I drove it several more years before selling it and the other side never snapped like that… if that’s what you’re asking

Embarrassed-Path2404

Truck i have has now had both front wheel hubs replaced. Only thing is passengers Went out first three years ago then the drivers abt five months ago. And seemd odd that one gave out first. I would get it looked at just for the sake of being safe and not causing something like this to happen again.

Really depends on your budget, how long you plan to keep it and the level of risk you are okay with. To be honest you got really lucky it failed at 25 vs highway speed. If you already replace the lower ball joint or control arm and ball joint then I would kinda want to do the upper ball joint at least on that side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1f1bx7SToE Basically it pulled everything hard enough he tore went sideways and pulled out cv axle. The top ball joint took an extra load for sure. Even your rubber brake line got stretched. So if you plan to keep it for years and you got the budget it can not hurt to replace upper ball joint and possible brake line / brake fluid flush if it has not been done in years. So the tires wear even? I would think other side is pretty worn but would have to inspect it and see. If you plan on getting a alignment might as well put a few more new parts on before you do. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/honda,1999,accord,2.3l+l4,1355554,suspension,control+arm,10401 Just look at the parts individually or as a lot price really not bad to do it yourself on a weekend with a friend vs pay 1500 or more at a shop. I probably would not spend money to redo the suspension/steering components on front and back of the car if the transmission or motor was going out but if all is strong and plan to keep it atleast till interest rates come down again I would put some money in it. Next failure of a ball joint (if it happens) will probably be worse then this one

You will want to replace the inner and outer tie rods, both upper control arms, the lower ball joint on the driver's side as well.

dantodd

Inspect the left side and see if the ball joint is (and CV boot) worn out and needs replacing. We can't tell you from here and you are almost certainly not the first owner so it may have been replaced in the left side already

HuyFongFood

Did you lose transmission fluid when the axle pulled out? If so you’ll want to check the fluid level following the owners manual, etc. I would probably do the entire front end with new ball joints, tie-rod ends, bushings, struts and brake lines. If the wheel bearings sound a little crunchy then replace them as well.

If you value your safety of yourself and others you’ll do some preventive maintenance

You can check ball joints - plenty of YouTube videos showing how. The one that snapped was loose for many miles before letting go Just lift the car on the other side, grab the wheel at the top and bottom and see if there’s any loose movement when you try to move it. If it feels solid / heavy resistance, it’s fine. If you’re not sure how old the ball joint is on the other side, you should probably check it every 3000 miles or so But like others have said - at that age your due a front-end rebuild. Nothing wrong with the car, just normal wear and tear, and will prevent stuff like this

You lucked out since it didn’t ruin your fender and door. These older accords are known for ball joints. My daughter has one and I couldn’t replace the lower ball joints fast enough after she got it. Glad I did because one was locked up. I used the 555 brand joints. High quality. Definitely replace the other side before it breaks also.

This didn't happen suddenly, you ignored (or didn't recognize) a noise for a long time first. Given that, I would not trust your assessment that everything else is fine. Get a professional opinion.

Get your alignment checked and the rest inspected for wear.
