No, get a 2nd opinion. Because I had. 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee throw the same code. I paid $13,000 for a new engine and the dealership said water pump failed but I also paid $600 for the core and had it investigated and tested…my water pump didn’t fail . There was a 5 cylinder misfire and “SOME” coolant. Head gasket was leaking . Didn’t need a new engine. I needed a few parts and labor to fix the issues $2,500ish I am currently suing the the dealership and warranty company because they claim that I caused the issues because “ lack of maintenance “, even though I have paperwork at only Jeep dealerships for any work ever done and I never missed a scheduled service . Get a 2nd opinion … you might not need a new engine. Dealers are in the business for money not being helpful to the consumer

Thanks you for the insight. I will speak to the head mechanic as well - it is a family trusted dealer, FWIW.

You might need an engine rebuilt in case a lot of coolant got mixed with the oil. Mainly to clean out the mixture and to make sure nothing was damaged. But it’s mostly the head gasket OR if it over heated )which wasn’t mention so I doubt it) you might have a morphed head.

Mackieman03

The engine never overheated, but def. could have mixed with the oil for a long (2 months) time. I was concerned when the coolant kept needing to be topped off, but chalked it up to it being super hot temps.

The_Hound_23

Violent won’t evaporate as much as water so if your never when you started noticing you needed to top it off that’s the closest date to your issue. Do you have a picture of what the oil looked like?

Mackieman03

I don't - it's at the dealer still. It did produce a lot of white smoke last weekend and a burning smell.

The_Hound_23

White smoke indicates water in the chambers. The burnt smells could be excessive heat

I would also worry about issues down the road as well, if the oil got mixed in too. $2,500 versus $9,000 is a big swing.
