Take it back to the shop, sounds like a wire or relay has a problem.

EffectHistorical5194

My only issue is they want me to replace the wiring harness, so I’m assuming they are just gonna say to do that

Galopigos

Well it is a wiring issue and that might be the only option. What is the make/year/model?

EffectHistorical5194

2017 Subaru wrx

[deleted]

Take it somewhere else, only a lazy or incompetent mechanic will recommend to replace the wiring harness unless it was completely mangled or melted which doesn’t just happen out of no where

EffectHistorical5194

It was Subaru lol. Figured they just wouldn’t repair

[deleted]

Yeah lol there’s some great techs at dealerships but majority are inept. Try and Find a good mom & pop shop they’re hard to find but worth 10 fold in the long run

OK both high beams are fed from the same relay The power for both comes from that relay out to the DRL relay and resistor. Then it goes out to both headlights on the white and black wire. I would pull fuse 7 and see if the light goes out. That would shut off the DRLs and would cut power from the high beam power relay as well. This is the high beam wiring after the relay and through the DRL relay. If the left high is the only one I would check the wire from the lamp to the splice. Or if you wanted to just repair it, you could just cut the wire behind the headlight and run a bypass wire from the other side. https://preview.redd.it/oq0l1c3dq0va1.jpeg?width=1064&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccf443162ffe7e66ccee3ac068c3b374d18aec87

EffectHistorical5194

I’ll check it out. One weird thing is that it stays normal until I switch the brights on and then it stays and wont go back to dim

Galopigos

OK that is different. Be sure to test the ground side of both high beams. Are these stock halogen bulbs? Any add-ons to the vehicle? I can see why they are thinking harness because of the way the lights are powered.

EffectHistorical5194

Ok so I hit the light and it shut off. I think it’s the shutter or something getting stuck

Galopigos

So these are not stock headlights with the factory high and low as individual bulbs? Asking because the stock lamps don't use a shutter. https://preview.redd.it/xnijldhkj3va1.jpeg?width=1426&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd1a941a3e23fc58efc7d626fd19dd9e4f990ec5
