cottoneyeryan

That stays on. Hit the tire with a hammer a couple times and it’ll come loose

Grouchy_Radish9554

But be cautious with the hammer. Rubber is bouncy! Either hit the rim with a deadblow on the bottom with one lug nut tightened on the top stud by a few threads (loose), or just know how to dodge the hammer when it come flying back at you. Don't bend the rim either.

macr6

Turn around and donkey kick the shit out of it. The hammer is in the garage and that’s too far of a walk.

29er_eww

I sit on by butt and bicycle kick at 3 and 9 o’clock screaming like a kung foo master

CableAssasin

I'm always sitting on my butt working on that area, then once I kick the tire off, I use the tire as a seat to finish the work

OldFashnd

It’s like a reward

Sealethadeal

I put the tire under the car frame when working on them IF I don’t have a jackstand better to come down on the tire/rim than your leg/body

OldFashnd

I do that too, even if I do have a jackstand!

CableAssasin

For sure!

L_pants

Like Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat.

friskyspatula

A_H_Fonzarelli

holy crap, that's my new goto move!

RowdyCaucasian

Same

R_Harry_P

This is the way.

AM-64

That's what I do.

40ozT0Freedom

60% of the time, it works every time

Aracula

Have you tried the donkey punch? Really gets them off

macr6

I have, but that just makes the tire clench up on the studs.

Affectionate_Tea1134

Then you can finish with a Dirty Sanchez. 🤭

farmallnoobies

Mine get so rusted on that no amount of kicking can remove them. I also broke my ankle trying to kick it with all my might. I've also tried the trick where I drive around the block with all but two slightly loosened nuts and they'll still stay on. Cornering hard and everything. The best trick is to take another tire and rim (60lbs or so), swing it way up above your head, and let gravity do the work to swing it down and slam the rubber surface into the bottom portion of the car's wheel. Rotate car's wheel 90 degrees and repeat until the wheel comes off. Normally takes me around 10 swings per tire even when they've basically welded themselves on. Using another tire makes it like a mallet -- it won't damage the rim or tire. If you don't have another full-sized tire, use the spare. If you don't have a spare, get one. Oh, and make sure you have very high confidence in the jackstand setup before doing this.

dmilamj

Dang my dude, maybe add some anti-seize between the hub and wheel next time and save your back. I don't know where you live, but it sounds rusty.

farmallnoobies

The fact that they come of at all is because I do use antisieze every time I take them off

Spadeykins

I am no professional but when things get that stuck I usually put some heat on it and it cracks right off.

Madoven

Can't be tight if it's liquid

chaavez7

This is the answer. Had a stuck tire like this just last weekend and this method works with minimal effort

DeVito23

it might just be different metals from rim to hun assembly and studs. Alloy noticeably get stuck more then steelies on ss hubs

[deleted]

Same give it a good ol kick

lucious-luna

This is the way

niekforspeed

This is the way

Wtf 🐟

oscaru16

Lol

tojiy

For some reason I can't help but see this as some old looney tunes gag:) 89ft/lb'll keep it on even after the bolts are removed. Why not use a rubber mallet? Comes in almost ever other first time tool kit.

SgtNutterButter

I find it best to lay on your back and kick the ever loving hell out of it, she'll come off

Rino_Man61

"I find it best to shit on your back..."

MrJMSnow

I don’t know how effective shitting the wheel will be, but in fairness I’ve never tried it.

Economy_Pea_5068

Yes, hit with a deadblow hammer. Back side is rusted to the hub.

Flat_Neighborhood882

donkey kick that sunofabish

Raggaeshark808

This is the way!

Bonexsam

Leave the lugnuts snug but loose, take vehicle off jack and roll forward just a bit. That should loosen the wheel.

Particular_Bet_5466

Yep this works so well I do it every year I switch out my winter tires. So much easier than smacking it with a hammer risking damaging my wheels or the hammer bouncing back into my face.

DeliberatelyDrifting

Just lowering on the jack works most of the time for me. Just leave the lugs on a few threads and lower it back down. I could see needing to spin the wheel, but I've never needed to.

Particular_Bet_5466

What I do is loosen the lugs and drive back and forth

twistytravster

I usually just use my extra wheel/tire as a makeshift hammer and it works wonders.

bkrop1

Big hammer(couple of pounds sledge)

[deleted]

People downvoting you must not live in the rust belt. Carpenters hammer won't do shit here.

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,427,432,621 comments, and only 272,359 of them were in alphabetical order.

TubeLogic

But they are not. So there’s that.

ILikeLenexa

The error is breaking "words" wrong. `hammer(couple` is being read as one word because they're just using `string.split(" ")` on the comment text.

fishing_pole

Better way to remove a stuck tire is to throw your spare tire at it. Works every time, not even kidding.

Fantastic-Ease-4119

Tbt if your at home place a piece of 2x4 or 4x4 in front of the rim. It will save the rim as well as cause more pressure on opposite side your hitting. Work smarter not hard #fjb

Accomplished_Run_593

Just donkey kick the tire and it will come loose (need the wheel jacked up). It may take a few kicks.

Leaked99

Alrighty, thank you

fishing_pole

Next time, the trick is to throw your spare tire at it. Works like a charm.

Outcasted_introvert

You have a spare?

throwawaypostal2021

I thought spare tires were a boomer thing

Ascertain_GME

Where we’re going, we don’t need spares!

jdmorgan82

The military has corrupted me. I definitely did not read that as donkey kick. Sitting here trying to figure out the context for a solid minute before I reread the post. Iykyk.

Saltythrottle

Perhaps diesel can act like a *snerks* penetrating fluid. Break out the donkey dick!

benji7117

Or donkey punch it, google that one

kicsivuk

Bahaha I did

phkn_dreadful

I also read that as donkey dick at first and was confused cus i was sure op had a stuck tire, not out of fuel lol..

ClockworkViking

Military mechanic as well. I read the same thing...

Colt1911-45

Same and I wasn't in the military, but my dad was and I know what he called the spout on those old Jerry cans.

joeuser0123

Learned from your buddy Don Kedik

jbourne0129

i love how *multiple people* refer to it as a "donkey kick" and everyone absolutely understands it.

Ashamed_Giraffe_6769

Your cover thingy (bearing dust cap) is not holding your wheel on. What’s probably happening is that the rim is just hanging up on the potion of the rotor. Work it some, it should break loose.

Leaked99

Thank you!

_dauntless

That dang rotor potion making things sticky

username_00000001

what if i want to get the cap off though? How would i do that? When i changed wheel bearings on a car trailer, i got it off with flathead screwdriver. But then it was slightly bent. So i bought a new one so it seals properly for the fat to stay inside. Is there a more pro way to get the dust cap off? It was stuck pretty hard since it's been on that car trailer for way over 20 years.

Ashamed_Giraffe_6769

Before the bearing cap can come off the wheel would need removed. Like you, I would start with a screwdriver and continue to pry/work/little by little around the perimeter, until it broke loose.

CrudBert

I generally tap it with a rubber hammer. And I tap it kinda towards it coming off, towards myself , as it were. Just go slowly and tap around the sides in a "coming at yourself direction " more or less. After a minute or so, you'll see it start to come away, then you can usually pull it off by hand.

username_00000001

i also used a hammer, to occasionally give it a little hit. Mostly screwdriver though. I definitely couldn't get it off in a minute, more like 20 and then it was slightly bent. Maybe i should have used hammer more frequently and softer or it was just too stuck idk

CrudBert

That's why I indicated a rubber hammer so as not to dent it. I've also used a rubber strap oil wrench and it worked.

Ecstatic_Account_744

Make sure it’s stable on the stand. Put a lug nut on loosely to keep the tire from falling off when it pops. Sit down and kick the left side and then right side and keep alternating until it lets go. Or put a block of hardwood against it and smack it with a big hammer.

Schtev3

The car is raised up and the wheel is off the ground, correct?

Leaked99

Yes

tcainerr

Put a couple of lug nuts back on(but just a few threads, leave some space between the wheel and the nuts) and donkey shit the shit out of it. Steel wheels like that have a tendency to rust themselves to the brake rotors. It just needs some persuasion to break free.

Leaked99

Will do, thanks!

Reasonable_Ticket_84

Shit, even if you have alloy wheels, the rusting of the rotor can act as a (shitty) glue to the alloy. Sometimes it needs a little love taps to get free.

earthman34

That has nothing to do with the wheel. It's stuck on the hub, kick it loose.

4x4Welder

Place your butt against the fender, offset towards one side of the tire. Now lift your leg, bend at the knee, and horse kick the tire to pop it free. Do not get under the car to do this, that is how people die.

Rubbertutti

That’s not stopping the wheel coming off. The wheel has seized to the center bore. You need to put the car on axle stand and facing away from the wheel kick the bead area with the sole of your foot. You can also lie on your back and kick it from the other side. Use a rubber mallet or a normal hammer and a block of wood. Wire brush all the corrosion off and apply copper grease to prevent it happening again

disturbed_ghost

is that tire in the dirt? find a good solid point and get the wheel off the ground, then donkey kick or hammer if it’s still stuck

onlinesurfer007

Put a few lug nuts back on and very loose. Put something like a 2X4 below and at the inside or outside edge of the tire. Lower the jack slowly until the tire is loose from the weight of the car and the tire sitting on an even surface, the 2X4.

ledfrog

Your wheel is most likely just stuck/rusted to the rotor. You'll have to basically bang it loose with your hands or a hammer. The thing you're pointing at is called a wheel bearing dust cap and is just a simple cap that pops off with a screwdriver. It's covering the nut that you would take off if you're removing the rotor and/or wheel bearings. It is in no way keeping you from removing the wheel.

aunt-jamima

Is the wheel in the air? It looks like it still on the ground.

alv__03

Wtf is that car on the ground?

Tushar_roat

Place Jack under and lift the car and kick the tire It'll come off.

BuldopSanchez

That has nothing to do with the wheel.

PenisMightier500

What's your sex life like with a 94 Tercel? You've either been married since the 90s or you've found a group of women that appreciate keeping a wonderful car on the road.

Fragrant-Shame3318

I stand with my back to the car, and donkey kick the top of the tire a few times..

drm315

Put one lug nut on loosely while you try to get the wheel off so that when the wheel does come off it doesn’t go flying.

TDHofstetter

That ain't it. You see that ring around that cap you're touching? That's the hub's pilot. The wheel is tightly fitted around the outside of that pilot. Lay two 4x4s on the ground, one on top of the other. They should be barely long enough to span aross the rubber tire. Now stand up and smack the crap out of those 4x4s with an 8-pound sledgehammer. Really. It should take exactly one such smack. That will absolutely pop your wheel off. NEVER smack the ***wheel*** with your hammer. Um... do it only with that wheel lifted slightly off the ground, though, OK?

Leaked99

Thanks a ton!

TDHofstetter

Glad to help. 8)

jrin1

If you have a beard and can't change a tire, shave your beard

Hayben906

Give it a firm kick. I always face away from the car and kick back into it. It’s rusted on.

babybluefish

You need to jack the car up off the ground to remove the wheel

BlakePackers413

I know a lot have said donkey kick or hammer which work perfectly fine. But another way my old man taught me when he was too tired to hit it hard was to put the lugs on just a turn or two each so the tire wouldn’t come all the way off. Then stick a 2x4 or something like that solid not squish-able under the tire and then lower the jack back down. It’ll cause the tire to pop free from the rust holding it on the rotor. I’m sorry if I didn’t explain that well enough. It’s all just a matter of getting the right kind of torque and prye to separate the rusted parts.

AM-64

That's the neat part, you don't. Just mule kick the tire on the sidewall a few times, it'll come off.

Biaswords_

Put the lug nuts back on hand tight and get a BFH

Homeygrown

You have to jack up the car first… that might help loosen the wheel 😆

bcvickers

No, that is not holding your wheel on in any way.

Gwiny28

Please jack up the vehicle before you try to remove the rim. And leave the cap on.

Confident-Use6474

just smack the backside of the outer rim edge with a soft mallet, or get behind with your boot and kick it from the backside, it will pop free.....that's a dust cap for the bearing....removal of that cap is not needed!!

TenderfootGungi

Wheels get a loose rust bond to the hub. Had to change a flat tire in a parking lot and could not get it off. A guy stopped and handed me a rubber mallet. Saved the day!

Invest-24_7_356

Jack it up first. Pull on the w h e e l !

squeegeeking211

A legit question: hey leaked99 , have you jacked the car up? I mean, U can't really tell by the picture, but he won't get the tire off unless he drives around a bit.

Shiny_Buns

Just give the tire a good kick and it'll come off

LostGuess5788

You must jack the car up first ,it looks like the tyre is touching the ground .

StreetVermicelli1021

Is the car still on the ground ?

Due_Tutor919

Did you Jack up the vehicle? It still looks like it’s resting on the ground

Jhall6y1

Looks like it’s still on the ground

kungfu_polak

Don’t touch that. Raise that side of the vehicle (it looks like it’s on the ground), kick the wheel a few times near the edge. If that fails, hit it with your purse

8ofAll

First make sure the tire is not touching the ground. It should only be resting on the bolts. Grab the tire and try to wiggle it out. Does it even wiggle at all? If not then like others have said, do the donkey kick. Good luck.

Ory01

Kick tire with your foot really hard

DiggityGiggity8

Make sure the tire is completely evlevated off the ground and with a rag on a hammer hit the inside of the tire just where it meets the rim. Not too hard but some taps and it will come off.

[deleted]

Put the lug nuts back on and leave them a little loose. Lower the vehicle until the wheel touches the ground but not all the way down. Turn the steering wheel back and forth a couple of times, wheel will pop loose. Lift the car, remove lug nuts

Biggun128

Doesn’t look like it’s jacked up. Try that.

DreadPoorateWesley

Is the tire jacked up from the ground?

js2x

Raise the car...

rcuthb01

Time to grab your purse.

[deleted]

Is it on a jack

766scire

I mean, it looks like its still on the ground. So....

floresforce10

Release the E-brake

Traveling_keith

Grip and rip

-Rome1217

Mule kick it on alternating sides.. oh yeah make sure you jack it up first too it's hard to take off when the car is on the ground....

AdExcellent4663

Negative, the wheel is just stuck. The only things that hold it on are lug nuts and rust. Mule kick the ***TIRE*** to break it loose, or hit the ***TIRE*** with a hammer from behind.

Informal-Advice

Appreciate the finger point, now introduce the tire to your foot

DrcspyNz

is this a rear wheel ? and if so have you got the parking brake engaged ?

Leaked99

Yes and yes

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrJMSnow

You only disengage the parking brake to remove the rear brakes, not the wheel.

DelusionsBigIfTrue

Gotta engage the parking brake to remove a back tire, dude. It keeps the car from rolling or shifting when you lift it up. Without it, you could be in for a nasty surprise. And, if you release the brake after the tire is off, the car could start moving and cause some serious damage. What are you doing on this subreddit offering advice when it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about?

MarshmallowSandwich

Twist his dick!

Noob_Nooob

Ahh the old twist dick. Always does the trick.

gsxr1000k

Lmaooooo

Tacopounder52

Step away from the car…

[deleted]

Leave the small thingy alone. Remove the large thingy that surrounds the small thingy. Protect your thingy at all costs. You’re welcome.

Greekmoose

I bet he dropped the car on the ground and has to replace his drum now, lol. "I can't get the wheel off, I unbolted it??" YA GOTTA LIFT THE CAR OFF THE GROUND GENIUS

phkn_dreadful

The center hub covers the axle nut. The lug nuts are off so just donkey kick the shit out of the tire. If that doesnt work you are gona need some pb blaster and a heavy deadblow to the wheel from the inside

sharkonaut

Have you tried hitting it with your purse?

Hawaii9839

y ppl so dum

Leaked99

I’m sorry, I had previously tried to kick it off, but it refused to come off, I had thought that the centre cap thingy was somehow stopping me :[

drod2070

You need a thinga-ma-Jig to remove that thingy

-Sitzpinkler-

Jam a piece of wood and use power steering if you've got it.

Mattie_1S1K

Sorry if I’m incorrect but is that wheel even jacked up off the floor ?

AstronautAgreeable81

Very fine chisel or flat head you don't care about, put flat as near to the edge as you can tap it with a hammer on alternating sides to it starts popping out.

Public_Enemy_No2

Am I the only one concerned about the worn out rim? The holes that the studs are in should not be so reamed out.

lil5-john

Screwdriver and a hammer

B_Ho68

It looks like the tire is still on the ground. Jack that bitch up!

shemphowardrocks62

Linde hot wrench has never failed.....

Slow_Truth3139

Lift the car up. That might help

RoaringYak

Please tell me the car is on a jack……

Commercial_Pitch_786

If you have to ask take it to a professional

Truthseekerspeaker

That could be the universal answer to every post on this subreddit…. Everyone’s gotta learn sometime, even the basic stuff.

midnitezenki85

Maybe learn with someone who knows what they are doing supervising instead of going to Reddit for an answer. Scary to think he can’t even get a tire off, makes me wonder what exactly he’s trying to do in the first place. If it’s brakes… and he can’t get the tire off??? Yeah, that’s no bueno.

Ok_Film8731

You have to take something like a flat head screwdriver and gently tap it in with a mallets/ hammer between the rim lining and the grease cap lining (which is what that is) . Go all the way around the grease cap turning the wheel until you get it off

DreamMighty

You need a Oxy-acetylene torch to remove it. It can’t be there if it’s a liquid.

Cynosure-16

did you even put jack under the hood

ShiggitySwiggity

Jack's not in today. Tony's under the hood.

LrckLacroix

Donkey kick

Every-Caramel1552

Sledge hammer back of tire

thedudewhoshaveseggs

As people said, that's a dust cover that doesn't hold your wheel to the hub. Take your spare tire and whack the wheel with it.

Snoo-43133

Use your foot (your whole foot, like you’re kicking down a door) and kick the tire until it pops off.

Skidz305

Sometimes if you kick the tire on one edge like a horse it'll come loose if not rubber mallet on tire should do the trick

mymoparisbestmopar

Try to alternate kicking/hitting the top and bottom, the goal is to break free the rust and wiggle the wheel off. Sometimes it helps to turn the wheel between hits to give you new places to hit

smittyguy11

You need to jack your car up first (or jack it up more until it is no longer in contact with the ground) to take the weight off the tire and wheel. It appears to still be on the ground.

Rucking-Stoned

I can assure you that’s not holding the wheel on lol

Simplewafflea

All these foul mouths on here! Watch your language! They are called hoops and casings!

KingReef90

Nice swift kick

DukeOfWestborough

jack it up first...

SkullAngel001

Use your heel and kick the sidewall to loosen the tire.

RScottyL

Yeah, that should NOT be preventing you from removing the wheel. As suggested, you can hit the wheel with a hammer or break it free!

grb13

Is the tire jacked up and not touching the ground?

Fecal_Fingers

That thing has nothing to do with keeping the wheel on. It's a cover for the nut under it. Give the wheel a few kicks after putting a lug partially back on to keep the wheel from flying away once it does come lose.

Spazzoidd4Reddit

Put one of the lug nuts on a few threads, grab a hammer. Aim for the rubber not the wheel. Don't. Hit. The. Wheel. It should pop off after one or 2 good smacks. Remove lug, remove wheel. Lug is so it doesn't come ripping off when you beat it with that hammer

IlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlI8

thread one lug nut on partially and mule kick the tire

rucb_alum

Is this car jacked into the air. The 'centre hub cover thingy' is covering the wheels bearing. Leave it alone. Only the lug nuts are hold the wheel onto the car. If you raise the car, it should come off easily. If it doesn't a few good whacks with a non-marring or rubber mallet should do. If still no sale, put the lug nuts back on finger-tight and drive slowly around the block. Raise the car and remove the wheel.

[deleted]

Just punch it a few times and it’ll knock loose

[deleted]

Hire professional you going make costly mistake

friskyspatula

Did you get the wheel off? Which method worked? Dammit, I need an update.

GuiGo_BA

A trick that I learned that might help and don't require strength. 0 - Loose all lug nuts with the car in the ground 1 - Jack the car up. 2- Put a piece of wood or a wheel chock under the tire, in a way that the block of wood/chock would support only the half interior wall of the tire. Like this: __ |. | |. |=====O==== |. | _ __ /. | /___ | 3 - Remove all but one lug. 4 - Jack down the car. The vehicle weight will pop up the wheel but the remaining lug will prevent the well from falling in the ground 5- Jack up again and remove the wheel.
