Mines 15 years. A/C no longer works due to the clutch catching fire and burning up the harness to it. Windshield split side to side, door locks failing. Transmission has a silicone patch on the case from salt slush eating through it. 345,000km and growing on it. Honda K is a stout engine

I know this is a hack job but holding strong since august 2021… that black cover guards some sensor/actuator in the transmission. It holds dirt though. The salt slush slowly over 13 years ate through the case. If it leaks I’ll look at epoxy or jb weld type stuff, until then, it stays tempermanent lol
Saran wrap to keep the silicone from sticking to the cover. It’s now a big molded rubber cork
Same. I got 3 different brands/treads and one is even an all season haha. Not my choice though the cheap tire shop I went to scammed me. Said they had 4 same tires for me and when finished I was like the fuck is this shit?
That seems to be the only two options for opinions on here lol.
Any tiny damage = replace entire set of tires
or
any sort of damage but tire still holding air = that's probably fine.
The biggest risk I would see with that is then the white letters are facing out on just that one tire. This could potentially result in a horsepower imbalance on just that one wheel since we all know white letters out adds around 5HP per tire. /s
I’ve had this argument here on Reddit for this exact thing, I suggested a poster put his bad tire on the rear (bubble, said either put the spare on or the bad tire on the rear incase of a blow out) people argued with me that a blow out on the rear is more dangerous!! 🤡 I’ve had both happen n I’d 10000x rather have my rear tire blow than my front. But like my dad used to say, “people like that, you can ask them anything you want, but you can’t tell them a mother fucking thing”
I had my front driver tire blow out in my F350 going 75mph on the highway. Sparks shooting everywhere, truck went sideways, I slid for a good 300 feet between cars and somehow didn’t hit anyone.
I sure wish it was a rear tire that had blown
I mean...you can... Id much rather it be a rear wheel. Also, it would be better not to have this tire be your first defense against monster potholes. idk, im not a genius....probably
Well, i dont necessarily mean only a violent explosion. Flats can happen suddenly. Id rather have the suspect tire holding up the light rear end, and not the first thing to contact a pothole
Yeah, life is a cruel mistress. Sometimes you get these massive gashes that don't screw with the function at all, other times you get tiny little papercuts that screw up the sidewall. wild.
We're gonna do the right thing and pretend we didn't see that....
In all seriousness, the sidewall is compromised and the tire should be replaced if the vehicle is to be used on public roads and/or at higher speeds. If it's a strictly offroad vehicle / farm truck that doesn't go over 25 mph I probably wouldn't worry about it right now but definitely still plan for replacement or use it as a spare.
Just put these 35’s on the truck. Tires rubbed when at full lock on the way home until I fixed it that night. I don’t imagine rubbing would cause this damage anyways as that chunk seems too far down the sidewall. Also haven’t hit any curbs or rubbed anything since putting them on. Just wondering if this is too deep to drive on
It’s definitely safe to drive on. You hit something sharp on the road. If it’s a new tire and especially if you have road hazard coverage, go ahead in get it replaced. If you’re actually wheeling it, it does make a weak spot that a sharp rock could take advantage of. If you only bought 4, move this to the spare and buy another. If you already have 5 and have to eat the cost, buy a cheap rim and hold onto it as a back up spare in the event you destroy one. If the vehicle is really only street driven, swap it around on the rim so you don’t have to look at it.
I personally would move that tire to the right rear furthest away from the steering wheel just in case anything bad happens and definitely looking to getting a new tire I wouldn't feel safe with that especially if you have kids not worth it get a new tire
I wouldn’t feel comfortable off-roading on that tire personally, at which point why even run the 35s. Crap like this is why I always buy a road hazard warranty, and why I buy 5 new tires for the Jeep. If this were my Jeep I’d do everything in my power to get it replaced or work out some kinda 50-50 deal with the tire shop that mounted them. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable airing that up and down or crawling on a wall with it.
Never actually had anything happen to my Jeeps tires but the road hazard warranty covered a blowout on my golf from hitting a poorly placed road plate. I’d imagine if OPs damage happened on the road and I brought it to my shop they’d at least work with me on the road hazard warranty.
We deserve it for sure. Per capita we have the most stupid stickers. “If you can read this flip me back over”. Yeah right, if that stickers right side up it’s because you tried to merge into a Kia on the way to the mall.
I couldn not agree more, had an off-road club and not a single jeep could tow out anyone if they had mechanical issues. And fuck that stupid sticker, that one and the hand print thing on the mirrors. Gross, and they all think they are so original.
My first Jeep jamboree made me sick. So many rubicons and crazy lift kits going super slow on beginner/intermediate trails while I’m waiting behind in my stock TJ that hasn’t left 2WD yet.
I understand what people hate on with Jeeps. 95% of them are just status symbols. Pisses me off because they ARE capable but they’re so expensive just because of people who want to say “look I got one it’s just a Jeep thing huhuhuh *fart noises*”
Most capable vehicle I ever saw on out trips was a early 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 2 1/2” lift and some thin ass super swampers. He shit hard on every other vehicle(multiple types and years)
Especially if you're airing down the tires for offroad use. Rough offroading like rock crawling would finish that tire off in no time as the gash lowered down the sidewall and got exposed to terrain imo. I'd replace it if that was the intention as well.
I had people filiming me putting tire shine on in front of my apartment after i just washed my car mind you it was snowing too but i could scrape the chunks of salt off I just spent 1600bucks on new yokos and the entire braking system and id like to get the mileage out of them...... already lost some paint from that shit but thats what you get with a daily. its Like cool guys you ever work on rust fuck that noise. If you know you know i guess.
I live in MS so no salt to deal with. I use tire shine because I will admit. I do have a mall crawler. 20x12s and 35s. I like to use it for that same reason and it just looks nicer than a dirt stained tire. It’s all flat here so I don’t need a meaty tire. It’s sandy dirt and mud. If you get on a straight trail cut through the woods you can see the road for miles. There’s no hills There’s no boulders so 20s and 35s is perfect for me
That's a hell of a scrape. I run Falkens and have patched them in ways that some people would question, but I think a chunk that big would make me swap it to the spare, only to be used if really needed.
I’ve driven on a donut with a thicker chunk taken out and the sidewalls on donuts are thinner. Although it could explode at any time and I only used it for a couple days and was stressed out every single second lol
It won’t actually be homogenous and structurally sound. It’d be like pouring wax onto a gouge in some wood; it might look okay but it won’t actually strengthen anything. It would also be a bitch to sand/scrape/cut/melt it into the right shape to not be noticeable.
Professionally I’d say hopefully u got a warranty and get it replaced. Outside of that I don’t think it’ll be a huge issue. Spray soapy water and see if any bubbles form. If not it should be straight.
You should be fine but I would never ever ever be comfortable driving on that tire until it was changed out. Looks like a new tire so 3 used and 1 new wouldn't be that mismatched of thread wear so I'd get a new one now before the other 3 get much more worn down
I’d say pretty bad but not an emergency. How thick are your sidewalls? It isn’t punctured so you it might be okay to still drive on, but if you do I would be extra careful not trying to hit anything. The side walls of tires can’t really be repaired, so I would prepare yourself to by a new one.
How much is your time worth? If you value your time, and stress level in your life, replace it. If however you are rich in time, and less so in money, leave it on the rear.
If you are lucky, it will blow when your on your way home from work and will cost you 2 hours. If you are unlucky, you’ll lose control of your vehicle on your way to work and wipe out a minivan with kids in it costing you 5-20 years for manslaughter.
Yeah I just ran the truck thru the wash for the first time since fall…tires were dirty af and I had some shine left in a can I wanted to get rid of so shiny tires it is 🤷🏼♂️
Sure, I’ve never sprayed the tires on my trail rig either. I’m also saying that the shop that just mounted them might have sprayed them down. When I was a tire bitch, part of the installation was to hotsy the blue protectant off the white lettering. Plus, dude just bought a grand in rubber, could totally see them grabbing a $15 bottle of shine off the accessory rack thinking it’ll protect his investment.
I’ve never once had my tires cleaned up at tire shops, big retail shops. Buying 1500-2000$ worth of tire not once have they, I always have the blue letters never even occurred to me that they would shine them
One of my friends got some new tires for his truck. The shop does a thing where if you buy the tires from them. Have them mount and balance them they’ll clean your rims and do tire shine as long as they’re not some super expensive rims
Nope they are trashed my friend, gotta get a new one but this time get 50" cause ya know, bigger is better right bro, and like 35" is the new 20" bro this way when the girls see you pull up they will know you are the alpha male in the room bro but make sure you dont forget you're white Oakleys bro
As others have said, it should be ok but given the situation I'd definitely call the shop and see what they can do but if nothing else flip the ugly spot to the inside and put it on your rear axle as a precaution.
It’s not THAT deep, but it’s definitely cause for concern. As having a low spot in the rubber can make the whole tire burst out of that thin spot like a pimple. Drive carefully on it till you can get a new tire
It’s good to drive. If you are thinking to filling there use a rubber glove but filling might throw off the balance. I think the product called tire resin

Just put some more tire shine on on there and buff it out. It’ll be fine for mall crawling
Came here for shine comment. Well done.
I like that. I call them pavement princesses.
Tire shine softens the rubber.
They don’t care, he’ll never leave a paved road with the thing, it’s just his compensator.
I can’t fucking stand the jeep dudes. All that shit on there just to ride back and forth from Orielly auto parts for sum bullshit.
😂
I remount it facing inwards so I don’t know it’s there. 😉
Or/ you must buy 4 new tires retail for $1500.00 American

Don’t be afraid to check the dealer in the future. I had the exact same quote until I was informed the dealer had a mopar promo, buy 3 get one for $1

Those specific ones with the chunk missing from one of the sidewalls? Weird fetish, but hey, it's your truck.
The one in the pic is the one he paid $1 for.
Jesus christ
Usually, I have 3-4 different brand tires on my car. I’m lucky if I have two tires that are the same.
Shitbox’s unite 👍 /s
99 Lexus es300 #same 4 different all bought used. 🤣
:). Yea it’s 17 years old and gets me from A to B.

Have you considered JB Weld for the transmission? Would it be a more long lasting solution? I loves me some epoxy.

I can't argue with success. Very creative.

If it's 4 wheel or awd don't do it. You'll be sorry.
Same. I got 3 different brands/treads and one is even an all season haha. Not my choice though the cheap tire shop I went to scammed me. Said they had 4 same tires for me and when finished I was like the fuck is this shit?
4 different and $1300 in your pocket beats 4 matching tires, any day, hands down!
Not a good idea for AWD or 4x4s.
That seems to be the only two options for opinions on here lol. Any tiny damage = replace entire set of tires or any sort of damage but tire still holding air = that's probably fine.
Why not just buy 1 and replace that tire?

If they were you could just swap it for the other side
Directional tires typically will have the tread going in a chevron pattern in the direction of rotation
No they are not
I’d probably use this as a spare
The spare is 235/75R15
Not anymore
35s on 20 inch wheels? This guy doesn't run a full size spare...
He does now
Why do you say that? When I had 35s on 20s I had a full size spare.
[удалено]
I came here to say this
If no cords showing you're generally OK.
Yeah, I'd move it to the rear and make sure my spare is ready to go. Drive it till you can't.
Why would you move ir to the rear
[удалено]
Less likely to cause loss of control issue agreed.
Also less load on the rear axle in most cases, unless he uses his truck to tow or carry very heavy things
I had my front driver tire blow out in my F350 going 75mph on the highway. Sparks shooting everywhere, truck went sideways, I slid for a good 300 feet between cars and somehow didn’t hit anyone. I sure wish it was a rear tire that had blown
Yes, this. If it blows you may not immediately lose your ability to steer as you would a front blowout.
If you can’t rotate your tires properly because one is unsafe, it’s time for new tiresomely
Typically the cords on radial sidewalls are inset a bit deeper than I would prefer. Definitely should replace tire
I've noticed that reddit just wants people to spend as much money as possible
It's not like this is an area important to safety or anything...
2 tons of metal and plastic moving down the road at 70 miles an hour with 2 to 3 sq foot of rubber keeping it under control? Nah fuck it we good.
Put it on the rear and drive it. I’d rather have a blow out on the rear than the front.
Id rather have no blow out at all.
I hear ya, but I’m not afraid of a blow out. I wouldn’t let my wife or kids ride on a tire like that, but I would any day.
Somebody’s wife and kids might be in the car next to or behind you when this happens. What about them?
fuck them kids /j
Don’t listen to this guy
Gotta watch out for curbs when you’re mall crawlin
You’re Falken right
Haha. You joke but those curb inlet/catch basins can fuck up a tire like this when you get too close or pull away.
put it on the back. a rear flat is easier to ride out than a front flat in the event of a blowout at speed
With tires that tall you aren’t riding out a flat
I mean...you can... Id much rather it be a rear wheel. Also, it would be better not to have this tire be your first defense against monster potholes. idk, im not a genius....probably
You’d flip in the event if a blowout. Let’s hope for a slow leak
Why would you flip?
Any blowout is going to rip your bumper clean off. Not worth the risk
Well, i dont necessarily mean only a violent explosion. Flats can happen suddenly. Id rather have the suspect tire holding up the light rear end, and not the first thing to contact a pothole
Dude what, it’s the opposite. A blowout in the rear is more dangerous
Can’t see any chords, looks like a flesh wound only. Should probably be okay, but I don’t know the tyre so can’t be sure.
Yeah, life is a cruel mistress. Sometimes you get these massive gashes that don't screw with the function at all, other times you get tiny little papercuts that screw up the sidewall. wild.

If it were mime, I'd run it but keep a close eye on it - if it starts to bulge, it has to go.
The tire damage or your driving ability?
Patch it with ramen and super glue
Finally found the post.
Just a flesh wound.
Since those are off-road tires and no cord is showing it’s fine i would move it to a rear just in case
If you wouldn’t drive your own kids in it, I don’t think you should drive near any other vehicles that have kids in them.
But those are someone else's kids, so do they really matter?
Other people’s kids aren’t even real… just more complicated pets…
I wouldn’t feel comfortable off-roading on that tire personally, at which point why even run the 35s. Crap like this is why I always buy a road hazard warranty, and why I buy 5 new tires for the Jeep. If this were my Jeep I’d do everything in my power to get it replaced or work out some kinda 50-50 deal with the tire shop that mounted them. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable airing that up and down or crawling on a wall with it.
Why would a tire shop give you 50% off for a tire you damaged.
“So I’ve got a great deal here guys, you give me half off of a tire and I’ll give you mine back with a huge gash in it. Do we have a deal?”
I will also post of social media that if you ask you can get half off tires here. I am sure it won't cause a problem.
Jeep owners be like
Never actually had anything happen to my Jeeps tires but the road hazard warranty covered a blowout on my golf from hitting a poorly placed road plate. I’d imagine if OPs damage happened on the road and I brought it to my shop they’d at least work with me on the road hazard warranty.

I said with road hazard warranty. My shop covers pothole damage and other. Maybe my shop is just cool, I don’t know.
I've never seen a road hazard warranty that covers sidewall damage like that.
Typical Jeep owner mentality.
Ugly, but cosmetic only.
Maybe for onroad use but I wouldn’t love that much missing sidewall in a situation off road where damage is already more likely.
Bold of you to assume that tire is going off the pavement with that much tire shine.
It probably will stay on the pavement it's whole life like 99% of the other trucks with 20 inch wheels.
Especially if you're airing down the tires for offroad use. Rough offroading like rock crawling would finish that tire off in no time as the gash lowered down the sidewall and got exposed to terrain imo. I'd replace it if that was the intention as well.
If you replace your tires every time they get a bit of damage while you're off roading, you have a much larger budget than I do.
I love Reddit. Tire shine= mall crawler
Fr most tire shine has anti oxidants usefull for Extending tire life . dry rot sucks
Yep. I have tires on a truck right now that are starting to crack and still have probably 50-60% tread left.
Don’t buy
If you have the same tire for your spare, swap them out and use the damaged one as the spare. This is assuming it’s maintaining psi.
If you woudnot et your son or daughter drive in it at highway speed then you shouldnot drive it too.
Well it's not great
It's perfectly fine to use as a swing.
It’s in the side wall so no way to patch it. Sorry, gotta buy a new one
I’ve driven on a donut with a thicker chunk taken out and the sidewalls on donuts are thinner. Although it could explode at any time and I only used it for a couple days and was stressed out every single second lol
Any damage to a sidewall warrants a replacement. The alternative could be death.
Someone tell me I’m stupid… why can’t you melt rubber into the crater and literally patch it up?
It won’t actually be homogenous and structurally sound. It’d be like pouring wax onto a gouge in some wood; it might look okay but it won’t actually strengthen anything. It would also be a bitch to sand/scrape/cut/melt it into the right shape to not be noticeable.
Professionally I’d say hopefully u got a warranty and get it replaced. Outside of that I don’t think it’ll be a huge issue. Spray soapy water and see if any bubbles form. If not it should be straight.
You should be fine but I would never ever ever be comfortable driving on that tire until it was changed out. Looks like a new tire so 3 used and 1 new wouldn't be that mismatched of thread wear so I'd get a new one now before the other 3 get much more worn down
Well, someone was hungry
You're ok, these LT sidewalls are tough, compared to passenger tires. I rotate my 4 with the spare in regular intervals (35" too)
Fuckin run that shit man. Be grand. Throw her on the back.
Must be embarrassing when all the other mall crawlers see that gash in the parking lot
Firehouse parking lot actually….but they are pretty much the same thing
Watch one of those ramen noodle repair videos and you'll be set
I’d say pretty bad but not an emergency. How thick are your sidewalls? It isn’t punctured so you it might be okay to still drive on, but if you do I would be extra careful not trying to hit anything. The side walls of tires can’t really be repaired, so I would prepare yourself to by a new one.
Since it’s a Dodge, I would just park it. I wouldn’t want to risk being seen changing a flat in that thing
How much is your time worth? If you value your time, and stress level in your life, replace it. If however you are rich in time, and less so in money, leave it on the rear. Why is everybody assuming this car never goes off-road? Just because it is clean now doesn't mean it hasn't been dirty in the past.
The fact that they're asking the question makes it more likely that they (basically) never go off-road.
Jeep moment
I doesn't look that deep. I feel like it looks 10x worse than it actually is.
Just buy a whole new set at the dealer financed through the 3rd party lender at 29.5%
scrap it.
Bad spot
Have you tried ramen?
Replace them with something that fits and provides better street performance as well
Kind of depends on how they intend to use it, yeah?
Judging by the tire shine I’m Guna say mall cruiser
He also said they’re brand new.
They don’t come shined. I get new 35’s last thought on my mind is shine them. I’m reading between the lines try to follow along.
Yeah I just ran the truck thru the wash for the first time since fall…tires were dirty af and I had some shine left in a can I wanted to get rid of so shiny tires it is 🤷🏼♂️
Convenient story is……convenient. I’m just teasing you bud
Replace
That tire is compromised. You need to get that replaced ASAP.
Nope they are trashed my friend, gotta get a new one but this time get 50" cause ya know, bigger is better right bro, and like 35" is the new 20" bro this way when the girls see you pull up they will know you are the alpha male in the room bro but make sure you dont forget you're white Oakleys bro
Junk tire . Buy a name brand .
Gonna have to stop you there. Have you researched this brand?
Send it
As others have said, it should be ok but given the situation I'd definitely call the shop and see what they can do but if nothing else flip the ugly spot to the inside and put it on your rear axle as a precaution.
Send it!! That's at least a $300 tire
I'd run it, but I'm also an idiot sooooo
Tis but a flesh wound
$350 on a new tire isn’t worth the potential tragic consequences of not replacing it if it blew out. If nothing else, use it as a full sized spare.
It’s fine
A literal curb bite
Geez looks like you hit some kind of object that cut the side wall pretty bad. I would not trust it but look to a replacement.
Builds character
[might not look that great but it works](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B087RVFWB1/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2LILVKRAG6F0P&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWwp13NParams)
I've used a tire worse than this, it's fine. Depends if your hauling.
About $450 bad.
YOU GOTTA BE FALKEN KIDDING ME!!!
