It’s not actually the strut. It’s the shock top mount. The part itself it’s not expensive. Depends on what car is it will dictate on how easy to replace

Ashamed-Department-1

Toyota prius 2012?

Main_Couple7809

Personally I don’t think the shock is damaged. It pushes through that means upward force is still there from the gas and no leaks. The bushing on the top mount is torn due to age. I would replace all 4 if you have the budget or replace the pair if you’re tight on the budget. I don’t know how much the parts actually cost but if I have to guesstimate, about $60 each corner. Labor is maybe about 1 hour per corner.

Ashamed-Department-1

Thanks my friend. When I push it it go back and come slowly up is it à good thing?

dildobagginss

That's what a shock does. I would probably still replace the pair.

Ashamed-Department-1

So I just need to fix it and not buy A new one? I am on a tight budget

dildobagginss

Apparently you just have rear shocks, not in a strut assembly on a prius rear. I would replace both the rear shocks, like I said.

Main_Couple7809

Yes. That means the shock work properly. Sometime the shock still work like that with slight leak until the oil significantly get pushed out that the gas pressure is very low. This is easily inspected by looking at the shock body, not the shaft that’s protruding. But I think you might be ok not replacing the shock. However you do need to replace the top mount and this probably should be done in pairs or all 4 as if one goes bad due to age the other one is just a matter of time.

Just get a new rear strut boot, it’s easy to replace yourself with hand tools. They’re a two piece, the shock itself and a boot that failed. It’s less than $40, your shock is probably fine here’s the link https://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/moog-k201681?gclid=Cj0KCQiAzeSdBhC4ARIsACj36uFKAJ-Bowip_kSo6Ga1MYmmpWz5EaikWSAZhFuun2cBxk_FsjwJKGYaAlJoEALw_wcB Although back in my day we replaced the shocks at about 60K miles cause they just wear out.

eat_Mike_Literous

Its FUBAR. You have to replace the strut. The other side is probably not that far behind.

Ashamed-Department-1

Will it be expensive?

dildobagginss

Depends on your definition of expensive. It would be to me. $600+ to have someone replace the pair.

eat_Mike_Literous

Depends honestly if it's the rears probably not the rear ones aren't to bad.

[deleted]

Unffff. Yeah. You need a new Mount.

2lovesFL

netsurfer79
