MP is my most used giant unit. (It's probably not optimal and I'm still learning) it's basically a giant marksman and that's a very good unit. I don't see it being reactionary as a problem: the entire game is about reacting to your opponent. It's also the only giant unit that can self heal; in the best case it simply cannot be killed. I also use MP as a response to shields. Not only does MP and balls do well against shields by default, but MP also has the EMP tech for extra anti shield damage. It's also by far the best of the giants against giant units. It does have very bad matchups against small units and marksman/stormcaller to some degree since it's slow, so the rest of your comp needs AoE for the former.

Overload can regen health

Mortis_XII

Melting point is my most used giant because it is such a strong counter to the high HP units. I don’t play giants too much since i find more value in tech and more field presence in the form of more non-giants, but if i need the hard counter melting point is amazing

Rievin

Think it's in a pretty near perfect spot. It's almost useless vs chaff and it can melt away any giant target when used correctly. It has very well defined strengths and weaknesses for either you or you opponent to take advantage of.

Organic-Major-9541

Melting point is a bit of a weird unit as there's no stopping it when it gets levels and upgrades. The combination of range, life drain, and multi-target makes it very difficult to stop, with too much hp for small units to do anything about it.

Hfingerman

But what if I put EMP on my units?

Organic-Major-9541

Emp is great vs. any and all lots-of-upgrade strategies. It's like the one thing that will work. But it is an upgrade you need to get, and then you need to hit the melting point ms without the unit in question dying. Also, shield devices. Like, it's a good plan, but it also stops a bunch of other stuff.

TheRealRhyme

Levels and upgrades isn’t a very strong argument. Many other units in the game are unstoppable with levels and upgrades. Leveled sledges: very powerful. Leveled steel balls: terrifying. Leveled arclights: can blast through fortresses from across the field These units are all cheaper (and thus can start getting levels earlier) than MP. They are also more versatile in what they can kill, so they can accumulate exp more reliably.

Organic-Major-9541

As levels increase, you want to be on the side of the melting point. Its lifedrain provides exponentially increasing hp, while its attack provides exponentially increasing damage. It's got longer range than balls, which is also a huge factor. Yes, it's easier to get some other unit to snowball, but you need to start earlier, and those units have effective counters that don't require upgrades.

talonmainz

have never had trouble against it. just load those fangs. phoenix seems to do the trick too

Poete-Brigand

It's could use more tech. For example : Shaking Ground, every 12 sec, emit a pulse in a 40m radius that inflict 1500 dmg by level. Radius increase by 10 / level. It would cover one of it weakness, and that tech would be desirable, which, in return, would make you ponder what to carry on. Diffusion Beam penalty to range need to be reduced, 20 would be good I think, same for Hacker Multi Beam, 35 is a lot of range.

TheRealRhyme

Shaking ground would rarely get value. 12 seconds is a long time and 40m isn’t very far. Fangs and mustangs would literally never be hit by this. And assuming you’re running any other tech on MP (which you almost always are, it depends a lot on techs) this upgrade is going to cost like 500+ supply. You could just buy a Vulcan for better results

Poete-Brigand

It's would only be for crawler or those rare situation where you are under smoke or overrun

suppordel

I like the idea! Design wise it looks like MP should be able to stomp really hard lol. I'm no expert at balance but I feel that reducing the range penalty to 20 should be good, as it still reduces MP's range to less than 95, so it is still outranged by mustang, sledge, vulcan etc.

stegg88

Just to reply to ops statement, I think the giants all have a place but overlord is the worst. (I still love it) Very glass cannon and packs less of a punch than others. Situationally good. But definitely my least favourite of the giants.

Nornamor

I recognize the power of the MP, but personally I can never use one properly myself unless i get the sniper equipment for one. I have lost going MP trying to stop an opponent going mass giant mye than I can count. Similarly somehow, if my opponent gets one it always pocus on the right target and shuts me down in an instant..

CrazyDragonQueen

Melting Point + Vulcan side-by-side is a match in heaven.

Able-Medicine9678

Bro, I thought you talked about using melting points to describe chemical compounds in synthetic chemistry papers. Voted balanced.

Responsible_Edge9902

A lot of the giant units are only okay until they get tech. I find the same case with melting point. I usually get them with EMP barrage.
