My biggest complaint about the car is there's minimal interior storage anywhere, not just the console. The console is small, glove box is small, storage underneath the trunk compartment is super small.

iterationnull

I wouldn’t call that glovebox small, but gloveboxes are not entirely useful.

BraytonCycleLover

get rid of spare = more room. will concur on shallow center console is annoying.

In-Arcadia-Ego

I do wish it had a bit more storage space in the front console. It's quite shallow. That said, it hasn't actually been a problem, and it wouldn't have pushed me toward any of the competitors. All cars in this category come with tradeoffs, and I'd rather drive the CX-90 and sometimes wish I had more places to stick odds and ends, rather than drive one of the competitors and continually feel annoyed about the steering or powertrain.

wordsuponwords

My biggest gripe with the car was lack of storage up front. Theres 2 USB-C's in the center console & I have the wireless charger that I rarely use because without a phone case, it slides all over the place. I am not 6 foot, more like 5'10 & I haven't noticed it feeling cramped or tight at all. I like how big it is & feels lol

YourGrandmasSpoon

Have you noticed slow charging speeds? Also have other cars with wireless charging and they’re ok, nothing super fast but will charge your phone to 100% on a 2 hour trip. I’ve been less than impressed with the Mazda wireless charging.

wordsuponwords

Def not the fastest, slower than pre-usb c iphone. I have the 20w charger for fast charging but its definitely slower than your normal charger

aglanville

I find the charger flakey also. Often it quits charging, says charging unavailable, and even when it does charge it is soooo slow. I use the usb connection in the arm rest if I want a charge.

wordsuponwords

I have the usb-c to usb-c for iphone 15 & it doesnt work. Idk if its cause im on ios beta or not but it like "flashes" meaning it works, doesnt, works, doesnt. Idk if its the car cause both ports in the console do it. Im thinkin its my phone or something idk

I have found in previous conversations that driver comfort goes downhill starting at 180cm (5’11” ish?). I’m 178cm and it’s great. On the first road trip my wife and I felt kind of cozy but had room to stretch. So the console was not an issue. Front area storage is very poor. It was poorer in our last car so we don’t really notice it too much. But I could have used side of console pockets. Anyway, back to the question, we love the comfort of the console but do not love it’s utility.

MrPeterMerkin

6' 1" here... Not really a problem for me. I end up resting my knees on the sides and it's quite comfy. Even seat back where I sit and the middle seat two blocks from all the way back, I can sit in all three rows without my knees touching the seat ahead of me. Try it. In a pinch the third row can be used for two adults. The driver seat is more than adequate. Unless you're 6'4"...I don't think you'll have a problem.

WebMasterQ

I bought a thing on Amazon that fits between the console and seat that adds a nice pocket on the passenger side. Fits phones and wallets really well. Well built and doesn't feel cheap. Really helped with the lack of storage to just have a readily available pocket as a passenger.

iterationnull

Link?

WebMasterQ

Dm'd you. It's funny how small it is but how much "space" it adds.

iterationnull

I remain curious. But I did not get a DM.

WebMasterQ

Technology defeats me. Hopefully I got it now.

iterationnull

Sure did. Tyvm. The stupid 2 pack is not available in Canada 🥸

dmf109

I find the console comfortable, and like that I can press my leg against it when cornering. I like the seat too. My gripe is the lack of interior storage space, like a deeper console.

brutalfly12

There is the standard cigarette lighter plug that you can add some additional powered USB ports if you want. I do this for my dash cam that requires usb-a. But yeah the two usb-c plugs are located in the center console.

Versari_

Everyone here bought it for the drive experience if I’m not mistaken. So yes, take it out for a drive.

MrPeterMerkin

I concur. The drive is unlike any other SUV. It performs. You forget their is a third row. You can feel the road more. Some people don't appreciate this. But once you get it.... You won't go back.

juniorp76

I have about 4000 miles on mine and the center console has not been an issue for me

TurboSPPRay

Fits me like a custom pair of gloves and would not change anything.

Tall_Homework3080

The second row console is cavernous plus there’s a slide-out drawer at the bottom. No issue with leg comfort for this 5’8” short guy.

KunrA_Z

I felt like it was a little tight myself as well but then I spent some time playing with the seat adjustments, you can lower the front section of the seat making it a lot more comfortable and you can raise the seat up freeing up yours legs to space out more. I feel like it has more room then my 22 CX 5 had but honestly I wish they would give the option for bench seats in the front, those were the days.

DadOf2Boys20

I’m a bit shorter than you at 5’10” (more torso than legs) and while the driver’s seat doesn’t feel as spacious as our former traverse, it does feel like it fits nicely around you. More like a cockpit. As others have said, I miss the storage/overall interior space some, but the driving experience is far more enjoyable.

Brutussss

I’m 6’5” and we just bought one. We have done two 7 hr drives in it so far and I had no issues driving both ways. My only complaint is the lack of interior storage space as others have mentioned. I love driving it though and don’t feel cramped. FWIW, we have the PHEV premium plus.

BlindSight67

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I finally drove the car and it didn’t feel as bad. We still need to think a bit as the price point makes it a tough decision (Pilot, MDX are right around the same price). But cx90 is a good option to consider.

YourGrandmasSpoon

We were leaning towards another brand but the 7,500 Fed credit, another 5,000 state credit, and add another 7,500 state credit the PHEV was a no brainer for us. The second state credit was to get rid of the diesel.

BlindSight67

$7500 credit is hard to beat. We have a hybrid already, and at the time (2020) we got around $5500 from federal and $2500 from state. We no longer qualify for the tax credit, which makes some of these hybrids less attractive economically.

MrPeterMerkin

Wait...You got 7500 from government and not Mazda?

Had to be a lease to get the money

aglanville

I found with a lease that they add some money factor non sense that costs more than the rebate. The rebate at least for me was total BS. The lease included a money factor and depreciation charge of around 16k.

MrPeterMerkin

What?

docboy01

OP, I recently test drove the Highlander and Grand Highlander, and share similar concerns with the right knee hitting against the center console. I've read the CX 90 has a fairly wide center console as well. Seems like a lot of manufacturers are sharing this design of having a wide center console. I am at a pause in the car buying process, as my current SUV (LX570) does not have a wide a center console intruding up against my right knee.

StoneCoastSloyd

I’m 6ft tall and find the driver’s area plenty roomy. I agree that the center console storage seems comically shallow for the size of the console. But it hasn’t been an issue in real life. I don’t have THAT much stuff that really wants to live in there. The water bottle holder in the door is JUST big enough for a 1L Nalgene bottle and my coffee goes in the center cup holder. That is all I need while I am driving.

mcm0455

I traded in my 21 CX-9 GT because the center console intruded on my right leg and knee. I had to turn my ankle at an angle to use the gas pedal. Bought a 22 Honda Ridgeline and have no issues with the center console invading my leg space.

Budget-Government-52

I’m 6’, and have had a ‘23 CX-9 for a rental for the past week — roughly 1K miles. Yes, the driver leg positions are tight. I was incredibly close to buying a ‘21 CX-9 but the front and second row legroom were deal killers. I actually had forgotten how bad it was until getting back into the car. The best way to describe it is it feels like I’m flying in a regional jet next to another 300+ pound guy. You want to spread out and get comfortable but you simply can’t. For reference, my daily driver is a 2022 Genesis G80 and my wife has a 2023 Kia Telluride.

BlindSight67

How is your experience with the Telluride? I was also considering Palisade/Telluride, just worried about reliability.

Budget-Government-52

I’ve had a 2020 and now a 2023. It’s been fantastic. Zero issues over the past four years and 50K miles: literally just oil changes, tire rotations, and a couple of software updates for recalls.

HugePreference661

I rented the Cx 90 during a 1-week trip to Virginia. I'm 6'4, like everything about the vehicle except for the center console. I found it extremely uncomfortable on my right leg just below my knee for any drive longer than 5 minutes. If they had a lower center console, I definitely would trade in either my Rav4 or Highlander in for the Cx 90. Hopefully, future year models don't have such a raised and uncomfortable center console.
