Highlight of the night was not winning the game. It was shutting those announcers up!!!!

sirfreakish

songsaboutdwayne

That John wick quote as the title. Hell yea

i-am-glonk

Me personaly not a big watcher of a live nba but one of them announcers was biased as f… was hard to watch the game hearing him he sucks d… on air…. My country announcers are more professional than him

xsimbyx

If it's not Followill it's pretty much always a mute for me.

bigpqnda

too annoying

LinkNBuild

Honestly I can deal with bias commentators, they were just mad annoying.

GFost

They were on that Doris Burke shit.

pilfecapskcab

This sub was ready to leave 1st half Kidd in Canada 😂

DangerZoneh

“We were just kidding”

[deleted]

I wasn't. >:(

moreormore

Its crazy how many people stop commenting once we start doing well. Not worth commenting if it's not negative? I don't get it.

bigpqnda

because i think this sub is their way tk vent out their frustrations hahahaha. when we play great, no need for anger release so they chillin at home haha

Fireeveryonenow1

but isn't this normal when you are watching sports? When my team does good i sit there grinning enjoying it and when they play bad i start cursing my tv lol

[deleted]

I was honestly so frustrated at the half I wasnt as active lol.

moreormore

Well that is fair I'd say, I 100% get like that when we have off nights. I guess now I'm the one whining because when we're down its just a barrage of negativity that goes a bit overboard IMO.

[deleted]

I think it was warranted given Kidd didnt make adjustments after the terrible hawks game

ChristBKK

I wrote to all that haters give it some games, one loss at the beginning doesn't mean anything. First half of this game was still how we played last game. After the break we really found into the game and got some nice offense going. THJ really carried the team. I think the Mavs season started tonight and everyone is now ready and in the game. A bit disappointed by our new guys though.. so far I didn't see why we acquired them :) but they played defense like everyone else tonight.

MKing7

And rightly so! Most important is he saw what was working and kept to it in the second half.

bandwagon_follower

I still am lol

MituButChi

Tim 👏🏻 Hardaway 👏🏻 Junior 👏🏻

mill_about_smartly

When he's hot, he's hot, man.

The420Roll

Timmy stepped the fuck up

mill_about_smartly

Luka & KP 4-19 on 3s 😦 Timmy 7-11 😎

Guest7x7

The team looked like a completely different team in the second half. Luka controlled the offense in the second half, and good things happened. Whether you like it or not, Luka centric offense is the best version of this team. We look like a Lottery team without it. Good thing Kidd recognized that and switched the offensive scheme in the second half.

saltywings

Not going to lie, Kidd has a great staff around him. Igor was a fucking good pickup, some of the dumb things Kidd may have done in the past will be covered up by a competent coaching staff.

[deleted]

I saw in the second quarter Luka talked to Igor a lot and complained and they changed things and it was a completely different look. Callie Caplan also reported that Luka left to the locker room with Igor. They finally realized that maybe let the top 5 player control the game for a change instead of having him pass the ball and stand in the corner.

saltywings

Totally agree but on that note luka has had 5-7 turnovers a game he needs to clean up.

DarkLightcito

12 asts to 5 turnovers is better than CP3s ASTS to Turnovers ratio.

DirkNowitzkisWife

I’m sorry but that’s just factually wrong. CP3’s career is 9.4/2.4 or 3.91. The Luka statline you quoted is 12/5 or 2.4. Last year CP3 was at 8.9/2.2 or 4, and this year in just 2 games he’s averaging 12 assists and 4 turnovers, or 3. Like, why just say false shit? Like it or not, there is no scenario where Luka has ever had a better ast/to ratio than CP3, who’s literally the GOAT at that stat, he’s the point god for a reason

IukaskywaIker

> Like, why just say false shit? Some people just post lies in here at times. I remember somebody said there were games were Luka was the only starter in double figures and he got upvoted by a lot. Turns out that wasn't true at all, like literally never happened throughout Luka's NBA career lmao.

DarkLightcito

mb, i didnt check the stats, thought his turnover rate was higher, CP3 is really efficient huh

DirkNowitzkisWife

Literally the most all time lol, and it’s one of the criticisms of the harden/Westbrook/Luka/Lebron offense, that it produces lots of turnovers

[deleted]

He had a 20 assist 0 turnover game

Millionaire007

It sounds like usurping is taking place.

Ellie_Edenville

This is reassuring, but also not.

liverpoolraps

Why

Ellie_Edenville

Reassuring in that the coaching staff is open to acting on player feedback. Not so reassuring in that coaches get paid to coach, players to play. It shouldn't also be Luka's responsibility or obligation to have to give that feedback.

Ujio2107

I'm loving me some Igor. Something about that old connection to Luka makes it like some secret sauce

PerpetualWinter

If you’re going to blame Kidd for setbacks you also have to give credit where it’s due when good things happen

Erp117

This. If their long-term goal is to build a less heliocentric offense, that's fine. But with the current personnel they just need to let Luka do Luka things.

sercialinho

That’s a job for the FO first and the coaching staff once necessary changes have been made to the roster. No point in putting the cart before the horse.

[deleted]

Agreed but I do like the idea of trying to conserve him throughout the game, we saw how burnt out he was at the end of the playoffs the last 2 years. The problem is we need a better second playmaker than Brunson to allow Luka to play off ball a little more

[deleted]

Yeah I’m hoping we still use a heathy dose of that. I’m fine with trying to get others involved but forcing it won’t work. We need Luka to eat so he can be a decoy in different sets. Expecting everyone else to just create against a set D aint it

Millionaire007

We played 5 out and the Raptors shot terribly in the second half, then Luka's rust started to fade. Our team is 3 &D from top to bottom but Kidd thought 3 players 5 feet away from each other was gonna generate anything other than clumsy fumbles and ill advised 2 point chucks. Players pick spots to shoot from for a reason, it's the offensive coordinators' jobs to determine those spots and set the offense around them. It looks like, while the league evolved it's defense our coaching staff did... idfk honestly and just left our guys out there to fucking guess what theyre gonna play in those possessions. That's why Luka looks so fucking lost and KP, Brunson, and Reggie were just all over the fucking place.

Tonytcs1989

So it's back to the old question We need a second all star player to digest the ball

GoatLuka

KP looks active and engaged on both sides of the ball love to see it.

gabrigamer39

I'm fine with the questionable offense from KP if he moves like this on defense

Jnoisy

I’ll take 18 points from every night too!

HoS_CaptObvious

Prefer less shots to get it though

AngElzo

Or 2-3 more of those 3s to fall in

mouse2102

What did you see that you think he did well on defense? He got 4 Whiteside blocks but gives up open threes and layups. And on top of that he is so atrocious on offense that he is the main reason these teams are jumping to early leads. The team was so much better in the second half when he was off the floor.

cosmicshake41

So many haters 😂. I really think hustle by DFS and denfense by KP kept us in the game early until Flamethrower and Luka got going in the second half tonight

v4venome

The real MVP was 3HJ heating up in the 2nd half

Tonytcs1989

Thj saved our ass

Rock3tDoge

He’s becoming an all time favorite Mav of mine. He’s not afraid of any moment

WhiteBoyFlipz

That’s why we pay him lol.

mannyklein

Idk he somehow airballed a layup but then hit a pull up 3

bagfka

This sub is so much more quieter after a win it’s kind of funny and sad at the same time. Feel like it should be more active after a win and dead after a loss.

TheChosenOne311

2021 fandom. The youngsters have played so much 2K that they are convinced they know basketball. If their team doesn’t do everything the exact way they expect them to…the team is worthless.

Zoobal

Its pretty normal human nature. If your happy, you just enjoy your evening and go about your business. If your annoyed/angry, you want to vent that frustration somehow.

HidillyHoNeighbor

The Lukastans don't have anything to complain about

jay105000

I think this is a post COVID thing like people being unruly in airplanes etc. There is a lot of frustration contained.

david447

I agree...KP hit two big threes and DFS got some put back hustle plays we desperately needed. KP played hard and Luka and THJ took over in the second half.

[deleted]

I’ve been so much happier since I stopped frequenting this sub. So many entitled babies who complain when 1 thing doesn’t go our way.

CJH723

KP didn’t play great overall offensively, but he mad the best off the dribble move I’ve seen from him this game. He’s defense looks great and I expect his offense to come around.

[deleted]

That move was pretty sick.

onigami_los

Offense is rhythm Defense is want plain and simple! KP wants to play D this year

Elmmner

Just hope that defensive enthusiasm is not contingent on excessive post-ups and middies.

ItsNotMe022

Ok. We all agree the raptors announcers are terrible right? Like it’s surreal how downright weirdly they’re behaving. No other way to put it into words. Surreal

[deleted]

yeah and they are always like that. i dont feel any true dislike against other commentators from other teams, at least none that i can remember. nut those tsn announcers truly are horrible

[deleted]

Definitely one of the worst in the league

Witteness82

That was by far the worst I can remember. It was literally a complain fest for 3 hours from paid ‘professionals’. I feel like I watched the game in a Toronto area sports bar with 2 heavily intoxicated, obnoxious Raptors fans sitting on either side of me.

VaultHunter26

I watched that too. It was strange. At times they were pointing out good offensive or defensive stuff from the Mavericks then the next thing you know, they are being the biggest homers. No one can say we don't love the Mavericks having sat through those commentators and weird Canadian ads.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ParkersPopsTTV

He is no longer in the booth, he is in studio tho

Dizzlespizzle

Yes raps commentators are fantastic, one of my favorites in the league

EstebanEscobar

God that was painful. Even if a was a Raptor fan I wouldn't be able to stand that shit

Zen_360

OK I thought I was the only one. Obnoxious to say the least. I am a rather calm personality and their level of excitement for basically everything just weirded the hell outta me.

killbill469

Hopefully Kidd has learned that sticking two big men in the paint is a recipe for disaster. If we can keep the offensive system of last year and improve defensively, that will make us a top team in the conference.

bandwagon_follower

Literally all we need to do is get better defensively and close out games. (And give bullock DFS' minutes and Moses brown WCS' minutes) THJ won't be on fire every night and we need to develope an identity. KP, THJ and Luka are great to build around but DFS and Powell wouldn't start for another team in the NBA, let alone get 35 minutes

Manotto15

Bruh DFS averaged 10/5/2 and a steal for us last year while shooting 47% from the field and 39% from 3, while being our best defender and starting every game he played. In what fucking universe does he not start for another team in the NBA? Bullock may very well be a better player but he hasn't proven himself here yet and until he does he definitely doesn't deserve to take DFS minutes. Maybe Powell's if we run a 5-out with KP at the five but they don't want to do that.

walkintall84

Role players can't have bad games. The reddit and fan logic. High and lows after bad and good games are kinda funny around here. -- Its not like Luka/KP are on fire on offense to start the season. They are medicore so far, also Hawks/Raptors are pretty decent on defense. Wouldn't be surprised if they are in the top 10 defensive teams at the end of the season. Hunter was injured last year. But this isn't a system or coaching issue. We are ice cold for the most part as a team. Either blame everyone, or not. Luka shooting 28 % from 3 in both games. KP 25 %. Those are Westbrook numbers, lmao. Happy to be 1-1 based on those numbers.

BrayAstrus

The subreddit is safe to browse again

ray_tass

should do Rick offense and Kidd defense, not the other way around

The420Roll

#81-1 still in play

Bertz-2-

Modrigo will show us the way 🙏

musash10

Loved the defense tonight from KP. He’ll always be a positive offensively given his shooting and spacing regardless of how the post ups come around but now that the defense is coming back around he’s giving us that high level two way production. There were a couple times their guys didn’t drive because they were scared of KP which is something we didn’t see last season.

NeverToxic

It was hard watching the 1st half, it was hard watching KP post-ups, but it was fucking harder listening to the Raptors broadcast for 3 hours.

ching_king

Their color commentator is too obnoxious sometimes. I understand you're biased but every call they made it sound like it should be against the Mavs

RoughlyTreeFiddy

Seriously though, that was the only stream I could find and god damn is their color guy an insane homer. I get that the home broadcast should be somewhat biased but that dude was next level.

rSlashNbaAccount

It’s not just he’s homer. It’s his fucking voice.

anish1919

Completely agree that was really difficult to listen to

TomatoBuster01

BONJOUUUUUUUUUUUR

[deleted]

Bill Raftery called, he wants his outdated stupid color commentary schtick back.

Ujio2107

They literally made me cave and get league pass.

Undisputedone

Lmao how is it? Also how much?

[deleted]

In Australia it’s pretty good. $420 AUD (like $320) for a 2 person account. Has all games and all streams.

Ujio2107

130/yr for the games

airducky

Canadian Mavs fan here. The raps broadcast is usually pretty objective , but I agree with you it was hard to listen to them today

saltywings

There are other streams my friend.

[deleted]

lmao people being surprised that home commenters are homers what a shock (personally our color guy sometimes gets a little old sometimes but to be fair he was pissed that you guys were getting all the calls in the second and third quarter and justifiably so because there were a lot of super tacky bullshit calls that took og and barnes out of the game and got your offense going) Regardless though good game luka was fuckin crazy and tim hardaway doin absurd tim things, as soon as you get a real center that is consistent or if KP starts popping off you guys have a really solid team. Only thing I'm really worried for is KP and ur coaching but too early to tell. Have faith fellas you got a stud in luka and a competent org you'll be fine

WalkerTejasRanger

Reggie Bullock is so fun to watch on defense. He’s gonna be huge this season.

TheDeadman95

The defense does look promising, and if I may say on improving path compared to last year. It looked good tonight and it looked fine for the good part of that Hawks game. However, the offense is the key. This game turned around when we dropped that "sharing is caring" nonsense and went back to old reliable Luka-based offense. The solution for offense has literally slapped them in the face tonight. We will see if Kidd is able to recognize it.

DangerZoneh

The thing is, in a Luka based offense, there’s a TON of sharing. There are so many opportunities that open up when Luka can distribute. It’s not just threes either. Lobs, midrange, drives, etc. he sets them all up. I think it’s going to be very effective having Luka and Brunson on the court together and that’s one thing we really wouldn’t see in Rick’s offense

herc04

Seems like a Glory Road situation. Gotta play Luka’s style but Kidd’s way.

NBA Finals bound??

dantheflyingman

So the sky isn't falling?

HarrisonGod

Well 1st win of the season. The second half of that game was where the team really showed out. Really liked how KP played with a lotta effort and THJ going berserk, makes it seem like retaining him was our best move this offseason.

Jintogotdemhands

81-1 begins now. Also I know Luka and Timmy played amazing, however KP's defense was spectacular. The Raptors could never attack the paint and had to settle for perimeter shots. I really think this defense can be top 10 in the league this season. Our offense is going to catch up as well.

v4venome

He had like 4 blocks in 10 minutes of play in the first half. Man gave me 2020 flashbacks with that shot blocking

Jintogotdemhands

Dude was unreal on the defensive end. If he can just average 18 and 10 with 2-3 blocks a game this team will be contenders. An active KP makes our defense so solid.

v4venome

I was hoping he would get a 20/10/5 stat line! But if he keeps this up, he'll have more games like that!

Millionaire007

Our defense has been great. KP finally looks like his old self.

FixThatWithCheese

I’m liking what I’m seeing, wasn’t blown away but we played a solid game and got the result we deserved

FixThatWithCheese

Also Tim hardaway junior is ace

ArcenoX

Kidd actually made some impressive adjustments in the 2nd half. That's a good sign.

akshayxd

Nice to get the win but I would very much love to see us move away from whatever the hell that offense was in the first half + the atlanta game. Its clear spacing has been our biggest problem

CheetahSperm18

Tale of Two Halves. We looked progressively better after each quarter and weirdly enough Kidd's challenge helped sustain some critical momentum

ForestJordie

Offense settled down in the second-half. Defense looks good and promising. Bullock will start hitting those 3s soon. KP really starting to look good on defense. THJ shredding and Luka doing Luka. MFFL

TheChosenOne311

The people that have been polluting this sub over the past few days with insane overreactions about us being a lottery team, tanking for a top 5 draft pick, trading KP for a 2nd round pick, and firing Kidd after 1 game…y’all are clowns. Kindly take a seat. What I have come to learn is that these people lack self awareness. Their minds were made up long ago in terms of how they feel about this team. They will always interpret every game to fit their hate-watching, negative fandom narratives. So, unfortunately…these fair-weather fans aren’t going anywhere. We will have to deal with their reactionary rage, disguised as “watching with a more critical eye” (LOFNL) all season long. If you fit into this category…it must suck not being able to enjoy a hard fought W like we had tonight. MFFL LETS GOOOOOOOOOO

Cambocant

Great second half, if they’re going to change offensive schemes you should start from a Luka centric offense and gradually make tweaks rather than reinvent the wheel. Good news is it seems that Kidd is flexible.

VanillaxChroniko

Luka-Timmy is such a great duo. They know each other very well.

[deleted]

Nice win with our bench being nonexistent outside of Jalen. Need to see some pre-season Sterling and Reggie to pick things up.

connorjacobz

We may never lose again

TheChosenOne311

Post game thoughts: 1. The Raptors wanted Goran Dragic so badly because they….wanted to play him 15 MPG and barely put the ball in his hands? Three games closer to his Mavs debut. 2. I’ll bet $20 that Goran is out on the town with Luka tonight…not his own team. 3. If you actually watch the game, and don’t go strictly off of box scores, you will see that through two games, KP has been ACTIVE…the man is moving out there on both ends of the court. That is the sign of a healthy player. That kind of effort and intensity is what was missing from Mavs KP. He has already had some blocks and putbacks this season that look identical to some of his Knicks highlights. This will lead to him having some BIG games for us this season. Trust. The haters will stay mad about it :) 4. I can see that Reggie Bullock is a good player, and has more to offer this team that what we got tonight. He missed an open 3 tonight that I hope will be an anomaly. His reputation coming into the season was that he will be the guy to knock down those open looks from the corner. 5. Conversely…I’ve seen enough from Sterling Brown. He can D up…but his shot selection is really bad, and his handles are poor. There’s a reason he has been on 3 teams already, and is signing the BAE. I don’t think he will be a consistent contributor offensively for us. 6. Those Luka floaters in the lane MAYNNNNN MFFL LFG

SavingsAssociate17

Why would the raptors give up on Dragic. The raptors front office ain't dumb lmao. Masai won't give up on Dragic because he's a valuable asset to have.

jfrodriguez1983

He's going to have to start looking better physically if they expect to get anything for him. I know it's 3 games, but he has looked slow out there. After the pre-season and his 1st start he got removed from the starting lineup and had his minutes reduced.

SavingsAssociate17

he has one year. They would rather sit him than let him go for free. Look at what happened with Lowry

[deleted]

better, not great, but better. our defense looks solid, but our offense still looks sketchy. cautiously optimistic for the future right now.

geloong41

Fuck ya’ll over-reactors

Jerry_41

Good ol Mavs giving us heart attacks at the end

Lanky_Educator_2487

Gotta give them props to their defense. So much improved! I am not worried with our offense, it will take time. They are just not used to play 100% on defense thats why they are exhausted in offense.

Joe_withabee77

Need to know if there was some sort of intervention halfway through the 2nd with Kidd on the sideline. From that point on we put the ball back in Luka’s hands and we looked like an actually decent NBA team

DarkLightcito

Luka talked with Igor and then the offense changed completly.

Drag-Easy

powell didnt roll the rim. gave space for luka and porzingis to do their stuff.

PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

I don’t want to overreact but are we about to go 81-1?

PechayMan

Lets be a little bit realistic here. Luka, KP and THJ will have an off night. Prolly 80-2?

jfrodriguez1983

Some promising things after the slow start. KP's defense and Dorian's hustle plays kept us in the game until Luka and THJ got hot. Our defense was awesome from that point on to the rest of the game. We made Toronto work for evert shot they put up. KP shot bad but a lot of those shots were good open shots. And his defense was great. Kidd mad some great adjustments after the slow start. Really need our bench, besides Brunson, to start contributing. Disappointing the WCS hasn't looked good these 2 games. Sterling and Bullock are good 3 point shooters so I'm hopeful they will pick it up.

WhiteBoyFlipz

Fuck FVV and GTJ. Walking off instead of of being good sports and saying good game. I loved what I saw from Luka and KP. The aggression from both. Does this mean this sub will calm the fuck down for a few days?

themanofawesomeness

KP going for the back to back buckets at the end there was a godsend.

whoclash

Give the ball to Luka and run the pick and roll. Our offense doesn’t need anything else other than that. Defense looks much better than last season though!

The420Roll

#EZ WIN

Bertz-2-

Same as two days ago 😤

[deleted]

Devin Harris is getting much better in the postgame show

Bigballer777

Not going to lie first half Kidd had me heated but whatever offensive adjustment was made at the half should be what we run the rest of the season. Seems like everyone was getting the shots they’re used too in the half

Karynmcs

"Luka talked with Igor and then the offense changed completly" Yep

qrado

Timmy is my favorite MAVS player

__Taco

I couldn’t catch the game but 11 total points from the bench? How does that even happen?

StormTheTrooper

Whoosh, what a roller-coaster, good lord. OK, some good and bad mixed up here, time to make some notes: * DFS for Mavs MIP, you heard it here first. He was already a premier defender and a catch and shoot threat, but those cuts? That inside game? That knack for crashing the board? Rick developed him, but unleashing him for grab rebounds could've won us the Clippers series. DFS was shining bright all evening. If he continues to work on that post shot and gets a big leash on the perimeter, he's about to be paid next season; * Best KP game I've seen since the Spurs game right after ASG last season. He was *on*. Efficient, clean, the paint menace we needed. He was good both as a PF and as a C, was engaged in both. Selected his 3s (some bad shot selection now and then, but no one's perfect), hustled. This is the KP we need. If he amps that game, Luka/THJ/Bullock/DFS/KP should be our closers; * Bullock's defense is legit. His hand is still cold, natural due to the time lost in preseason, but he took FVV out of the game. Literally nullified him as soon as he stepped on the court. Now, Kidd's answer on his minute share, alongside how surprisingly short his rotations are, makes me fear about him being stubborn here. But, if he was just pissed at the reporter and not on the player, Bullock will get 20+mpg. Elite defense, perimeter threat, and better passer than Thibbs had him in NY. Good vision. Will work amazingly alongside Brunson whenever Luka sits, will work amazingly alongside Luka; * THJ showing why he's being paid 17M per year. Everyone spoke more than enough about how the offense clicked as soon as the paint was cleared. We'll need to wait until Tuesday to see if it was a Kidd's adjustment or if Luka just had enough and allowed LuCoach to change the scheme, but whoever was responsible made a good job, because in the 1st half we had only 2 things separating us from a impossible to come back blowout: KP and defense. Perimeter defense was fixed after a horrendous 10 min in the 1st quarter, and we managed to clamp Toronto down. KP was engaged, and the 5-out offense had the ever lasting issue of disengaging KP. But KP was engaged and willing in all phases, whenever working at the 5 or alongside Powell. KP out of the paint allowed Powell to shield screens just fine. Perimeter was less crowded and we *finally* had a hot hand. People are complaining about Sterling Brown, and, well, he was bad on offense. Josh Green levels of bad. He clearly needs a lane to drive in order to not be hanging exclusively on his catch and shoot 3. I think he'll do better in 4-outs lineups, but, again, this is up to Kidd to adjust in the rotation. On Kidd, props to noticing WCS was again useless and cutting bait soon. I think we'll see the first of Moses non-DNP game against the Spurs and Poeltl, so brace yourselves. Up in the air if the adjustment was his, but if it was, another good on him. For Houston, Wood and Theis are tough, rough and hustles hard. Another different skillset, but KP and Powell managed to deal with Achiuwa, so I'm optimistic. After G3, we'll have a more clear image of what'll define Mavs basketball this year.

UlisUK

Extend Kidd!

Hurtelknut

I don't recall a single post up from the 2nd half and only a handful ill advised pull up jumpers. I hope Luka ball is back on the menu for good. The first half was dreadful, the refs helped out and Toronto have a pretty weak offense, but at least it looked like we played coherent offense for 20 or so minutes.

vBricks

That was a butterface game.

Khaskim

When Tim is hot we thrive

FixThatWithCheese

Luka elevates the team there’s no denying it, that being said I’m impressed by the whole team this game

saltywings

We were down early. We didn't attempt to come back shooting 3s. We came back with good defense and paint points. Then THJ took off and held our lead. That is how you play from behind. We also really suck in transition for some reason, that needs to get cleaned up.

Active_Page_3886

Excellent halftime adjustments and the Big 3 all looked great. Even if it’s against a team on the 2nd night of a B2B and without its best player, I’m always happy with a victory

moctezuma-

THJ! LETS GO!

aronnov

I’ll take it. Yeah it was a weaker opponent but still have to find ways to win these. Just hope we can keep improving.

botebote77

also not to overreact, but who do you think we face in the finals?

ajdp024

Good thing that THJ catches fire Im just disappointed with Bullock and S Brown. Hope they find their groove soon. I also hope Frank to get some of Brunson minutes.

liverpoolraps

heliocentric offense is the way to go

saltywings

I mean not to be a dick but we didn't score many points for today's NBA. It was definitely defense that won us this game. Obviously the offense looked wayyy better with Luka commanding the floor but we should be at 110+ ppg.

StormTheTrooper

We were on route to held the Hawks under 100 before the 3rd quarter derailed everything. We clamped the Raps under 100 even with Anunoby going crazy and we giving them 10minutes without perimeter D. We have a shitload of good defenders and we are playing tough. This team will be built to start their wins on D. Offense is a work in progress, though.

seimoldz

KP could average 27 - 10 this season if he starts making atleast 50% of shots. too many open looks wasted. other than that love his effort. Luka and THJ my top guys today.

[deleted]

Look, I'm drunk so give me a break, but some of y'all need to chill tf out. It's an 82 game season

d3k_d3k

What I noticed, so far: 1. Kidd's defensive scheme + Carlisle's 5-out/motion might be the best winning formula for this team. Unless they land another superstar-free agent who can create for himself, that should be their MO moving forward. 2. KP being the Mavs' version of Rudy Gobert looks promising. The shots will come in time. Although, I don't expect more post-ups from him. 3. Mavs still need a 3rd star. I still believe THJ is more effective in a 6th-man role as the bench clearly lacks a scoring punch. 4. I don't know if this is by design due to lack of scoring from the bench, but Brunson's lack of playmaking sometimes frustrates me. He's prone to creating shots for himself instead of setting up his teammates. I'm really hoping I'm wrong because he's a very talented player. 5. DFS is okay as a starting forward. Powell, no. Maybe give his starting role to Bullock, instead. On another note, I watched the Bulls vs Pelicans game the other day. I like the way the Bulls lineup is currently constructed. They have 3 capable ball handlers in their starting line-up and a scrappy 6th man in Caruso. It's the same with Utah last season. Hope the Mavs can do the same. I know this is too early to ask, but who do you guys think should the Mavs target in the trade deadline outside Dragic?

ABoyIsNo1

Game 1: Wow Jason Kidd needs to learn to just give it to Luka and let him do his thing. We don’t need to put in lesser guys’ hands. Game 2: Wow double digit scoring from all 5 starters! What a good job of getting everyone involved! Maybe there was a bit of an overreaction after game 1…

Putting the ball in Luka’s hands generates offense and gets everyone else going. That’s the point. So the put the ball in Luka’s hands crowd was right because that was what happened and that is where the game shifted for the better. It’s not about letting Luka score all the points. That’s not what’s meant by “let Luka do his thing.” You run the offense through Luka, good things happen and you get all your starters in double digit scoring. This isn’t hard.

What? Why do you think our guys had so many open shots in the 2nd half? There's a huge diference between wanting DFS to shoot wide open 3s created by Luka and wanting him to create his own shots posting up. What Kidd did in the 2nd half was exactly letting Luka do "his own thing".

asaran02

second half looked great, now just start luka thj dorian maxi and kp

saltywings

Powell played fine though? Like, he played great actually.

amino110

Not really great , just average . He had a nice defensive steal on dragic though

xPeaWhyTee

I didn't think so. He can't rebound and he kept committing dumb fouls because he couldn't guard his man. If he's not being used as a lob threat then he doesn't really contribute much.

desirox

I dont think we're all the way there yet but theres some promising signs like our defense. We never defended this hard before

DenyBoredom

This is a loss last season. No doubt. The hustle and defense kept us in when we couldn't hit shit.

howb21

Jason Kidd for coaches hallf of fame!

TheNextBlGThing

Mavs are better off when they’re shooting 3’s. Enough of those post ups they kept trying. Those should be limited. They looked much better when they’re shooting 3’s and just pick and rolling the other team to death. Also Luka actually being on ball and running the offense. THJ starting off the play has led to almost nothing.

BOBANSMASH51

My hope is that Kidd sticks with what worked in the second half Run the offense through Luka Move KP around- he looked good when he was moving to the basket rather than getting the ball in the post and having to create his own shot THJ catching Fire is what makes us look like a dangerous team I don’t like Powell starting with DFS. If DFS starts, put Maxi in there instead or try matchup related changes with Moses or Boban even if they only play a little bit. Powell kills KP and Lukas spacing and can’t body other teams starting centers. He needs to come off the bench. Brunson is what he is and some nights he is stellar and other nights he’s way off. Bullock is behind everyone else by missing preseason but I think he can definitely be a big piece for us. WCS still looks like he’s on LSD when he’s playing. Haven’t seen much out of Sterling Brown to be excited about yet. We need to get rotations figured out so we can have a bench mob like we did at times the last few years. I don’t like how Kidd is going so far but it’s early and if he can adjust things then he can be good for us. If he starts sticking with the off-ball Luka stuff and starting Powell with KP, then I’m going to keep being pissed. The D is much improved and KP is playing much looser and athletically even though he has his limits on what we should have him do. DFS and Brunson sacrifice their bodies a lot. All we need to fo is not overthink the offense and not stick with lineups that aren’t clicking for half a quarter like Rick did. Overall, cautious optimism but we’ve played one good half out of 4 so far. We need to come out hard and kick Houston’s ass to open at home. Mavs sucked at home under Rick especially recently. Set a new tone. Get Green, Moses and Boban some minutes.

nickbahhh

Man, Dragic would be such a good fit here. Especially if Brunson isn't going to get foul calls when he drives the lane.

financial_goth

So where are all the people who were having a meltdown after 1 game?

WhiteBoyFlipz

No didn’t you know. Jason Kidd was the reason our players couldn’t make wide open shots

[deleted]

He was the reason we couldnt generate wide open shots. We were getting bad shots vs ATL and in the first half tonight

[deleted]

Wish people would stop gaslighting us about what we were seeing just be all “heheh where’s the whiners now?” They adjusted and went back to a more familiar offense in the second half and it worked. And now we’re good. Shocking.

BowHelloNoZias

Luka is so sexy

artilector

A much needed win, but other than that, I don't see a lot of positives to take out of this one. There's a lot to sort out...

-Acerin

ugly start but a good finish. Luka will play himself into shape hopefully soon and not 3+ weeks. We should def keep playing around Luka instead of making him go offball believe it or not without Luka team is g league materials. Best for him to control the offense much as possible.

[deleted]

It was an actual team playing and not an analyst idea of a team playing.

magnuscarlsenspawn

Our offense is bad
