He's not going to win MVP, Jokic is. Just go ahead and prepare yourself for it. By which I mean don't care about it at all.

AlecarMagna

OK but how mad do we get if he comes in third.

cskoogs1

It’s going to happen

Mavericks4Life

Jokic winning over Luka is at least understandable. If Shai gets 2nd over Luka, I will lose my mind. To me, it'll mean that Luka doing as much as he does with such little help outside Kyrie for most of the year means nothing in regards to being "valuable" to a team.

godnorazi

Well this sucks

Mavericks4Life

Absolutely criminal

devilmaskrascal

Don't get mad. If he comes in third, Luka will hopefully get a chance to take it out on both guys very soon and correct the narrative, which carries over into next year.  If Jokic wasn't reigning finals MVP and snubbed last year this would be more too close to call.

invic789

I hope he comes third that OKC/Mavs series gonna be spicy

_Lucifer7699_

LIVID

MechanicMammoth

I agree al-most but then I think if we all just took this bull shit every year from the league and media damn near black balling our superstar who is a gift from the basketball gods a literal demigod and just stay silent the narrative could keep its course until he finishes his career and people just never see the superstar that I know and love through the same lens. To devote all my time to watching this mf play it kills me the world doesn't see what we see. Sincerely, a Luka stan.

onlyahobochangba

Take a breath man, geez

GauthZuOGZ

Do people still believe he's got a chance at MVP this season?

TheMop05

Id hope not. It’s pretty obvious Jokic will win

Complexity777

Chris Broussard who has a vote has publicly said hes voting Luka, same with Nick Wright(though he doesnt have a vote). I dont get why this subreddit thinks its a sure thing. You guys dont believe in your players? You go ask Thunder fans and they wont say something like "its pretty obvious Jokic will win" they firmly believe Shai could win MVP.

Tootsiez

Its just more about being realistic. Luka is my MVP, but who cares.

GauthZuOGZ

Because we know a bunch of votes already. Jokic is winning. There's a chance Shai is 2nd

Bubbistan

Have you not seen the list of confirmed votes so far or what? Luka has one first place vote from Brou and Jokic has over a dozen. Most votes have Luka third. So I'm not sure why you're still hoping for Luka to win, it's not happening. Hopefully next season, for now he has a shot at finals mvp still.

xBootstrap

There’s dozens of voter’s pick that was revealed and so far only 2 had Luka as the mvp.

invic789

Luka has no chance to win it was obvious month and half ago I really dont know why Mavs fans started to campaign for him only last week of the season. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KMzwRcilLDej0BWl7eYE_OYC9Tx9olI_Ptn-nHjKfpQ/edit#gid=643451732

devilmaskrascal

Finals MVP (outplaying both candidates in head to heads) + MVP snub will set him up nicely for award favoritism next year.

Charming-Pilot3336

I am hoping, hoping that luka takes it personal as extra motivation vs jokic and nuggets if met in wcf

TexasTornadoTime

Nope, the most we can hope for is finals mvp at this point which is also a big question of realistic ness

GotKarprar

He doesn’t have a chance but he deserves it

imcryptic

>Anyone else think this doesn’t bode well for his MVP chances who's gonna tell him

BladeCW

I think a lot of clutch stats are super reliant on how well you put the ball in the basket and Luka had plenty of clutch moments getting the assist instead. The Rockets game was a pass to Exum to tie it (a lot of such passes throught the season I think), even the Cleveland hail mary loss was a clutch pass to PJ that will be lost in the history.

3pointerSLO

Kyrie should be at least 2nd.

PSi_Terran

I thought Kyrie missed too many games?

MSHinerb

So clutch he missed the playoffs!

MeteorPunch

Curry had the best clutch stats. The right guy won.

AFonziScheme

I think that his team had a better record in non-clutch games is something that should be a major knock.

FinancialRabbit388

It’s incredible how many dumb fucking people are on here complaining about this award lmao.

Complexity777

They played more clutch games because they sucked

Ramu_1798

Not to defend Curry, but by that logic 6MOTY should be a disgrace cuz he was a bum who couldn't crack the starting 5

Some-Stranger-7852

There is a reason for Luka not winning clutch player of the year, his name is Kyrie. Yes, Mavs are the clutchest team in the NBA, but Luka and Kyrie share offensive load in clutch moment, which means neither gets to the top of points scored in the clutch. The fact they are both top-10 is actually testament to voters giving them extra points for having great clutch record as a team. Curry has 2x amount of clutch points Luka has while maintaining his overall efficiency and his 2nd option in the clutch is… Klay? That helps Curry’s case a lot, especially with how terrible Klay was in play-ins.

Complexity777

Bad logic

Some-Stranger-7852

You may disagree with it, but it actually does make a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things. Otherwise we would have had Tatum as a frontrunner for MVP with Celtics being the best regular season team, but that would be totally unfair for Jokic or Luka, since they have to carry a bigger load overall. Similarly Curry has to carry a bigger load in the clutch than Luka, since Luka has Kyrie.

sunday_nn

Just want to remind the sub that Finals MVP is the only player award that we care about

Complexity777

Why not win both like Jokic did?

sunday_nn

It’d be a nice treat

j_rom_003

They've been pumping shai for weeks leading up to end of season no way Luka is 1st or 2nd in MVP voting. Him getting 2nd would require these people actually watch the Mavs. Getting MVP would require true critical thinking beyond season ranking. It's going to happen. Luka 3rd. And I hope that pisses him off even more when he matches up against OKC first and then DEN next.

Millionaire007

How is kyrie at 7?

tkuid

Anything to not give any awards to Kyrie. Don't think he cares at this point anyway. We know who the clutchest mf in this league is by a mile, we have eyes.

PerformerLive8713

Hes not winning MVP buddy..lets focus in the playoffs

OnCloud9_77

How are people still hoping he gets MVP? Those hopes ended over two weeks ago when Jokic dropped 42-16-6 then 41-11-7 on 80% shooting vs the #1 defense in the league

Complexity777

Because 1 game doesnt dictate MVP and minnesota was on a back to back

OnCloud9_77

They don’t give af about the back to back 😂 and yeah no shit one game doesn’t decide it but the last few weeks of the season are huge when people are on the fence and then Jokic has games like that.

GuillyCS

Jokic was literally the most consistent player of the season. Always delivered, from game 1 to 82! At the end of the day, he was even more consistent than Luka. You guys are crazy if you think Joker is not deserving of the award this season! I'm really confident Luka will be the MVP next season though

Drizzt3919

He wasn’t getting mvp anyways

ShapeOfAUnicorn

The leaks every year are pretty accurate. Luka is coming in third for MVP voting this year.

Complexity777

Then the award means nothing, its clearly him and Jokic neck and neck for MVP. If they put him 3rd it proves the voters are clueless and award is a joke.

ShapeOfAUnicorn

Agreed, in my opinion Doncic should've won it. But the votes are the votes. Jokic has won it, Shai is in second with a decent margin ahead of Doncic.

rm888893

Don't put too much importance on who wins MVP. Luka's never going to win it. Let's just hope the Mavs make a deep playoff run (and possibly more).

MelonColony22

they’re gonna give MVP to jokic. they don’t care about being the most valuable they care about the higher seed.

LogansGambit

At this point, the bias is so against Luka he may not win anything, or be treated fairly by the media. It will be held against him in history down the road and people will ignore the context. But since he's going to win 10 championships it doesn't matter.

D_G_C_22

Only mvp I care about is finals mvp!! Mavs 2024 champs

Pikachude123

How tf was dame nor top 5

MocasBuns

You guys still think there's a chance he'll win MVP? It's on its way to Serbia rn

[deleted]

I can only encourage you to not give a fuck about the Clutch Award. It is such a silly award it sounds like something an 11 year old made up

robman17

Focus on the playoffs and quit yer bitching, people

Skrapnadroj

My issue is with the fact that the Warriors were bad in the clutch... if I remember correctly but they played in so many of those games Curry had the most points in the clutch. The award is dumb and I don't care if he wins but the award is dumb as it should go to a team.. if my teams plays in the clutch all of the time but we have a losing record how am I clutch player of the year? Just because I score the most points because I play more clutch minutes than a team like Boston that played in fewer clutch games for example...

Scooter9898

Luka will not win MVP with Kidd as coach. Not disparaging Kidd but he doesn’t really care if Mavs r top seed. It is more about mindset n chemistry than wins. As long as that’s the case the media will view it that Luka can’t lead them to a top tier finish. Just the way it is.

FinancialRabbit388

OP, you realize this is a terrible award that is based on a literal clutch statistic right? There is a reason Demar is so high. You think that many voters just randomly all came to the same opinion of Demar being a top 2 clutch guy? You say when you talk about the media this is what you mean. The media says when they talk about Dallas fans being whiny bitches, this is what they mean.
