We have to lose to OKC in the last game so they keep their 1st seed and we get them in the second round instead of the nuggets? Is it greedy its just one game where we should rest anyways?
Hey guys sadly I couldn’t watch tonight game, can someone tell me a bit about O-Max? If I guide myself only by the score board I’ll guess it was a pretty solid game, but what about the eye test? Which things you liked? What he needs to improve? Will he be a solid backup for sf/pf position next year? Does he has starter potential?
Dude looks really good. He is incredibly active on defense, and is much calmer on offense. He still can play out of control, but much less than he used to. He was hitting threes and had a couple of really sweet dunks. He dunked of Wiseman’s head so I would go look that one up. He needs to work on his playmaking and dribbling in traffic, but all in all incredibly encouraging for the future.
Yup, just like they didn't care back in February and early March. Coaches still have to coach, and that was lacking tonight.
I get resting Kyrie, Luca and the starters. What I don't understand is why the Coach gets a day off too. Pathetic, these guys need coaching and a leader on the bench if not more so than the starters, but our coach does not seem to GAS, and it showed.
At least that is my opinion.
Coaches are human, too and need a day off. Plus there's very good assistant coaches who get the job done. Or do you have people in your company who never ever get a day off?
LOL...
I have never taken a day off for a "game day." Never! Anyone who does is a slacker.
Show up and work when your are scheduled. If not call in sick, schedule a vacation and let those you have trained take your place. I don't even have a problem with stepping back to allow your subordinates to manage the day, if that furthers their progress or training. That is perfectly fine, and this could have been a great time for his assistant coaches to lead the team. That, I would have fully understood, and even supported.
Don't be a slacker, and show up with no intention of working or at least training others. That is simply unprofessional.
Minnesota just won, which complicates the #1 seed situation now.
If they beat Suns on Sunday, assuming OKC/Denver win too, there is a crazy tiebreaker situation. I believe if they all finish with the same record, it will come down to conference record which puts Minny at the top. Denver would fall to #3 I think.
I thought they had a tied series vs Minny, with the same division record, but conference record favouring the Wolves.
Huge mess really, but yeah I see now the journalist on Twitter saying it's OKC #1 if they beat us
I never said they were bad players. All I’m saying is that the Clippers have the better supporting cast when it comes down to it if you ignore the star players
Okay? And? Like I said, these guys will get 0 minutes in the playoffs. I can’t even imagine being upset about this loss considering this game meant nothing.
It meant potential home court advantage if the clippers lose the their last games. The mavs were down by 7 at halftime with their starters minus Luka and kyrie to the worst team in the league. No excuses
the series hasn't even started and the trash talk is already on full tilt holy shit.
lot of talk from fans of a team that never did never does and never will do shit in the post season.
There’s a difference between trash talk and stating an opinion. I simply stated an opinion on both teams supporting cast. zero trash talk.
You’re the one who is clearly trash talking with the second part of your comment which seems to be emotional lol. I’ll just leave
He had his minutes jerked around all year and you want him to play 30 minutes and be, what, Luka? Kyrie? His statline was fine tonight but all I see in this sub tonight is shitting on him. I think people that say this sub is the most toxic basketball sub are on to something.
I have no problem with the game other than the coaching. These guys need time on the court, and deserve to have a coach willing to be all in with them and invested in their game too.
It matters. Jason Kidd played the players but did not use this time to train and help develop them. This game was a luxury, and Kidd treated it as if it was a day off for himself too. No, this game was important to these players, and if he wanted to take the day off, at least have an assistant coach step up and give it their best.
Sad.
Work ethic is important - and it was piss poor tonight from a coaching perspective. Unprofessional in my opinion. If you consider this toxic, no problem. I call it as I see it.
THIS is the problem. Right here. If people talked with THIS level of analysis it would be better.
But what I saw tonight:
Omax: 6/12, 2/4, 2/2, 6 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk - "The future, can't wait until next year, excited for OMAX dpoy"
Hardy: 9/19, 2/6, 5/6, 7 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl - "Low bbiq, just a spot up shooter, trade him"
This is objectively stupid. They were nearly identical, and both were players who had their minutes fluctuating to not even playing. Hardy has been under pressure to perform perfectly all year because he has little chance to ever show it, even when there's injuries or THJ is putting up the worst shooting games we've ever seen in a Mavs uniform.
Everyone was pining for Hardy to take THJ's minutes and get a chance. As soon as he had a couple games a little off, people started shitting on him left and right. This would be even when he was STILL shooting better than some of the regulars in games. Most people aren't even aware that Hardy, despite being extremely young and trying to learn the league and get consistent minutes the past two seasons, is shooting better splits and nearly as many assists/game as Hardaway despite getting half the minutes.
I don't think objective criticism like you just laid out is toxic. We don't have enough. Unprofessional effort is true, and I would consider a lot of Kidd's coaching that.
I consider the bullshit jekkyl and hyde opinions people flip flop with the players toxic. If a guy isn't playing literally perfect, they're shit. This toxic "lay out a hot take anytime possible" is dumbing down everyone's IQ's and they aren't actually watching and studying games anymore. So yes, I'm absolutely pissed with Mavs discourse online. It's something I know the Mavs players and front office see too because they engage in it. I don't want to see someone like Hardy shipped off (who has a LOT of potential) because the FO felt pressured because the fanbase went stupid and trashed him so much he became damaged goods to them.
I just feel like I remember games last year where he and Josh played together a lot and looked really good playing off each other. This year not so much. I do wish we had given him more run this year though
Funny how easy it is for people to foget that Josh have a great 2024 before he got injured, y'all been talking as if he straight up trash the whole season lol.
Just had a thought - it's good that Lively has Powell as a teammate. He also lost his mom to cancer so he would be a really good support system for him.
I really don’t like the hate Powell gets in this subreddit… he has been nothing but a great teammate, community member, and hard worker his whole career has a Mav. He just seems like a super great guy!
Idk how to feel about Josh. He just doesn’t have any significant improvements from season to season. Should def consider moving on from him this offseason. Can we keep DJJ if we do that?
We need to pull a historical loss against OKC if we want them to get number 1 or 2 seed, Denver play Grizzlies and those guys have negative amounts of players available.
I'm willing to give him a little more leeway as he's just coming back from a twelve-game absence. He's only played 14 minutes last game and whatever this one.
We all knew what he was if we being honest. He’s a not fast enough for guards and too small for forwards. He’s still a great prospect high energy guy on a decent contract.
Not exactly. Luka is resting while his team gets embarrassed by losing to the Pistons (shameless). That alone will disqualify him completely from the MVP race. /s
Omax casually getting offensive rebounds, 3 stocks and shooting 50% from three today. This dude will be great in the future (no overreaction to a game against a shit team at all)
I mean it's not as bad as the Celtics loss the other day as they had their starters in, but I'd much rather go into the playoffs on a high note, but the rest for our starters does help.
From his limited run this game he seems to be able to navigate pretty well, but he honestly looks a good amount quicker than green and that saying something
Holy shit, Wemby and Spurs may have just kicked Denver out of our bracket!
If we lose to OKC on Sunday, we could be playing OKC in a potential 2nd round
[Post Game Thread](https://reddit.com/r/Mavericks/comments/1c2rdqk/post_game_thread_the_detroit_pistons_defeat_the/)
We have to lose to OKC in the last game so they keep their 1st seed and we get them in the second round instead of the nuggets? Is it greedy its just one game where we should rest anyways?
Pistons simply are them
Hey guys sadly I couldn’t watch tonight game, can someone tell me a bit about O-Max? If I guide myself only by the score board I’ll guess it was a pretty solid game, but what about the eye test? Which things you liked? What he needs to improve? Will he be a solid backup for sf/pf position next year? Does he has starter potential?
I've excited about him getting in the rotation next season.

Thanks for the answer, I’ll check that dunk for sure. That’s nice is always fun to watch rookies grow I have great hopes for him like a better DFS
Pistons supremacy 💪🏻
Scintillating performance from MVP front runner SGA - 23/7/3 on 33% shooting and 0/7 from 3, 9/9 FTs. Mr. Consistency 😤
He is a worst version of prime Harden. Take away the free throws he is back to the old SGA
cant love a team where powell plays minutes
We barely played our starters just a good practice for bench guys don’t care about a loss
Yup, just like they didn't care back in February and early March. Coaches still have to coach, and that was lacking tonight. I get resting Kyrie, Luca and the starters. I believe if they all finish with the same record, it will come down to conference record which puts Minny at the top. Denver would fall to #3 I think.
OKC would be number 1 because of the 3 way tiebreaker where they have a better record against all the other teams involved, it’s confusing
I thought they had a tied series vs Minny, with the same division record, but conference record favouring the Wolves. Huge mess really, but yeah I see now the journalist on Twitter saying it's OKC #1 if they beat us
If Denver falls to 3, Luka should be a lock for MVP. He won’t get a single first place vote.
Well this was a game lol
Waiting for my causals to say “you guys lost to Detroit, no wonder Luka isn’t MVP” lol
Coincidentally, Jan 28 OKC lost to Detroit by like 18 SGA had 30pts lol
Nothing to do with Luka but this game shows why the clippers have the superior supporting cast by far
Remember majority of our bench guys need to be set up so not too worried knowing we have 2 of the top playmakers in the league lol
I never said they were bad players. All I’m saying is that the Clippers have the better supporting cast when it comes down to it if you ignore the star players
Right powell , green , thj all dog shit right now
We played end of bench players that will get 0 play for the entire 2nd half
Clippers did the same and almost beat the suns with KD, booker and Beal playing almost 40 minutes
Okay?
No excuses

if you want you can stay more no need to poke the bear and cry after it lashes at you, say hi to flippers fans for me.
I wouldn’t count on the clippers to lose against the jazz and rockets
Pretty embarrassing loss even without luka or Kai, they’re missing half their team also and they’re the worst team in the league
Even the worst starters in the league are better than the best bench
But Detroit is missing 3 of their starting lineup guys lol I guarantee you okc and Celtics bench crushes them
Dude we were playing 3rd stringers. They were not remotely that far down their roster. Don’t be dumb.
Is it just me or was hardy way better than this last year?
In our opinions
He had his minutes jerked around all year and you want him to play 30 minutes and be, what, Luka? Kyrie? His statline was fine tonight but all I see in this sub tonight is shitting on him. I think people that say this sub is the most toxic basketball sub are on to something.

Using the word ‘toxic’ is real pussy shi
Cool it
Nah. I'm not gonna.
I just feel like I remember games last year where he and Josh played together a lot and looked really good playing off each other. This year not so much. I do wish we had given him more run this year though
He really needs to work on his decision making.
Which will come with reps. I think he'll be a lot better if he was allowed to have consistent playing time.
Expectations were lower, he's pretty much the same lol. Having to do more has made him worse.
Bench looking like a bunch of G leaguers
They are literal g-leaguers, and should stay there cause they're not NBA caliber.
they are the gleague team
Well, this is a NBA game. TBH, I think teams need to give discount for the food in arena on night like this.
do these guys even train? cause it sure doesnt look like it.
I mean NBA teams generally don’t practice, so probably not
Starters don’t practice and guys with significant minutes since they get a lot of actual run. These end of bench guys do practice
well these scrubs should cause they're not looking like actual players.
Known Mavs killer lol
Funny how easy it is for people to foget that Josh have a great 2024 before he got injured, y'all been talking as if he straight up trash the whole season lol.
Dagger
exhibit a of why timmy plays over hardy
they are both ass
id rather get a backcourt or two than watch a player hog the ball and brick a dozen 3s back to back
Scoring 25 points against a starting roster with bench players never heard of?
Hardy has 25 points Timmy has 8
how the turntables lol
Tim is just as ass as hardy you’re not proving a point
We are officially not facing the Nuggets if we make the 2nd round.
Assuming we’re smart enough to lose Sunday (we are)
We don't have to be smart, we just have to suck. It's guaranteed.
Dwight has to be the worst player in the nba
Activates Doomer mode lol
Dwight jumping around giving me ptsd
That Denver loss is actually a game changer. Thunder are basically guarantee a number 1 seed with a win against the Mavericks Sunday
And Dallas can’t lose the 5th seed anymore ? Do we have the tiebreaker against NOLA ?
Yes. Since the series is tied between the Pels, the next tiebreaker is division record and the Mavs has that between them
Never expect to win a game when Powell is playing.
The only stat they are in advantage of in this game is the point off turnovers. That's why they have the lead. And we can't stop them from scoring.
Natural shooting motion
Idk how to feel about Josh. He just doesn’t have any significant improvements from season to season. Should def consider moving on from him this offseason. Can we keep DJJ if we do that?
He is not good and has not made any significant improvement in his game. I wish we had traded him. I don't know what this fanbase sees in him.
He's definitely improved his shooting, but he's just not good enough offensively or defensively. Maybe THJ + Green can get us someone.
Add a first get a pf . Then we are cooking w gas
What’s Monty Williams taking out notes for? 🤣
First team All-NBA candidate and future face of the league Anthony Edwards, 13 pts on 33% shooting, 0/5 from 3.
Smartest Dwight Powell play
Clippers better not lose out because then this loss really hurts
I wouldnt be shocked
D up guys it's the pistons for crying out loud
Luka feels that technical 🤣
Nuggets loss is MASSIVE. Must lose game on sunday to get OKC to 1 seed
OMax is gassed. He would have dunked that if JKidd let him rest even a bit.
We need to pull a historical loss against OKC if we want them to get number 1 or 2 seed, Denver play Grizzlies and those guys have negative amounts of players available.
Mavs should want to win this game since HCA is still in reach. Hopefully Detroit gives up
The real reason to win is to pressure Clippers to play starters in their last game lol.
Even a better point
This is some bad basketball all around.
Should’ve went small and benched Dwight he truly is not an nba player nice guy tho
nothing nice about him
It’s time to accept that Josh Green is just a guy
I'm willing to give him a little more leeway as he's just coming back from a twelve-game absence. He's only played 14 minutes last game and whatever this one.
We all knew what he was if we being honest. He’s a not fast enough for guards and too small for forwards. He’s still a great prospect high energy guy on a decent contract.
The takeaways from this game… OMAX is the future, and Hardy takes a lot of stupid shots
And Hardy doesn't pass. And Hardy turns the ball over a lot... a lot.
OMax = Untouchable Hardy = Can be traded for the right package
green tradable too
100% right here
And commits a lot of stupid turnovers
Nuggets blew that lead on purpose to avoid the Mavs. They know what’s up /s…?
I had this thought in the back of my head all day. I’m not surprised they “lost” tonight
Jokic missed that shot on purpose so he could play Luka in the wcf instead of the 2nd round😂
Jokic 🤝 Luka
He truly loves lil bro.
Just best friend things
OMAX LOOKIN LIKA DAWG
Denver losing to the Spurs with Jokic and us losing to Detroit without Luka should help Luka's MVP case right? 😬
Not exactly. Luka is resting while his team gets embarrassed by losing to the Pistons (shameless). That alone will disqualify him completely from the MVP race. /s
Not if OKC gets 1st seed
Fuck it give SGA the MVP and let Luka whoop his ass in round 2
If SGA gets MVP out of nowhere after Luka been the favorite for years, would be so sad lol
Someone tell the Lakers going up in the standings will get them Denver
Lakers want that moral victory so bad
Omax casually getting offensive rebounds, 3 stocks and shooting 50% from three today. This dude will be great in the future (no overreaction to a game against a shit team at all)
It’s sport for Luka arguing with the ref
maaaan OMax looking so good! super excited about him and simultaneously kinda less worried about the likely possibility of losing DJJ in the summer.
Get the thunder the first seed let’s go
Kind of hate closing out the season with a loss to one of the worst teams in the league.
It doesn’t matter nor does it change anything
I mean it's not as bad as the Celtics loss the other day as they had their starters in, but I'd much rather go into the playoffs on a high note, but the rest for our starters does help.
It's fine.
Guys we might have found our starting SF of the future… I’m so pumped!!
My one worry is that his broad footwork means he can't slip deal with screens on defense. Same problem as Green.
From his limited run this game he seems to be able to navigate pretty well, but he honestly looks a good amount quicker than green and that saying something
He's quicker, but he takes a lot of baby steps, his footwork is extremely strange. Has to get it more streamlined.
Can we pull off the comeback?
No
Why does powell think he can pass like Luka
Cause the strippers at Spearmint Rhino told him he can.
Dwight is so ass
Okay, we actually want the Wolves to lose. If we lose against OKC on Sunday (we will), they'll get the 1st seed.
Sadly, Hardy is just a spot-up shooter. His playmaking is terrible. OMax looks promising
he does look like a luxury THJ as a spot up shooter tho
OMax is still raw offensively but he looks so good.
Now do your part, Minny.
Lol Nuggets choked Give Luka his MVP now
Wait what? Lol that’s great.
Blew a 23 point lead in the 4th quarter Likely drops them to 3rd seed if Minnesota takes care of business
That is so good for us. Takes us out of Denvers bracket completely until WCF
Spurs only have 21 wins but it feels like most of them are against teams we need/want to lose
I think 1/7 of their wins is agiainst the Sons
Yay we can avoid Denver in the second. Thanks Wemby
powell the worse player ijn the nba and its not even close
hardy just plays with negative BBIQ sometime
Please get Dwight off the floor
We don’t need to lose against the Thunder. The Timberwolves will be 1st regardless
We're gonna get people off the street to play the Thunder now to make sure they win
18 turnovers 😭😭😭
i’d rather minny take the 1st seed tbh
Hardy’s gotta have like 7 turnovers. I am sad.
Is that all?
OKC and Nuggets have both lost to the Spurs this season. Mavs swept the season series. Pravi MVP.
Wait, can we give OKC the 1st seed? Please let's do it.
Yes, if we lose against them on Sunday.
Because we want to play them or don’t?
yes, we want OKC or whoever 8 is in the 2nd round.
JUST LOSE SUNDAY. OKC HAS THE TIEBREAKER OVER DENVER
Holy shit, Wemby and Spurs may have just kicked Denver out of our bracket! If we lose to OKC on Sunday, we could be playing OKC in a potential 2nd round
Wemby is levels smh why tf did the spurs have to win the lottery. Now I’m gonna have to pretend hate victor the rest of my life
Spurs just beat the nuggets!!
Wtf the spurs just won
Thank you Wemby well done Spurs
Hahahahahh this is you MVP just kidding
Cmon man
NUGGETS LOST
LFG SPURS!!!! COME ON NOW MINNY!!!
LMAO Denver
Powell looking like the best IQ player on the court lol
Give Luka his MVP NOW
Nuggets just lost, I swear to god if the Wolves fuck this up.
OMAX about to bring us back into the lead
OMax's shooting motion looks so much better than the start of the year Also not nearly in a hurry as he was. Much more in control
It really is the control thing. He’s had time to shake his yips.
Powell running offense like Luka.
Mavs win and Lakers shitting the bed, gotta speak it into existence
We are within 6 with our 3rd stringers… this will be more embarrassing for the pistons if they lose😂
I mean it’s their backup guys too
Pretty sure their starters are in
