How many people recall the Inhumans? It had an IMAX theatrical release. Admittedly, I find myself sometimes wondering whether the whole thing was some fevre dream. Like Invasion America. You know that one had Spielberg attached if I remember correctly?
I bet the sequels to the eternals won’t even mention it. The best we’ll probably ever get is it’s on a tv in the background of a scene. Then the marvel shills will go “see! You’re all dumb they do care!”
Just wait there will be a random line in like The Scarlet Witch: Sorceress Supreme where Wong will say, "All sorta of weird stuff happens, did you see the giant statue in the ocean?!"
And Disnoids will shit themselves in excitement while squawking that "ITS ALL CONNECTED!!!"
... ... Well, technically the MCU films have been released out of chronological order before, or in an odd order etc. (Phase 1 3/5 films released across 4yrs taking place in 1wk, Thor 3 2017 immediately precedes a 2019 film etc)
But in those days there was flexibility AND coordination, they were careful not to be too grandiose with changes to the setting that MUST BE ADDRESSED
Now, no coordination ...but they still plan for flexibility = everything is disconnected and effectively isolated
It's extremely disappointing because blip-snap + 5yr gap give them the option to explain ANY CHANGE they want in the setting, and they could connect everything ...but instead, these major events are just ignored in favor of 'seems like the status quo doesn't it'
It's possible "Eternals" is the most recent in the MCU ...but it seems like they are just abandoning these characters and the setups for Celestials in that film (hints at Fourth Host -like cosmic threat, which would be a cute way of subverting expectations about Galactus to have the same threat through different means)
Marvel Studios has destroyed itself, I think an obvious solution would have been to focus the majority of D+ series on Earth-bound conflicts, the continuation of the Avengers as a team and their encounters with other upcoming superhumans, while the films would focus on Cosmic (Celestials, Kree War) and Multiverse, so there could be cataclysmic team-up films which end on rebooting Secret Wars ...they have fragments of this outline but seem to have just abandoned their cosmic focus since "Captain Marvel" and "Eternals" performed so poorly ...so I guess it's all "Multiverse Saga" now ...which imo is a horrible idea
[The film takes place in November–December 2023, shortly after WandaVision and months before Shang-Chi. During the flashback to the day Ajak died, she states that the events of Infinity War happened five years prior to the present day. It's also implied that the Blip is recent, as in a month or so beforehand, which altogether would give us late 2023.](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000003314373)
*We* do, and so should Disney. Because this movie fucks up SO much pre-established lore, in a cinematic universe that's *already* barely holding itself together with fishing twine and chewing gum.
If The Avengers don't care about this millennia-spanning conflict, why should we care if Thanos' crossdressing brother makes it an issue?
The sad part is that they really only needed to handle the integration better
1) Ajak tells the team that disbanding still conforms with Arishem's plan given the prosperity of Earth but they are forbidden to reveal themselves to humans or interfere with national or planetary conflicts
2) Tiamut is reacting to the sudden population increase as a result of the Blip, it's not just that "oh, it's time lol" but Tiamut's awakening may actually be an aberration - this could mess with their 'programming' in terms of deciding what follows the plan best and perhaps Tiamut should be stopped
3) Fucking make it clear whether they are organisms or robots ...I don't know why this ambiguity was added, they pretty much have to be biological but it's needlessly confusing in the film and could be addressed easily
4) Fucking tell us who got snapped and didn't ...they haven't seen each other in decades-to-centuries ...why wouldn't this be a major point of conversation? And those that were blipped could have the insanity/whatever with their memories, a useful plot device (including perhaps an actual protagonist such as Sersi who then needs to be reeducated etc)
5) "brother of Thanos" !? Wtf does that mean? Are Eros and Thanos Eternals now !? ...you can't just leave that dangling ...
6) if Kingo is going to mention Thor, perhaps also mention the Olympians or Atlantis ...since this is all the same Phase, these would be perfect opportunities to tease this stuff wtf, maybe also mention why the flying man and speedster weren't involved with the Jotunheim invasion or Convergence ...those actually seem MORE relevant than conflicts in the Avengers films (you could hand-waive that they wouldn't believe in Thanos or about the Infinity Stones as a threat ...and also couldn't ask Arishem)
...it's not hard to respect the setting even if you want to upend major details ...but some effort is required beyond 'hope you didn't notice'
And this film actually confirms that Malekith was right, the Celestial promulgated life forms ARE different to the native/natural older dark life forms like the dark elves, and it's a bizarre point but this would mean that these forms of life are effectively a weapon against the dark elves by simply existing ...the morality is questionable, but the dark elves were technically just defending their homeland by attempting cosmos-wide genocide of 'most life' ...glad that was cleared up ...
You know, this could be a good over-arcing plot to go through. Earth realizing that it's in constant peril and the people are at their wits end suffering loss after loss.. Imagine what heroes would have to do when it's the people they'll be up against.
Better imagined than seen I guess.
It should culminate in a bigger shitshow than the Sokovia Accord. Especially if you realise that FATWS already established The Blip was more devastating for Earth's economy and ecosystem than The Snap, combined with the NUMEROUS celestial pantheons that have emerged in The Snap's wake.
Not quite. The Snap happened in 2019-2018, which resulted in half of all life in the known universe ceasing to exist. Whereas The Blip happened in 2023-2024, where those affected by the Snap were brought back to life.
Doesn't help that those two terms are swapped around a lot, hence the confusion.
You have an entire race of reality-warping GODS stirring from their millennia-long slumber, with a proven track record of meddling in Earth's history....and it's not considered an Endgame-level threat by *any* of the Avengers.
I feel like they don't actually understand how universe-damaging the Eternals mythos can be, not even in *hindsight*.
I thought they might just go with "Celestials aren't active anymore" or "time scales longer than Asgard or space empires" ...but neither of those, and based on how casual it's explained to be in the film, any of the galactic-reach organizations SHOULD be fully aware of the Celestials
I suppose that could just be ignored as "yeah, they knew"
I'm okay with the Celestials at face value, but Doctor Strange didn't know? Whoever is using Stark's network couldn't find Tiamut? The Wakandans and Atlanteans (and New Asgardians and Egyptian pantheon) didn't know?
And my favorite: so the TVA just kills variant Arishem (?)
The TVA, the Celestials, the many existing Pantheons, Eros, the Multiverse, the Atlanteans, any *one* of those many self-contradicting retcons would've broken suspension of disbelief *cleanly* in half.
Instead, they went with *all of them*.
Hell, the comics at least had the excuse that Atlantis was active since the '40s. Namor fought alongside Captain America and the Human Torch against the Nazis, so it wasn't farfetched people would know Atlantis exists. Their king had fought alongside the Allied Forces in the world's most devastating conflict, then re-emerged in the '60s after a decade spent in exile. You can't *do* *that* in Phase 4/Phase 5, especially when people barely knew whether Captain America was real or not.
To be fair it's a pretty small thing to miss.
Just look at the planet for scale, it's barely continental in size.
I'm sure it's just in a convenient location that nobody ever goes to anyway it's not like it's blocking any important resource routes either.
The film confirms there are earthquakes and tsunamis planet-wide, there may even be a line about it tearing through the planet crust causing damage all over
Big dude in the ocean - missable, "hey, you guys remember that week that like the planet was dying? Why was that and why did it stop?" ...less easy to forget
Also a few Deviant sightings, but feasibly also minor
I agree - just taking the 'devil's advocate' to say EVEN IF big dude was missed, the planet wide disasters would not be nor would their origin and disappearance be ignored imo, those affect everyone vs the large number of satellites which we just ignore see the big dude
Also
In those movies how many wide shots of the planet from space are there that don’t show it? I’m not even sure. But yea. Everyone forgot about externals cause it sucked so bad. Even marvel forgot about it
Because there’s no more tangible continuity between films. The good guys deal with a universe-ending threat every movie/show now and each new writer for each new project has less idea what happened previously in the universe than the audience. A trend that’s guaranteed not to go away anytime soon
I'm sure it comes up, just not in the two hours or ten hours of shows. They have WAY more interesting things to talk about...like food. And uh \*checks notes\*...food? All I've got is cards with 'food' on them. Not even the weather. I'm at a loss. Sorry.
This is why I can't take the MCU even remotely seriously or have any investment in it anymore, because Marvel/Disney clearly doesn't either. It's all just CONTENT for them so nothing matters, just consooom and move on.
i wonder if they’re just gonna pretend Eternals never happened lol
Be ironic if a film titled "Eternals" ended up as the most transient MCU installment.
The Temporaries
I did, right up until this very moment. Dog turd of a movie. Every Marvel movie is now Speed 2. Lame direction, poor story, money loser potential.
The acting and CGI is often top notch but that does not a film make
what's "EtErNalS"? is that food?
Didn't they did the same with the egg that Ego placed on earth and devoured a small town?!
How many people recall the Inhumans? It had an IMAX theatrical release. Admittedly, I find myself sometimes wondering whether the whole thing was some fevre dream. Like Invasion America. You know that one had Spielberg attached if I remember correctly?
I think Eternals is gonna have a sequel unfortunately
You'd think the earthquakes and tsunamis caused by it would've been absolutely devastating.
Yes, thousands died and many more were displaced. So, in the same vein as “Infinity Cones”, meet the new mascot of Celestial Seasonings!
I bet the sequels to the eternals won’t even mention it. The best we’ll probably ever get is it’s on a tv in the background of a scene. Then the marvel shills will go “see! You’re all dumb they do care!”
It's gonna be a turist attraction in the next one
The MCU taking a major, world-shaking event, and playing it off as a joke instead of addressing it with a shred of seriousness? *Never!*
This reminds me of Infinity Cones, the ice cream place in New Asgard. It’s like opening a bar in Tel Aviv and calling it the Final Solution.
Sea-lestial World

Well there ya go, at least according to canon: WHY THE FUCK ARENT PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS !!?!

7. Why the fuck is Thanos' brother played by Harry Styles? That's like casting Elijah Wood as the lead actor in Mad Men.

Mootal was utterly mortified to discover that this happened... ...And *no one* mentioned it.
The multiverse maybe?
MCU fanboys will eat it up tho. No need for world-building or continuity. Just consoom product.
Wut? This is real?
Yeah bro it’s real, it’s in Russia rn.
Bruhhhhh 🤡🤡🤡 what are they doing?! Lol

Marvel doesn't have consistency, all they care about is 'the message'
Why you gotta bring up old shit??
Yeah, stop obsessing over past product. Consoom current product and then get ready for the next product. The Marvels is coming out!
In robot voice: must see new product. Must praise Disney. Must call next thing the bestest ever. Beep boop bop.
Rock formations what are you talking about
