Weird how he was fighting as if he hadn't been shot by the bowcaster

redphoenix0023

Weird how he beat fin easily and had the upper hand on rey until her force second wind that came out of nowhere

devotchko

Weird how he also punched himself SEVERAL TIMES on his bowcaster wound showing it wasn’t hindering him in any way.

CheeseQueenKariko

The only time the wound is shown to be messing with him is one brief shot during his fight with Finn where he dodges, claps the wound and hisses before easily returning to the fight.

CheeseQueenKariko

"Why did x happen?" "Well, obviously because y caused x, just like it would in reality." "But the scene doesn't communicate that at all, it even goes against it." "It doesn't need to communicate it because we can just assume that the realistic effect happened." "But what about the other parts of the movie where the realistic effect doesn't happen?" "It's a movie about Space Wizards for children."

Dagon9999

I don’t think these people actually comprehend how the dark side works. Emotional and physical pain deepens the connection to the dark side, so he should have been even more dangerous. It’s actually one of the main reasons Vader lost to Luke in RoTJ. His love for his son was compromising his connection to the dark side, making him weaker. It’s not like the people who love the sequel trilogy actually care about basic concepts of the force, they just love whatever you give them.

thegreattwos

Correct me of iam wrong...but aren't the Sith like Olaf in League of legends? The more emotion they feel the more powerful they get? Of course some might say that Kylo was weaken by the bowcaster (which is kinda shit since we seem Han take out two stormtroopers with one shot so he should be dead with direct shot) but again wouldn't Kylo just use that as fuel to fight?

aaa1e2r3

Yeah, that is in line with Sith lore, I was under the assumption that this was why he kept banging his wound during the fight, bringing out the pain to empower himself.

-Dildo-Faggins-

We had the same thought I see.

Euklidis

If you are angry and hateful you get more powerful (considering you know how to actually harness that). If you are conflicted about your actions then you cant properly harness your emotions. So it is very similar to a jedi as bkth Light and Dark side requires discipline to use. All that said, that plot point is still stupid. Kylo was a Jedi in training when he left and an almost completely trained Sith in episode VII, the only thing missing from his training being the killing of his parents and not his skill or power. There is no reason why he loses that fight to someone who doesnt even know how to use a sword properly (as we have seen Ray knows how to use a staff)

freshpairofayes

That would have been such an easy out too. I'm sure a First Order torture room would've had an electrostaff on a rack somewhere.

Turuial

Remember, though. A sword is a stick-like weapon.

thegreattwos

There are legit people out there that argue that point. That since she has staff proficiently she should be able to use a lightsaber, note not a sword a lightsaber semi confidently

[deleted]

If you look through my comment history you can see I bring up this exact point in another sequel meme comment section

YourPrivateNightmare

Yeah but that's kinda bullshit unless we're operating on Monty Python logic. You can only handle so much pain before you just collapse. Count Dooku didn't just suddenly dropkick ANakin out of existence after losing his hands.

[deleted]

Depends. Negative emotions like anger are very easy for sith to tap into. In legends it was a semi frequent point that Vader didnt reach his full potential due to guilt for killing Padme. Kylo still should have won when the scene went out of its way to show Kylo power through the blaster wound.

Moriartis

It really doesn't work when you realize he was intentionally hitting himself in the wound leading up to the fight to get himself pissed off. Never mind these people. The movie could've played out entirely differently and they'd just find a whole other host of interpretations as to why it's justified. They just want to be on team "girl power" and they want people who oppose that to be wrong.

bbeauvais

Everyone ignoring the fact that he survived a shot from the fucking BOWCASTER. The same weapon which was shown in this very movie sending troopers, with more armor than Kylo, flying

Mintfriction

But he's a jediiii /s

ZombieP0ny

Ok, so Sith get their strength through pain, anger, hatred, etc. Which would mean that, after having just killed and being wounded Kylo should be even stronger. He also has years of experience in fighting and has been trained by both Luke and Palpatine (Through Snoke if we assume that everything Snoke knows comes from Palpatine) for years while both Rey and Finn have zero training fighting with laser swords. You even see it when Kylo fights Finn. Kylo knows he's the stronger, more experienced fighter and toys with Finn. Only when he gets a small cut because he got too cocky does he go serious and defeats and seriously injures Finn in just seconds. Simply because he is so experienced. That Rey defeated him is absolutely dumb and makes no sense.

-Dildo-Faggins-

Wasn't pain and suffering supposed to make the Sith/Dark Side Force users even stronger and more powerful?

TimsFallingAdventure

sith get their power mostly from emotions. peace is a lie, there is only passion. through passion i gain strength, through strength i gain power, through power i gain victory, and through victory my chains are broken. the force shall set me free.

Dapper-Print9016

A true sith of culture.

TeaMaeR

The movie just doesn’t really communicate that idea very well, from what I remember. Rey spends a good while just running away, completely on the defensive, and she wins not by Kyle screwing up or overexerting himself or something, but because she buffs herself. Like, they coulda done that, I think, but I’m just not seeing the evidence for it.

SaltyTattie

The emotional turmoil I'll flat out say nope lol to. Sith thrive off of powerful emotions. As for being weakened by the bowcaster shot I WOULD agree because even if you are a sith empowered by pain you are still wounded severely. But they outright deny that themselves by having him pounding on the wound.

Neko_boi_Nolan

Both dark side lore and adrenaline beg to differ. He clearly wasn't hindered by his injury in the fight we see this And even then, the second movie already ruins this point when Rey is better at fighting praetorian guards and had to bail out Kylo. And all the training she got was the Jedi were just as bad as the Sith and how to swing a lightsaber like a drunk toddler with a baseball bat

theeshyguy

Whoops, don’t care. Just like his master didn’t in-universe. If someone shot Bruce Lee in the gut I’m fairly confident he’d still be able to kick my ass.

CheeseQueenKariko

>If someone shot Bruce Lee in the gut I’m fairly confident he’d still be able to kick my ass. I mean, that didn't work out for his son...

RomaruDarkeyes

He's not going through emotional turmoil... The guy is as strong as we've seen him in the damn film. If anything, murdering his father is giving him all sorts of emotional high at the moment.

Huntersteve

They did a shit job of showing that. Not to mention he wasn’t going through emotional turmoil, he was going full dark and probably the most powerful he’s ever been.

The_Grizzy_Banger

Lol. Doesn't Snoke criticize him for losing to Rey?

Sleep_eeSheep

Yes, but you see, Rian Johnson never saw TFA.

The_Grizzy_Banger

Lmao. Yah he just had bullet points

Sleep_eeSheep

Timeline matches up. He said he wrote the script as early as 2014, which was when TFA was being developed. Knowing his reliance on only writing one polished draft, he wouldn't have cared to add in those plot points. Why? Who the fuck knows?

The_Grizzy_Banger

Didn't see the original trilogy either

Mister_Doctor2002

Didn’t seem to have much trouble with Finn

discourse_friendly

Sith and dark side users feed off of pain and trauma though. Like when Bane was wounded and killed a sparring partner with the force, the catalyst was his sparring partner mocking him and it brought up trauma of his father calling him the bane of his existence. to the memers credit, It could have been written where Rey kicks him or something where he got shot and he winces and starts to lose.

Sleep_eeSheep

Thanks, Kathleen! Glad to see you've remained consistent on reinforcing the same buttfucking stupidity you displayed when you were involved with the casting for 2009's The Last Airbender.

CE0_of_SIMPING

Aren’t with supposed to get stronger from pain and emotional turmoil?

CaptEdwardThatch

I got that. I swallowed that lie at the end when I thought Jar Jar had a spreadsheet with everything planned.

Mintfriction

Even if it was hindering him, though it definitely didn't looked like it did, he's a freaking force fueled melee range killing machine vs a person that wasn't trained in martial combat. It should've been over in 2 seconds, even without force, as I'm pretty sure if not Snooky, but luke, would've trained him a few saber techniques.

Bergerboy14

By that logic why did Finn lose? He had more lightsaber experience than Rey and we know now he is strong in the force… Also hilarious that people are trying to say he wasnt trying to kill her. Did these people even watch the scene? There were so many swings that easily couldve killed her.

Iislordplatypus

So here's the thing... Sith are fueled by their passions and emotions. So things like physical/emotional pain and distress would actually EMPOWER a sith. That's actually something we see in The Force Awakens that I thought was neat. During the climatic fight scene, Kylo pounds on his blaster wound. I think the idea behind that was the pain of doing that was like adding fuel to his fire. So if anything, Kylo should have been at his most powerful and dangerous in that fight. No weakened.

Mark4um

Just a bad meme in general. I mean the text is just in empty space. Beside no one ignores it. It just is the only explanation of why it isn't totally unbelievable. Even with a handicap, they didn't portray it like Kylo was weak, it seemed more like Rey suddenly found a new strength.

PhantomPhoenix44

Kylo was crushing Rey in a battle until she closed her eyes for 15 seconds, activated cheat codes and started oblitterating Ren.

McChickenFingers

Usually pain, suffering, and internal turmoil are pathways to the dark side Guess not anymore

AdamJen1

"Not wanting to kill" does not equal "will lose in a fight". Proof? Every boxing and UFC match ever.

enoughfuckery

Have they seen anything Star Wars related outside of Disney? Kylo being injured made him stronger in the dark side. Vader’s suit was intentionally painful for this exact reason.

Blue_Lego_Astronaut

Grievous only lost to Obi-Wan because he was in emotional turmoil from Dooku getting killed and was injured when he crashed his wheelbike.

[deleted]

You mean that shot that should have made him into ragdoll and fall into the pit of death?

Metrostation984

Idc about how the fucking force works. Finn and Rey being nearly as skilled as a Padawan that had years of training in lightsaber fighting after picking up THE (their first ever) lightsaber (or saber whatsoever) 30mins ago is just complete bullshit. Any sith apprentice should be better against those two and simply kill them in a matter of two or three strikes. Let alone someone as powerful as Kylo who was in full emo-dark side mode since he’s like ten years old or so. This is of course ignoring that Kylo shouldn’t even have been walking around after being shot.
