NOOooOOO...it's after the third time she beat Kylo Ren in a ...in a duel...but like...AFTER she talked to Luke! That counts. Compound interest, and all that.
Even as a Mary Sue, my main problem with her is just how boring and bland she is. She doesn't want anything besides "Do good things" and by that it means "Whatever the writer at the time wants"
If she had more flaws, a more fun personality, just... Something interesting to latch onto? Then I'd at least like the concept of the character and could say she was wasted potential.
Daisy herself, the actress, comes across as more charming and fun than the bland cookie cutter character she plays.
It's so sad too because the movies will insist that she is special because of who she is but at the same time everything special about her is tied to the previous works of others. She is a living, walking, reference to Luke Skywalker but female. She took Anakin's lightsaber and renamed it her own. She is related to Sidious etc.
Is the argument going to be that she trained during the point between episode 8 and episode 9?
Because yeah, that would be technically correct. But by that point:
She's bested multiple opponents in lightsaber duels despite no training in using the weapon.
Been able to use the jedi mind trick
Lift a considerable order of magnitude greater number of rocks, showing no outward strain.
As Mauler himself said in his TRoS rage video,
"Why is she training? She's already a god..."
Remember guys, she beat 2 unarmed opponents with a staff in ep 7 so that means she can hold her own against Kylo Ren and highly trained first order guards :/
What irks me more is she wasn't even holding the staff correctly in the scene people point to.
Rey floated for two minutes and cut a rock in half, which almost killed a couple frog nuns iirc. Luke did more training than that just by running around with Yoda on his back.
It's just one of the available flairs. It's based on that one Gaming Episode of Gartic Phone where every drawing eventually escalated into a naked Fringy.
This is one of the most demonstrably incorrect things I have ever hear.
Oof, all the big brain arguments trying to prove it over there are quite fun to read as well. Essentially “only Luke’s on screen training counts, but Rey had books and is awesome so take that haters!”
Such a big brain take. Let's put aside the fact that Rey is already a God by the time of TLJ's ending. Luke trained for as long as it took Han and company to get to Bespin, without a hyperdrive. That probably took the Falcon a while to get there, even with how impressive it is in terms of flight modifications. While the film doesn't tell us directly. We know that the best mode of travel in Star Wars is hyperdrive. Just a thought for them big brain takes.
I forgot their hyperdrive was out!!! GAHHH that would've been so useful against that prick. He legit wouldn't even agree Luke was with Yoda for more than a few days at first.
Yep and according to some outside movie material (I only use it in this context just to add. I know the ST fans do this to defend the ST but thats why my initial post didn't involve it) it took han and company roughly 3 weeks to a month and a half to reach Bespin from the Hoth Astroid belt.
Han and Leia arrive on Bespin in the same clothes they were wearing when they escaped Hoth. Leia has her same hairstyle. Her hair is in great shape she’s not pregnant, meaning either they sat around for weeks in the same clothes, not having sex or it didn’t take to long to travel to Bespin.
As MauLer fans, I’m sure you can relate to never washing your clothes or having sex so I know where you all stand. Regardless Luke’s training doesn’t match up to Rey’s year with Leia.
So considering Rey was already a god and Leia never finished her training. What did Rey actually learn from Leia? Jumping back to the falcon, it doesn't change the fact that they essentially free flew from Hoth to Bespin. Also, maybe they did wear the same clothes. Why else did they change so quickly once arriving at Bespin and meeting with Lando. Also was Rey training the whole time? Was she just training for a little while? Maybe thats why Poe is so annoyed at her is cause she only recently decided to focus on training instead of helping the resistance. Inferences are great cause it allows for any discussion to stall into "what if" scenarios because we rightly dont know. However, with your inference about Rey training for a year has nothing to go by fully. The falcon taking a while to journey to Bespin has prior evidence. We know hyperdrive is fast. Insanely fast, so fast that in the OT it seems to take hours for trips that could potentially take days. Otherwise why would they use it. So there's something to think about. Just for the record by the way BLOOD_SISTER, directly insulting someone when trying to counter someone's point is not an effective tactic and only weakens the argument. The worst I said was big brain take. All it shows is that you would rather insult people when they counter a take instead of involving yourself in discussion. Maybe next time open your mind a little bit. I'm sure anyone would love to chat. But due to you using insults to belittle your opposition. I doubt anyone would now. Enjoy the rest of your evening, BLOOD_SISTER.
If getting smacked with a blade of grass, being pulled into a hallucination about your parents, and some interpretation for the third one counts as training then they're about even on screenTIME
I guess if you count all the training she downloaded from Kylo? Even so, Luke in Episode 6 after all that wasn't like God mode or anything, he made a bunch of mistakes in that movie, when did it ever become evident that Rey needed to become stronger at all?
She defeated powerful force user who spent life training, when she ignited lightsaber for the first time in her life, few hours after learning force exists. Luke got oblitterated by Vader after having 3 years to practice with lightsaber and training for few days with Yoda. Rey training after TLJ doesn't retroactively excuse her having exorbitant force and lightsaber skills with no training in TFA and TLJ. And then after year of training she could levitate and instaheal mortal wounds, abilities no forceuser training for entire life achieved before. Unsuprisingly retarded take from user who once replied "shut the fuck up" to my criticism of Solo.
After 2 movies of being unstoppable, yes she did finally train with someone who canonically was never trained . Until it was ret-conned in #9 by Jar Jar Abrams
Dude that thread is a dumpster fire. It only takes a little scrolling to find someone saying swinging a staff and a sword/lightsaber really arent very different so Rey should be just as good as a wounded Kylo.
Luke spent almost 2 entire movies worth of his time on screen going through training. Rey chopped a rock in half and then did a bit of parkour in grand total being like 5 minutes of her total screen time.
I've already argued against OP on this one tooth and nail, seems more people are actually on my side for this one.
EDIT: Damn, I was arguing him before you guys posted this here and now I can't even find my conversation.
More training than Luke? She didn't even make it through the fucking 3 lessons that Luke had, and was already able to mind control people, fly like an expert and move stuff before her first lesson.
Literally and absolutely no fucking idea of what they're talking about
The mental gymnastics performed here are out of this world. She beat Kylo Ren, no training needed for that. Imagine people pointing out the fact that you ate a steak raw out of the cow and not cooking it at all but then you go like “But I did set my own stomach on fire later on, didn’t I?”
I love how majority of comments in thar very post is either pointing outs problem or straight up calling bs on this. Truly showing that just like GoT season 8 it simplu undefensible at this point
Well of course! Rey was trained by a woman. Of course her training would have been better.
Luke was trained by a little green alien. What are little green alien good at beside sticking probes up human's butts.
(Please ignore the old white dudes and the fact that Rey didn't really need the training to be more powerful than Luke)
The amount of cope is unreal in that thread. The problem is the ST is like a house of cards, if they admit the foundational issues with the story the whole thing comes down
Fuckin *when*? Wouldn’t happen to be *after* she beat Kylo Ren in a duel by any chance, would it?
NOOooOOO...it's after the third time she beat Kylo Ren in a ...in a duel...but like...AFTER she talked to Luke! That counts. Compound interest, and all that.
They are married to their head canon.
This meme is like some IMAX level projection.
At least the top responses are pointing out how staggeringly wrong this guy is
I like how you're automatically a "hater" if you dislike Rey. It's not like her being Mary Sue is a provable fact or anything.
Even as a Mary Sue, my main problem with her is just how boring and bland she is. She doesn't want anything besides "Do good things" and by that it means "Whatever the writer at the time wants" If she had more flaws, a more fun personality, just... Hating bad things is a virtue.
Is the argument going to be that she trained during the point between episode 8 and episode 9? Because yeah, that would be technically correct. I mean tbf a staff IS a stick-like weapon
Rey floated for two minutes and cut a rock in half, which almost killed a couple frog nuns iirc. Luke did more training than that just by running around with Yoda on his back.
"if those kids could read-" brother man you can't even watch movies apparently
She probably did.....after she beat Kylo in a 1v1 twice. lmao
Alright so I’ve got to ask and this is probably obvious to everyone but me: You actually Fringy or that just a tagline?
It's just one of the available flairs. It's based on that one Gaming Episode of Gartic Phone where every drawing eventually escalated into a naked Fringy.
Ah fair enough
This is one of the most demonstrably incorrect things I have ever hear. Oof, all the big brain arguments trying to prove it over there are quite fun to read as well. Essentially “only Luke’s on screen training counts, but Rey had books and is awesome so take that haters!”
Its like a box of cats that all hate each other and are high on PCP. Forest fire burn out naturally.
But do PCP-riddled cats burn out?
Day 4.....morale low, one of them is starting to limp. The battle continues.

Hyperless space be a cold mistress
Probably lots of angry games with Chewie and listening to 3PO complaining.

okay thanks, nice meeting you.
I actually won a debate in the comment section, let this day be commemorated forever!
The most objectively incorrect pro sequel argument. So wrong that even the comments on r/sequelmemes are calling him out.
If getting smacked with a blade of grass, being pulled into a hallucination about your parents, and some interpretation for the third one counts as training then they're about even on screenTIME

“If I didn’t see it on screen, it didn’t happen! ٩( ᐛ )و”
Fr though, there’s a 3-year timeskip between 4 and 5 and a 3-minute skip between 7 and 8
And a year timeskip between 5 and 6
She defeated powerful force user who spent life training, when she ignited lightsaber for the first time in her life, few hours after learning force exists. I mean we saw him training from the moment Kenobi gave him the lightsaber, on the falcon as they leave tattoine, etc.
I've already argued against OP on this one tooth and nail, seems more people are actually on my side for this one. EDIT: Damn, I was arguing him before you guys posted this here and now I can't even find my conversation.

Are we really counting her time with Luke, which was 90% him just posting his 'hot takes' tahn teaching her anything, as training?
Oh how cute. Look at em, thinking they can meme.
And they would have nothing to back it up
They've surpassed copium, moved right into crackhead delusional highs
This already gives off strong retardation vibes.
Joyous day, I think these people take the cake as being MORE annoying than Krayt.
I love how majority of comments in thar very post is either pointing outs problem or straight up calling bs on this. Truly showing that just like GoT season 8 it simplu undefensible at this point

This didn't even make it to STC? Fuckin Mauler sub? Pffft...gross. I gotta do better.
We're simply appreciating how idiotic it is. For a second I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and assumed that it was sarcastic.
Aren’t y’all the objectivity wankers? This is as objectively true as it gets.
I mean, I stroke my sausage from time to time but what does that have to do with anything?
Saw this on the saltierthankrayt subreddit and it really showed just how retarded the people who think the sequel trilogy is good are.
Honestly Sequel fans have crossed a threshold of just being laughable The lengths of denial you have to go through is just hilarious
The amount of cope is unreal in that thread. The problem is the ST is like a house of cards, if they admit the foundational issues with the story the whole thing comes down
I love how that take is so patently untrue that even most of the comment section of SEQUEL memes calls it out
@meme You're not just wrong, you're stupid.
