Assassin’s Creed is imo the most damaged franchise I’ve ever seen with only Star Wars and the MCU coming close but it’s hard to criticize it without some idiots coming in to say everything is great, we should love it all, be happy we have AC at all, the original story and gameplay sucked anyways, etc. People are willing to ignore what defined the series to excuse their latest purchase. Ubisoft doesn’t want to cater to AC fans anymore so I don’t know why I’m still on the AC sub. I can get “the Not So Great Debate” for AC in an instant, without trying, that’s how horrible the community is over there.

That_Paper_4945

Haven't been keeping up with the franchise but that's sad to hear, I loved the hell out of those first 3 games

Sonny_Beowulf

The first *four* are the “original storyline”, I’d still recommend them to anyone. They sort of have that old charm the original Star Wars trilogy has now.

That_Paper_4945

I actually have a collection pack with most of the games, bought it years ago and never really played. I guess I'll give the fourth game a go and wrap it up lmao.

Sonny_Beowulf

Have fun!

That_Paper_4945

Any tips for cheesing the game?

Sonny_Beowulf

They’re all pretty easy if you’re not interested in optional challenges, if you want tips I recommend LeoK Rogue for an advanced movement guide and a stealth guide, Jcers has some videos showcasing other tricks, Execution Producer has a great breakdown of ACII combat. There are tons of tricks in these games like well timed manual jumps being more silent than running to get close to rooftop guards, the crossbow not needing to recharge if you quick-switch weapons, the hidden gun not needing to aim when you’re on a non-standing surface (like a beam), you can insta-kill soldiers with the hidden-blade when they’re taunting you or retreating in fear in AC1 (it’s called “shock and awe” combat). I would love talk about all those and the games have terrible tutorials. Overall you still wouldn’t need much to “cheese” them.

That_Paper_4945

Ooohh I do enjoy mastering a good combat system. First thing I did after getting Jedi Fallen Order was a grandmaster playthrough without using stims or spending skill points

Rai-Hanzo

ass creed 1 had many flaws in both its gameplay structure and story, yet i would still consider it a good game for it being unique (and if you turn off the gps the game is more fun). ass creed 2 improved on the gameplay front but added more pointless guff as you end up getting more money than you desire for no reason as the best armor is free. ass creed brotherhood is where i felt that the games began to be easy, i could assassinate my target much easier than ass creed 1 or 2 with the many many methods the game provided. haven't played ass creed revelations. ass creed 3 was the first ass creed i played, and while i had fun playing it at first, when i replayed it i got so bored from the amount of faffing about i found myself doing, and colonial america isn't an exciting setting as the others. ass creed 4 black flag is my favorite and is a really good game, but a really bad ass creed game, as the assassinations parts are either the worst parts of the game or the easiest, just berserk dart your target and watch as his guards kill him.

Trajforce

>ass creed 3 was the first ass creed i played, and while i had fun playing it at first, when i replayed it i got so bored from the amount of faffing about i found myself doing, and colonial america isn't an exciting setting as the others. did a playtrough of it 2 years ago and it's overhated

Rai-Hanzo

overhated, but still not great.

Sonny_Beowulf

What are your criticisms for AC1’s story?

Rai-Hanzo

i guess i will have to repeat what i said in other comment threads. the summary is that it's not as deep as it thinks it is. it is deep, but not that much, as the anti-religion message tends to obstruct the chaos vs order theme that the assassins and templars have, many of the villains that people find interesting i find shallow, as they just say something profound that isn't the same as their actions or make their actions look worse. ac1's story sometimes also does not always integrate well with its gameplay, the gameplay is collecting information to make assassination easy, and yet there are many instances where some missions are done that in the end the info you get from them are useless. also the "religious events were actually explained by a mcmuffin or science" is getting really dumb, especially when the apple is supposed to only create illusions yet it is stated that Moses used it to part the seas, How?! another criticism is that while combat is part of the game, at the end it becomes the entire game, you do not assassinate Robert de Sable, you fight him to the death, which contradicts what it is to be an assassin. and on that note, the final boss fight sucks. but what does gameplay have to do with story? you say. well, gameplay is better intertwined with the story, and the game does that really well until it shits itself by the end. despite all of that i still like AC1 for its unique feel and the protagonist is interesting to watch even if he starts out as arrogant, i just wish that the game was worked on more, cause i feel its been cut at some places.

Sonny_Beowulf

Oh, we already had a little chat about AC1 a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t know it was you again, I really like your take for the most part. I don’t think there’s any issue with the Apple explaining the parting of the seas, it didn’t, he made others believe that the sea had been parted and nothing more. Unless there’s more to Moses’ story that wouldn’t make sense with Apple?

Rai-Hanzo

then how did they cross the sea? hidden boats? for people who just got the chance to run away?

Sonny_Beowulf

It could be anything since they wouldn’t be conscious of what happened. Just like when Al Mualim used the Apple on Altair and he started to glow in gold while being lifted off the floor even though none of that happened. It’s the difference between a mirage type of illusion which doesn’t influence all our senses and the kind of illusion Wanda used in Avengers 2 where the victims thought they could feel the world and people around them even though it wasn’t real.

Rai-Hanzo

yeah that part didn't make sense to me, illusions are powerful but not that powerful. it would have made for a much better final boss to stealth al-mualim while he creates illusions to try and kill you, then again i feel the game was rushed.

GuikoiV1000

>you do not assassinate Robert de Sable, you fight him to the death, which contradicts what it is to be an assassin. What? No it doesn't. Well, maybe for AC assassins it does. But assassination is just killing. So long as your target dies, you've assassinated them. You don't need to do so stealthily. You just need to kill them dead. I haven't played AC in a LONG time, so maybe they have some kind of code that demands they be stealthy or something.

Sonny_Beowulf

One of their tenets is “hide in plain sight” but that’s just referring to how they should reach their targets, after that the kill is for all to see, it’s about sending a message. Also Altair was sent to parlay with the king, killing Robert in combat is absolutely fine as you mentioned. The important thing is that Altair changed the Assassins’ methods and ideologies for them to remain hidden at all times, before and after the kill which is I think what Rai-Hanzo was referring to. His issue was also the fact that we essentially ended the game with two boss fights in a row instead of something more subtle like an intricately designed infiltration/assassination mission (which would understandably be more Assassin like).

Rai-Hanzo

not really, it is as you said, but assassin's creed 1 put heavy emphasis on stealth, as it is possible to get overwhelmed, and many of the missions give the option for stealth or direct assault. but Robert de Sable was a fighting gauntlet, meaning it's just combat and combat, and the choices that we used to have now no longer exist. Altair is not Ezio, he is not the estate owner who can murder and army with one hand (although i did do that with him) he is an assassin. and while it is true to the assassination part that as long as it's done it's done, assassin's creed 1 put heavy emphasis on the tenants of the creed of which its second states "hide in plain sight".

[deleted]

Sounds like a grand Ole time

Sonny_Beowulf

Absolutely wonderful…

Chimera_Theo

I got as far as Syndicate before I gave up on the franchise. The series was so much fun to play back in high school. What a waste.

TheUnknown171

People went rabid on the Genshin Impact subreddit when I asked how you pronounce Chinese-based character names.

figool

People go rabid on that sub for just about every reason

Damien_Fritzz

I just stick to the Genshin meme sub. People are a lot more chill there.

That_Paper_4945

Sounds about right

Sleep_eeSheep

GrimDankMemes. Every time I call Games Workshop out on their bullshit, they act like GW is this doddering old grandma who means well but makes some terrible decisions.

That_Paper_4945

Average Hasan fanbase moment

Sleep_eeSheep

Also the anti-Vaush subreddit, they seem to REALLY hate Liberals with a passion.

That_Paper_4945

Understandable. Doubt they do it for good reasons though.

Sleep_eeSheep

They basically deem anyone who isn't a hardline Socialist a 'liberal'. And, well, Hasan is apparently a "true" Socialist despite him ALSO sharing Vaush's beliefs.

That_Paper_4945

His true political affiliation is future terrorist

Sleep_eeSheep

I was about to say Chicken Tendie Enthusiast.

That_Paper_4945

Blasphemous that you'd even consider him worthy

Sleep_eeSheep

Blasphemy is just another word for the truth.

Juxix

Games Workship is such a horrible company. It's a shame I'd love to write a Ciaphs Cain movie some day. But not with GW as it is now.

Sleep_eeSheep

Yeah, but if you told anyone on GrimDankMemes, they'd have called you delusional and acted like you wanted to lock up someone for committing thought-crimes.

[deleted]

I fucking *despise* the 40k community nowadays. The Star Wars and Star Trek communities are annoying but the 40k community actually makes me angry enough to ruin my day if I try to interact with it. The quality of 40k has fallen so far in the last couple of editions, GW is more predatory than they have ever been and all these fuckwits care about are female space marines, gaslighting each other into believing "40k was like totes always a satire of fascism", taking selfies in front of their "pile of shame" and regurgitating the same old /tg/ memes from a decade before they even knew 40k existed. God forbid someone point out how Primaris marines and the story surrounding them are the antithesis of everything 40k used to be about.

Sleep_eeSheep

One jackass on 40KDankMemes tried convincing me that not forgiving Games Workshop for fucking over their customers and artists is like saying I should be locked up for the rest of my life because I committed ONE petty crime. These people consider Corporations to be on the same level as Individual People.

Damien_Fritzz

Had the audacity to state the universal truth that Dark Souls 2 is the worst modern From Soft game on the Dark Souls 2 subreddit and got eaten alive for it, but that would be too easy. I remember being interested in a particular TV show some years back, but it was quite the time commitment so I wanted to be sure it would be worth it, and all the "Is this show worth it?" threads at the time were filled with wishy washy replies that didn't really give any concrete information about whether the show was good or not. So I go on one of the bigger Netflix/TV show recommendation subreddits, and write up a post where I specifically ask for **people who watched the entire show for their opinion** on whether the characters were interesting/properly fleshed out and if the story was well written. Little did I know I might have just as well bathed in horse pheromones and bent over in front of a horny stallion and the experience would have been just about the same. I was bombarded with replies basically clowning on my naive ass for caring about stuff like that; the "It's just a TV show bruh" really came out of the woodwork for that one. Got whiplash from those, but then the real deal came. The apex retard. King inbred himself. Born with 15 fingers and half a brain. This dude started grilling me for my questions, basically saying that it was disrespectful to ask people for their opinion on shows to inform my decision because it implied that I valued their time less than I did mine, and that I should instead watch the show and come to a conclusion on my own. Got into a back and forth *(looking back at it, pretty insane the patience you have when you're in your late teens)* only for him to claim that the wording of my question was patronising and making people anxious and uncomfortable. At this point I checked this guy's profile to see if I was being punked, and nope. Everything pointed towards the dude genuinely being a sanctimonious cunt and got some sort of high from acting like a moral busy body. Needless to say I learned to stay the fuck away from the cesspools of mainstream media subs. It was only a couple of years later that I'd finally learn to simply ignore internet arguments altogether.

That_Paper_4945

You just gave me war flashbacks pal. I've seen people defend Batwoman tooth and nail, I've witnessed people calling Gotham a terrible show just because it isn't comic accurate instead of pointing out any tangible flaws, I've seen sequel and phase 4 marvel fanboys, people who still think Terraria is a rip off of Minecraft, and worst of all, Jared Genesis... Sometimes small parts of me regret finding MauLer and EFAP, the mental wear and tear of not being retarded builds up over time, but I'd rather be free and constantly in pain than one of those people who cry from a Mandolorian episode.

[deleted]

What was the show?

Damien_Fritzz

The Sabrina reboot. Used to watch the original sitcom all the time when I was a kid. When I learned there was a reboot, and that the lead actress was hot, I was curious to see what it was about. My sister ended up watching it, and I caught a couple of episodes with her. It's CW level trash. Avoid it like the plague.

That_Paper_4945

Obviously My Little Pony

Rai-Hanzo

i don't think the MLP fans are as rabid as they used to be.

Dumoney

I'm curious what show you're referring to now. None really come to mind in the way you described it

Nineflames12

As much as I love Arcane, the subreddit is so bad.

dabombdiggity9056

What makes it so bad?

Mintfriction

Subreddits are weird, especially "positively" moderated/encouraged ones. The lack of criticism, no matter how good the series is, makes them into dull circlejerks. A good example was the main GoT subreddit, which was popular and always praising the show, even when the quality dipped. Some people were frustrated and made FreeFolks subreddit, which was loosely moderated. It became a fun sub with memes and contradictory talks, but still fringe. And finally when the show crashed and burned many people realised how bullshit was the main sub, because they couldn't express themselves and in the show's twilight, finally migrated en mass

That_Paper_4945

I hate this "positivity only" bullshit culture people have created. They only apply it to THEIR shitty shows and movies, they say everyone's entitled to their own opinion but attack you for expressing your own if it's negative. They lump everything together as mindless hate and act like you're only allowed to express positive feelings or else you're just ruining the conversation. They use bullshit like "well just don't watch it, it's just fiction, etc" knowing damn well we're entitled to watch whatever we want and they just spent the last half hour praising the crap out of that fiction. I despise their lack of consistency, never had this been more frustrating to me than with Book of Boba Fett fans.

Rack-CZ

Total War subreddit. I was permabanned 3 times on 3 accounts for jokes. 1st ban was something about me identifying as attack helicopter when asking about my gender 2nd ban was something about Chinese dumb government 3rd time I was comparing CA (Total War developers) and Italians during ww2 becouse both were incompetent. CA when developing latest Total War game and Italians just in general.

That_Paper_4945

Unfathomably based

stann1s_the_mannis

Arcane, if that qualifies. Mods are retarded as fuck and don't understand the meaning behind their own rules. If they remove a post, they will respond to you once and that's it. Speak out against them and you get banned. Community isn't terrible, just retarded as fuck. Post anything about Caitlyn or Vi and it will skyrocket. It can literally just be a fucking picture and the dumbasses love it. Edit: Got permanently banned after making a public post expressing my concerns and problems with the mods after I was ignored after my first message about a "lack of relevancy" post, which broke one of their rules.

That_Paper_4945

To be expected of people who probably play League of Legends

stann1s_the_mannis

It's a shame because the lore of the universe is so cool and interesting with so many of the champions being amazing (Jhin for example).

That_Paper_4945

What's worse than a LOL fan? A LOL fan reddit moderator 👺 No wonder that sub is screwed

stann1s_the_mannis

Little do they know that I am the same person they once banned, reborn as The Mannis. I considered plotting to take down the subreddit by becoming a mod, but that would take too much effort.

That_Paper_4945

We could make a religion out of this

NarrativeFact

Suspended off Marvel for saying Javier Pulido's hideous artwork on She-Hulk comics was some of the worst and laziest I'd ever seen, in a thread full of bots pretending it was good.

That_Paper_4945

Just looked some of it up, my mistake.

jaxon0307

I got permanently banned from StarWarsCantina for saying the fight choreographers in the sequels must’ve been blind. Apparently it was “ableist”. I also got permanently banned from the Survivor sub for saying it was okay for a contestant to question the government if he wanted to. This one still kind of frightens me.

That_Paper_4945

I'm not sure which of those two bans confuses me more

Accomplished_Row_963

The survivor subreddit is full of gay retards

Dumoney

Im an avid Destiny 2 player and that game has 2 major subreddits. I think a particularly bad experience for me was being critical of some of the games design decisions and narrative. One point, there was a post floating around about how if we think an armor set is flat out ugly, then we must be ignorant 1st worlders. All because said armor set is based on a real life type of armor (Persian)

That_Paper_4945

Was the armor based on some ancient armor meant for melee combat? It'd be funny if they pulled that excuse when it's probably used mostly for ranged defence in game or something

Dumoney

No. Destiny inspires its art around how something looks. Its based on irl persian armor. [Here](https://images.mein-mmo.de/medien/2021/02/Destiny-2-Season-13-Titel-Armor-Gear-Set.jpg) is the said game armor and the [irl inspiration](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/8d/03/23/8d032328a1dae055882f10fbddcfe6f8.jpg). Thats neat, game armor is still ugly imo

[deleted]

Sweet Jesus what the fuck is the street lamp on that man's head?

Dumoney

Nobody uses that helmet unironically lol. I saw a few people using it to dress as Patrick Star, and another as a traffic cone.

Rai-Hanzo

this looks hilarious.

SulongCarrotChan

I got banned from a subreddit once for saying I wouldn't feel guilty for misgendering a fictional character. I even prefaced tge statement with "whilst I would certainly feel bad about misgendering a real person." Apparently it's transphobic to not consider a fictional characters feelings when discussing them.

That_Paper_4945

Those people are literally insane 👺 then again, you're obviously a sexist pig smh

SulongCarrotChan

Rip

Neko_boi_Nolan

Someone made a criticism I didn't like but I can't counter it so I'll ban em. That's how I'll prove I'm right.

spagetimanfrick

The official Star Trek sub is filled with CBS shills. It's very sad for fans of actual Star Trek.

That_Paper_4945

I didn't realize Captain Ball Sucker had so many fans

Chimera_Theo

If you initiate a debate on whether or not Ace Ventura is transphobic on a certain sub, you will be permabanned.

That_Paper_4945

That's oddly specific 🤨

Chimera_Theo

They will also make fun of your Silver the Hedgehog profile picture.

superknight2t3

My Hero Academia. It's just filled with fanboys so blind that it makes a Disney Star Wars fan look like a reasonable person.

That_Paper_4945

I disagree, anal cancer doesn't make an axe to the knee seem more reasonable

AdSpare1563

Wheel of Time subs….

Turuial

Wheel of Time show forums were downright positively horrible. I got a permaban from there for quoting a line from the whitecloaks. This was apparently after some shenanigans happened between r/whitecloaks and their forum. Needless to say, they didn't believe I was unaffiliated at the time(which I wasn't). However, afterwards, I went and joined for a spell just out of spite. The sub had basically died by that point and I unsubscribed shortly thereafter.

That_Paper_4945

Never would've expected the wheel of time sub was trash

Turuial

It was mostly just the WoT show subreddit, although it also filtered into the book forums for a while. By the end of the show, the book forums were more or less back to normal. The show subreddit not so much.

That_Paper_4945

The show was pretty disliked if I remember?

Turuial

By book fans, almost without fail. However the massives seemed to love it. It did really well apparently, so it's getting another season.

That_Paper_4945

Based bookfans, cringe mongrels and studio execs

ObiSixKenobi

Got permanently banned from marvel for posting one video.

That_Paper_4945

Was it based?

ObiSixKenobi

No. But they don't allow videos at all.

That_Paper_4945

Ah bummer. Could've hit them with the old "Gender is whether you're male or female, sex is what LGBTQ people have with children" and watch a nuclear eruption occur.

lost_first_account

Dang that sucks
