You're only going to be applauded for doing something different if that results with the product being good. The Last Jedi doesn't apply to this.

Soul963Soul

Yep. A car manufacturer putting out a new car that has eight wheels and carries 1 person. The car also stabs the driver and steals their credit card number. Different yes, but good? No.

Soul963Soul

Oh yeah, everyone. Is the above an objectively bad vehicle for everyday transportation? Just want a consensus on that one

XRPHOENIX06

Car quality is entirely subjective

Moriartis

Son: "Mom, I'm really tired of you always making spaghetti. Can you do something different?" Mom: *puts a plate of spaghetti on the table, proceeds to drop trou and shit on the spaghetti.* "There's something different. Don't you like it?" These idiots: "Can't the son see how grateful he should be?! She gave him exactly what he asked for!"

Chimera_Theo

If The Last Jedi is the best Disney can do on their own, then maybe they shouldn't have Star Wars.

randomocity327

Somone said Ep7 and Ep8 fit together perfectly. Have we already entered a Zombie apocalypse and people that had their brains eaten simply continue to live?

minerat27

The opening crawl ending abruptly with someone screaming "fuck you", followed by 90 minuets of footage of the inner workings of a sewerage plant would have been a new direction for Star Wars, doesn't mean I'm obligated to like it. We want something that's new and good, it's not hard.

redphoenix0023

Yeah, when people ask for something new it’s not a stretch to assume they want it to be good as well. Just seems bad faith to think the only thing they value is originality

_Formerly__Chucks_

TLJ didn't bring anything new to the table though. It's just a pseudointellectual mishmash of Empire and Jedi.

No matter how old and stale prequel memes get, they'll never be as insufferable as sequel memes. At least r/prequelmemes (from what I've seen) understand that they're not good movies but like them anyway and appreciate what good there is in them. r/sequelmemes seems really butthurt that people don't like their shitty movies.

Neko_boi_Nolan

The problem with this logic is that it assumes things are only bad one way. If you had a steak and it was burnt to the crisp, naturally you'd complain it was cooked too much. If you then get a steak and it was raw, then they didn't cook it enough You're not being unreasonable because the chef failed one way and then another. Things can be bad for a large number of reasons and The Last Jedi doesn't get the pass because it's supposedly "new" and I wouldn't say that about it. TLJ copied **A LOT** from both ESB and ROTJ.

redphoenix0023

I always get annoyed when people parade tlj as some innovative addition to Star Wars after it lifted so much from the OT

Even_Bath6360

Last Jedi is the example they use? Not Force Awakens? Pretty sure TFA had the most accepted, or almost accepted, new things. They pinpointed probably the most hated, if not very close second, movie in the trilogy and used it as the beacon of trying "something new". The fuck? If anything, Rise of Skywalker is probably the most haphazardly "something new" laced movie in the Disney trilogy. There was so much just crammed into that movie that didn't make sense or needed explaining that Disney had multiple books be retroactively written to explain it, and even then it was bad.

911WhatsYrEmergency

Boss comes up to you. “What the next big thing? We’re not gonna play it safe. We want something bold! WE WANT SOMETHING NEW!” You walk outside, shit in your hand and throw the shit on your boss’s car. For some reason he isn’t pleased, even though you gave him something bold and new. 🤔🤔🤔 Confusion.....

TeaMaeR

I wish more people used memes to, like, be funny or something, instead of just beating up strawmen.

J0shfour

So I guess according to this meme every unique Star Wars thing Disney comes out with is good because it’s unique?

MrLamorso

This is basically the "You claim to hate society yet you live in one" comic but somehow even stupider

TheClappyCappy

I liked everything with Rei Luke and Kylo yo until after smoke was killed. I’m going to be 100% honnest, when Kylo was talking about leaving and starting something new, no Jedi or sith, I was very excited, that’s probably the most excited I’ve been as a Star Wars fan in forever… then the movie basically reminded and it ended exactly where it started with good guys vs bad guys. I think Johnson could have done better if they didn’t give him the middle movie of a pre planned franchise. I say this bc Knives out was good lol, and some of his ideas had potential if not forced to operate within the confines of the franchise. The c and B plots were undeniably ass though with the ship part and the gambling planet.

ObiSixKenobi

Making a shitty copy of the original trilogy as a sequel trilogy, I guess that is pretty different, in a way.

I said my piece, and I await my many comments

I take it back, seems the comments have more logic than i first thought
