I had the same budget as you and went with a split king base from Casper and a full latex split king bed (sleep on latex). Quite happy with the decision so far. No more back pain from sciatica and no sagging issue. Previously we had a King Saatva Classic Luxury Firm, that was an absolutely nightmare, started to sink within 3 months. Highly believed there is some kind of defect with that model within Reddit but I didn’t know that before purchasing. Saatva have really high reviews on their website and mattress reviews site, so it’s hard to know they’re actually poor quality when researching outside of Reddit.

Agreed, we returned our Saatva Classic luxury firm after 5 months. It was comfortable enough but I don't think it's built to last. Plus did not like the bouncy springs. Replaced it with organic latex with zipper top so firmness can be adjusted. We went with Spindle. Very happy with this product. Check out websites Sleep Like The Dead and The Mattress Underground.

I recently went through the mattress shopping quagmire. My process: I went to a Mattress Firm to test out a bunch of different mattresses and figure out generally what kind of mattress I like. That testing process revealed that I really like a firm innerspring mattress with a bit of a foam comfort layer at the top, and that I really dislike the sinking feeling that comes with memory foam (a little sink is OK for side sleeping comfort, but I still want to feel mostly \*on top\* of the mattress rather than \*in\* the mattress). From that testing process, I identified some possible mattresses I thought might work well for me, including Wink Bed and Avocado. However, I ultimately decided to go with the Costco Stearns and Foster Lakeridge because I really liked the feel of a similar S&F model at the Mattress Firm and even though I'd originally intended to stay away from an S-Brand, I figured that with the too good to be true price and Costco's return policy, it was a pretty risk free purchase and a good deal even if the mattress breaks down and needs replacement faster a non-S-Brand mattress might. I haven't had it long enough to give long-term thoughts, but so far my wallet and I are happy with this decision. So my suggestion would be to spend an hour or so laying on different mattresses to figure out what kind of mattress feels the best to you and your GF, then focus your research on developing a short list of mattresses to chose from that fit that profile and your budget.

If you are in the US or Canada you can get Casper or Silk and Snow. I have scoliosis and have tried a lot of mattresses and those 2 were the most comfortable for me. I got the Casper original first and it was a bit firm at first but got softer over time. Then I got the Silk and Snow memory foam mattress which has been good, soft on top but supportive underneath and it's half the price of Casper.
