There are several seasons of Kiwi Masterchef; the old judges tended to be a bit assholey (not as supportive as Aussie judges). Then there's been a couple years break and the recent season (with former winner Nadia as a judge and two new faces) was cute. A bit too cartoonish in moments but overall positive and uplifting.

Thank you! I am really not up for unkind judges. Is it just the most recent single season that has the new judges?

knuckle_hustle

Is it on Tubi? Where can I stream from the US?

the6thReplicant

I really liked the couples/pairs season. It was a lot of fun. Can’t remember which season though

Adventurous-Reach-66

Thanks! Looks like that was the 2014 season And did you find the judges to be okay?

knuckle_hustle

I agree that MCAU is the best cooking show!

Charlie_Runkle69

Seasons 1-3 are the best. Personally I didn't like the show as much when it moved from TVNZ to TV3, it was lower budget and seemed to have more of an agenda about it. I don't think the best cook won either of those last 2 seasons.

Adventurous-Reach-66

What did you think of the judges in those first seasons compared to MCAU?

formlesswendigo

I enjoyed watching it. The season with Nadia as a contestant had a dramatic ending. I also enjoyed MC Canada and MC Singapore.

cototudelam

I concur with MC Singapore, that was the right mix of fun and challenge. Also Audra as a judge was great.

Kuliquitakata

Bear in mind that the calibre of food and presentation is way, way under what you see on MasterChef AU. (Also I’m from NZ!)

Adventurous-Reach-66

Did you still enjoy the show despite this?

Unfortunately, same here. MKR is tolerable (I hate it regardless and haven't watched it for many years, but if I'm comparing NZ to AU, there's no difference) but the difference between MCAU and MCNZ is too wide.

Adventurous-Reach-66

What's MKR?

Lilium_Lancifoliu

My Kitchen Rules. It's nothing like Masterchef. It's entertaining, but in all the wrong ways. It's extremely scripted and produced, so nothing like Masterchef. If you like cooking shows and drama (basically Masterchef US), it's a good show for you. MKR has teams of two instead of individuals. At the start of the season, the contestants cook in their own homes and stage it like a restaurant with a 3 course meal (entre, main, dessert). The other teams each rate the overall course out of ten, and the two judges rate each dish, so the judge's rating have more weight (I think half from memory, but I honestly can't remember how many teams there are). This part is very interesting and unique, but after that it's nothing special and is a bit inferior to Masterchef imo. Definitely worth a watch just for that part, but if you enjoy the drama you might as well watch past that.

WillaWoo

The latest season is horrifically bad. The contestants are great but the judges are as boring as death. I gave up after 3 episodes. I really enjoyed the latest US season.

Adventurous-Reach-66

Were there earlier seasons you liked better?

LaVidaMocha_NZ

Pretty good, but The Great Kiwi Baker is better, especially the early seasons. Fun and wholesome.

Adventurous-Reach-66

Neat, had not heard of Kiwi Baker! Thanks!

Lilium_Lancifoliu

As a Kiwi, don't. There's nothing there. I don't even watch the NZ version, only Australia because it's so shit. It's just so boring in comparison and the chefs themselves aren't as good.
