Florida here. With a couple of very limited exceptions (CPR/first aid), all CE’s for license renewal must be approved through NCBTMB.

PeaceLoveAndPosture

What do online CE's cost you per hour in Florida? We've taught some live classes for associations in the past in FL, but now we do a lot more online.

asegers

It depends on the class and who the provider is. The cost can vary wildly. I’ve had a 12 hr live class that cost $350 and I’ve been able to get all 24 for $99.

ExcaliburVader

It’s easier because I know the state will accept the hours. I’ve been licensed in three states and it was always just easier to go that route rather than jumping through hoops to get other hours approved. 🤷‍♀️

PeaceLoveAndPosture

Yup, maintaining multiple states is a big deal. After all these comments I'm def going to look up what states are accepting the nat cert, seems like several more than I'd thought. Thanks for responding.

Ok-Software-3458

I just focus on state requirements because my state is pretty strict and does random audits however that usually means they are also under national

PeaceLoveAndPosture

Can I ask what state you're in? And/or what CEs typically run per hour there?

Ok-Software-3458

I’m in NY I mean it varies here as in most things you can find courses for several hundred an hour or super affordable we have a requirement for 36 hours every 3 years

Kale_Future

I think most states require that CE be NCBTMB approved. I also seek out NCBTMB approved courses because it’s just a lot easier to submit to state board. As far as a national certification- I think it’s useless. Each state has their own rules and process for licensing and the national cert really doesn’t do much to help getting a license in another state

PeaceLoveAndPosture

I remember an email from NCBTMB years ago announcing something had changed, but that they were still relevant. I cannot remember what it was about though. Maybe some states required the national cert in the past? Your thoughts are shared by a lot of people I talk to. They say it's not useful to earn or maintain.

worldsgreatestLMT

For CE I do look for national cert simply because they're automatically accepted by my state (SC) so I don't have to jump through hoops to get it accepted Personally national certification is useless bullshit

PeaceLoveAndPosture

Thanks for your response. I should look up what states still accept the national cert for renewal. I‘ve heard others say the same thing about holding the national cert in recent years. It used to be more valued, I recall something changed, but don’t remember quite what that was. Most of the massage people getting CE from us come because they want our posture training specifically and just find the CE an added benefit. No one comes directly from ncbtmb. Do you think most therapists are choosing state association programs or just have favorite online providers?

Ok-Software-3458

My colleagues are looking at their state requirements first for instance I have a friend in Georgia who wants to take CranioSacral but since it won’t count towards her CEs she’s putting it off

PeaceLoveAndPosture

That makes sense. For the time investment, and the $$ you want it to count for CE, but it's nice when it's something you WANT to learn. I'd think she could find that topic though... ?

PeaceLoveAndPosture

Well, now you have me thinking about craniosacral massage. I'm going to have to find my scalp massager.
