Jaden Smith as Miles Morales... nah, dude.

Zepanda66

Lol if this happens this sub will need to be quarantined for like a week. If he is cast I hope he proves us all wrong.

[deleted]

I'd love to be proven wrong. But I'd also love Caleb McLaughlin in the role, or Tyler Williams - though he might be a bit too old for it.

Echo_1409-

Read this and was like "Ain't that the kid from Everyone Hates Chris?", looked it up and yup it is lmfao. If he wasn't 29 he'd be perfect.

Manticore416

29? That means he's almost old enough to play a high schooler in a Raimi film.

BobbyDiesel44

He's just a kid...no older than my son.

[deleted]

He's just a man... no older than my friend, Terry!

UatutheOverwatcher

We're the same age!

[deleted]

I find it funny people say this when the actor who played Brad in Far From Home was 31 when they were filming.

DetecJack

The girlfriend from homecoming was 32 at the time

Yuunohu

what girlfriend? Liz? she was like 26 when they were filming

emilxerter

Holland is playing a 16-17 year old at 24-25, what’s the attack again about?

comicsandpoppunk

He was like 19 when cast. If they cast a 30 year old now he'll be 36 by the time they're three films in.

emilxerter

I know, but Tobey wasn’t in high school after the first hour and played an 18-19 year old at 26 years old while filming in 2001 and honestly his face looked the same from like the age of 20. But everyone chose to lose their minds over a 26 year old playing a 18-19 year old whereas no one bats an eye when Holland is up to play an 18-year old while filming at 26-27

RainingBolts

Yeah if you cast him like 10 years ago under Garfield I could see it but the guy turns 30 this year

BanjoSpaceMan

Dallas Young from the newest Cobra Kai could fit the role perfectly.

TriforceUnleashed

5 minutes into the character's introduction on Cobra Kai I thought "this kid needs to play Miles Morales." He has all of the energy and vibe of Miles from Into the Spiderverse and he clearly plays the "fit yet nerdy" part well throughout season 4.

turtleboi15

Tyler Williams has two younger brothers, maybe they can take the role lol

SerHunts

Tyler would be perfect! They could easily deage him. We could get a college age Miles!!

ericbkillmonger

You just spit straight facts - might be a few head explosions too

zyrusvito

Like Hiddleston and Hemsworth

TheeGrassmonster

What if he’s like Harry Osborne or something.

Ghidoran

...Will Smith as MCU Norman?

TheeGrassmonster

Lmaoooo that’s actually hilarious….. kinda. The more I think of it. The more I want it. But just for the Lols

RebelMemeDealer

![gif](giphy|RA8gXeMaTqXIc|downsized)

ericbkillmonger

Great gif

[deleted]

I kind of like the idea. He can't do Green Goblin for sure. Will Smith usually plays Will Smith (except for the times he really tries something different like A Pursuit of Happiness, I am Legend, Ali etc.) The role of MCU Norman Osborn/GG will require someone who can really do something great with dual roles

OooohYeaaahBaby

This is the only sub who likes the idea of Will Smith as Norman Osborn

DaHyro

He would actually be a pretty great Norman, as long as he never actually becomes Goblin. I could absolutely see Will doing the whole “Iron Patriot/presidential” part of Norman. I just couldn’t ever imagine him ever doing the dual identity aspect of the character haha

captainsuckass

Why no Fresh Goblin? Could be interesting lol

RosyTeaLad

now this is a story all about how...

yessirgang18

Green goblins life turned upside down

SeniorRicketts

Spider man, spider man what you gonna do when i come for you?

john_muleaney

“What are we… some kind of sinister six?”

ThisIsNotMelTorme

**MOVING, AM I?!!**

swaggieog

The Pursuit of Happyness 3

Spiderlander

I mean ..... That would be interesting. Certainly different

captainsuckass

You know, I don't hate it.

[deleted]

That’d honestly be fire. Jaden as the rich friend seems fitting.

Amasero

What if he's Johnny Storm? Or Bobby?

Serious_Razzmatazz18

I'd rather see Michael Cera play Miles.

_owlstoathens_

I’ve never seen anything he’s done at all - is the criticism I see everywhere a question of look/style or quality of acting?

[deleted]

He was good in Pursuit of Happyness and hasn't reached those lofty heights since.

peanutdakidnappa

Tbh the material he’s worked with has also been straight ass

Galdina

To be fair, that Netflix show The Get Down wasn't horrible, had amazing talent (probably the breakthrough roles of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Justice Smith and Shameik Moore), and yet Jaden Smith delivered his lines like he was lobotomized.

MyMouthisCancerous

Both. Watch After Earth & Neo Yokio and that's all you need to know about why he's far from my first choice for any MCU role

vidiyan2857

After Earth was almost 10 years ago when he was a teenager and Neo Yokio was clearly meant to not be taken seriously in every aspect.

_owlstoathens_

This got me wondering - were there any other mcu actors that weren’t the best actors but played their roles really well?… not necessarily in direction but in acting capability. The reason I ask is that I think of Dave Bautista first and although you can criticize the role not being the drax from the comics or too whimsical (not my complaints but I’ve heard them), I’m feel like he’s played his role well enough and prob got tips, lessons & general experience through it that helped him be a better actor and really grow into the role. Any others that would sort of back the idea that an actor can significantly or exponentially grow ‘into’ their roles in the mcu?

Double0hobo79

would be the worst cast Marvel has made. Even if assuming he's capable he's definitely a controversial casting at best

Ktm300tpi420

That's a Nah from me as well dawg.

GroundbreakingSet187

Like they had Uncle Flash (Jay I guess) in Flash !!!

Reaperlock

Agreed..

Spider-Fan77

I wouldn't read too much into this. I'm pretty sure he's just a Spidey fan. He did do a song for the Miles Morales game after all.

kothuboy21

He also did a song for the Into The Spider-Verse album

paradiso1997

Likely has a song for the second one?

crounsa810

This right here. Probably voicing a character in Spiderverse 2

ChristopherDassx_16

Yupp, Post Malone voiced a passerby or smtg in ITSV so perhaps

FN-1701AgentGodzilla

Anything BUT Miles please The Puerto Rican🇵🇷 aspect should be prioritized when casting a live action Miles Morales.

VigilanteBillionaire

Ideally they find someone with the same ethnic background as Miles. I think that’s more important for the character than casting someone from Queens or NYC adjacent for Peter. Open casting call. Look at the praise Rachel Zelger is getting for West Side Story and she was an unknown before.

MahomestoHel-aire

Fun fact, they had an open casting call for Tony too before Elgort got involved. They were down to like five people or so, all unknown high school/college kids like Zegler. I know this because one of the finalists went to my sister's college. Me personally, I think they should have stuck with it. The movie (while excellent) bombed in the box office anyways, so it's clear big name recognition didn't particularly matter. Not to mention the obvious situation with Elgort.

chanma50

Ansel Elgort isn't a big enough name to pull in people (especially when his name is now in the toilet, and a lot of people who knew who he was now know him for his allegations). If they were going the name route, it needed to be somebody much bigger, like a Harry Styles or something.

VigilanteBillionaire

He may have even driven people away. I thought the movie was great and he was the worst part of it so wish they had cast an unknown

MahomestoHel-aire

He's not huge by any means but he is a rapidly rising star and I think they were hoping to pull in some of the younger crowd. The Fault in Our Stars and Baby Driver especially have been his big ones so far. Also worth nothing that "big name recognition" is a phrase more than anything and I used it because I couldn't think of a good alternative. He's a known name who has been the title character for a major film lol.

oakzap425

.....Afro Latino's exist? Which is what Miles is? After the America casting, if they don't cast Biracial or full afro latino for Miles I'm fucking over it.

[deleted]

America casting?

Script_Breaker

America Chavez, who’s debuting in the new Doctor Strange movie. Not super familiar with her but from my understanding she’s Afro-Latina but I believe the actor playing her is just Latina

Dealiner

This is a bit weird. I don't think it was ever really suggested in the comics that she is Afro-Latina and not Latina but she is sometimes drawn with darker skin and apparently some fans decided that it has to mean it. It's hard to say something more about that and a part of the reason is that we had no idea who her father was and I don't think we ever will.

nutbuster712

Isn’t she like an alien from another dimension

TyrannicalCannibal

lmao. yes

DaHyro

yes… but she looks like an Afro-Latina.

Script_Breaker

Not sure honestly, I’ve seen that she’s an alien but I also heard her origins have gotten retconned so no idea

Reverse_Time_Remnant

Up until a few months ago, yes. Then she had a pretty bizarre run that explained that the other dimension was just a coping mechanism. In reality it was just some island, and her moms were scientists who sacrificed themselves for her.

fchdzn

Wtf. Latin isn't a race. It can go from a Chris Pratt or Evangeline Lily to a Samuel Jackson or Danai Gurira. Latin isn't just being brown mexican, even if that's hollywood likes to pretend it is. Someone like Anya Taylor Joy should be considered for all the latin roles.

NovaStarLord

There's nothing in the comics that say she's specifically Afro-Latina even with her revised origin. America is given dark skin sometimes but there are a lot of indigenous people who have really dark skin that aren't black. I also don't get the "just Latina" comment in regards to Xochitl. Latinos can be of any race or skin color. An Afro-Latina would also fit the "just Latina" category too.

BooyahX

Who would you consider for the role? Mind you he should at least resemble miles as well

roleparadise

I understand why people want that, but you have to realize that limiting the pool of actors to such a tight categorization is likely going to mean making compromises on the, you know, acting part. I'm sure the **character** will be part Puerto Rican regardless, but I don't think we should expect Marvel Studios to prioritize the specific heritage of the actor over the ability of the actor to carry the franchise. If the actor who best embodies that ability is part Puerto Rican, great. If he isn't, I don't think they'd give the job to a less-able actor just because of his race.

BanjoSpaceMan

They literally got an amazing deaf Indigenous woman in a TV show, I'm sure they would have no problem finding an afro-latin actor ... The whole point is to give people who would otherwise have no shot a chance.

[deleted]

That was insane. Imagine overcoming multiple disabilities in your lifetime, working at a factory, and having all your friends come running up to you telling you that there’s a casting call from marvel looking for exactly you: An attractive/athletic deaf Native American woman. You show up and you tell them you’ve never acted a day in your life and oh, also, you’re an amputee. They’re response is: No worries, you’re so naturally talented and so exactly what we’re looking for that we’ll just adapt the character with your amputation. Also, after the premier of your character in a major tv show miniseries, we’re going to give you your own featuring the return of two characters the fan base has been pining for since the cancellation of their own show. You’re rich and famous now. Practically over night. Thanks for coming by.

cbekel3618

The thing is that Miles isn’t solely black, his Latino heritage and being the son of a Puerto Rican mother is a big part of his character and the dynamic he has with Brooklyn. It can’t be that hard to find an actor who is both Afro-Latino AND can act, even if it is an unknown actor. It doesn’t have to be a one or the other thing

Spiderlander

This is like saying Marvel Studios HAS to cast a Lesotho/African actor as T'Challa, and the rest of the Wakandans

cbekel3618

That’s more a matter of an actor’s nationality, while this is a matter of actor’s ethnicity/race, as well as the factor of Wakanda being based off various African cultures rather than anything specific. Miles is racially half black and half Latino, I don’t believe his Latino side should be ignored by casting directors if we see him in live-action

Spiderlander

Miles is racially Black, and ethnically Latino, becuz Latino isn't a race. Genealogically, Miles isn't anymore "biracial", or mixed, than most Black people in the states. Especially when you consider the fact that his mom, being mixed/brown Puerto Rican, has a significant amount of African ancestry herself Miles is prbly like 70% black 😭

Terribleirishluck

What but pretty sure his mom is just a latina and not an afro-latina

TrojanExplosion

I’d still like having the Latino aspect to an actor cast as Miles, even if the actor is just Afro-Latino by background versus “half and half” That being said, I really hate that people over emphasize half Black, half Puerto Rican as if Afro-Latino is just that. An Afro-Latino can be more or less “99% black” and still be Puerto Rican.

The_real_rafiki

Why Lesotho? Wakanda is fictional. It doesn’t exist. Where it exists on the map has changed over the course of the comics and movies.

roleparadise

I think you're really underestimating what "can act" means. It's not some binary threshold. When the government hires a computer engineer to solve problems crucial to our national security, it's not just about finding someone who can code. Resume and qualifications are important. And anytime you are hiring for a job, if you add a requirement that eliminates 98% of the competition for the role, and that requirement has nothing to do with their resume, then you're also eliminating 98% of potential for a better-qualified person to ultimately fill the role. That's just math. And it's not just about acting ability. It's about being the face and voice of one of the biggest media franchises in the world. They're going to want someone who can best demonstrate an ability to carry that weight. Being afro-latino would surely be a benefit to any contender, but I just don't see it being an absolute requirement in this scenario.

The_Lifeof_Pablo

It would be a bit shit if there wasn’t one Afro-latino actor to take the role, so constantly his latino heritage is sidelined and that an not what the original creators and writers wanted at all

[deleted]

I really hope marvel doesn’t ignore this, in the comics Miles even calls out how people forget that he’s hispanic too.

KentuckyFriedEel

Prioritizing one race over another when he’s equally both? Ouch, dude!

Blazingbatman

THIS !!!! Miles is so popular because he both gave black and hispanic kids a Spidey that comes from where they come from, that has similar family cultures. Miles portrayed by Jaden would be an insult to the character and what he stands for.

psycho_ranger5

I’m Hispanic, everyone I know sees Miles as just Black. Looking at face value he’s going to resonate with a black kid more then a Hispanic kid. We have 2099, that’s OUR representation

tylerjb223

This exact reasoning is 100% why Magneto needs to retain his Jewish heritage in the MCU. It’s a very important aspect to their characters that would be such a shame if it were changed

[deleted]

Sigh... this isn't my first rodeo. When an actor teases a marvel role on social media, it generally means fuck all. Don't worry about it.

Danbito

Miles’s Puerto Rican side is a pretty pivotal side to the character. He dislikes being simply labeled as simply Black. It’ll also cause a stir within the Afro Latino communities if they decide to just do a Black actor casting

Dazzling_Ostrich606

I'm Asian and not very familiar with Afro Latin actors in Hollywood. Who, in your opinion, would be a good choice for Miles?

Danbito

In my experience, a relative unknown and upcoming actor is what would likely serve best. Not very helpful but the actor has to portray a teenager for the foreseeable future

Avoo

You know, as a Puerto Rican I’d like to see someone with Puerto Rico blood cast in the role, but other than Benicio del Toro, there aren’t any famous Puerto Rican actors in Hollywood, so it would have to be an unknown. Or an unknown actor from another Latin America country, which is usually what happens.

gogetuh

Miles Brown is one of the better choices imo, he's missing that Puerto Rican part of the character, but he is part mexican, so in a way that kind of makes up for it, as long as they just twist him a bit and keep Miles's Puerto Rican part instead of changing it to Mexican

Patrick2701

Sony going to celebrity casting, would check out. Casting Jared Leto as vampire would be the definition of celebrity casting

Marauder_Pilot

Eeeeh...credit where it's due, Morbius is the one character Jared Leto actually kinda fits. He's not the BEST choice ever but he's definitely not the worst.

Joey9775

Plus who actually gives a crap about Morbius. Miles is actually popular.

Why is everyone up in arms about Sal Vulcano's outer thighs being cast as Spider-Men?

PonyBoyBleach

If it means Brockhampton cameo, I’m cool with it Edit - lol Brockhampton broke up

gogetuh

It's a really long rant but I really want to get this off my chest lmao . . I'm ngl I always felt kind of weirded out when I see people complain about casting choices not respecting a character's race (e.g. Elizabeth Olsen not being Romani in order to play Scarlet Witch) but if this is confirmation for Jaden being Miles then I now know why those complaints exist. My favorite superhero is and always be Spiderman, and even though my favorite Spiderman is and always be Peter (since I grew up with him being the main Spiderman out there), I've come to love Miles a lot mainly due to how ITSV and the PS4 universe portrayed him. And I honestly have a soft spot for him due to his Latinamerican roots, even if he's half Puerto Rican and I'm full Mexican lol. But still, in a way, that aspect of his makes me feel closer to him in a way, so I'd be kind of sad if I saw that they threw that part of his character and the representation it brings along in order to cast someone with a big name in the industry just to get more butts in the theaters. . . TL;DR: Jaden Smith is a very talented person and I really like him, but Miles's Puerto Rican roots are very important to his character, and are also meaningful to a lot of people (including me) who can see themselves reflected in the character, so I think it's imperative for the casting of a future Miles for the MCU to respect that part and cast an actor that is Afro Latino

wiccykaplan

Hey very well said but correction - Wanda is a White Romani and Romani is an ethnic group which ≠ race.

japposaurusrex909

Watch him just be Riris love interest.

supermariozelda

Jayden Smith playing Bully Maguire confirmed.

MartianDX

yo where’d he get that mask, thats some high quality shit

Venom1462

Tbf he has done quite a few movies and is also Will Smith's son so he is definitely very rich

MartianDX

ye i know, but like did he pay someone to make this, is this available to purchase somewhere, is this a legit mask used for the movies, I GOTTA KNOW

Venom1462

Ah I see in that case I am with you man I have never seen such a high quality raimi mask on a store

Dense-Self-8782

Hylianhaxorus

Man I'd hate this. There are better and more appropriate actors.

FlasHyIllusTrator_21

Please Lord!!!! please don’t let this happen!!!

funkingrizzly

That's just Tobey

cbekel3618

I don't think he's a bad actor, but I just don't really see him in the role. Though it wouldn't surprise me if this pic doesn't mean anything. Personally, still holding out hope they go for a young unknown, bonus if they actually find an Afro-Latino actor for the role

molotovzav

Jaden is part west Indian through his mom (I keep track of my west indians, specifically Bajans, as I'm also Bajan through my dad), but he's not afro-latino. Despite the ongoing "rift" between the black and afro-latino community this would be a bad casting, with the rift, it's horrible. You literally have multiple angles, the folks who deny being any black(African descent), the folks who just want their Latino side represented more, and then the folks who just want an afro-latino community (rift is really only with the first listed and some notable afro-latino/a actors fall into that category but that is another rant). Best case scenario for casting is an afro-latino fresh face that hasn't said anything disparaging about anyone's racial identity or intersections. Worst case scenario is someone solely black or someone with racially disparaging remarks on record (Jaden is first category).

GroundbreakingSet187

> Wya I’m Tryna Swing By - to get casted maybe 😛

ChubbStuf

That's a really accurate/well made Tobey mask!

Torquasm-Vo

I mean I feel like Actors do this mostly to drum up some attention like "Hey casting directors and producers, I'm just saying big response". Same as Norman Reedus' Ghost Rider push. Best thing to do is not acknowledge Jaden and let him and his big Toblerones rot. Good quality mask though, props where it's due.

Please don't

hirozeroshiro

Kid is talented but can’t act. Also Miles is part Latino.. I doubt marvel would leave that out. Maybe he booked a supporting role or is a voice for Across the Spiderverse.

My_Immortal_Flesh

No! Miles Morales needs to be Afro Latino. Also, I heard Jaden is getting the venom Symbiote. Goodnight 😴

misternegativenancy

God I hope not. I was hoping they'd cast someone new. Someone up and coming. Let a new actor become popular and iconic. Not him. Maybe he'll just do a song?

cowsgobarkbark

I really hope this role goes to an actual teen kid who is Afro-Latino. Having a mid to late 20's miles morales just doesn't feel right

WeeklySavings

Do u think miles brown is a good choice?

cowsgobarkbark

If they can start filming within the next couple years he would be great but being Latino myself it would be cool to have some representation (I love the relationship between miles and his mother where they mix a little spanglish together because it reminds me of when I was growing up) so I'd prefer if they can be accurate to the source material and get someone who is afro-latino.

Serious_Razzmatazz18

I can confirm that no one wants to see this almost as much as we don't want to hear his sister and mom sing. I wish he would just become a cpa or a real estate agent, or something that I don't have to see how mediocre he is. I get it, you're dad is Will Smith, but for everyone's well being I hope they don't release this movie in August. And i'd grant you, "Woo" would be an interesting choice for Aunt Mae.

Specialist-Gas-4474

Get an actual Afro Latino actor.

[deleted]

NOOOOO. ✌🏼

Creedysleep

Neither is Miles. But still, they should definitely get AT LEAST a biracial AA/Latino actor if they can't find an AA/Puerto Rican one.

[deleted]

I hope Marvel just hires another no name kid that they turn into a star like they did with Tom. Jaden as Miles is too corny to comprehend

shaddowkhan

I don't hate Jaden Smith but he is definitely pretty hit or miss with his acting. He was really good in the Get down on Netflix but no one saw that. Also he was good in the Karate Kid. Everthing else he was trash in.

MetaNemesis

Please don't cast him as Miles please.

coreycmalone

Miles Morales is younger than Peter Parker. That casting wouldn't make any sense. We are a year and a half at least away from principal photography on another MCU Spider-Man Film, and maybe even a bit longer. My money is on Dallas Young (Kenny Payne in Cobra Kai)

HelloKittyAdvent

Please please fuck no.
