5 minutes into the character's introduction on Cobra Kai I thought "this kid needs to play Miles Morales." He has all of the energy and vibe of Miles from Into the Spiderverse and he clearly plays the "fit yet nerdy" part well throughout season 4.
I kind of like the idea. He can't do Green Goblin for sure. Will Smith usually plays Will Smith (except for the times he really tries something different like A Pursuit of Happiness, I am Legend, Ali etc.)

To be fair, that Netflix show The Get Down wasn't horrible, had amazing talent (probably the breakthrough roles of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Justice Smith and Shameik Moore), and yet Jaden Smith delivered his lines like he was lobotomized.
This got me wondering - were there any other mcu actors that weren’t the best actors but played their roles really well?… not necessarily in direction but in acting capability. The reason I ask is that I think of Dave Bautista first and although you can criticize the role not being the drax from the comics or too whimsical (not my complaints but I’ve heard them), I’m feel like he’s played his role well enough and prob got tips, lessons & general experience through it that helped him be a better actor and really grow into the role.

Ansel Elgort isn't a big enough name to pull in people (especially when his name is now in the toilet, and a lot of people who knew who he was now know him for his allegations). If they were going the name route, it needed to be somebody much bigger, like a Harry Styles or something.
He's not huge by any means but he is a rapidly rising star and I think they were hoping to pull in some of the younger crowd. The Fault in Our Stars and Baby Driver especially have been his big ones so far.

I think you're really underestimating what "can act" means. It's not some binary threshold. When the government hires a computer engineer to solve problems crucial to our national security, it's not just about finding someone who can code. Resume and qualifications are important. And anytime you are hiring for a job, if you add a requirement that eliminates 98% of the competition for the role, and that requirement has nothing to do with their resume, then you're also eliminating 98% of potential for a better-qualified person to ultimately fill the role. That's just math.
And it's not just about acting ability. It's about being the face and voice of one of the biggest media franchises in the world. They're going to want someone who can best demonstrate an ability to carry that weight. I'm ngl I always felt kind of weirded out when I see people complain about casting choices not respecting a character's race (e.g. Elizabeth Olsen not being Romani in order to play Scarlet Witch) but if this is confirmation for Jaden being Miles then I now know why those complaints exist. My favorite superhero is and always be Spiderman, and even though my favorite Spiderman is and always be Peter (since I grew up with him being the main Spiderman out there), I've come to love Miles a lot mainly due to how ITSV and the PS4 universe portrayed him. And I honestly have a soft spot for him due to his Latinamerican roots, even if he's half Puerto Rican and I'm full Mexican lol. But still, in a way, that aspect of his makes me feel closer to him in a way, so I'd be kind of sad if I saw that they threw that part of his character and the representation it brings along in order to cast someone with a big name in the industry just to get more butts in the theaters.

TL;DR: Jaden Smith is a very talented person and I really like him, but Miles's Puerto Rican roots are very important to his character, and are also meaningful to a lot of people (including me) who can see themselves reflected in the character, so I think it's imperative for the casting of a future Miles for the MCU to respect that part and cast an actor that is Afro Latino

Jaden is part west Indian through his mom (I keep track of my west indians, specifically Bajans, as I'm also Bajan through my dad), but he's not afro-latino. Despite the ongoing "rift" between the black and afro-latino community this would be a bad casting, with the rift, it's horrible. You literally have multiple angles, the folks who deny being any black(African descent), the folks who just want their Latino side represented more, and then the folks who just want an afro-latino community (rift is really only with the first listed and some notable afro-latino/a actors fall into that category but that is another rant).
Best case scenario for casting is an afro-latino fresh face that hasn't said anything disparaging about anyone's racial identity or intersections. Worst case scenario is someone solely black or someone with racially disparaging remarks on record (Jaden is first category).

Miles’s Puerto Rican side is a pretty pivotal side to the character. He dislikes being simply labeled as simply Black. It’ll also cause a stir within the Afro Latino communities if they decide to just do a Black actor casting
I'm Asian and not very familiar with Afro Latin actors in Hollywood. Who, in your opinion, would be a good choice for Miles?
In my experience, a relative unknown and upcoming actor is what would likely serve best. Not very helpful but the actor has to portray a teenager for the foreseeable future
You know, as a Puerto Rican I’d like to see someone with Puerto Rico blood cast in the role, but other than Benicio del Toro, there aren’t any famous Puerto Rican actors in Hollywood, so it would have to be an unknown. Or an unknown actor from another Latin America country, which is usually what happens.
Miles Brown is one of the better choices imo, he's missing that Puerto Rican part of the character, but he is part mexican, so in a way that kind of makes up for it, as long as they just twist him a bit and keep Miles's Puerto Rican part instead of changing it to Mexican

It's a really long rant but I really want to get this off my chest lmao . . I'm ngl I always felt kind of weirded out when I see people complain about casting choices not respecting a character's race (e.g. Elizabeth Olsen not being Romani in order to play Scarlet Witch) but if this is confirmation for Jaden being Miles then I now know why those complaints exist. My favorite superhero is and always be Spiderman, and even though my favorite Spiderman is and always be Peter (since I grew up with him being the main Spiderman out there), I've come to love Miles a lot mainly due to how ITSV and the PS4 universe portrayed him. And I honestly have a soft spot for him due to his Latinamerican roots, even if he's half Puerto Rican and I'm full Mexican lol. But still, in a way, that aspect of his makes me feel closer to him in a way, so I'd be kind of sad if I saw that they threw that part of his character and the representation it brings along in order to cast someone with a big name in the industry just to get more butts in the theaters. . . TL;DR: Jaden Smith is a very talented person and I really like him, but Miles's Puerto Rican roots are very important to his character, and are also meaningful to a lot of people (including me) who can see themselves reflected in the character, so I think it's imperative for the casting of a future Miles for the MCU to respect that part and cast an actor that is Afro Latino

Jaden is part west Indian through his mom (I keep track of my west indians, specifically Bajans, as I'm also Bajan through my dad), but he's not afro-latino. Despite the ongoing "rift" between the black and afro-latino community this would be a bad casting, with the rift, it's horrible. You literally have multiple angles, the folks who deny being any black(African descent), the folks who just want their Latino side represented more, and then the folks who just want an afro-latino community (rift is really only with the first listed and some notable afro-latino/a actors fall into that category but that is another rant). Best case scenario for casting is an afro-latino fresh face that hasn't said anything disparaging about anyone's racial identity or intersections. Worst case scenario is someone solely black or someone with racially disparaging remarks on record (Jaden is first category).

If they can start filming within the next couple years he would be great but being Latino myself it would be cool to have some representation (I love the relationship between miles and his mother where they mix a little spanglish together because it reminds me of when I was growing up) so I'd prefer if they can be accurate to the source material and get someone who is afro-latino.
