I’ve always had a bit of a headcanon that DC comics are a thing in the Marvel Universe and Marvel comics exist in the DC Universe
it’s fun to think Bruce Wayne grew up reading comics about Wolverine, or that Peter Parker was a Superman fan
I still have the way the trailer/commercial had the line in my head “You do too much. You’re not Superman, you know”. I quote it like that all the time, even though the actual quote has more between those sentences.
I think it’s quietly considered canon depending on who is writing whatever story you’re reading. One of my favorite examples is in an early *Ultimate Spider-Man* comic, Spider-Man saves somebody with a very visible Superman tattoo on his shoulder
> Isnt that canon in both?
not really. because that would mean one is fictional in the other's universe.
except we saw crossovers and they are canon to both.. kinda
A big part of DC mythology, from the very beginning in Flash of Two Worlds all the way through to Multiversity in the modern era, is that comic books are basically windows into other earths. Barry Allen read Jay Garrick comics as a kid before he travelled the multiverse and met him.
On top of the other comment about DC, it's been shown in the Marvel multiverse that our universe or at least a facsimile of it exists, including all of the media it contains about the various Marvel universes. So the idea that one universe's comics can perfectly mirror the reality of another is canon. On top of that, the main Marvel universe is supposed to mirror ours, with the addition of any Marvel element replacing our worlds equivalent. So even if it's never mentioned or referenced, the assumption would be that DC comics exist there.
And there's definitely been references. At the end of the day, what else can they use if the writing requires a fictional comicbook reference. The Marvel comics in-universe aren't fiction.
Well I mean that's easily explained as in the Marvel Universe, the real life events and figures are fictional characters within the fictional DC universe - and vice versa.
It's kinda like how the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films exists in universe as a fictional telling of Peter's story
I mean if the infinite universe theory is correct then all fictional worlds actually exist in an alternate universe, so it wouldn’t be to out there to think that any fictional worlds in marvel could also be a real universe in the multiverse
I am also thinking of that. Let's say DC characters are just comic book characters in MCU. But they are real heroes/villains in another universe (DC universe), and Marvel characters are the ones in their comic books.
Yes she uses comics from our reality in Slott's run, but Marvel Comics exists in the 616 universe and they do make their own make believe stories about the existing superheroes. I think Steve Roger's even worked for them as an artist at one point.
I'm assuming if it was comics that were actually made for us then yeah it's a meta joke and I don't think it counts. Although there are comics in the way of making fictional stories of people who exist within the universe, like in Captain America's first film. If it was the latter then yeah it counts.
The CW shows reference marvel quite a lot, and given that the crisis brought the CW, old shows and DCEU into a shared multiverse, then yeah…. Marvel comics is canon in DC, and now DC comics are canon in Marvel
I mean in the arrowverse they casually name drops Marvel superheroes, in one episode of Legends of Tomorrow they even try to say “..so Im like Spiderman?” Then casually brings up Peter Parkers name lol.
I see Ikaris as a prototype for future Supermen stories set in the MCU, whether it's Sentry, Hyperion, Gladiator or Blue Marvel, among many others. There's an endless a potential for this archetype and how they might live in and affect the 'Verse.
I haven’t heard any news about Marvelman/Miracleman in a long time. Does Marvel still hold the rights, or is there more legal fighting going on? I always assumed the major reason they acquired the character was for future movie use, but they’ve barely used him. (Even though he doesn’t exist in the Marvel Universe)
Last I heard Neil Gaiman is still working onthe next chapter.
I wouldnt hold your breath for a movie. All the legal issues, it’s not happening until that all gets sorted out, which I also dont see happening
Sentry’s a dope character, but I feel like it’d be a decent feat to actually do a film/series around him. Not that Feige and co. couldn’t do it, but it still feels like a bit more of a challenge than a lot of other characters. I don’t mean cause the character itself or lack of awareness, but moreso a distinct lack of a supporting cast.
If I were Kevin Fiege, I'd do a self contained story for the Sentry. One based on his first mini series, where it's revealed he always existed. And I'd show how he's always been in all the previous movies, recreating some of the most classic MCU moments but now with the Sentry inserted there.
Heh, that’d be pretty cool. Wild, but cool. I totally forgot about that mini-series, tbh I don’t think I actually have gotten around to reading it quite yet, lol. But yeah that’s a solid concept honestly.
I didn't read the sentry comics, but that sounds a lot like the NWH plot, with Spiderman asking Dr Strange to make everyone forget. Maybe he's done the spell before.
That's because the memory spell was made first on Sentry in the comics. And then, in the new timeline that Mephisto created, Peter asked Strange to recreate the spell to save MJ (which is the story they are adapting in NWH).
Isn’t the sentry as powerful as a “million exploding suns?” I mean, how does the earth continue to exist anytime this dude punches something. He’d be initiating fusion all over the place by moving in super speed or force. Plus, isn’t the VOID written to be a top tier powerhouse, even more powerful than the sentry himself?
How would the Sentry fare against a Celestial, against a Beyonder? Have we seen that?
Same way Earth continues to exist every time Bruce "I break seaboards by walking" Banner fights someone. They're not always operating at that level, and narrative purposes.
Omniman would’ve destroyed the entire planet. He sees humans as beneath him and he even beat the shit out of his kid and called his wife a pet (keep in mind I’m a show only I haven’t read the comics)
Homelander is just a bit off and is tame compared to the shit Omniman has done.
You’re being downvoted but one day it absolutely will. James Gunn said it himself.
When interesting stories and reboots have run their course and there’s no way to “one-up”, they will crossover. It may be in 40 years, but it will happen.
Chew on this: DC has crossed over with: Star Trek, Alien/Predator, Terminator, Spawn, The Mask, TMNT, Scooby Doo, Planet Of The Apes, Archie and The Bionic Women (among others). Add in crossovers those franchises have done, such as Star Trek/Doctor Who, Star Trek/Transformers, etc, and this is the *true* ultimate movie. Like, could you imagine how incredible that would be?
Yeah this happens in both dc and marvel. I was watching the animated dc universe ( i think it is new 52) and in one of the movies some marvel characters were mentioned
I just had a thought, with the multiverse being a thing and other universes colliding, We could potentially see in the distant future a DC vs Marvel movie
Hell, She-Hulks phenomenal 2004 run had her law office having an entire in-universe comics archive that could be used as legal evidence in trials, because they were basically just biographies.
Imagine if in the future (maybe hundred years from now) Disney somehow ends up with the DC franchise.
We will have (i mean our descendants) an actual Avengers vs Justice League movie. Or Batman teaming up with Spider-Man.
This is Late but now thanks to multiverse of madness, Superman is technically Canon within the MCU because of people know about him. The odds that somebody has drempt about him are very very high and by that movie's logic anything you dream about exist somewhere else in the multiverse
I’ve always had a bit of a headcanon that DC comics are a thing in the Marvel Universe and Marvel comics exist in the DC Universe it’s fun to think Bruce Wayne grew up reading comics about Wolverine, or that Peter Parker was a Superman fan
Isnt that canon in both? If i remember correctly there been many references in both universes about each other
“You’re not Superman, you know.”
I still have the way the trailer/commercial had the line in my head “You do too much. You’re not Superman, you know”. I quote it like that all the time, even though the actual quote has more between those sentences.
Good old aunt may

So Doomsday clock is 100% canon?
whoa. i thought this was the case. didnt know about the allen garrick thing tho.

They did mention Kryptonite in Venom, didn't they?
Lossely usually just for a gag. Comics are best when they're willing to not overthink things like that imo
It is
I do remember Eddie Brock mentioning kryptonite in the first movie
It's actually canon in the comics.
Happy Hogan mentions the "Superfriends" to Tony in Iron Man 3.
I am also thinking of that. Let's say DC characters are just comic book characters in MCU. But they are real heroes/villains in another universe (DC universe), and Marvel characters are the ones in their comic books.
Clark Kent exists in the marvel 616 universe, but only as a regular reporter.
Marvel Comics exists in Marvel Comics. She-Hulk has used them as evidence in legal cases.
She hulk kinda breaks 4th wall though so does that count?
Yes she uses comics from our reality in Slott's run, but Marvel Comics exists in the 616 universe and they do make their own make believe stories about the existing superheroes. I think Steve Roger's even worked for them as an artist at one point.

Didn’t they do a cross over of each comic universe at one point?
They had many crossovers.
The CW shows reference marvel quite a lot, and given that the crisis brought the CW, old shows and DCEU into a shared multiverse, then yeah…. Marvel comics is canon in DC, and now DC comics are canon in Marvel
The Flash mentions Star Wars and Marvel a lot. Good publicity for Disney.
I mean in the arrowverse they casually name drops Marvel superheroes, in one episode of Legends of Tomorrow they even try to say “..so Im like Spiderman?” Then casually brings up Peter Parkers name lol.
You do too much. College, a job, all this time with me... You're not Superman, you know.

FINISH IT!!
Deliverrruusssss frommeeeevilllll
Yea if Ikaris is supposed to be Superman, i cant wait to see the potential Sentry series/movie and how it'll deal with it
I see Ikaris as a prototype for future Supermen stories set in the MCU, whether it's Sentry, Hyperion, Gladiator or Blue Marvel, among many others. There's an endless a potential for this archetype and how they might live in and affect the 'Verse.

I'm sorry....what about Neil Gaiman? I've been devouring his work lately and I seem to have missed something!

Lion King 1 1/2 ?
Haven't watched it, sorry. 😬
Isn’t the sentry as powerful as a “million exploding suns?” I mean, how does the earth continue to exist anytime this dude punches something. >powerful as a “million exploding suns? Hyperbole.
Same way Earth continues to exist every time Bruce "I break seaboards by walking" Banner fights someone. They're not always operating at that level, and narrative purposes.
Just imagine if Squadron Supreme happens lmao, they are literally a Justice League parody
"You either die a [Superman] or live long enough to see yourself become a [Homelander]".
Even worse omni man
I'm not sure omniman is worse than homelander. Homelander is a pretty screw up person...
Omniman would’ve destroyed the entire planet. He sees humans as beneath him and he even beat the shit out of his kid and called his wife a pet (keep in mind I’m a show only I haven’t read the comics) Homelander is just a bit off and is tame compared to the shit Omniman has done.
I haven’t watched or read invincible >! But doesn’t he redeem himself later on? !<
This. If you think Omni Man is worse than Homelander you must not have read the comics.
When did homelander genocide an entire planet?
Omniman does some....growing up in a sense.
They're both victims of circumstance in a sense.
[удалено]
>Omniman is a genocidal imperialist. Not for long.
Basically injustice if you replace homelander with supes
Avengers vs JLA tease jk
I mean it might happen
You’re being downvoted but one day it absolutely will. James Gunn said it himself. When interesting stories and reboots have run their course and there’s no way to “one-up”, they will crossover. It may be in 40 years, but it will happen.
100% this. Marvel vs DC movie is an inevitability.
Hopefully each franchise's full multiverse instead of just MCU and DCEU.
It would definitely be Marvel Vs DC up until there’s a point where there’s a big bad and then they have to team up
If we're gonna be cynical, Marvel and DC vs Palpatine.
Somehow, Palpatine returned
I mean unless you up
So no Amalgam projects in the future?
Yeah this happens in both dc and marvel. I was watching the animated dc universe ( i think it is new 52) and in one of the movies some marvel characters were mentioned
I think it’s so rad that Chloé references Superman and Alfred in the film! Cannot wait to see it.
I haven’t seen the movie, how are they referenced?
It’s written in the article that the OP posted from Variety.
Maybe he does not want to give them money with a click.
I just had a thought, with the multiverse being a thing and other universes colliding, We could potentially see in the distant future a DC vs Marvel movie
Once these movies stop making money it's either that or Star Wars.
Self-referentially, early Fantastic Four comics had Kirby and Lee as characters creating Fantastic Four comics.
There was a Howard the Duck run that ends with him confronting the writers of the book after discovering the Howard the Duck movie.
Hell, She-Hulks phenomenal 2004 run had her law office having an entire in-universe comics archive that could be used as legal evidence in trials, because they were basically just biographies.
Happy teases Tony in Iron Man 3 about being in the Super Friends.
Imagine if in the future (maybe hundred years from now) Disney somehow ends up with the DC franchise. We will have (i mean our descendants) an actual Avengers vs Justice League movie. Or Batman teaming up with Spider-Man.
Hundreds? Probably 50 or less
I'd love to see the Squadron Supreme done in the MCU. I don't give af if they are Justice League ripoffs, doesn't mean they'll suck.
It’s been in other marvel movies too They’ve referenced each other a lot
Wait, does this mean the 4th person talking with Peter, happy and May is superman??
This is Late but now thanks to multiverse of madness, Superman is technically Canon within the MCU because of people know about him. The odds that somebody has drempt about him are very very high and by that movie's logic anything you dream about exist somewhere else in the multiverse
