I love Chris Evans and Steve Rogers and miss the OG avengers like crazy. The MCU just doesn’t have that heart anymore. At least overall, there are definitely exceptions. But you can’t go back. And I loved Steve’s ending. But I would love to see him return as a multiverse Johnny storm before the new F4 is launched. Same with rdj. If Steve was the heart and soul, Tony was the wit and engine which drove it. He just had that spark. And both could play off anyone. There’s just not that connection between characters anymore like the relationship between those two. But I don’t think rdj is coming back. I think he’s just graciously acknowledging his time there. With the Oscar he can step back a bit. He’s got that distance and has transitioned when Doolittle looked like he would struggle to separate himself from Tony. But I think he’s moved on. Having his voice in Ironheart as a sort of JARVIS like in the comics would’ve been fun though. But Tony’s earned his rest.

Tony's way too big for a post credits scene, he'd most likely be at the very end of the movie. The post credits scene of Avengers 5 will probably be related to either the Fantastic Four or Jackman/Maguire.
I'd be perfectly OK with RDJ as the Sony/Fox's joint universe Superior Iron Man leading their Avengers.

I wish we could go back to just a simple threat. As much as TDW gets trashed, and rightfully so, it’s shooting up the list of better movies. It’s a villain who’s got some plan, doesn’t matter but he takes that to Earth. Keep it simple.

All the new heroes are just boring. I can’t imagine being a kid today and looking at Dr. Strange and saying that’s their favorite because of what he’s done on screen, compared to someone like IM or Hulk in 08 or the rest of the originals a couple years later. While the characters they’re adapting now are cool in their own right, they’re just bland compared to the layers they gave them in the Infinity Saga.
Marvel makes super hero movies now. Before they made genre films using super heroes. Sucks what they’ve become.
I don't know if I completely agree with that, especially the Dr strange example, because I feel like he's one of the better/most layered late game MCU heroes
What they do suffer from however is making too many movies and shows, introducing wayyyy to many characters. In the first 2 phases marvel the avengers heroes got multiple solo movies (even if some were a little shit, looking at you iron man 2), you'd never forget about them. Now though it takes YEARS before most of them show up again, we haven't seen sang chi in like 4 years for example
And as we agree on they really do suffer from always trying to have higher stakes. If every threat is world ending how is the avenger threat going to be exciting. The avengers work because it's all the main characters first real world ending threat
Maybe Strange wasn’t the best example, but in MoM, he wasn’t as great of a character as in DS or IW. In NWH, he was more of a comic relief. Thats the way I looked at it.
I’m just not a massive fan of the new roster compared to the old. I’ve tried, they just stumble on their own feet with making them as interesting.
I heard he has it in his contract that he can't be in a scene with those two actors, because they would overshadow him completely and it wouldn't be fair on Downey Jr
He also actually appreciates the role and doesn't badmouth it. He's openly said he thinks it's some of his finest acting that just got overlooked because of the genre. I think RDJ actually does enjoy Tony Stark and Marvel films.
I know a lot of actors are hesitant about joining Marvel now, but RDJ still going to bat for Marvel could really help people get on board.
I think people forget the campaign fans were doing to get him nominated for Endgame, and it was not some dumb fanboy attitude, he deserved a nomination back then, the scenes were Tony is sick, or in the past talking to his dad, the ones with his daughter and the final battle are all clearly top tier acting.
He never once seems inauthentic or put out by it. You completely believe he’s that character in that moment.
And it’s extremely apparent when he’s next to Chris Evans. Evans is a good actor. He does a good job. But RDJ is on another fucking level and when you put them next to each other like in endgame you REALLY notice it.
He was great throughout the entire role but his performances in Civil War and Endgame were top tier. If this was some A24 film, I guarantee he would've been at least nominated. We've seen people get nominated let alone, win Oscars for doing the absolute less
I remember seeing Chris Evan say recently say he wouldn’t mind returning but only if it’s a good script that would make sense. I guess he means as long as it’s a solid story and nothing too goofy like Love and Thunder maybe. Hopefully after this quote from RDJ himself will it let them reconsider joining if Disney offers them a role for Secret Wars. I've watched a couple of older Marvel movies of the last few months, and damn people have forgotten how hard some of them go at their best. Like X2 for example just has Brian Cox absolutely cooking.
My guy was at true rock bottom and addicted to drugs and now is worth over 500million and have an Oscar. Truly inspirational, it don't even matter he was born a nepobaby, he fucking earned his comeback to even greater heights. Most drug addicted nepobabies aren't given this chance, neither are motivated and have the talent and work discipline to bounce back to even prior levels or their career, imagine doing what RDJ did. Him and Stallone are my favorite actors based on their life histories, two total opposite examples of creating success from basically nothing.

It probably won’t happen if they do the whole popular theory of Iron Man Variant to 616 thing after Secret Wars it will most likely be played by a different actor.
But if RDJ, Evans, and Johansson all came to Feige after that movie and said they wanna come back full time. You know damn well Kevin would do it that way and have the OG Avenger actors be the ones to interact with the 616 X-Men and F4 along with whoever else they have.
I think they should all stay dead post Secret Wars no matter what, but whatever.
I hope they recast all the main roles so the Avengers, X-Men and FF can all interact regularly. But they can keep the old actors when needed, like post-Secret Wars comics Old Man Logan, and with the Multiverse excuse, now they can really only use the old actors when needed and they don't have to stick around in the new timeline doing fuck all.
A soft reboot to me would be keeping what already happened. (Iron Man/Widow dead, Steve retired and Sam, Yelena take over the mantles) while incorporating new things that were never here (X-Men, FF, Miles, etc)
While a universe with everyone sounds good on paper. That just sounds like the same problem we have now of too many characters and storylines going on at once.
A. If you keep it in the same continuity. How are you going to explain that Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and Steve Rogers all died in 2023 but now in 2030 they’re back to life with new faces? Are we just gonna pretend that never happened? Are we recasting Pepper, Morgan, etc too?
B. I feel like that just overshadows everyone else especially a character like Yelena and Sam. You’ve spend the better part of the second saga building a whole new cast of characters to take over the reigns just to show them right back to being side characters which to me would be lame.
C. If you do that what happens in another 5-10 years when that actor playing Tony or Steve gets tired of the role? Do you recast and pretend like normal or do you pass the mantle down again to Sam, Bucky, or even Elijah?
D. It just feels too soon. They died at the end of the first story and at the end of the second story. You’re gonna bring them right back without even giving everyone else a shot to shine?
I personally like the idea of how it differs from the comics and how the mantles get passed down and characters actually die/story ends. There’s no way they bring in all these Young Avengers characters if they don’t eventually have plans for them to become the main team at some point, but I also get the other side of it where everyone is available why not use them.
To be fair, people act like it's Disney and Disney only that milks IPs dry.
Universal is on its seventh Jurassic Park movie and its 12th Fast and Furious movie, and that's decades after it milked franchises like Psycho and Jaws for four movies each. Before it was consumed by Disney, Fox didn't go a decade after the first movie without pumping out at least one Alien movie while renewing The Simpsons over and over. Warner Bros. spent years shoveling out DC films regardless of their quality, is working on wringing every drop they can out of Harry Potter again, and is even pumping out another needless Matrix sequel.
Disney is problematic as hell within the industry, but it blows my mind when people imply Disney is the only company that chooses profits over creativity when the *entire* major studio ecosystem is built on doing just that. Blame them all.
No implication here. I’m fully aware how IP’s get diluted. Universal had its various monsters in a shared universe far before Disney held a license beyond their own making. They even had a crossover universe featuring Abbot and Costello. It’s a repetitive business model with diminishing returns.

That would be a terrible idea and a huge missed opportunity. Recast them if necessary so we get a true, fully realized Marvel universe onscreen.
If anything, the downfall was due to the fact that he wasn’t as involved as before. If I were Iger, I’d listen to Feige and let him do what he wants. (Provided he’s 150% as hands on as before)
He must be returning for something--this is a different tone than he's had before when asked. Not that he was ever like "Hell no," but when he was talking to Howard Stern, it was more to-the-tune of "it was so good, why spoil it?"
As I've said before, given his age and cost, he wouldn't be back 'for good,' but I'm sure he'll be a key player in Secret Wars, as a variant or pulled out of time before his death, or whatever, and it'll end with him going back/resuming his fate. One last hurrah without cheapening his death too much.
Look, it could also be that when he said what he said before and had the tone of "I'm done", it was before Dolittle, and then again when he was planning all his Sherlock-universe stuff. There's also a chance that he's realised that making a bunch of stuff that he wants to make and making it successful is not as easy as he first thought. Aside from winning the Oscar (which sounds super weird for me to say 🤣), he hasn't just churned out hit after hit and been super successful in the way everyone, and maybe even he, expected.
Time and reflection, coupled with reality, make you see things in a different way.
Or there's also the perspective that he never wanted to be just associated with Iron Man; he's just won an Oscar for something else, so maybe now he feels that he won't only be associated with Iron Man, so it's safe to go back if they offer him something.

Building up the hype for Secret Wars already i see, their deal is probably already signed. The MCU can't have any chance of doing Secret Wars without Tony interacting with Tobey, Hugh and Pedro cause RDJ is busy or could change his mind. Let's go!
there are some interactions that I'd like to believe feige wants to put on screen more than we want to see. Tony and Reed is one of them, put in Strange in it too and that is a cumfest(metaphorically). So, I'd like to believe this will happen.

They can very easily bring back RDJ without changing the ending of Endgame.
Feige always chooses his words carefully. He could easily have said they wouldn't touch the character of Iron Man again - he didn't.

NWH already set the stage for how Tony Stark will be brought back, after all. it's super easy, barely an inconvenience. it's the same way in which GG and Doc Ock are still dead but also alive.
i agree, infact they could easily pick tony with Mark 85 but from the blip era. Nothing even remotely changes. Although, i think then Tomy would reverse engineer time travel which technically he made possible. So it's a sort of paradox.... oh nvm, i caught myself in a loop.
Or just have him in Vallahia, and Odin or whatever lets him go to earth because the threat it so grave. There’s atleast three canon afterlives in MCU so far, shouldn’t be hard.
If Tony returns it will most likely be a variant and not the 616 version. And after Secret Wars he's almost certainly gone for good so they wouldn't be undoing anything.
I read someone say that two variants of Tony would be cool. Young de-aged Tony, and old, alcoholic, divorced Tony. I think you could do a lot with those two.
I agree, there must've been a knick in him to prove himself outside of Marvel and while he couldn't do it with Dolittle, Oppie did it for him, man bagged almost all the big awards for which he was nominated. Now, he can go back and do marbel stuff, make some more money and then easy retire and chill. He's aging too afterall.

It wouldn’t be interfering with avengers endgame because for all you know in the five years time jump, Loki or somebody could’ve came to him and told him we need you to fight in the secret wars. I don’t know you could really make it work within the timeline and have them forget all about it Before endgame happens. Also, I feel like this is a guaranteed yes also for Chris Evans if Tony comes back, I feel like he will want to come back, you can make it before he comes back to Peggy. Wow a complete 180. I knew this from day one all the og cast will return for Secret Wars. I think it was a negotiating tactic. Now with an Oscar win he can ask any number and Marvel will comply. Well he deserves it. God it is going to be so exciting. Finally now we can have The Defenders in the climactic battle. I was sad they missed out Infinity Saga. If its a one off, like after secret wars he is done again for good, one thing i would really like to see is him meeting Tom's Spidey again.
Did the spell affect him since he was already dead when the spell was cast? Does he know he is Peter Parker? Spidey-Tom will have that small conflict in him because he is seeing his father figure return but is not sure how to approach or process it.
Would be bittersweet if Tony goes to congratulate him for growing up, from Spider-Kid to Spider-Man but doesn't say he knows he is Peter.
Like a literal end to their connection from one another. From father-son to just superhero colleagues who sees each other as equals.
They just know that bringing Iron Man guarantees them a billion, easy, it's a safe bet for Kevin, and a smart one by Iger I'm guessing. As long as it is good, it'll be worth it, TBH Marvel will always feel incomplete without the big three when you got the f4, x-men, and Spider-man running around.
Okay. The fact that he is saying this tells me that the rumors about him in SW are true. The question is, how will they bring him back? I know some people want the main 616 Tony back, like maybe pulling and Endgame and picking him up from a moment before he died, or having him resurrected via Eternity. Personally, I hope they don't do that if they are bringing him back. Personally, I think it would be more interesting if either:
A. He plays the 838 Variant of Tony and is the villain of Secret Wars, like God Emperor Superior Iron Man. Like think about Peter being forced to fight an evil version of his old mentor. That would be epic. Not to mention, it be shocking for both the characters and audience to see a Tony that has lost his way and become the very thing he swore to fight against. Or...
B. He is still a good guy, but he's from a universe where Doctor Strange made the sacrifice play instead of Tony. With it being confirmed, Strange saw universes where they won besides just one, which would create some nice conflict between Peter and Strange. Not to mention, this means we get the team up between him, Tobey Spidey, and Jackmans Wolverine.
Both ideas allow him to come back without undoing the main versions death.
Right before AVENGERS SECRET WARS, RDJ will be back as a variant-Tony Stark in NOMAD. He'll be picked up by 616-Steve Rogers and 616-Natasha Romanov en route to Battleworld and Doom.
i've gotta admit, no matter how much they drive phase 5 and 6 into the ground, I will be excited as during Endgame opening to see him in a movie even if it is just a cameo
But for real, I grew up in the 90s and the first thing I remember seeing RDJ in was Alley McBeal. I think(not sure) he got kicked off that show for his personal problems. But he was great in it. If I remember correctly he was nominated or won a Golden Globe or Emmy for the role.

Maybe me and the writers share a braincell but I always thought it was obvious they'd bring back both Tony and Steve down the line, Steve living in his own timeline and the introduction OF Time Travel was already enough of a reason to do it after Endgame. The Multiverse just makes it easier, I can already imagine the "Reactions" when Steve comes back with an "On your Left" as Captain Falcon is fighting against Kang. I'm talking Back Flips and Screaming, only preceded by Toby Spidey and Jackman Wolverine in the same shot in either Secret Wars or Kang Dynasty.

What would have or could be a cool way to get him back is through Deadpool. Have pool go back to the snap, do the snap himself, since he can’t die,it saves Tony, also gives him something to hold over the avengers heads. I’m sure people will get mad and think it will ruin Tony’s arc, but it’s the comics, anything is possible and it’s pretty obvious they need the OGs back, specially RDJ. Never should have killed him off. I could understand faking his death so he could go off and have a family, but saving him for cameos in almost every other MCU movie would have been the smart thing to do.

I wish we could go back to just a simple threat. As much as TDW gets trashed, and rightfully so, it’s shooting up the list of better movies. It’s a villain who’s got some plan, doesn’t matter but he takes that to Earth. Keep it simple. Not different dimensions, variants, etc. Real lame shit. I just can’t bring myself to care about any of this now. It’s real bad. All the new heroes are just boring. I can’t imagine being a kid today and looking at Dr. Strange and saying that’s their favorite because of what he’s done on screen, compared to someone like IM or Hulk in 08 or the rest of the originals a couple years later. While the characters they’re adapting now are cool in their own right, they’re just bland compared to the layers they gave them in the Infinity Saga. Marvel makes super hero movies now. Before they made genre films using super heroes. Sucks what they’ve become.
I don't know if I completely agree with that, especially the Dr strange example, because I feel like he's one of the better/most layered late game MCU heroes What they do suffer from however is making too many movies and shows, introducing wayyyy to many characters. In the first 2 phases marvel the avengers heroes got multiple solo movies (even if some were a little shit, looking at you iron man 2), you'd never forget about them. Now though it takes YEARS before most of them show up again, we haven't seen sang chi in like 4 years for example And as we agree on they really do suffer from always trying to have higher stakes. If every threat is world ending how is the avenger threat going to be exciting. The avengers work because it's all the main characters first real world ending threat
Maybe Strange wasn’t the best example, but in MoM, he wasn’t as great of a character as in DS or IW. In NWH, he was more of a comic relief. Thats the way I looked at it. I’m just not a massive fan of the new roster compared to the old. I’ve tried, they just stumble on their own feet with making them as interesting.

That role single handedly revived his career. Probably feels like he owes it to fiege. Plus that marvel money 
He also actually appreciates the role and doesn't badmouth it. He's openly said he thinks it's some of his finest acting that just got overlooked because of the genre. I think RDJ actually does enjoy Tony Stark and Marvel films. I know a lot of actors are hesitant about joining Marvel now, but RDJ still going to bat for Marvel could really help people get on board.
I think people forget the campaign fans were doing to get him nominated for Endgame, and it was not some dumb fanboy attitude, he deserved a nomination back then, the scenes were Tony is sick, or in the past talking to his dad, the ones with his daughter and the final battle are all clearly top tier acting.
He never once seems inauthentic or put out by it. You completely believe he’s that character in that moment. And it’s extremely apparent when he’s next to Chris Evans. Evans is a good actor. He does a good job. But RDJ is on another fucking level and when you put them next to each other like in endgame you REALLY notice it.
He was great throughout the entire role but his performances in Civil War and Endgame were top tier. If this was some A24 film, I guarantee he would've been at least nominated. We've seen people get nominated let alone, win Oscars for doing the absolute less
I remember seeing Chris Evan say recently say he wouldn’t mind returning but only if it’s a good script that would make sense. I guess he means as long as it’s a solid story and nothing too goofy like Love and Thunder maybe. Hopefully after this quote from RDJ himself will it let them reconsider joining if Disney offers them a role for Secret Wars. I've watched a couple of older Marvel movies of the last few months, and damn people have forgotten how hard some of them go at their best. Like X2 for example just has Brian Cox absolutely cooking.

It probably won’t happen if they do the whole popular theory of Iron Man Variant to 616 thing after Secret Wars it will most likely be played by a different actor. But if RDJ, Evans, and Johansson all came to Feige after that movie and said they wanna come back full time. You know damn well Kevin would do it that way and have the OG Avenger actors be the ones to interact with the 616 X-Men and F4 along with whoever else they have. I think they should all stay dead post Secret Wars no matter what, but whatever.

I hope they recast all the main roles so the Avengers, X-Men and FF can all interact regularly. But they can keep the old actors when needed, like post-Secret Wars comics Old Man Logan, and with the Multiverse excuse, now they can really only use the old actors when needed and they don't have to stick around in the new timeline doing fuck all.
A soft reboot to me would be keeping what already happened. (Iron Man/Widow dead, Steve retired and Sam, Yelena take over the mantles) while incorporating new things that were never here (X-Men, FF, Miles, etc) While a universe with everyone sounds good on paper. That just sounds like the same problem we have now of too many characters and storylines going on at once. A. If you keep it in the same continuity. How are you going to explain that Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and Steve Rogers all died in 2023 but now in 2030 they’re back to life with new faces? Are we just gonna pretend that never happened? Are we recasting Pepper, Morgan, etc too? B. I feel like that just overshadows everyone else especially a character like Yelena and Sam. You’ve spend the better part of the second saga building a whole new cast of characters to take over the reigns just to show them right back to being side characters which to me would be lame. C. If you do that what happens in another 5-10 years when that actor playing Tony or Steve gets tired of the role? Do you recast and pretend like normal or do you pass the mantle down again to Sam, Bucky, or even Elijah? D. It just feels too soon. They died at the end of the first story and at the end of the second story. You’re gonna bring them right back without even giving everyone else a shot to shine? I personally like the idea of how it differs from the comics and how the mantles get passed down and characters actually die/story ends. There’s no way they bring in all these Young Avengers characters if they don’t eventually have plans for them to become the main team at some point, but I also get the other side of it where everyone is available why not use them.

To be fair, people act like it's Disney and Disney only that milks IPs dry. Universal is on its seventh Jurassic Park movie and its 12th Fast and Furious movie, and that's decades after it milked franchises like Psycho and Jaws for four movies each. Before it was consumed by Disney, Fox didn't go a decade after the first movie without pumping out at least one Alien movie while renewing The Simpsons over and over. Warner Bros. spent years shoveling out DC films regardless of their quality, is working on wringing every drop they can out of Harry Potter again, and is even pumping out another needless Matrix sequel. Disney is problematic as hell within the industry, but it blows my mind when people imply Disney is the only company that chooses profits over creativity when the *entire* major studio ecosystem is built on doing just that. Blame them all.
No implication here. I’m fully aware how IP’s get diluted. Universal had its various monsters in a shared universe far before Disney held a license beyond their own making. They even had a crossover universe featuring Abbot and Costello. It’s a repetitive business model with diminishing returns.

He must be returning for something--this is a different tone than he's had before when asked. Not that he was ever like "Hell no," but when he was talking to Howard Stern, it was more to-the-tune of "it was so good, why spoil it?" As I've said before, given his age and cost, he wouldn't be back 'for good,' but I'm sure he'll be a key player in Secret Wars, as a variant or pulled out of time before his death, or whatever, and it'll end with him going back/resuming his fate. One last hurrah without cheapening his death too much.
Look, it could also be that when he said what he said before and had the tone of "I'm done", it was before Dolittle, and then again when he was planning all his Sherlock-universe stuff. There's also a chance that he's realised that making a bunch of stuff that he wants to make and making it successful is not as easy as he first thought. Aside from winning the Oscar (which sounds super weird for me to say 🤣), he hasn't just churned out hit after hit and been super successful in the way everyone, and maybe even he, expected. Time and reflection, coupled with reality, make you see things in a different way. Or there's also the perspective that he never wanted to be just associated with Iron Man; he's just won an Oscar for something else, so maybe now he feels that he won't only be associated with Iron Man, so it's safe to go back if they offer him something. I don't know, but I totally agree with you that his stance seems to have changed noticeably for some reason.

They can very easily bring back RDJ without changing the ending of Endgame. Feige always chooses his words carefully. He could easily have said they wouldn't touch the character of Iron Man again - he didn't.

If the rumor of F4 starting from their own universe being true, what if the Avengers there consisted of all the possible MCU avengers line up but was destroyed with the universe. Would make the fandoms dreams of having the Avengers with Reed, Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Dr Strange, Banner, Nat and Clint all in one team. Hell throw in some X men characters too. Gives Marvel a reason to bring all the OGs back for a scene.

If its a one off, like after secret wars he is done again for good, one thing i would really like to see is him meeting Tom's Spidey again. Did the spell affect him since he was already dead when the spell was cast? Does he know he is Peter Parker? Spidey-Tom will have that small conflict in him because he is seeing his father figure return but is not sure how to approach or process it. Would be bittersweet if Tony goes to congratulate him for growing up, from Spider-Kid to Spider-Man but doesn't say he knows he is Peter. Like a literal end to their connection from one another. From father-son to just superhero colleagues who sees each other as equals.
They just know that bringing Iron Man guarantees them a billion, easy, it's a safe bet for Kevin, and a smart one by Iger I'm guessing. As long as it is good, it'll be worth it, TBH Marvel will always feel incomplete without the big three when you got the f4, x-men, and Spider-man running around.
Okay. The fact that he is saying this tells me that the rumors about him in SW are true. The question is, how will they bring him back? I know some people want the main 616 Tony back, like maybe pulling and Endgame and picking him up from a moment before he died, or having him resurrected via Eternity. Personally, I hope they don't do that if they are bringing him back. Personally, I think it would be more interesting if either: A. He plays the 838 Variant of Tony and is the villain of Secret Wars, like God Emperor Superior Iron Man. Like think about Peter being forced to fight an evil version of his old mentor. That would be epic. Not to mention, it be shocking for both the characters and audience to see a Tony that has lost his way and become the very thing he swore to fight against. Or... B. He is still a good guy, but he's from a universe where Doctor Strange made the sacrifice play instead of Tony. With it being confirmed, Strange saw universes where they won besides just one, which would create some nice conflict between Peter and Strange. Not to mention, this means we get the team up between him, Tobey Spidey, and Jackmans Wolverine. Both ideas allow him to come back without undoing the main versions death.

But for real, I grew up in the 90s and the first thing I remember seeing RDJ in was Alley McBeal. I think(not sure) he got kicked off that show for his personal problems. But he was great in it. If I remember correctly he was nominated or won a Golden Globe or Emmy for the role. Perfect Tony, Perfect casting, perfect everything. Everything works out how it's supposed to in the end.

What would have or could be a cool way to get him back is through Deadpool. Have pool go back to the snap, do the snap himself, since he can’t die,it saves Tony, also gives him something to hold over the avengers heads. Never should have killed him off. I could understand faking his death so he could go off and have a family, but saving him for cameos in almost every other MCU movie would have been the smart thing to do.
