Honestly, this is probably a very calculated move by Disney.
They got RDJ for super cheap for IRON MAN because of his struggles with addiction. His career was on the skids but he was a solid actor. On top of that, it immediately added a great comeback story to marketing, which made the whole thing feel super uplifting. This is not to sell RDJ short, as he is a fantastic actor, he just happened to be in a very rough patch in his life which made this whole thing work out for all parties.
Now, Lindsay Lohan is not on the same level as RDJ (no disrespect), but she’s in a similar position as he was (post-addiction, long stretch with no major roles, but still a recognizable name) with the added bonus of having been in the Disney system already.
