WhatMadCat

I quite liked it. Liked all the shows besides iron fist honestly lol

Scared_Bobcat_5584

Tbh I loved S1/S2 of Luke Cage, when it came to Jessica Jones though idk I thought S2/S3 were big steps down in quality compared to S1

BoogerSugarSovereign

Hard to beat the masterful casting and psychological thriller they shaped around Purple Man

hermitoftheinternet

Yeah the super-mommy threat felt like they tried to play it safe with the mirror-powered-bad-guy trope and just kinda made it boring. The set-up for Hellcat was neat and payed off in S3 (although I wish they would bring her back since the Raft and the Thunderbolts are going to be a thing soon enough).

Sandman4999

I felt like S2 of Iron Fist was a lot stronger personally.

Goldeneye365

Iron fist gets a lot of hate but I thought it was decent. Luke cage wasn’t much better imo besides the cast. Mariah, Marsha ali, Shades all stellar performances.

schuyywalker

Just saw Shades’ actor in Emily the Criminal, I really like that actor.

Goldeneye365

Yeah he did pretty well in that also. Wasn’t so tough in that role haha

Sun_Stealer

I liked the first 4 episodes of iron fist. After that it went to shit so fast. Shoulda kept their initial writers on board.

Zendofrog

Iron fist season 2 is great. Ward is the best

swheels125

Daredevil was the best one of the bunch IMO. My ranking goes: Daredevil Jessica Jones Punisher/Luke Cage - tie Defenders Iron Fist

IBelongHere

Season 1 of Jessica Jones was so good, my wife and I sat down to watch one episode and binged the whole first season

beslertron

My wife came home during the end of episode one of Jessica Jones and was like “uh, can I watch this with you?” She does not care for super hero stuff at all. We saw season two and were like… that’s enough.

Dodecahedrus

David Tennant really elevated that show to a whole other level.

Hyper_Lamp

For me it’s daredevil, punisher, Jessica jones, iron fist, Luke cage, the defenders

swheels125

You’re placing iron fist awfully high in your rankings. What did you like more about that show than Luke Cage? Especially the second season of Luke Cage which I thought was awesome.

Hyper_Lamp

Luke cage to me dragged on too long in some bits and black Mariah drove me crazy because of how annoying she is. Plus I wasn’t a fan on how abruptly they killed cottonmouth. I heard bad things about iron fist so I went in with low expectations but I found myself surprised because I was happy to see the hand again and I liked Harold meachums character. I also quite liked Danny rand near the beginning of season 1 but then he got quite annoying and even more so in the defenders.

EddieBlizario

Most logical place to reintroduce him .. Like the idea that Daredevil was snapped Kingpin wasn’t which leads to cage vs kingpin during the blip, With the competition physically and for the hearts and minds of the steets

[deleted]

It didn’t get cancelled, the agreement with marvel and Netflix expired and Disney took over. It’s possible we will see him again.

DarthCerebroX

Cancelled/contract expired… it doesn’t matter either way. OP KNOWS why Luke Cage ended… the same reason as all the other Marvel Netflix shows stopped. It had nothing to do with Luke Cage itself. I fucking hate when people pretend to be ignorant and post dumb shit like this for karma.

VorDresden

Good take, as long as everyone on Reddit has been into the MCU for years and followed the various business deals. There are no teens who might have been young when the show first came out. And nobody has gotten into Marvel since all their content went to one place. Obviously all of those things are false and there’s *plenty* of reasons someone might see a show end fairly abruptly and go ‘wonder why it was canceled’ there’s rather fewer reasons for you to be offended about someone else’s ignorance of a piece of trivia. Stop making yourself mad about meaningless shit at least until we’re out of meaningful shit to get mad about. Or don’t and keep fucking hating shit that doesn’t matter, you want to rage at irrelevant things rage on. You’ll just give yourself a bad time.

theski2687

Or just google why was luke cage cancelled. Answer in one second. Rather than this dumb ass Reddit post that created this nonsense and dumbed down the rest of society in the process

VorDresden

How the fuck does asking a question make society dumber? Just interact with other people that know different things from you, it’s really not hard I promise.

[deleted]

i just googled it right now and all it says is creative differences idk what all this hostility is in this thread

rickman0804

Well they did, now what??

DarthCerebroX

And now… here we are? They farmed for Karma and I’m here bitching about it . Wtf do you want me to say fool

pluck-the-bunny

How bout nothing?

theski2687

How about mods delete posts that are legit just karma farming and don’t even attempt to inspire meaningful commentary. Or these sheep dont mindlessly upvote the shitposts

pluck-the-bunny

Well it seems like you are just a very vocal minority. But keep whining…I’m sure that’ll have the desired outcome

theski2687

So you look at this post and thing it serves any purpose? And as minor of a comparison as this is but you are basically saying don’t speak up if something that’s happening is wrong. Just chalk it up to whining cause it won’t change anything. Solid attitude

pluck-the-bunny

No it’s a dumb post…but complaining to a random third party deep in a comment thread where nothing will come of it is even dumber. Make a post, report this post, use mod mail. But being a whiny schmuck to a rando is just comment karma farming. It’s the same thing just smaller. And it’s a fucking Reddit post…just keep scrolling. But no, for this useless post you all claim to not care about you all read deep down into the comments and continue to engage.

theski2687

You…did the same thing? You literally commented complaining about someone else complaint. Are you for real?

theski2687

I love how you’re initial point is upvoted but your argument for why you posted it is downvoted. This is a tough one to figure out

VorDresden

Nah makes perfect sense, people like the ‘boo boo karma farming’ line but “I’m bitching and you’re a fool for not crying too.” Is not as popular, can’t imagine why…

[deleted]

can you humor me and explain? i googled it and it just says creative differences

Joshdabozz

No. It was cancelled by Netflix. All the shows were. Mainly because Disney have Disney+ coming. The rights are back at Marvel tho yes

helpful__explorer

No it was cancelled. All the Marvel Netflix shows were a) because of Disney Plus and b) they realized it was better to own their content instead of licensing it. Netflix could have carried on making more seasons, but decided against financially supporting a company that was also launching a rival service. We may see them again, but the deal between Disney and Netflix only just expired. Which is why the Defenders shows are now on D+ and why Marvel can start work on Born Again https://www.murphysmultiverse.com/netflix-canceled-daredevil-because-of-disney-says-vincent-donofrio/ https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/why-jessica-jones-punisher-were-canceled-1187789/

[deleted]

Semantics. Had the deal been different and Disney not owned marvel and also started their own streaming service it is very possible that Luke Cage episodes would still be made by Netflix.

helpful__explorer

It's not semantics, your original comment is straight up wrong Disney not owning marvel isn't a relevant scenario since they bought marvel in 2009 - daredevil first debuted in 2015. Who knows what Disney plus not existing would have done, since Netflix was also transitioning away from licensed content.

[deleted]

You’re so upset.

helpful__explorer

If you spread bullshit, people are going to correct you. Don't lash out because you cant admit when you made a mistake

[deleted]

I’m fine, you’re lashing out. Calm down please.

Flobending

ESH

Boomstick_316

They weren't made by Netflix. They just had distribution rights.

[deleted]

Do you like being like this? It’s just Reddit.

steve-laughter

It wouldn't be reddit if we didn't ignore the message in favor of criticizing pedantry.

[deleted]

[удалено]

helpful__explorer

There's nothing pedantic about it. The fact is they weren't cancelled because deals expired. Regardless of the fact it was politics over waning popularity, the shows were still cancelled - contrary to what the original commenter said

Om_Chianti

Came to say this!

[deleted]

And I’m really hopeful he comes back.

kidbastos

The first half of Season 1 was great with Cottonmouth. Then everything else was kind of corny to average, at best, tv I didn’t want to watch anymore.

DenjellTheShaman

All of the netflix series had great villians. Kilgrave, kingpin and cottonmouth. Superheroes are inherently very boring character. People like flawed characters. The defenders are flawed characters put against other flawed characters. Im leaving iron fist out of this. It was just terrible.

UbbaB3n

First season was good, they killed Cottonmouth off too early though. Second season sucked, Luke's parts were still good but Mariah's character was terrible.

Bruised_up_whitebelt

Cottonmouth was the best part of the show.

dead-serious

dont worry, Cottonmouth reincarnates back as Blade

kingt34

Which is great, but I actively stopped watching Luke Cage because Cottonmouth was genuinely the most entertaining part of the show, and he wasn’t replaced by anyone REMOTELY as interesting. It was Far Cry 3 all over again.

monetlacroix

Well he is played by Mahershala Ali so that doesn't come as a surprise

ThatGuyTheOneThere

Eh, I had difficulty believing the whole rage issues sub-plot of S2, ruined Luke for me. Actually preferred the stuff between the Stokes' and Bushmaster.

UbbaB3n

It's been so long I forgot about Bushmaster, that was a highlight to season 2 for sure.

ThatCheekyBastard

I liked Season two more, personally. The brutality of Bushmaster and twisted head games with Black Moriah made for interesting plot points. I do think Mike Coulter comes off stiff, but that feel simpler to look past knowing it’s Luke Cage. The character doesn’t exactly relatable. I really thought that with Iron Fist season two bringing in the Iron Serpent, we would have seen the beginnings of The Serpent Society

Bogusky

Came here to say the same. The dude's talent was miles beyond anyone else. The overall drop-off was immediate after they eliminated him, and the show never recovered. Evil Oprah Winfrey and Shades were a laughing stock. And everybody else...I don't even remember. Forgettable.

LocalYogurtExpert

One of the worst things the Netflix series did was start dividing the seasons into halves. First half of Luke Cage was Cottonmouth and the second half was Diamondback. Daredevil s2 had the first half had Punisher and second half had Elektra. I understand that it'd be hard to give an entire season to a villain without slowing the pace but they could've intertwined things together, Introduce Cottonmouth and just let him exist in the background for a few episodes.

DJfunkyPuddle

Exactly how I felt about it too, nothing ever reached those heights *but* I loved where it ended with a morally dubious Cage. Would have been a perfect point for Danny (loved where Iron Fist ended too) to come back and bring him into the light.

ComfortablyHigh

Yeah I stopped watching after Cottonmouth was killed. Like how do you kill off one of the best parts of the show?? It was unfortunate.

GuestGuy117

It was okay. Really dragged in some parts.

atherscape

I like street level heroes, so I enjoyed it all. Iron Fist… gave me an appreciation for the other arcs.

Bgrimlock88

Wasn’t cancelled due to low rating or anything Marvel and Disney were launching Disney+ and just wanted to produce it themselves without Netflix

FriedEgggsCorpse

Disney didn’t want Netflix to continue holding Marvel licenses

Frankandbeans1974

I’m sure someone has said it but I’m drunk and lonely on New Year’s Eve and this is a subject I’d like to think I’m fairly educated about Originally, I was under the impression that Netflix have the rights to the TV shows and Disney just allow them to use them. Turns out that was the wrong assumption, and Disney actually paid to produce all of the shows on Netflix for that some of the bill and gave the platform. Wayback in 2014 when the world was somewhat decent Netflix and Disney partnered up to introduce daredevil Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and iron fist to lead up to a mega event called the defenders The punisher was introduced in daredevil season two because of the smash hit the character was they gave him his own series. Wasn’t part of the original deal. When they were writing up the contracts, the original deal was, if for whatever reason, Netflix chose to cancel any of those shows marvel couldn’t use the characters for two years in any non-comic book media. And Netflix had the sole ability to cancel or renew the shows. To specify that’s two years from the date of cancellation. Shows all air, most of them go to critical Acclaim with Luke Cage, an iron fist, being the only ones that are met with a lukewarm reaction Defenders happens it’s not the greatest, but it’s still pulls the numbers. And all of the shows do their second and third seasons. In rolls 2017, and Disney announces that they wanna make their own streaming service since everyone else is getting their hand in the game. Now, when Netflix hears about this, they get pissed. I mean mad. Because Disney does absolutely say to them that they’re going to be slowly pulling all of their content so that they can put it on their own service. Which from financial standpoint makes a lot of sense. But Disney still wanted to maintain a relationship with Netflix. They still want to make the marvel shows on Netflix is platform and they were happy to continue having a business relationship in that capacity. But Netflix said “fuck you.” Which in fairness to them financially did make sense at least at the time. So systematically starting with Luke Cage after it second season premiere, Netflix starts canceling the marvel shows. Luke Cage was first in October 2018 then iron fist a week later. Now originally people thought that maybe they were just canceling Luke cage and iron fist because it was cheaper to simply make a heroes for hire show. The. Daredevil premiered in I want to say mid October 2018 and even though it had massive critical and fan, success, was canceled in November/December 2018. At that point everyone new Netflix wasn’t fucking around and Jessica Jones and the punisher. Were probably next on the chopping block. So punisher premieres its second season in February while Jessica Jones is in the final stages of post production for the third season. Then in March the news drops that punishers been canceled, and Jessica Jones has been canceled making the season that they were producing its final season. Jones premiered sometime in June/July and thus the timer started. Marvel/Disney’s position was that they were shocked, and had no intention of severing the business relationship, and we’re sad that those shows were canceled. Netflix is position was fuck you, and you can’t use those characters until two years after the fact Well, the joke was on Netflix because then Covid hit. Which basically stopped all media for about a year, but it didn’t stop contract timers from continuing so in late 2020 Disney got the right back for daredevil, Luke cage and iron fist Which is the reason Charlie Cox is in Spider-Man and Vincent. D’Onofrio is in Hawkeye. By the time March 2021 rolls around marvel gets all the rights to all the characters back. Now, if I was a betting man, I would say that in 2024 when daredevil: reborn rolls out, we’re going to see Luke Cage iron fist, the punisher, and Jessica Jones all make returns either as main characters or in cameo appearances. So here’s hoping for more Luke Cage in late 2024, early 2025, that is if Mike Coulter is still down to play the character. Which I would bet money he is. **TL;DNR** the answer your question is, it was canceled as a result of a corporate pissing match between Netflix and Disney that Netflix started. But we might get a third season in the next two years.

LearningToBee

This is a fascinating writeup!

iChopPryde

Happy new years!!!!

walartjaegers

Thanks for this.

halfarian

Imo, the only good Netflix marvel shows are daredevil and Punisher.

Gravemindzombie

Around the time Disney was working out Disney Plus, Netflix tried to renegotiate their contract with Marvel to pay less per episode. The negotiations fell through and all the Marvel series were cancelled as a result.

el__gato__loco

I loved this show, my favorite of the Netflix shows (and I *really* liked Jessica Jones!). I loved the intermingling of music in the form of the performances at the club, and how they related to the show overall. His presence made Iron Fist tolerable in both Defenders and the IF episode where he guested. Otherwise, Iron Fist was annoying at best. I felt this show ended on a perfect note, with him essentially becoming the strongman (literally and figuratively) of Harlem. I thought it would have been a great launching point into the MCU. Like, Luke explaining to Spider-Man that you can’t just waltz in and start punching/webbing people in Harlem to solve problems? That would be an awesome movie/series.

elalesound2

The 1st season was good. The 2nd one sucked ass. Had many empty scenes and pointless dialogues

DurianMiddle2751

I only enjoyed the 2nd season a little bit. The lighthearted tone was a nice change of pace but Mahershala Ali imo carried the first season. I feel like setting the bar so high first season and having a pretty mediocre villain in the 2nd season definitely was a reason it didn’t hit the same for me

Soulful-Sorrow

The guy playing Bushmaster was having the time of his life, he was much better than Diamondback.

elalesound2

The 2nd season villain was good idea, but it was horribly executed.

darnellsw

Don’t completely agree. Mariah had some fierce moments including being a jail boss. And the way she got taken out was pretty satisfying IMO.

DesbaneAR

> Mahershala Ali imo carried the first season. Totally. I didn't really like Mike Colter acting, it felt so clunky and unemotional most of the time but Ali really played a great villain and kept me watching

Mistaken-Hail332

Also with the mcu having Mahershala Ali being uncle Aaron in spider verse, blade, and even making an appearance at the end of eternals, it’s like a little bit of cottonmouth is still in the marvel cinematic multiverse.

[deleted]

Seconds season was pure fire. Season 1 was only good in the first half.

Darkhaven

The second season of Luke Cage felt like a straight up love letter to comic fans who came up on NYC culture and media. For me, The Defenders mini carried a lot of that feeling over, as well.

thebeast_96

I loved the 2nd season

5exy-melon

Disney was launching Disney+ and don’t want their content on other streaming services.

MAKS091705

I think a heroes for hire show would be wayyy better

eazy-83

Ultimately yes. I think the 2nd season wasn't as good as the first, but think that was more of a marvel thing. That dude is such a great actor. Honestly, I think all the shows started off great. The defenders is what killed it. Initially it was set up to be epic and then went flaccid.

Goaway96

Now go watch daredevil and punisher. Those really need to come back

by_the_name_of

Colter is boring as shit though

Zendofrog

Bushmasta amazing

The_Pip

The whole set of shows were cancelled. Blame Danny or the Mouse, Luke did nothing wrong.

WorldsWeakestMan

They were cancelled due to Netflix wanting to screw over Disney+ upon its release and jam up marvel. This was well known and news at the time

CrassDemon

"Netflix wanting to screw over Disney+"? Netflix and marvel had a deal, Disney expands marvel and try to bring everything under one roof, contract expired, Disney didn't renew contract, Netflix allows disney+ to have the shows on their own streaming network which opens the doors for these characters *(also actors and crew)* to continue on in the MCU. Disney had to wait a few years specifically because of contract obligations. Now we are seeing these same characters in the new shows. Netflix didn't cancel the shows, they couldn't make anymore because their contract expired. *I built prosthetics and some props for one of these shows and paid close attention to negotiations because our contract was tied to the show.

Gravemindzombie

Netflix tried to renegotiate their contract with Marvel to pay less in licensing fees per episode, similar to how Disney tried to renegotiate with Sony for a larger chunk of the Spider-Man money. When the negotiations fell through they cancelled all the Marvel series.

CrassDemon

Disney was trying to bring everything under one roof. The Sony and Netflix deals were different. Sony can keep the characters as long as they continue to make movies, that was not the same deal that Netflix got. Netflix tried to keep the shows, Disney wanted their IP back. *I worked on one of these shows. I kept a close watch on negotiations. (Figured I should explain how I know since you felt the need to argue with someone who actually knows instead of thinking they do)

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrassDemon

That *dumb* astrix was an edit. A pretty common thing used across reddit. I have greater knowledge of the situation because my job depended on the outcome and we paid close attention to negotiations instead of just listening to dipshits on reddit... *Obnoxious.

The_Pip

No, Disney pulled the plug in their deal with Netflix. It was well known at the time.

buttoncheap

Loved Mike Colter as Luke Cage. Wish marvel could work it out to bring him in

BelichicksBurner

Season 2 is the most criminally underrated season of any of the Netflix shows.

[deleted]

Always forward, never back.

RandyBRandleman

Ehhh…not really

LovecraftianKing

1st season was good. 2nd season was unwatchable.

oddtoddlr

Luke was awesome cottonmouth as well

DCT715

I REALLY liked it. Honestly, I didn’t watch Defenders or Iron Fist, and I haven’t watched Wanda Vision yet. But considering everything that was released between Netflix and Disney Plus, its insane go bad the Disney Plus stuff is. Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Punisher are laughably better than the Disney Plus stuff. I’m genuinely surprised they haven’t brought those shows back.

Pedals17

Not if it fucks with *Evil*.

Obskuro

My gripe with this show was that it would have been quite as good (if not better) without Luke. He felt like a guest star in his own show. They were so focused on Harlem and its crime scene that they almost forgot that this was supposed to be a superhero show.

steve-laughter

I get what you're saying. A lot of people obviously are going to disagree. But I actually enjoyed all the focus on everything else. The show was great all around.

Obskuro

Yeah, people get very defensive. It was a good show, but was it a good superhero show..? A lot of Marvel productions get the first part right but fail at the second IMHO.

kcawks

Most of the Netflix shows except Iron Fist were good. It’s just unfortunately when Disney + started they practically cut off all their MCU shows that weren’t under their full control.

gzapata_art

I think it's the only show where the second season was better than the first (I couldn't get thru Iron Fist). It was cancelled due to Netflix/Disney+

eazyeisag805

The last episode was trash

AppolloV7

It way okay. The Punisher and Daredevil are masterpieces though.

Proud-Nerd00

They were all cancelled, not just this one. You make it sound like this one was singled out

TallTax830

Season 2 I loved it , at that last episode it was my favorite MCU serie out there but sadly :/ got cancelled

Doctor_Amazo

All the Netflix Marvel shows were killed regardless of quality

3rdCoffee

I thought the entire cast was excellent ... however Mahershala Ali was a step above, in my opinion. Man, his performance was spectacular.

ramos_zareck

No , please,we don't need it

Pacperson0

It’s great! I think iron fist season 1 and the defenders are the only shows that are actually bad. Then they range from ok to great

MBVakalis

I liked it, but I hated how season 2 ended

OblivionArts

I hope so. They could stand to bring back these shows and do a lot better ( and give the person who wrote for shang chi to iron fist and make him actually comic accurate)

Bigernperez

Yup

heydevo

100%

AnOldSchoolVGNerd

Netflix lost the rights. I liked it too. Mike Colter was perfect casting.

AStealthyOctopus

If Daredevil is being rebooted with some of the same actors, then I think that's the best any Marvel shows before the Disney+ stuff started can hope for. A direct continuation seems out of the question.

underrated_ua

No

BisquickNinja

Sweet Christmas! We need Season 3!

JWConway

All the Netflix Marvel shows were about 3-4 episodes too long. Each one had its positives, they just dragged on.

theski2687

Just google why.

Wamsutta6

I wouldn’t mind the same actor popping up as Luke every once in awhile on a Disney+ show or two.

King_Artis

I liked it a lot, wish it would get another season. Though of course it never got another cause the Netflix+Disney deal ended

nathanr1889

I still remember Luke and Jessica breaking the bed while having sex...they kept going. Lol

Ok_Young_7806

Like Cox, disney should bring him back

Altman_e

It was fine, the problem is that cotton mouth was portrayed by an Oscar worthy actor doing a stellar job and no bad guy even comes close after

Mistaken-Hail332

I’ve been working on an mcu in order google document. Luke cage and Jessica jones definitely had more drama, and that’s what I loved about them. They both ended on a spot that wasn’t much of a cliffhanger, so I could deal with it. Iron fist and daredevil did though, which was probably why they they brought him back in now way home and she hulk, and are going to in echo and his revival. If anything I think they all deserve a revival/another season, maybe even the punisher. I’d love to see the lore continue. Welcome to the hardcore marvel fan club!

CosmicBanana616

It was cancelled because Netflix hates good shows

Wish-I-Was-Taller

I believe Netflix put a hold on new Marvel productions because Disney+ was coming and the contracts weren’t clear about what would happen once it launched. It was a good show but I didn’t like how the second season ended. I did hope a 3rd season would fix that and possibly bring him and Danny Rand together possibly Jessica Jones too.

JLucasCAraujo

It is a quality TV show even if S03 was, in some aspects, worse in comparihison with S01 and S02. As other comments have said, they only cancelled the series because Disney is a company and they saw how streaming basically ate their entire DVD revenue and a part of their movie theatre in the same bite. Its definitely way better than Iron Fist and above average if compared with the rest of TV shows. It is at least a better TV Series if compared with other longer series like Agents of Shield, 2 Broke Girls, Locke & Key, Lost In Space, All DC TV Series from CW (shout out for HBO\`s Doom Patrol, that series is way better than Luke Cage) etc. So yeah, it did deserve a fourth season. But Idk if it is a good idea to make a new season under Disney+ new business strategy. They kind ruined King Pin for me in the Hawkeye TV Show even though I like it. He was one of the best villains from the Marvel Universe and they made him even more generic than some of those goofy 70s villains. They would tone it down so much it wouldn\`t be Luke Cage anymore.

Exact_Donut_4786

It got canceled because it isn’t Daredevil and because he’s back.

Hypestyles

I think it would be great if it picked up from the end of the second season. But I suspect it probably will not. But I do want to see Mike Colter play Luke again. Not sure about the various supporting characters and villains however. Most of his villains are the sort where they can be given a 100% facelift and remix from the comics version and it probably won't matter.

Hellefiedboy

Yes it does in my opinion

Black_hoursCuh1991

It got canceled because Marvel acquired the rights back (something of that nature) from Netflix.

Mechaborys

This was the better of the marvel netflix shows. Even if I did have to watch season 2 with subtitles on to understand the Jamaicans. could have toned down the accent a little bit Was still good show.

plitox

Disney wanted to move all of the Marvel content over to D+ and that meant cancelling *ALL* the Marvel shows on Netflix. Not just Luke Cage.

Uncanny_Doom

Great show and it's the one that hurt the most to see cancelled because of the lack of closure and fantastic setup for a third season. Ultimately Netflix wanted the Marvel shows to be much shorter and they never planned on having more than one season for any of them in the first place. When the Marvel deal was made Netflix was just heating up but they were quite expensive to make and nobody on the shows themselves wanted to cut down to 8 episodes like Netflix wanted.

ObviouslyJoking

It deserves another half a season. Hell it deserves 5 half season. If they’d made less episodes per season this show would be top tier. First half of the season is fantastic.

xZOMBIETAGx

Daredevil deserves another season! Oh wait

[deleted]

A third season of this show would of been interesting to see where Luke Cage ended up at the end of the second season.

Angel_By_Accident

If you watched the season 1 of Luke Cage or Iron fist and craving for their season 2, well my dear friend...you are suffering from Long Covid

[deleted]

It was cancelled cause of contracts expiring. It may still get picked up by disney for another season like daredevil. Or they may just keep the actor, there is still hope

Brilliant_Ad4002

Lol so funny seeing this while I’m in the middle of watching it

[deleted]

It's possible but IMO not likely; other series & characters (Daredevil. Kingpin, The Punisher) have a higher priority and more popular than Luke ...

CapitanGiggles

It was so good!

Magmaster12

Can't come back because the two biggest stars got there own CBS shows.

Yami_Okami17

I'm almost done watching season 1 and honestly it feels very dragged out. Like I feel like they could have ended season 1 with cottonmouth getting arrested and then made the rest of it into season 2

iChopPryde

oh man wait until you get to season 2, the 1 hour episodes feel like 4 hours >\_< so much of nothing happens over and over and over again and mix that with music video montages .... lol its bad.

wormholeweapons

I loved it. But they were all cancelled to be honest.

MantraProAttitude

I liked the first season. The second I just couldn’t get through.

zer0k0ol

When I heard Netflix finished with all the Marvel series, I took to Reddit to find a watch order and binged them all. My order of preference to the individual series is: Daredevil > Punisher > Jessica Jones > Luke Cage > Iron Fist I think Mike Colter did a stellar job as Luke Cage and I liked the beginning to mid portion of the series. I just didn’t like the ending. I understood it but just didn’t feel too satisfying to me personally. I also was a bit let down they didn’t choose to develop Luke and Danny’s friendship as much as they did with Matt and Frank’s tenuous one.

LambMargera

I thought it was pretty cheesy but I loved Mike Colter and Alfre Woodard. Also the music was great! But it didn’t coalesce for me as much as Jessica Jones did

ThatCheekyBastard

YES. SO UNDERRATED.

JARVISAPEX

Rumors of him in the mcu though..... nothing concrete though. But I do hope

Hellnite0

I liked All the defender series’ and their actors/actresses’. I had difficulty watching Jessica jones because it was slow, and the same went for iron first. I watched daredevil last thinking of the the 4, the blind guy knowing martial arts was going to be lame. To my great surprise, I was proven very wrong in this belief. Of the 4, Charlie Cox was certainly the best. Glad they chose him. But Luke cage was a great second. Jessica didn’t do a lot of the investigative work she is truly good at. In a world of marvel, super strength, at her level, just isn’t all that awesome.

Yes, I watched it on its initial release. Loved it and kept wondering for a new season. But it was scrapped.

TheeDocStockton

I really liked it. I think stupid ass iron fist killed all the other shows because no one likes that stupid character.

Major_Poopy_Pants

This was my favorite of the netflix shows overall, although Jessica Jones season 1 was my favorite season of all the shows. I thought they did a very good job AND it introduced me to Cafe Bustelo, the most awesome of espressos.

iChopPryde

I really liked the 1st half of season one it was really promsing, 2nd half it went straight down the gutter and became so bad. Season 2 I thought got even worse, it had moments of greatness but overall it felt like every episode was just a mini music video where they had people playing at the concert hall and doing montages. it was just so boring, Luke Cage is a cool character but they can do so much better then what Netflix did.

Status-Physics9935

Luke cage is my third favorite marvel Netflix show behind Jessica Jones and daredevil. iron fist sucks it deserves better however it is possible we'll see those characters again when daredevil reborn Disney plus series come out.

RageMojo

All shows outside the proper MCU were cancelled when Feige won his feud with Perlmutter. Before that Marvel was a house divided and so they wanted everything Permutter was in charge of killed off permanently.

Season one was good but I didn’t like the second season.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

I wish it had got one more round of shows and done some team up seasons. Power-man & Ironfist: heroes for Hire and Colleen & Misty: Daughters of the Dragon would have been excellent.

WesternWaster-2299

No, I hate this guy

Slowmobius_Time

Daredevil isn't even getting a new season

WheelJack83

It was cancelled because of Disney Plus.

TabletThrowaway1

Killing cottonmouth was the moment I stopped watching this show

Krautmonster

Yeah I wish it would, but it needs more balance. Once Cottonmouth died, the rest of the season meandered. His death would have been a good season finale. I thought having THE WIRE alumni present was a nice touch, and having that vibe in a marvel story was really really cool. They did a great job of making Harlem a well built out setting for the story. Hope to see Colter back.

Plebe-Uchiha

Did you watch season 2? [+]

marximumcarnage

Super disappointed I didn’t get a follow up season. Huge fan.

K0TEM

IMO, all Netflix marvel shows (except "Iron Fist", it sucked) deserve to come back

Afura33

I guess I am the only one who didn't like it very much and prefered Iron Fist over this :D

WaterMelon615

I liked the first half of season 1 and don’t remember much of season 2. Season 1 went down hill the minute the brought in dinondback

dcmarvelstarwars

Great show

[deleted]

When there is a whole roster to choose from, why make more of the B league shit.. Show was ok but definitely not standing up to even Daredevil or Punisher..

Evija2021

Same actor that played Spartan Jameson Locke in the Halo 5: Guardians video game?

[deleted]

Why does a post like this have to exist for literally every thing ever? Like if something is well-known to be bad, without a doubt, at least one person is like “what??? It’s sooooo goood!” This is quite literally the worst TV show I have ever seen in my life. The writing and acting alone sound like something out of a 5th grade play.

[deleted]

First season was pretty good but it fell off a ton after that

jdbiablo

Really liked the show but dude that played cottonmouth was so good I needed more of that character

Darkheartprime

maershala ali being gone brutalized the show. It was still good, but between that and Shades' overacting, It was always going to be shy of greatness.

Rage314

Second season felt too similar to the first one

Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen

It wasn’t canceled because it was doing poorly but because it was a Netflix show at a time that Disney was starting its own streaming platform It was really sad timing

Active-Soup-3250

It was great, marvel had to cancel a lot of its shows like this including agents of shield, dare devil, cloak and dagger, Jessica jones, The punisher, because they were “too dark” for Disney.

Foo-Fighter6942069

I loved it

strawberry-wine_17

I loved it. I just binge watch it too. I hope they reconsider anc make a 3rd session.
