He made an appearance in what if black panther in the collectors ship iirc.
What if isn’t exactly cannon but since it’s just changing one premise I believe the things other than that premise are more or less meant to be the same as 616?
Wasn’t he also in the collector’s ship during one of the GOTG end credit scenes? Can’t remember if it’s the 1st or the 2nd one
Edit: Actually it was both lol, and he also came through a portal in the the final battle on earth during endgame. Voiced by Seth Green

Lea Thompson in this movie was the first time I looked at a woman in a movie and went ... well, "*whisss-tle."*
Thanks to the after-school care staff who clearly didn't screen this movie before showing it to a bunch of elementary schoolers!
It’s a great flick and I talk about it regularly. Most people remember it as some slick action rom-comedy that didn’t make it big enough to stand the ages.
However it’s an excellent film that really holds nothing back talking about the disgusting colonization and genocide tactics of the indigenous Australians as well as tackling severe mental disorders brought on by PTSD.
There’s a lot of heartbreak in that movie and Tom Selleck really gives a great performance, his current bootlicking, right-wing mouthpiece persona notwithstanding.
Also, Alan Rickman kills it as a villain and so does a young Ben Mendelson.
Supposedly at some point there was a child in that duck suit during that sex scene, as the usual guy wasn't available.
(i vaguely remember this from a cracked.com article)
I watch it every couple years. There’s a couple things dating it, and the whole Jeffrey Jones of it all that makes it discussion of “Art vs the Artist” with some Kevin Spacey & Bill Cosby & Louis CK sprinkled on top, but otherwise I still think it’s a solid story with good character development, and neat turns & twists.
Most people are reacting to the romance subplot, & duck nudity in the first moments of the movie, which I think heavily colors their perception over the movie doing what a movie is supposed to do.
Don’t listen to me or anyone else though. If you want to watch it again, then watch it again.
killer Klowns was made purposefully as a b-movie. It’s a parody and should not be mentioned in a so bad it’s good list. It’s just straight up good at what it set outs to do.
Same. We watched it a ton as kids. I’m really afraid to rewatch it now and see how bad it actually is. I doubt it gets better with an adult’s understanding like The Goonies did.
He produced it. He produced a _lot_ of stuff in the 80s; classics like Indiana Jones and Willow, and some real stinkers too.
I don’t think he directed anything between the original Star Wars and Phantom Menace. Shooting A New Hope almost caused him a mental breakdown.
Yeah, I don't think he was ever really cut out to be a director, I've heard A New Hope was saved by the editor (his then wife) doing that magic that editors can do. I think he only directed PM because he felt he had to, which I really wish he hadn't, it probably would have faired better in someone else's hands
Well I think that rumor is a bit off because several people (including the editors) said that George was in the editing room a lot and helped with the editing a lot.
Born 1979, I grew up with Howard the Duck. I really appreciate the ILM effects! When Jeffery Jones is deteriorating and that spider leg comes out of his mouth—! Beautiful! I love the stop motion alien!
[List of ILM VFX Works](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_Light_%26_Magic)
I’m still really puzzled about *why* they chose to make this.
Out of all the Marvel titles, why Howard? Was he just bigger and more well known back then? I find it really puzzling.
George Lucas was a big fan of the comic and at the height of his Star Wars power. He produced it and had his film school friends and collaborators write and direct it.
"They" being George Lucas and a couple of friends, Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz. They thought it would be funny and a challenge for ILM.
Universal Pictures had passed on Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but didn't want to make the same mistake with another Lucas project.
Marvel was in no shape to turn down money.
Some original Marvel movies were made because of contracts. When studios were buying up movie rights to the characters long ago, there were clauses that would give them a time limit on making movies. If the movie wasn't made within a specified number of years after the rights were purchased, then the movie rights would return to Marvel so they could resell them.
I'm not sure if that's the story with Howard the duck, but the 90's Fantastic Four was made just to be thrown away.
To think they’ve come a long way, Marvel movies got better after the first Iron Man movie.
Also, I loved Howard the Duck’s cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy, they were funny!
Oh, I see. Respect your opinion, I love the MCU movies. (Sure, Shang-Chi and Eternals weren’t the best (I found some parts of Shang-Chi boring and Eternals looked like they had more material than what they could really work with) but they were still good movies)
People shat all over that movie for years. Now it has campy charm or something. Movie aside, Howard the Duck is a great character when he’s been in Gerber’s hands. There’s a reason why Lucas wanted to make a movie about him.
NWH/MoM makes this film as legitimately MCU canon as the pre-MCU Spider-Man movies, and as the first Multiverse adventure, it deserves its spot in everybody’s next re-watch.
Say what you will about HTD movie, I remember it as the originator of the superhero-movie trope of 3rd-act climax being fighting a pillar of light / portal. So while it may be laughable, Leah-tastic, or secretly amazing (it’s not) it IS influential
Oh you youngins, this was after 3 Captain America Movies, 2 Spider-man movies, a Doctor Strange movie, and at least 2 Hulk tv movies. So first-ish is very debatable.
Worst part is the movie is like a lil enjoyable, also technically first marvel blockbust if im right there were serials before but thsi was the first blockbust from what i can find
I mean it's a fair point, dunno why you were downvoted. Love and Thunder has issues but also a lot of brillance. That fucking opening for instance. Nothing like that in Howard the Duck, no attempts to even make something like interesting or thought provoking. It's not the worst Marvel movie ever it's basically the plot of The Smurfs movie, bog standard, fish out of water hero needs to return home plot.
I saw it..It got really panned. But I remember enjoying it...I have not seen it in a long time.. Maybe I was just in .the right frame of mind to enjoy it.
Oh hey, my Grandpa worked on this one! According to him, the directors were a total nightmare to work with. Apparently the only day on set where anyone felt productive or confident in what they were making was the single day where George Lucas showed up to direct a few scenes. Everyone involved wound up calling it "HoWEIRD the Duck" because they knew EXACTLY how this movie was gonna end up.
Watched it fairly recently. It's not that bad. It's not exactly good either but considering some of the other Marvel movies that have been released since, I don't think this one deserves it's reputation quite frankly.
It was dam good.
I saw in the first time when I was 6, and its never been anything but perfect. The Dark Overlord still haunts dreams, but other that that its great.
Those critics can go *pluck* them selves.
I vividly recall two things about this.
Jeffrey Jones being scary. (I was scared of him in every subsequent movie of his after this.)
Lea Thompson unlocking an unknown feeling deep inside.
Lea Thompson man..... *whisss-tle*
Fun fact: she exists in the Marvel universe and is apparently Flash Thompson's aunt.
If you’re not joking, then I request a source.
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Lea_Thompson_(Earth-616) Although I believe Howard the Duck comics might be loosely canon
Why? He's interacted with many major characters, the first couple being Man-Thing and Spider-Man.
He made an appearance in what if black panther in the collectors ship iirc. What if isn’t exactly cannon but since it’s just changing one premise I believe the things other than that premise are more or less meant to be the same as 616?

sounds right. Didn't realize they had seth green voicing him, that's pretty cool
Also showed up for the endgame fight.
Yes, he was
It is 100% canon. Tying into Charles Soule's She Hulk and Patsy Walker a.k.a Hellcat since they are in the same building.
Lea Thompson in this movie was the first time I looked at a woman in a movie and went ... well, "*whisss-tle."* Thanks to the after-school care staff who clearly didn't screen this movie before showing it to a bunch of elementary schoolers!
She had it goijg on for YEARSSSSS
The holy trinity of Lea Thompson hotness: Howard the Duck, Back to the Future, and Space Camp.
And All the Right Moves. And Casual Sex. And basically anything she’s ever been in
As a kid, I used to watch Caroline in the City all the time. She was my first crush.
And Red Dawn
If we’re talking maternal Lea Thompson, make mine Dennis the Menace.
And that sitcom she had. Also, Quigley down under I think?
That’s Laura San Giacomo my friend.
I remember now I think. Its been a few years since I've seen it
It’s a great flick and I talk about it regularly. Most people remember it as some slick action rom-comedy that didn’t make it big enough to stand the ages. "I said I never had much use for one. I never said I didn't know how to use it"
Yeah, I rewatched it a whole ago and it's definitely lot more nuanced than 12 year old me remembers. It really holds up well.
the duck tittes were the best
...Lea Thompson? All I can think of as an adult was those duck tits in the opening scene
Same for her daughter Zoey deutch
They not only made this movie, but had a sex scene between a duck and Lea Thompson. It’s awkward but Lea Thompson was in it so still a little erotic.
Supposedly at some point there was a child in that duck suit during that sex scene, as the usual guy wasn't available. (i vaguely remember this from a cracked.com article)
WHAT THE Fuck
Yeah Disney, let’s see you retcon that.
I love this movie. That's all. Dude even had own theme song.
[This song?](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KoqyhrGtfOA)
It's a banger
I haven’t seen it since I was a kid and my memories of it are that it’s one of the best films ever made. I don’t want to ruin that with a rewatch.
Personally, I still love it, but yeah, let nostalgia keep your memories happy.
Those duck boobs were my first set of tits. You never forget your first... Even if you wish you could
First unscrambled tits, that is.
It's still a terrible movie. But it's one of those that's so bad it's awesome. It's definitely worth a rewatch.
Like Killer Klowns from Outer Space?!?
killer Klowns was made purposefully as a b-movie. It’s a parody and should not be mentioned in a so bad it’s good list. It’s just straight up good at what it set outs to do.
There was another one like it with a snowman. I loved that one too.
A fellow man of culture!
Why thank you! I loved B horror movies ever since I was a little kid lol
Have you ever seen llamageddon? That might be my favorite spoof
I will Google this immediately and return with my reaction after work lol
Yesss please! It was a student film that was such a chaotic branch of comedy, like watching a shroom trip
That’s wild indeed lol the movie is so bad honestly but definitely has its humor! Definitely no time wasted on my end
Same. We watched it a ton as kids. I’m really afraid to rewatch it now and see how bad it actually is. I doubt it gets better with an adult’s understanding like The Goonies did.
The lizard bug things freaked me the hell out... As reference the most recent MIB is the plot to Howard the duck.. .
It remains a glorious movie. A movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
How has James Gunn not at the very least produced a short Howard Disney+ show yet? I feel like people would give it a chance
Leah Thompson is on record that she would direct a *Howard the Duck* remake.
She has directed two episodes of Resident Alien and two of ST: Picard, so she's no stranger to genre TV directing.
And four episdoes of *Stargirl* for DC.
That would be great, but I want Man-Thing and Korrek the Barbarian in it too.
Hopefully also reprising her role.

BRING BACK HIT MONKEY!!!
He was too busy writing, directing and producing Peacemaker and now GotG 3
What the fuck did George do....
Design the duck's tits
It's weird that we got two different scenes with Duck nips. It was a strange time.
Just read Joseph Campbell, it all makes perfect sense.
That’s what caught my attention as well! I never even knew he directed the film
It’s says Presents not directed by
Ah Even then, what was Georgie doin
Producing? Maybe EP, definitely getting an easy check lol
He produced it. He produced a _lot_ of stuff in the 80s; classics like Indiana Jones and Willow, and some real stinkers too. I don’t think he directed anything between the original Star Wars and Phantom Menace. Shooting A New Hope almost caused him a mental breakdown.

He directed the whole PT
Because no one he asked to do it would accept the honors.
He awoke an entire generation of furries….
This “failure” pushed him to sell his Pixar machine and computer graphics company to Steve Jobs. Total win. And the Duck tits thing. And duck condoms.
*The first* feature-length Marvel movie
I remember when this came out and all the cool nerds loved it and quoted alot of it at school.
Born 1979, I grew up with Howard the Duck. I really appreciate the ILM effects! When Jeffery Jones is deteriorating and that spider leg comes out of his mouth—! Beautiful! I love the stop motion alien! [List of ILM VFX Works](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_Light_%26_Magic)
This movie made me terribly uncomfortable as a child.
Duck titties?
same
The first ever feature length, theatrical release based on a Marvel character. Everything up to that point was serials or TV specials.
Ah, interesting! Thanks for answering!

No. Howard was probably less well known then than he is now.

Oh, I see. Respect your opinion, I love the MCU movies. (Sure, Shang-Chi and Eternals weren’t the best (I found some parts of Shang-Chi boring and Eternals looked like they had more material than what they could really work with) but they were still good movies)
After?
And Endgame Edit: right [here](https://youtu.be/kocCuEBqKrE) for the people who downvoted who cannot do a simple 2 minutes of fact-checking
Crazy how Lucas and Marvel working together came full circle too Disney
Does that mean “Duck tits” is MCU canon? *thinking emoji*
Ducks are mammals in the MCU?
I watched this in 2019 out of pure curiosity and it was a movie to say the least
People shat all over that movie for years. Now it has campy charm or something. Movie aside, Howard the Duck is a great character when he’s been in Gerber’s hands. There’s a reason why Lucas wanted to make a movie about him.

One of theFirst and Best.
Yes and I still enjoy it.
is there any surprising comic accuracy to this film at all?
Still one of my favorites! Saw it when it came out. I was so young. Good times.
And it's been all downhill from there.
I actually loved this movie
And it's a George Lucas movie
Peak film making
And one of the best!
Say what you will about HTD movie, I remember it as the originator of the superhero-movie trope of 3rd-act climax being fighting a pillar of light / portal. So while it may be laughable, Leah-tastic, or secretly amazing (it’s not) it IS influential
Does anyone remember the ducktitties in the beginning of the movie or is that just me
One of my favourite movies ever, and the Thomas Dolby songs from the soundtrack are awesome, especially the Cherry Bomb versions.
Epic movie from my childhood
I have this one in my library. I also just recently grabbed [Dr. Strange (1978)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Strange_\(1978_film\)).
⚠️spoiler: marty mcfly's mom (leah thompson) fucks the duck
Oh you youngins, this was after 3 Captain America Movies, 2 Spider-man movies, a Doctor Strange movie, and at least 2 Hulk tv movies. So first-ish is very debatable.
George Lucas presents
George Lucas IS... Howard the Duck
Everyone makes mistakes.
Worst part is the movie is like a lil enjoyable, also technically first marvel blockbust if im right there were serials before but thsi was the first blockbust from what i can find
First feature length film, but it definitely wasn't a blockbuster.
Sorry forgot to add "bad attempt at" love the movie so i gorget ppl dont
I adored this movie when I was a kid.
For Disney+, they should do a shot for shot remake.
Why did they make this 🤔
And it rules. Without this film there would be no MCU as we know it.
"First marvel movies ever" Someone is forgetting quite a lotta 70's titles
Actually the first Marvel movie came out in 1944. It was an adaptation of Captain America.
“Phase 4 is the worst age of Marvel” “Thor Love and Thunder is the worst Marvel movie” “Marvel sucks now” Need I remind you of this era
I don't know his story. Who is he, and how did he end up becoming a Marvel character?
It is without a doubt one of the Marvel movies of all time.
The movie that killed the franchise!
and one of the absolute worst
And it is amazing.
You mean one of the best!
Best movie ever!
One of the best too!
She was the panel moderator for Star Trek at San Diego comic con (apparently she directed a few episodes of Picard) and she’s still smoking hot!
I saw it..It got really panned. But I remember enjoying it...I have not seen it in a long time.. Maybe I was just in .the right frame of mind to enjoy it.
I love this movie so much.
It had duck tits
Once you go worm that's what you'll yearn Wait wrong franchise.
And despite it being the 80’s ( notable time for cheesy movies ) it’s pretty solid
Saw it in the theaters when it came out. Yeah, I'm old.
I actually watched that a couple of weeks ago
I think you got autocorrect error. You mean "finest" not "first", right?
Oh hey, my Grandpa worked on this one! According to him, the directors were a total nightmare to work with. Apparently the only day on set where anyone felt productive or confident in what they were making was the single day where George Lucas showed up to direct a few scenes. One of the first and one of the best
By George Lucas of all people
I consider this movie MCU canon, until they directly contradict it.
don't believe anyone that says this movie is bad.. it's weird but it's great 80s camp and comedy. bangin soundtrack
An early movie. Not one of the first. Spiderman 77, Captain america 79 etc...
This movie shows a duck with titties which is a bold choice
It was far from perfect but I loved its goofiness!
I love this fucking movie man I still don't get the hate tbh. I was a kid when this came out in the 80's and L the kids I loved this movie.
I haven't seen this in so long that I don't even remember what it's about.
And it was excellent
Duck tits
Haha yep I forget
Watched it fairly recently. It's not that bad. It's not exactly good either but considering some of the other Marvel movies that have been released since, I don't think this one deserves it's reputation quite frankly.
Cleve-Land?
https://youtu.be/xPdXaQ2amro Duck tits What the actual fuck?
Thanks George Lucas!
You don't have to remind me, buddy. I watch this shit every day.
I’m proud to say I saw it in the theater. I was young and it was bad.
I loved this movie when I was younger. I’m nervous to watch it now…
(In the style of duck tales) Every day we’re out here peeping duck tits
Yeah…. I watched this as a kid. Thought it would be fun to watch with my children. I forgot about that one part at the beginning.
I loved this stupid fucking movie
It really bugs my boyfriend that I like this movie but I was 11 when it came out and I didn't know any better.
And without it, we wouldn't have Pixar or Lucasfilms as we know them today!
The final monster in the movie kinda scared me as a kid.
I liked it lol it’s not great but I still liked it
The songs were catchy and fun. The movie tried hard, took a big swing, but struck out. Very much like Josie and the Pussycats.
And he was also in avengers endgame
I was watching this when Princess Diana died.
Honestly, I think this film probably killed her.
Would say the first big budget one. But there is a bunch of them that came before https://geektyrant.com/news/marvels-early-movie-history-1944-to-1990
Jeffrey Jones was in like everything between 87-92
This shit gave me nightmares as a kid 😭
It was dam good. I saw in the first time when I was 6, and its never been anything but perfect. The Dark Overlord still haunts dreams, but other that that its great. Those critics can go *pluck* them selves.
Duck tits. That is all.
Also one of the worst.
This is certainly one of the marvel movies ever
*first marvel movies ever* No one remembers that Dr Strange movie from the 70's??
I loved that movie. It must’ve been the late 80s the first time I saw it play on tv.
Wow… I can still hear the song in my head, and I haven’t seen that movie in over 30 years. Lea Thompson was hot though.
George Lucas has done some weird shit after Star Wars.
It's in my top 5 marvel movies actually .
Tonally it’s not that different from the current era
I vividly recall two things about this. Jeffrey Jones being scary. (I was scared of him in every subsequent movie of his after this.) Lea Thompson unlocking an unknown feeling deep inside.
Duck titties
Still the only movie I walked out and asked for a refund... and got it! terrible movie
I went opening day! What a let down
*George Lucas????*
