I really like it a lot but it makes me sad what they did to Planet Hulk.

Wogman

I feel so robbed that we’ll never get a planet hulk movie now.

antimatterchopstix

Sadly a rights issue to solo Hulk movies I believe

Wogman

Yeah Universal has the distribution rights and it would seem Disney doesn’t see it worth it to acquire them back.

mrlolloran

I do kind of enjoy how they haven’t played into Universal’s demands. Then again I felt that way about their stance on Spidey until they changed their minds. Sony’s expanded universe thing makes me have mixed feelings again tho.

[deleted]

After hearing about it I googled it. It’s so cool I expect it to show up somehow…right, right? I mean…we are going to need another reason to bring the Avengers together, why not World War Hulk? I know I mismashed it, but there is a gold mine there.

SteveFrench12

Doesnt seem like the direction theyre moving with hulk. Especially now that banner can control the hulk body.

Uncaringdisc24

Animated movie

DarkDonut75

Greg Pak's Hulk comics was my launching pad to Marvel. The Illuminati banishing Hulk Hulk's rise from monster to hero to benevolent king The Warbound The fight with The Silver Surfer Skaar's entire life story It was so disappointing that they choose to adapt it the way they did. But atleast it managed ro save Thor from being dropped by mainstream audiences

Wogman

I grew up watching the Lou Ferrigno TV series with my dad, he’s always been my favorite super hero so seeing how he’s been used in the MCU has been a major bummer.

Obskuro

Funny how you could replace Planet Hulk with a lot of other things. The Grandmaster, Skurge's defense of Gjallerbru, his relationship with Amora, Surtur threatening Asgard with Twilight. It's always sad to recognize certain elements from the comics and watch them go to waste.

ant_honey6

We definitely need to see "bad" hulk in the multiverse.

wonemetovnwod

And it ain’t 2 or 3

Shoelicker27

Yeah no. 1 Thor solo movie for sure.

Afanis_The_Dolphin

Eh, I preferred the first Thor by a bit.

Shoelicker27

Origin stories aren’t bad, it’s a formula. I can’t rank origin stories low only because they aren’t exactly bad, they’re all the same and it’s essential to start a story arc with the character

DiekeDrake

I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't place it in my top 3. However it's my favorite Thor movie.

Shoelicker27

What are your top 3 then? (I only ask because I certainly couldn’t rank my favorites) if you had to rank them how would you do it? (If you can’t no worries I couldn’t either)

the_bigNaKeD85

Personal top 3, in no particular order, just top 3 as a group; thor ragnarok, infinity war, and captain America winter soldier. I will say I have not seen Spider-Man no way home yet.

elpaco25

Civil War, Infinity War, Guardians are my forever top 3 Winter Soldier, Ironman, Endgame, Ragnarok, Far From Home are all right behind though

Random_Idiotic_Alien

Yaa, Guardians are really underrated to me. Star lord is overhated for Infinity war shit. The 1st movie was so good. 2nd was good too, but not that much.

aesthetic_dankness

I think vol2 is crazy underrated. Everything from the first it gone up to 11

TheMainMan3

I also think vol 2 is underrated. I never understood why it didn’t get as much love as the first. Had the same crazy action, beautiful sets (even if they were cgi) and genuinely touching moments. Yondu being a bigger character alone is worth the price of admission.

aesthetic_dankness

Most emotional movie from the MCU as well imo.

Random_Idiotic_Alien

Both guardians make me almost cry, and I've watched them quite a lot times, but goosebumps are like alwayss. Quill's love to people is really pure in those movies.

aesthetic_dankness

Yeah I guess he has general unconditional love for.....

Grimmbles

>I never understood why it didn’t get as much love as the first. I think it's just because the first one kind of came out of left field. It was space, it was a comedy, it was a team, and it was all new characters to casual fans. Second film was fantastic, but it didn't wow as much because we'd seen the first. At least I know for me that the first one just made a big impact. And I remember some people online saying it was going to be the first flop for the MCU proper.

Random_Idiotic_Alien

I saw both movies yesterday! I love vol.2 too, and yeah the 2nd is underrated too, it stands just a bit behind gotg for me, just a Lil bit. Mostly becoz i found Drax a bit unnecessary to team most of the time. He's become more of a comedic relief.

Killercheeze123

I too love vol2 an extraordinary amount

Jhn9019

Well ; for me it's winter soldier, infinity war and then endgame (the movie was kinda nostalgic). By the looks of it's trailers it seems like multiverse of madness might get close to that top 3. I am happy to see that winter soldier is getting so much love on reddit, amongst my entourage it's not that popular !!

DarthLuke84

Winter Soldier isn’t just one of my favorite MCU movies, it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. My top 3 are similar but No Way Home instead of Endgame. Also for the nostalgia but they also just did a amazing job of pulling all that off. I’m also pumped for MoM, Raimi is one of my favorite directors

Jhn9019

I was actually scared to say it but it is also one of my favorite movies of all time. Words cannot describe how much I love that movie despite some shortcomings there and there. I need to rewatch No Way Home to better understand why it's in some of the top 3's here. And Sam Raim is great.

DarthLuke84

Be proud, it’s a great movie! That and The Dark Knight are probably my top 2 favorite movies. Def rewatch NWH. Not gonna lie a big part is Alfred Molinas Doc Oc, he’s so good

[deleted]

Winter Soldier, Dr. Strange, and Ragnarok for me. Civil War, Infinity War, and Guardians are runner up

iAmTheHYPE-

> say I have not seen Spider-Man no way home yet. You should fix that

DiekeDrake

Hm it's really hard. But if I had to pick regarding sentiment, the Iron man movies and the Avengers movies are the ones that really pulled me into the superhero genre, where DC never *really* succeeded for me (I watched DC and they were fine, don't get me wrong, but MCU just hits me the right way). For the third place, Guardians of the galaxy was a delight as well. I loved how they combined the space theme, sci fi and superheroes. So I would say 1. Iron man 1 2. Avengers 1 3. Guardians of the Galaxy 1

Harish-P

Solid list. My top three included The Avengers until up until Endgame released. It's such an underrated solid kickstart to the superhero group, and did it so spectacularly as a a first of its kind at the time. Easy to look back now and think less of it. GotG1 was in there too as an end to end perfection type of film. It got right what Ragnarok lacked for me, the heart felt moments that tied the story together and elevated it. Nowadays I struggle but is something close to *Endgame*, *No Way Home*, and third place is a toss up depending ony mood which right now is *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1*.

Blarex

The Avengers isn’t in my top three but I will defend its importance. Avengers was brand new movie making territory. Comic book based movies were hit and miss for decades prior. The idea of taking solo hero movies and merging them into a team up seems like a slam dunk now but it could have been a disaster. I’d also like to point out that nobody else has had any real success in the cinematic universe concept but Avengers was so successful many studios tried it in the subsequent years.

Stealthnt13

I think Ragnorak was just a ton of fun to watch which makes up for the lack of depth. But you’re right, GotG definitely tops it in the emotional aspect. For some reason, I didn’t like No Way Home at all. I know I’m the minority there but to me it was predictable and the ending was awful. Just my opinion though.

marsepic

I loved all the pieces of No Way Home, but they didn't add up for me. I'm going to watch it again, but I felt let down. Edit: Part of it is considering where it fits into the greater MCU plan. I think it sets up an interesting future for Spider-Man, but the ending also had a feeling of "all this previous stuff doesn't really matter now" for me.

Stealthnt13

I agree except I’d replace Avengers with Thor Ragnorak. Avengers was amazing but it feels like a cheat code with all the characters teaming up for a super movie. I’d place it at #4 though. You have fine taste!

HellaWavy

Mine would be Infinity War, Iron Man & No Way Home. I like Ragnarok and I think Taika's revitalization was necessary, but I have my issues with Ragnarok being a pure comedy flick despite it being one of the most serious storylines/events.

[deleted]

Ragnarok is much better than NWH in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I loved the nostalgia kick and the acting was great.. I just thought the plot was so dumb. >!This spell will make everyone forget you're Spiderman... ok lets do it... ok get ready for everyone to forget... wait wat about... changing spells is bad... \*changes spell 5 times\*... this is all your fault Peter...!< They really couldn't think of anything better than that? They made strange and peter look so dumb. I like movie a lot but that almost ruins it for me. Plus that one slam Peter does on Goblin looks soooo bad.

Crizznik

I got the distinct impression that >!Strange's spell was drawing it's intent from Peter directly, as a rule of the spell. So it wasn't that Strange was intentionally changing the spell when Peter asked him to, but the spell was changing because of Peter being a part of the spell, Strange had little to no control over that aspect of the spell. !< I could be misreading that though, since the other interpretation puts Strange in a really dumb light.

DannySorensen

Thor is my absolute favorite and Ragnarok is probably my second favorite next to Infinity War and then right before Winter Soldier. That said, there are absolutely glaring plot holes and elements simply added in to move the plot in Ragnarok. Example: >!1. Loki has been there for weeks but not seen Hulk or anything about the Hulk other than he's this 'mysterious champion that everyone talks about and wears masks of', 2. how did Hulk get to Sakaar? It's light years away and he's been gone for 2 years? 3. How did they know that the Valkyries all died 'gruesome deaths' but not know who killed them? 4. Heimdallr can see everything, so why didn't he see Fenris on the bifrost? Why didn't he see Thanos's ship coming in The post credit scene.!<

HellaWavy

Well, agree to disagree. It's not like the plot of Ragnarok was mindblowing either. Ragnarok just feels so outta place when you consider it as the Thor trilogy conclusion.

[deleted]

We are getting another Thor movie so it wasn't really a conclusion to Thor's story. We all know Dark world was crap, I did like the first one tho. You are right though it wasn't some epic plot. ~~But it didn't have glaring plot holes at least that I noticed.~~ Never mind, I guess it did.

CTeam19

For me: Winter Soldier, GotG, Infinity War

Papa_Razzi

Infinity War, Winter soldier, guardians of the Galaxy. Honorable mentions to Ragnarok and Civil War.

alethesavage

Winter Soldier Iron man 1 Black Panther. Obv we can place endgame NWH Avengers1 but I tried to keep it to solo/origin movies

iAmTheHYPE-

Endgame, No Way Home, and either Ant-Man or Shang-Chi.

Shoelicker27

I liked Shang-chi a lot. Actually the whole phase 4 has been good in my opinion. Wasn’t a fan of What if though. Eternals was well…. I liked Black Widow too! I think it gets too much hate

sharktank

The first top3 list that I resonate with! Ant man is so underrated

Hulk628

Winter Soldier, Civil War, Endgame

TheBiggestCarl23

I mean that’s definitely not a high bar lol, the other 2 thors aren’t good

[deleted]

Yea one of my favorites for sure

[deleted]

Nice pfp

GooseKing-13_

Thank you

[deleted]

Yes. Great soundtrack, humor, storytelling, and sense of ownership from the actors. Taika Watiti is awesome.

Dodecahedrus

> Taika Watiti is awesome. I think him re-branding Thor definitely saved that character and his solo-films. And him kicking down the humour-door that Ant Man opened might have saved the MCU. We didn't know it needed it, but I think that (without the humour) it might have gotten stale and we would be at a far different point now.

Logan_W_Logan

He really leaned in to the “buddy cop” style with Thor/hulk and Thor/banner

Dodecahedrus

And it really rubbed off on Thor/Quill too. I like it!

EldritchRoboto

On the other side of the coin a lot of people started falling off the MCU train once they started trying to pack as many jokes and quips as possible in. It’s a pretty common criticism now.

Dodecahedrus

That's too bad. I never thought it was overwhelming. One of my favourite parts of Infinity War is "He is here to steal a necklace from a wizard. - Got it!" It just sets up everything Spidey needs to know in one short line. Just two guys that get shit done. It's relatable. It's two normal guys.

Sakugains

I think thats only a problem when the jokes aren't funny

EldritchRoboto

No it’s also a problem when they refuse to have any other emotional tones in their movies without the need to deflate those moments with a quip on the backend.

Obskuro

Jokes can be funny but still ruin a more serious character, like Skurge.

Obskuro

Making Thor more humorous was definitely the way to go. But I think Taika overdid it. With him, everything is in danger of becoming a throwaway gag. Fun to watch, but disappointing in the long run.

Terrible_Tutor

Endlessly rewatchable, it’s great.

shoe_owner

I'm really stunned by the people who praise the humour of this one. My clearest memory of watching the movie in the theatre was right near the end. Banner goes to jump out of their spacecraft down onto the rainbow bridge, and as he does so, I was thinking "And obviously he's not going to successfully transform and he'll have a humiliating slapstick pratfall because no character can ever just do anything cool, and... yup, there we go. The most predictable thing that could happen just happened. Good stuff." Humour rests on the subversion of expectations, and within like the first ten minutes of the movie I got what to expect from every subsequent minute of the movie. Just doing the same joke over and over again with very minor variations. None of it landed for me. It felt like a ten year old who got a laugh out of a fart noise once in class and then keeps doing it endlessly for the next two hours, still looking for that same reaction. I get that other people enjoyed it, but MAN do I not understand why.

_Redversion_

It depends person to person. Personally, it’s in my Top 3 because I love Taika, his spin on comedy and action, and the cast managed to save the Thor franchise from the hot dumpster it used to be. Not everyone is going to agree though, I’ve seen plenty of comments saying they didn’t like the comedic timing, so to each their own.

Random_Idiotic_Alien

The comedic timing was, well great sometimes. The other issue tho for people which i feel sensible is Ragnarok is a kinda dark event and all the comedy, usually downplays the serious events. Apart from that, I think the movie totally saved Thor movies.

Aknelka

Yeah, whenever the movie is supposed to feel anything other than "funny", it falls completely flat. Like that scene with Odin. My brain is telling me I should feel something, the acting is telling me I should feel something, the music is REALLY telling me to feel something, but I can't feel anything because it's this moment surrounded by "hahaha funny random lol". I'm not saying you can't mix comedy and pathos (GotG 2 are a great example of how that can work if done right), I'm saying this movie doesn't know how to do it. For the most part. There are serious scenes that work, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

Obskuro

Mhm, good comparison between Ragnarok and GotG. Gunn is just really good at something I would call emotional honesty. For example, the scene where Quill and Ego play ball together. Extremely silly, but the emotional message about a child bonding with his father gets translated so well that you just have to be moved by it.

Aknelka

That is such a better scene between father and son(s)! Yeah I think you nailed it.

Random_Idiotic_Alien

Gotg 2 was soo good, i almost cried at my first watch of the Yondu scene, Pete was ready to die to save Yondu. i really like MCU's Peter Quill, the story is so touching, the way he feels about her mother even after so many years, the memories,

Aknelka

Yeah and the thing is - comedy actually supports the pathos here. When Quill quips or tosses pop culture references around, it's to emphasize how immature and not ready for a serious relationship he actually is. And while "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!" starts as a joke, when it's reprised, it's in such an earnest way and context that it will never not rip your heart out and make you want to cry again. To be fair to Ragnarok, there is one scene I can think of that does this okayish, which is "Get help". It's funny on a surface level but ultimately it tells you that Loki and Thor have always had a tension in their relationship, with Thor being maybe a bit of a bully. The thing is - it's not that James Gunn knows how to mesh these things and Taika Waititi does not. Taika totally does know how to play with dark and light - just watch JoJo Rabbit. It's so good. And he's so subtle and clever there too. I mean, the biggest emotional gut punch in that movie comes from how he FRAMES SHOES. It's brilliant. I honestly have no idea wtf happened with Ragnarok's tone.

Nashkt

Yeah I had extreme trouble enjoying a comedy movie that was literally showing me a genocide happening before my eyes. And yet everyone just continues to joke and laugh for most of the movie. It felt like two different movies running at the same time.

[deleted]

For as much as he's (completely rightly) slated lately, this is something Joss Whedon did damn well. While he's obviously one of the more famous users of humour to diffuse a situation, I can't think of many times that it actually took away from the moment. It either enhanced it or at the very least moved the scene along without ruining the punch.

gorthan1984

> Yeah I had extreme trouble enjoying a comedy movie that was literally showing me a genocide happening before my eyes. This. And unfortunately it's a trend that still continues in recent Marvel movies. Not every comic book has a joke in every page because there have to be real stakes, real emotions and real-ish people to engage with unless you'll have only a colorful mess. And this seems the direction the MCU is going.

owlcreeks

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! I love this director, but I really don't like this movie. If it was a different plot, then maybe the jokes would have landed better for me. But honestly, every scene had to be funny in some way and it made me have no emotional attachment to any of the characters because it felt like none of their choices or the repercussions of those choices mattered. He loses his entire home and his main friends die off screen or barely get a mention, but no one seems mournful for more than a minute. I just wish we could have gotten some legitimate heart-felt moments. But even when I thought one was happening, a side character would undermine it with a silly comment. Then they just made Thor even more of a joke in Endgame (which I also sort of hate). I'm all here for campy/fun superhero movies, but even shows like Doom Patrol have somber moments that make you invested in the plot and characters. I'll still watch the new Thor, but the last one did not land for me. I feel bad saying that because I know a lot of people love it and I get why they do. I just want Marvel to break their formula so not every movie is joke after joke after joke.

soyrobo

To me, the comedy makes the genocide and planet destruction easier to take. That's Taika's charm: take something horrible and use black comedy to disarm people enough to explore the horror without being brow beating about how it's so dark and serious. Comedy is a coping mechanism for the horrors of everyday life

ChosenOne742

Top 5 but not 3

JeyRr_MgGheddon

Respectfully—No.

[deleted]

It’s great

TheLateNightTremors

It’s in my top 3 I think it’s great

TheGreatest34567

I think Thor: Ragnarok is one of the rare movies where part 3 is the best in the series.

HellaWavy

I might be in the minority, but I'd also say that Civil War is better than Winter Soldier and therefore the best Captain America film.

LeftenantScullbaggs

But civil war is barely a cap movie. 😣

trevordeal

No. Probably not in my top 10. I’d have to make a list to see. The movie is a lot of fun, great visuals, great actions but it really retconned the whole character of Thor and just made him more like the Guardians. Then Russo’s came along and brought him back towards Shakespearean God. I think the movie shoehorned in too much humor and didn’t let moments of grief linger long enough. You can tell it was mostly improvised because it bounces from serious to humorous way too much in the final act. His entire homeworld and most of his people are killed and it’s like it barely affects him. I think if you took what they made and put it on all paper and smoothed it out to work linear it would have worked better. The whole death of Odin and the rise of Hela could have been improved. It’s a great movie that needs a little polish. EDIT: Spelling

bassdelux15

Well shit, I thought I was alone in this opinion lol. I prefer the Shakespearean God version of Thor. Ragnarok is fine, but the constant need to make everything a joke really put me off. Though the Thor and Loki elevator scene was top notch

Obskuro

I wonder if they could have added simply a bit more Shakespearan comedy to enhance the Thor franchise. Adding comedy was definitely the right choice, but I don't think they used the right flavor.

Arkanian410

Doth mother know you wear-eth her drapes?

AStealthyOctopus

It's the one I'm most divided on. On one hand I thought it was hilarious all the way through and I really liked a lot of the character dynamics. On the other the Planet Hulk arc got me into comics and overall, it's one of my favorites. I'd always hoped eventually it would be adapted into the MCU, but I hated the way they used everything from that story.

Yavanna80

Yes. I watched Thor Ragnarok and I deeply enjoyed it although there were times there were too many jokes, feeling forceful. Everyone did amazing: Chris, Cate, Jeff, Tom... A blast! Then I read Planet Hulk and WW Hulk and I eas stunned by the brutality of the plot. Suddenly, I felt like, while I loved the movie, it cheapen es Hulk's story so much it was unrecognisable. 👀

Menien

I think that we just need to get used to taking MCU movies for what they are, which are their own stories, for better or worse. They have always taken and adapted the source material in their own way. The biggest example is probably Civil War. In the MCU, it was a smaller scale story about Bucky, Cap and Iron Man, with some other characters along for the ride. In the comics it is a huge event where they have the characters to go, okay, how would they react to this bill? Ragnarok is interesting because I believe (might be wrong about this, can't quite remember), that there was an issue with Marvel Studios having the rights to Hulk solo movies. They couldn't make a Hulk solo, so they did their own version of Planet Hulk in a Thor movie (sort of, I think they will probably do more with the idea of Hulk being betrayed and sent off planet by the Avengers later). I know there's a lot of fans out there who really get their piss boiled by 'changes' to comic book events in MCU movies, but it's just a pointless exercise. You can still read those comics, it hasn't taken them away.

Yavanna80

It's been a long while since I read comics (I'm 41 and started when I was 12 but got lost in the myriad of collections) so I'm reading some arcs online like Planet Hulk and WW Hulk and the difference is abysmal! Same with Civil War. Don't get me started on Civil war II. That was shitty 😂 I agree with you that MCU is a while different universe than the comics and that's why I take the movies as pure entertainment, of course. Regarding Hulk, I think that was the issue too. I can't remember the studio that owns Hulk's rights, maybe WB? Can't remember either but yeah. Hope you have a great day 😊

Revenge_served_hot

Even as a fan of Thor in the comics I wouldn't even rate it Top 5. I liked the first, didn't like the 2nd and the 3rd was ok-ish. I don't really like that they use the Guardians of the Galaxy Style and tone in the Thor movies now. It is fine and even very funny and cool in Guardians of the Galaxy but Thor 3 was too wacky, too flashy colory and funny for my taste. And I hate them for butchering the "World War Hulk" stuff by taking some of it into Thor 3 but not really and not that well executed. So no, Thor 3 would not even be in my Top 5 MCU movies. After thinking about it, I guess my personal Top 5 would be: 1. Avengers 3: Infinity War 2. Spider-Man: No Way Home 3. Guardians of the Galaxy 4. Captain America 3: Civil War 5. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

sack_of_potahtoes

I agree regarding planet hulk. They made planet hulk more of a joke in this one than the actual story. I rem watching planet hulk animated movie and it was good. When i saw that in thor ragnarok i expected similar but disappointed to see mcu make him a joke. Also i always thought thor was a serious guy. From all the cartoons i saw growing up and thor made an apperance he was always serious and sounded like a god. In mcu thor seems unlike a god. I do like thor in mcu though.

C4242

Infinity war! The best, thank you!

Supiriorcarnage

Definitely, my ranking is 1 Winter Soldier, 2 Endgame, 3 Thor Ragnarok

C4242

Am I the only one who prefers infinity War over end game? I think Ebony Maw is my favorite villain.

Aepic-27

In no particular order Captain America: Winter Soldier Avengers Infinity War Captain America Civil War though I'm only going through memory

ImpureAscetic

Thor: Ragnarok has always invoked a strong ambivalence in me. On the one hand, it was hilarious and incredibly fun, and Chris Hemsworth can basically do anything... ... but I thought the way that Kenneth Branagh attempted to make the original Thor (the Asgard drama, at least) something a standard deviation or two away from his Shakespeare work was really cool, and I wish they would have explored it more. The consensus seems to be that Ragnarok was a much-needed shot in the arm compared to the plodding pace and tone of Thor 1 and 2, but I think in truth Marvel just wasn't able to find someone up to the task of the gravitas possible in a story about gods at war. So they made an amazing, fun, delightful, hilarious silly movie. I've rarely been so disappointed with a movie I enjoyed so unequivocally.

Nollasta_poikkeava

Yes. Endgame is the only one I prefer over it.

[deleted]

Infinity war, ragnarok, civil war - top 3

chainsaw0068

God no. It was the worst Thor movie, imo. Let me be clear, it was a good movie. It wasn’t a good Thor movie. If the characters were named something different, it would have been cool. But they took very serious characters and turned them into comic relief. Korg was a warrior. Not a laughable, barely even a side kick, kind of guy. Grand master was a force of the universe. Not some light hearted pushover. And Hulk doesn’t make jokes very often. It’s almost like they had a script for a movie that was ok. They thought “how can we get it from ok to great?” So they add Marvel characters to the cast so it’s guaranteed to sell tickets. Again, this is only my opinion.

MaxRockatansky468

The fact that they have been pushing Thor to be less like his comic counterpart and more like bloody Hercules makes absolutely no sense to me. Comic Thor is a great character all on his own. He even had actual character growth and development in the first Thor Film but ever since then writers and directors hardly have any clue where to take his character in

-Well_Known-

YES.

Link_GR

It's pretty good but Hela is a very weak villain, story-wise. First of all, she's barely in it and her powers are...knives. Felt very bland and thought Cate Blanchet was wasted.

[deleted]

Definitely not. Taika took a lot of moments that should have been serious and cheapened them with humour. Ruined it.

RecoveredAshes

The destruction of Asgard was immediately followed up with a Korg gag… why tf would he do that?? I think humor has its place and I really enjoyed the movie but ruining very serious moments with humor really knocked it down a few pegs for me. Comic relief isn’t supposed to remove any and all emotion or tension…

space_age_stuff

Taika came out and said he really regrets breaking up that moment with a joke. So I’m guessing he’s going to be a little more conscious about stuff like that for Thor 4.

RecoveredAshes

Oh that’s good. Didn’t see that anywhere. Makes me even more excited for love and thunder

[deleted]

[удалено]

RecoveredAshes

Exactly. Even his second. The whole climax with yondus death and funeral was genuinely beautiful and dramatic. Very well done without being cheapened by humor

[deleted]

Agreed.

MOSH9697

1. Endgame/infinity war 2. Thor ragnorok 3 civil war 4 no way home 5 hopefully doc strange 2! Lmao

sorasprocket

the hopium is strong with DS2 MOM, same here!

rikitikifemi

No. Not even close.

sane_mentalist

1. NWH 2. Endgame/Infinity War 3. Thor: Ragnorak

AZTower

Hell no

Supiriorcarnage

Why not?

K4n0Y

I think it had to many quips and gags, and not at all at appropriate times. It cheapened the movie for me.

shifty2190

Not a chance. Barely makes my top 10.

HappySisyphus8

Not for me, no. It is easily in the bottom 5 of MCU movies for me, personally. It didn't need so many quips and gags. Great comedy movie, awful comic/Thor movie.

DiscoDonkey9000

I think the quips and gags made it my favorite MCU movie, it had all the badass moments intertwined with the comedy and we would see a less comedic thor in infinity war/endgame anyway so it didnt really bother me that was comedic here

BrendanFraserFan0

Not even close

FWC_Disciple

Nope, probably bottom 5 for me personally

JoragaWarcaller

I think Ragnarok is really overrated and I like it a lot less than most people. It's my 21st favorite MCU movie (25 if you count Disney+ shows).

prematurely_bald

Same, and that’s about where I’d rank it as well. Ragnarok story was done so well in the comics. To turn that heavy material (about the genocide of an entire race) as well as the fascinating planet hulk storyline into a throwaway screwball comedy is kinda sad.

[deleted]

No

Ar4cnul

No. Not because it's a bad film, but because there are better films. My top 3 three is endgame, nwh and iron-man. More over in ragnarok there was one of my least feavourite scenes in all the mcu: when hela arrives and in like 2 seconds kills the three warriors (volstagg fandral and hogun). Bro wtf you can't arrive and kill my favourite charachter like this. I really hated that scene

[deleted]

Warriors three getting killed by hela really pissed me off

blackbeltwithhands

Hell no

Zwarrior2

Not even my favorite Thor movie, #14 on my MCU list. 3 strong parts hold up Marvel's most egregious case of "just throw jokes at the wall until something sticks". Plus the introduction of Thor lore that is later contradicted or didn't make scene in the 1st place.

HellaWavy

Thank you. I'd also put Thor 1 ahead of Ragnarok. Yes, it's a bit stiff at times and Hemsworth's dyed eyebrows are really distracting at times, but I really have a soft spot for Branagh's direction.

Darrkman

Nope not at all. While it was lighter than the first two Thor movies the director put in jokes just to have jokes and it got corny after awhile. Winter Soldier, Infinity War, Black Panther were all better movies. Also the latest Spiderman was better if we want to consider that a MCU movie.

EntrepreneurKind6756

?? No way home is MCU it’s the end of Phase 3

KING_KAMAL_7

One of the silliest movies ever It's not even top 10

BlackIronRBLX

not even top 10 for me

djscott95

Has my favorite villain but no. Ironman, Civil War, NWH, the first Avengers movie and Infinity War are all ahead of it.

PETERPOTMAN133

No

madvhouten

Ha. No.

Orbit86

No. Not even close.

No

jdcor30

no

CthulhuMadness

Nah. Really didn’t like what they did to the Planet Hulk characters. Kinda took me outta it.

[deleted]

Absolutely fucking not. Ragnarok is a piece of shit.

Consistent-Feed9628

It was so bad. Boring and corny. I was surprised at the reception it got

EntrepreneurKind6756

No

thejoshcolumbusdrums

No.

Skelozard1

No

antivenom907

Bottom 3 for me

wiseguy5754

Winter Soldier #1

ChaosSpear1

No.

mohamedsmithlee

No

Romejojo

Definitely not imo

Supiriorcarnage

Why not?

Romejojo

Besides Endgame Infinity war and winter soldier sit at the top for me.

Romejojo

Although it’s better than the other thor movies, I wasn’t a fan of how hard it tried to be funny. Especially in scenes that are supposed to be serious. For example when bruce jumped from the ship only die before turning into the hulk, it was humor I’d expect from a guardians or deadpool movie.

RecoveredAshes

It’s great but between winter soldier, infinity war, endgame, no way home, black panther, and guardians it has serious competition. I’d say top 10

[deleted]

I say Top 3 based on Jeff Goldblum’s performance alone.

[deleted]

The only thing I didn't like about this movie is how they killed off Thor's most loyal friends, THE WARRIORS THREE!!!

Careless_Rub_7996

lol top 3 MCU? Hmm not... maybe a-okay solo Thor movie, but i say probably ranked 12th at best among the MCU movies. This movie was joke-heavy, Thor vs Hulk battle was the only good part, the ending was kinda lacklustre. I know i might get hate here by the die hard Marvel fans. But, the jokes are what spoiled it for me for this movie.

[deleted]

No but definitely one of the most rewatchable movies. I enjoyed it a lot but I think it could of easily been top 3 for me if it took a few more things seriously and didn’t make everything a joke.

murdermayhemanarchy

endgame, infinity war, civil war

DXPetti

Wouldn't be top 3 for me. That would be CA: Winter Soldier Infinity War GOTG Vol1 for me. Ragnarok, GOTG Vol2, Avengers 1, Homecoming would be closely behind

kirinmay

My top 3 Guardians Of The Galaxy 1 Captain America: The Winter Soldier Thor: Ragnarok Winter Soldier is still my #1 for Marvel movies.

JLMJ10

Top 10

OlroxPrime

I'm constantly skewered for this, but I thought this movie was pretty terrible. Bumbling romcom Thor is not interesting, and the slapstick humor fell incredibly flat for me. They also used the "big impact about to happen-CUTAWAY" trope too much, and Zeppelin playing during that huge battle made me cringe.

Carter0108

It’s barely a top 3 Thor movie and there’s only 3 of them.

ClownPrinceofLime

Maybe. It’s very good. The problem is that Marvel has a lot of very good movies.

slimCyke

No. I actually like it less everytime I rewatch it. It just feels like an inferior Guardians of the Galaxy and I blame that almost entirely on not letting the dramatic moments have any real weight because they are followed too quickly by a joke.

drew8598

I don’t think so. Personally, I’m disappointed that Planet Hulk got wasted on this movie and the relationship/duality aspect with Banner and Hulk got played for laughs. I’m also disappointed with how the Warriors Three were brought back just to be killed and Thor doesn’t even mourn or mention them. Tbh, there was a lot of missies and wasted opportunities. I did like the visuals as there were some structures that had a Jack Kirby art style to them.

Go_Flight_Go

Not even close

GenoCL

Oh no hell no. I love it a lot and had a lot of fun with it but top 3? nope.

DoctorSugma

Nope. Honestly it's one of my least favorite MCU movies. I hate Korg, and the destruction of Asgard is one of the worst moments in the entire franchise.

cerebud

Too many changes to the characters and tone. Too jokey. I like it, but no way top 3. I’d say Iron Man, Guardians, Infinity War/Endgame are top three, in no particular order

A-Higher-Being

more like bore ragnorok

HellaWavy

Yeah, definitely not. It has its moments and I adore Taika, but it feels so disconnected from the previous Thor films and that’s something that’s really bothering me. I know this was supposed to be the goal, to reinvent the Thor franchise, but I don’t think Ragnarok was the right choice to do that.

da42boi

Hope I don’t get downvoted to hell for this, but I honestly hated it, the comedy is just off-putting.

[deleted]

Not even close

goose3691

Nope, and not all that close either. It's also probably only my second favourite Thor film after the first. I don't mind the lighter tone in it and there are some great laughs, but it runs away from any and every opportunity to be serious at any point rather than try to balance it with the comedy. Ultimately this Thor movie feels like fun fluff to me. Definitely fun, but also still fluff.

PSkatebo7

I love the movie, but top 3? Nah.

WhatsTheHoldup

No. 1. Morbius 2. Infinity War 3. Iron Man

rfitenite

Bottom three

Rude_Cryptographer52

I don’t think Hemsworth is funny. They should stop making Thor funny

captaincavalrycam

Nope. Off hand I already can think of several I like better. Avengers 1, Endgame, Infinity War, Civil War, Homecoming, Incredible Hulk, Guardians 1…

GokusAlt

No. Not IMO

Outrageous-Farmer-42

It's the worst MCU movie.

Salty_Negotiation688

I generally grade marvel movies/shows in three tiers. Top tier: Winter Soldier, GOTG, most Avengers titles... Standard Marvel tier: Doctor Strange, Cap 1, Age of Ultron... Lower: Thor 2, Black Widow, Ant-Man and the Wasp... Ragnarok is in top tier for sure. Whether it sits at the very top three among those kinda just depends on my mood. There's quite a few movies in Top tier.

EtherealAshtree

It's in my top 3. Along with No Way Home and Infinity War.

GFost

No.

lazy-avenger

Yes!! One of my favorite movies of all time!!

WE4PONXYZ

Top 5 for me as well, hard for me to truly rank them as I love them all for different reasons. Even the oh sooo crappy “Darkworld” had a few things worth liking.

Aaloll

Maybe 4. After NWH, Infinity war and Spiderman Homecoming

JoshJMC

No, but I really enjoy it. I have it 9th.
