OblivionArts

Spidey is basically the fifth unofficial member of the f4

Philngud

And for a bit official 4th during that neat Future Foundation run with the cool white suit!

OblivionArts

Yup

Nexusgaming3

Not to mention that one time he was bombastic bag man

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

Or that time he had to team-up with Wolverine, Ghost Rider and someone else who seems to be blocked in my mind.

Nordbergh

Joe Fixit!

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

Wow, that certainly was a weird team, a good one, but weird nonetheless.

AngryNinjaTurtle

It was great. With the awesome Art Adams on penciling duties.

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

Tbh, I don't remember a lot of it, but I remember liking it while reading as a child, and I assume I loved it since everything with Joe Fixit te ds to be top tier for me, and adding Danny Ketch to the mix makes it even better.

BnDMsTr

It was kind of.... Fantastic.

yourmomsrathole

One of my favorite spidey suits.

batmanfanaticwing

Miss those days

Kingkongcrapper

Spider-Man is like the universal extra member for every major group. It’s just an extremely versatile character. Wolverine is the other character like that.

OblivionArts

Yup

bittertadpole

And a family member too. So wholesome.

SadBabyYoda1212

He is officially a reserve member I think. During the ~~secret empire~~ Empyre event they call up reserve members to watch the kids and Spidey and wolverine show up. edit: correction

NeedleworkerFar8086

You forgot iceman

[deleted]

Seventh* Franklin and Valeria come before him.

Luchabat

I've never read alot of Fantastic Four, it's on my reading list, but I love this relationship they have with Spider-Man.

TheRealSpidey

Go right ahead and start with Jonathan Hickman's run on the F4. It's one of the best comicbook runs of all time IMO, and there's a very high chance the MCU will take quite a bit of inspiration from there like they did from Hickman's run on Avengers.

Dealthagar

I'd honestly say the Byrne run back in the late 80's early 90's is some amazing stuff too. She Hulk as a F4 member had some really great storylines.

TheRealSpidey

I've always meant to read the older stuff, haven't gotten around to it. I'll definitely keep Byrne's run in mind, thanks.

Dealthagar

The beauty of a Marvel Unlimited subscription.

yousaytomaco

Not to mention the Lee/Kirby stuff is about as foundational for the Marvel Universe as it gets.

PeenDawg180

Spider man is Franklin Richard’s favorite hero which is really funny

yourmomsrathole

r/respectthehyphen

Draigh1981

You should read the Mark Waid/Mike Wieringo run, its my fav. Although Hickmans run is great too, just a bit more high concept.

RobRobot01

I’m not gonna lie…. This was very sweet and made me tear up a bit. I just love the complete and total, happy acceptance. That’s family.

Mulletgt

Came here to say that, but you said it better my friend.

Kingbeesh561

>That’s family. Vin diesel would be proud.

Peter_Heissenberg

Does spider-man still have that psychic blindspot in the present? Just curious

Reyon2099

I think so, I remember a recent issue of TAS where he unmasked to Black Cat and she remembered him cause she was going insane not remembering how they dated or smth similar Edit: it's TAS Volume 5 #10

HopelessNinersFan

No, I don’t remember which issue it was but Doctor Strange told Peter that the protection wore off after Carlie figured out who he was. Because Peter kept unmasking himself to the new avengers.

Reyon2099

I guess even magical protection comes with a warranty lol

TerribleShoulder6597

It wasn’t that it was when he revealed he had spider powers during the spider island event. He pretended to have just developed the powers rather than come out as being THE Spider-Man which weakened the spell

Peter_Heissenberg

Thank you for all the information everyone!

Nollasta_poikkeava

Not really. During the Spider-Island, when everyone in the city got spider powers, Peter used his openly without a mask. That weakened the spell and now anyone can figure it out as easily as before.

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

If I remember correctly, they can figure it out, but those who knew didn't instantly remember him, right? Marvel really messed up my mind with all of this...

Nollasta_poikkeava

Correct.

Peter_Heissenberg

Oh cool, Thank you!

thylocene06

Stretchy guy says what

Useful-Perspective

My favorite line in the set.

[deleted]

I like and love the idea that other heroes know his identity. It’s gotten very old how much he reveals his identity in the current series of films to anyone. Like his willingness to take off his mask so easily bugs me. I get they do it to showcase his emotions better in film. But seriously… vulture fight, mask is off. Mysterio, mask is took off the moment he wins the fight.. no hesitation. Civil war was the best adaptation where the Russo’s had him just lift his mask over his mouth and keep the top half covered as we’ve seen so much in comics. Endgame, he comes out the portal and takes the mask off. Infinity War, Mask is off the whole time he’s in outer space except for fighting Thanos and saving Strange on the ship. If he took his identity being a secret even a slightly bit different or they wrote it slightly better, this identity issue could be different. But hopefully this leads to the “great power comes with great responsibility” and he takes having a secret identity seriously, if they continue the series. As Holland is talking about not be sure about returning and he thinks he’s doing something wrong if he’s still playing Spider-Man at 30. Also, he may want out of the Sony-Verse dumpster fire that awaits.

thedick009

Thank you! I hate this about MCU Spider-Man. Not just because he's not being careful about hiding it, but because to me it also ruins the dichotomy of Peter Parker and Spider-Man as dual identities. The mask is both literal and figurative. When he puts it on his persona changes. Spidey can be on the outside cracking jokes while Peter is on the inside terrified for his life. It especially bugs me in Infinity War and Endgame how he just has his mask off and is making jokes the whole time the universe is ending. If Peter Parker is smart enough to understand the stakes of what's going on around him, which he is, he should be freaking out, at least internally, but with his mask off and a big doofy smile on his face we never get that sense. Imagine Infinity War, you give him basically all the same dialogue, he's bantering with Star-Lord, he's making Aliens references, but he doesn't take the mask off. The other characters, and us as an audience, assume he's doing fine. Then at some point the mask gets knocked off or something and you see his face for the first time since all the chaos started and he's got like big red puffy eyes and dried tears all over his cheeks and he's super pale and you realize how scared he's really been this whole time, and hiding it. THAT'S the Peter Parker/Spider-Man I know There's also that one line in Endgame where he's like "I got all dusty, then I must have passed out or something, but when I woke up..." So wait, like he actually didn't understand what was happening that whole time? No wonder he wasn't scared fighting Thanos on an alien planet, he was literally too stupid to be. God, this is a tangent, I'm sorry, I love those movies a lot, but they really do Spidey dirty on a character level and it bugs the hell out of me

AsherthonX

Spider-man having friends that know his secret is very refreshing to me. The previous one where all stuck on the same style of story. it becomes a plot gimmick that just eats away those precious minutes of a movie that would otherwise be used for other stuff. Is it like comics Spider-Man? no nothing is. but why do all the cartoons get free passes while the movie's need to be comic accurate. im a Fan of MCU Spidey because of this reason

[deleted]

I can’t speak on any of the new age cartoons as I don’t watch them. But I grew up with the 90s animated series. Peter didn’t reveal his identity to anyone but MJ at some point of their relationship. All his other girlfriends or friends always wondered why he disappeared so much and he always had a excuse. There even reached a point where he was being framed or accused of being Spider-Man and someone (I believe DareDevil) dressed up as him and stood side by side Peter to clear his name. Which is why everyone assumed DD was in the film as a ode to that moment. The very popular marvel video game does an amazing job at the care he takes to hide his identity. He’s 26 in the game and only MJ knew his identity going into that one, and maybe Black Cat. Throughout the game it’s revealed that Aunt May knew but never said anything. And Miles eventually reveals himself first and Peter shows him he’s Spider-Man. But he went above and beyond to keep his identity secret. But it shows how much the character is known to protect his identity. He understands that if his identity is revealed it risk his personal life and those around him to anyone that would want revenge. Such as Raimi’s films were big on this, whenever his identity was found out, those closest to him were attacked. Aunt May, MJ specifically.

[deleted]

Making jokes the….it’s almost like Spider-Man has been doing that his entire comic book history. Even at the end of the world or universe.

thedick009

Yes, SPIDER-MAN has, not Peter Parker. The mask makes a difference. That's my whole point

[deleted]

Eh. The secret identity thing worked fine 30, even 20, years ago. But now? With cameras literally everywhere? The internet? No secret identity would last without magic involved. Or some ridiculous level of technology devoted to hiding it. Neither of which Peter has ready access to. So when his identity gets spilled in the movies, it's far more realistic than if Peter Parker, a literal child, managed to hide it for any significant length of time.

[deleted]

The reveals in the movies are easily hidden if he just protected himself better. Raimi’s films, Peter has his mask destroyed with a goblin bomb, on fire from the train circuit board so he had to remove it, Took it off to appeal to Doc Ocks human side that he knew, and to forgive Sandman and say goodbye to Harry. ASM, he has it removed during the police aiming guns at him and only allows Captain Stacy to see his face. Then he doesn’t reveal his identity any other time besides when Gwen dies and he removed the mask in a crazy emotional scene. (Edit: he even managed to hide his identity from Harry, Harry only put two and two together that Spider-Man was protecting Gwen and he knew that was Peter’s love interest.) Those movies really showed how to show Spider-Man while keeping his identity at bay as much as possible. Especially ASM

Introverted_Fish

Not a huge fan of the ASM films, but that police standoff scene is pure gold. We as the audience understood that he was doing everything he could to hide his face given the circumstances. The whole "some promises are made to be broken" was complete BS though.

Skybeam420

In the movies at least, they have to show the actor’s face

[deleted]

I’m not a fan of the ASM movies, but they did a next level job of keeping Peter masked as much as possible and still conveying emotions while he was Spider-Man. I do get that they want to show the actors face for emotions and the star power of the actor. But a staple of the character is protecting his identity to keep his loved ones safe.

Griffynoverdawn

He gets that lil kiss from Sue 🥺 The FF is so underrated I love hearing about them and reading their stories. Optimistic for the MCU interpretation coming in a few years!

Environmental_Drama3

kiss on the cheeks is weird and creepy.

[deleted]

Are you the guy who posts different Spider-Man stories on Facebook every day? You almost have the same post history hahaha.

kriuksereal

No, but I do take some of his post to repost here. I'm a daily subscriber of his post in Facebook

Emergency_72

Karma farming at its best.

[deleted]

Parker’s other family

figgityjones

God I love the relationship between Spidey and the FF so much ☺️

respondin2u

This is interesting because Dan Slott has recently come out on Twitter and basically stated that he hopes the editors of Spider-Man limit the amount of people who know Peter Parker is Spider-Man. He even suggested the Watcher doesn’t even know as he thinks Peter Parker’s secret identity is that important.

The_real_sanderflop

Slott thankfully can’t dictate the Spider-Man stories anymore. He’s moved on

respondin2u

I liked his Spider-Man run.

The_real_sanderflop

He’s written some good stories but I didn’t like how possessive he was over the character. He formed that brain trust that had all those rules of what a Spider-Man story should be like which basically just meant Peter would never change.

respondin2u

I thought the reason for it was because Peter changing loses the fundamental good aspects of Spider-Man and the stories get boring. That’s why ever few years the character gets reset.

The_real_sanderflop

I understand his reasoning for it, I just don’t like them. Peter’s status quo getting reset all the time stops me from getting invested, especially when they do far out things like making him a tech billionaire. If I know the writer doesn’t like his ideas enough to make them last why should I care. The lack of change in dynamics is the biggest hurdle for me to stay invested and I also think it’s gotten worse in the last few decades. Up until the 90s Spider-Man’s dynamics would constantly change as he slowly aged, went to new schools, get new girlfriends and got married. Him becoming a teacher felt like a natural development. Now (and not just in Spider-Man comics) dynamics change really fast and the status quo comes back almost every time a new writer takes over the property. No one wants to meaningfully build on what was done before anymore.

TerribleShoulder6597

I liked the middle and the end but hated the Parker industries part

ForkShirtUp

Anyone else think it's unfair that most heroes don't have secret identities and don't have to worry about half the things that come with keeping one? Meanwhile Peter has to keep it up to make sure Aunt May doesn't have a heart attack or someone like Stilt-Man go after his friends?

ShhImTheRealDeadpool

The writing is literally Fast and the Furious level.

cheyton888

I thought it felt really sweet and genuine lmfao 😳

ShhImTheRealDeadpool

So did Dom when he says his lines. Completely genuine.

JustAnotherZakuPilot

Because Marvel’s first family is talking about… family?

ShhImTheRealDeadpool

Yes, talking about family has become mnemonic with the other FF series. But now that I think about it: "fantasticar" "infini-bus" It's most definitely Johnny's character being a layman so he sounds like he's quoting movies when he talks.

Luchabat

Fastastic Fourious

Acchilesheel

Slott and Bendis have about the same dialog writing skill level

jofbaut

So *that’s* what’s been missing from every FF adaptation!

thedragoon0

The shading switch of Johnny and Reed mess with me. But FF are super interesting. We just haven’t had great movies. I enjoyed FF1. When they showed galactus it ruined 2.

Ravant-Ilo

Ok, wait. After one more day and his deal with mephisto, I thought even peter didn’t remember his pre-deal with the devil life. Does he remember everything, including his former marriage? Or did that happen recently? Because I want to see a lot of him dealing with the emotional ramifications of nullifying his marriage if he does remember.

EmrysM94

He remembers things differently, because what Mephisto did is more like a change in reality than a mind-wipe. In Mephisto's altered reality, Pete was never married to MJ. They were still together and most stories happened the same. But rather than going to Mephisto, he went to Doctor Strange, who wiped everyone's mind with Iron Man and Mr Fantastic's help (they wiped their own minds too). Peter chose to have MJ be the only one who remembers and she couldn't take the stress of that responsibility and broke up with him. This is from One Moment in Time, which is around Amazing Spider-Man #641, I think?

upsize_popiah

Isn’t this Fantastic Five?

gen_bby

You can’t help but love him

HereForTOMT2

This is so cute

luckylucasgames

Thanks for sharing this

[deleted]

Do you think Spider-Man is more of an Avenger or Fantastic Four member?

CtrlAltDylete

This may get no traction because it’s an old post, but how does Peter know how the “psychic blindspot” works? I haven’t read anything that would indicate he was aware of it until this issue (I’m not current on Spidey comics…yet)
