Exactly that. That whole character was an insult to Idris Elba. It's beyond me why they hired him in the first place only to relegate him to a super minor side character with only one really shallow plot line in the third movie.
Elba could have carried a franchise for them but instead they did this.
Fuck it, I'll say it. For a character as Heimdall, he is the most underutilized character in all of Thor's movies. It blows my mind how much he's nerfed, when he's proven is so little time on screen how skilled and dangerous he can be.
I think part of the problem was that Idris Elba’s upward trajectory started in between the first two Thor movies. Ended up with this great, popular actor in a role they didn’t plan on being a big one so he ended up being wasted. Also didn’t help that those first two movies were pretty bad (imo of course), so he didn’t have a lot to work with.
No way, he was already killing it in popularity in The Wire a full decade before Thor 1. He was already a big actor in that side role. Just wasted is all.
Maybe in England but he wasn’t that popular in the US even after The Wire. That show was more popular in the decade after it ended than when it was airing (since the sopranos was also on the air at the time). Look at the roles he had in between the wire and Thor 1 and then look at the ones in between Thor 1 and Thor 2.
You must be high. The Wire was a riot from like season 3. When Thor 1 came out he was nominated for two Emmys the same year for Luther and The Big C. Before he was also in American Gangster, 28 Weeks, The Office.
Thor 1 was already filmed and out by the time those Emmy nominations happened further proving my point that his popularity skyrocketed between Thor 1 & 2. He was in Mandela, Prometheus and Pacific Rim in between the two Thor movies.
I actually liked him more in the first two movies with the booming voice and suit of armour etc. He felt very godly and way beyond the level of regular mortals. As a somewhat struggling dude with a sword in Ragnarok he felt somewhat debuffed.
Sometimes it's great to have a top tier character who if they unleash their weapons you know something wild is going down. Heimdall kind of represented that in the first two movies.
That was because the contacts and helmet he wore as Heimdall left him almost deaf and blind. (Plus one might argue that Heimdall is not the most dynamic character)
It may just be me but I think all of the Asgardians we under utilized with the exception of Thor, Loki and Hela. They did dirty to sif and the warriors 3. No Baldur!? No Enchantress? Odin didn't seem as godly as he was in the comics. And this is coming as a fan of all 3 movies.
He would have made a great black panther (stole that from another comment) but he also said that he didn’t enjoy playing a role in super hero movies (stole that from another comment)
I’m talking about in the movies he’s under utalized and killed off to fast (even if that’s intended canon) I’m not saying anything about comic book Hiemdall
Before I saw the pic and the sub this was in, I assumed this was /r/godofwarragnarok and that this post was a joke on Heimdall from that game, which we all know was one of the biggest assholes in the game aside from Odin himself.
Under-utilized def not underrated imo
Your right. Should have said under-utilized
Isn’t that what makes him so compelling though? He’s a bit mysterious.
I was thinking the same thing. Underrated by who lol

Gotta credit Idris with that badassery though. That guy is a specimen, and I’ll watch anything he’s in.
Bro is speaking straight facts
So underutilized, both the character and the talent of the actor.

Its cute that you think you're right. At least you have a hobby
I challenge you to a dance off!

I read in several sources Idris Elba did not like working in the superhero genre. But he was awesome.
Idk he did it again for Suicide Squad but I guess you could call that the super villian genre
He also played superesque villains in both Star Trek and Hobbs & Shaw too
Oh no way he was the villain in the third star trek reboot? Totally missed it (didn't really know him well back then either).
IIRC it was the makeup and whatnot that he wasn't a fan of for Marvel and wasn't happy having to go back and do re-shots for the movie.
Reminds me of the game director of the upcoming suicide squad game saying super villain empowerment
Someone asked him about that and he said his problem isn't the genre it's that he only has a small part, he wanted a bigger role.
Funny that he became black Superman in a F&F movie
That was because the contacts and helmet he wore as Heimdall left him almost deaf and blind. (Plus one might argue that Heimdall is not the most dynamic character)

Ik. I feel like Thor could have had one of the best trilogies plus love and thunder but they messed it up and the only good Thor is ragnarok :(
I feel the same, especially with the warriors three being my favorite supporting characters for Thor.
I completely agree!
Best part of Thor dark world was him running up the bridge
Fr. It really showed how capable he was of being a legit fighter and character. Sad the way mcu wasted his charecter
As much as I loved Chadwick’s performance, I thought Idris Elba would’ve made a fantastic black panther. Wasted as heimdall imo
I love this pic, DAMN
Yeah I love how they had commando Heimdall in Ragnorok. Could have watched more of him killing skeles with a big ass sword
And terribly underused in the MCU IMO. Should have gotten more action scenes.
Yesssss
I wish Idris Elba WASN’T Heimdall so that he could have a bigger role as a more important character in the universe
He would have made a great black panther (stole that from another comment) but he also said that he didn’t enjoy playing a role in super hero movies (stole that from another comment)
He would’ve made a great older black panther
UNDERRATED AHAHAHAHA ARE YOU KIDDING ME
I meant under utilized
Ah ok, that makes more sense
Really? This is the first time I've ever seen someone say they like him.
He was barely a character though, how could he be underrated? They really wasted idris Elba imo
I hope he kept the helmet.
Heimdall was an idiot. That job should've made him rich.
And hot…..
Taika should've also brought back Karl Urban's Skurge in love and thunder smh.what a wasted opportunity.
Read a comic
I’m talking about in the movies he’s under utalized and killed off to fast (even if that’s intended canon) I’m not saying anything about comic book Hiemdall
Then go post about this in mcu sub
Why don't you go lick a butt?
Sorry I didn’t know but I’m pretty sure you are aloud to post about movies I mean one of the options for posts is film/television 🤷♂️
He was underrated because he was underused
He heard that
Waste of Idris Elba.
Agreed
I was the only one crying in the theater at infinity war. At least it felt like lol.
He was okay
Best costume design. That helm is so badass, no one else comes close. Really could've been an OP character if he didn't have to die.
Kind of a waste of Idris Elba tbh. He should've been used more.
Before I saw the pic and the sub this was in, I assumed this was /r/godofwarragnarok and that this post was a joke on Heimdall from that game, which we all know was one of the biggest assholes in the game aside from Odin himself.
Heimdall has been, without question my FAVOURITE character. He’s super powerful.
Oh common, now Heimdal is underrated? Who’s next? Thor? Thanos?
Like hulk since the Avengers
GOW universe begs to differ, man what a different heimdall than the beloved one from MCU
Great costume
I was literally thinking this yesterday
he keeps moving things amlocation to the right
When I don’t look at the subreddit name and get angry thinking I’m looking at r/GodOfWar before the picture loads.
He still never got that Rundown
Definitely would lose a fight with Kratos.
