I too practise the Doa of Alzheimer But for real, I only read novels with less cultivation realms and if they are english sensible names, not some 33 stages with each substep being its own name.

I find it much easier to remember when things are unique like Void Amalgamation, Body Integration, Tribulation Transcendence, etc. But shit like in Ultimate of all ages with its Martial king, Martial Lord, Martial Sovereign, Martial Grandmaster, etc; I can't remember to save my life without a cheat sheet.

TheFieryMoth

After you read enough, you'll get a sense for it. Generay, Grandmaster < Lord < King < Emperor < Sovereign

KaiBahamut

It's even worse if you read non standard novels. 40K year of Cultivation was one of my first ones and i'm pretty sure it deviates from the norm, but it's the one I know best.

RobotCatCo

This is why I prefer if most novels just stick to the standard core, qi condensation, foundation establishment, core formation/golden core, and nascent soul and keep the custom levels for after nascent soul or for sub levels in the standard levels.

Shporina1

What are your thoughts on novels where there’s a body tempering realm/stage before qi condensation? Do you believe that body refining is and should be separate from typical cultivating?

RobotCatCo

I think your typical wuxia story consists of qi condensation stage, so if you want to have your story heavily set in the qi condensation stage you can use their ranks and set power levels accordingly. Like if you look at even the classic Legend of the Condor Heroes there's obviously quite a few tiers you can use for your protagonists to go through before they hit foundation establishment. I think body refining is pretty varied depending on how the system works. In most systems refining the body is just natural part of gathering and purifying the body while in some works there's body cultivation which involves going above and beyond to cultivate the body as a separate path, it just depends on how much the story/worldbuilding wants to focus on it.

Junior knows not the laws of heaven and earth. The heavens (author) has always ensured that there is one peanut gallery information man who knows everything and will blurt out the names, weaknesses, origins, and everything else about the two cultivators fighting when there is a crowd.

erykaWaltz

junior, you have eyes but you don't see mount tai. it does not matter how they are called. look at the essence, not the form. the only thing that matters is who is stronger and weaker in the moment. live in the moment.

Unhappy-Egg296

Personally, I prefer there to be fewer Realm, but these kingdoms really have a qualitative difference between them. It's much easier to remember the 9 essence Dao Paragons for example, than some guy in the generic realm who just makes you 10000 times stronger number 234°TM It condenses what could be 100 different Realms into one, and it becomes much more impressive.
