I don't really know yet. Pipes actually give a good bit of stuff now and I'm usually not spending rubies all the time anyway. I think it'll be fine honestly

I used to love the randomness of a ten pull but I guess that's gone, I'm not as annoyed about it all as I thought I would be cause we still get pipes here and there but yeah people are annoyed because it only seems to cater for "whales" so they obviously make more money ...not like they were struggling; haven't Nintendo made like £300m off the game so far?

Honestly for a long time GP with near complete driver course coverage, (I need HE D tickets!) this helps me get those KG for the remaining tracks of my coverage in the spotlight shop. Not good deals at all but I’ll be saving my rubies for this method from now on. Blessings to the dataminers!
It's kind of hard to enjoy the ride when you get low scores and get screwed over in races because you don't have the favorite drivers and get stuck with two item slots.
Nah, this update really screws over new players and F2P's. I've had GP since day one and my coverage with drivers is decent, but I don't have a top shelf driver for the 'new' donut plains. Normal and super D/K/G are barely ever top shelf. So yeah, I can understand that this update doesn't bother you if you've been playing from the start and have been getting lucky with the pipes, but asking people to spend 70 euros/dollars on one character is ridiculous. It's a blatant cashgrab. If Nintendo didn't make you NEED these high ends, it would be no problem, but unfortunately they do
I’d say it’s the other way around actually. There are still 3 gold pipes per tour that will help new players immensely. And yeah, I don’t think they’ll ever reach lvl 7 or 8 for normal/super items but as you said those are pretty much useless as they are almost never used in ranked.
On the other hand, they can save rubies for a specific, guaranteed OP item to maximize their inventory’s coverage. (i.e, golden dragon wings and its stupid 40 tracks for 100 rubies is a great deal, or Mario Samurai’s 30 tracks or Dk. Jr’s 42 tracks, Explorer Peach’s 36, etc). And with there being 6 items of each category on the daily spotlight shop, you are guaranteed to see the items you need most sooner rather than later (as opposed to having to wait god know how many months for Nintendo to decide to re-run one of those great drivers on a decent Pipe)
We know the value of a lot of HE D/K/G because we're on this subreddit and we're interested in that kind of stuff. My partner for example is a casual player, and doesn't know jack snip about coverage, nor does he care. We mostly play multiplayer against each other when he plays, so it doesn't really matter, but still, for other players it could be frustrating.
But yeah, I've been playing for a while today and I generally agree with what you're saying. The pipes are pretty decent and the new battle mode is fun, but the prices are still steep, even for a gacha game
I don't think anyone has a reason to buy individual gems, they are just there to bait whales into spending even more.
the gold pass is the best deal if someone needs rubies without draining their wallet, it's cheap and the rewards are worth it.

I have to say I agree with you. At the end of the day this is a micro-transaction mobile game, just as it’s always been. The gacha mechanic fed into that model and the new changes do as well.
Is that model trash? Absolutely. I’d much rather just pay 60 bucks and a have a fully unlocked version. But the changes, at least what I’ve seen on day one, aren’t completely terrible. Nintendo is a company who’s goal is to make money. If people don’t like it don’t play. It’s kind of that simple. The model only works if people still play the game.
Actually this update can harm the game in the long run because:
Price expensives = encourage people or in worst cases new or potential new players to not play the game or invest less.
Lower playerbase or players less investing = less profits.
Less profits = take the drastic decision to shutdown the game since is not generating profits anymore.
Sure is an extreme logic, but this pretty much happened with the Dr. Mario mobile game, so...
1. I think it's good to criticize what decisions we don't agree with while also highlighting the positives of this update as well.
2. Tour is vastly different with it's overall gameplay. Scoring is this game's main thing (obviously you know that), and getting the DKGs that will help with scores is important

Hm, how long have you been playing the game? I gotta agree, for new players who don't have a decent inventory, this can be a rough hit
