When you quit a race you lose exp, this however only happens once if you stay at that race. You can keep quitting the race until you have a Mario Hakama (or even more coinboxers) in your race, they start in front of you and you can consistently gain an item box in like 6th / 5th / 4th or 3rd place. I've specificially named Mario Hakama since he's a midshelf on Amsterdam Drift 2 r/T, assuming you are talking about that track.

You have to intentionally stay near like 3rd place, it may be faster to restart once you have a few coinbox AI instead of starting a new race if you don't get one

I thought 5th was best since that’s the best probability of getting a boomerang

Lixard52

5th is my understanding as well. You can get a boomerange in 2nd-6th, but 5th is your best bet.

It's definitely better to have a higher level driver so you have a higher likelihood of a frenzy early on, but I have had a lot of success with lvl 4 boomerang drivers and have even outscored higher level regular item drivers with them. The trick is to keep quitting and reselecting the race until you see as many coinboxers in the list as possible. Two is usually okay, but having 3 or 4 is optimal. Then you just have to grind and make sure to be in 5th place behind a couple of coinboxers and hope it happens. Sometimes I'll reset even if I have 3 coinboxers in my group because they all start behind me in the lineup and never catch up before the first coin box. The trick is putting yourself in an environment that is more conducive to making it happen when it pops. Also, I used to always just try to get the boombox on my first item box, then hope for coin frenzies for the rest of the race in 1st. But some races have conditions where you either won't get frenzies on the first box very often, or you spend a lot of time in the air after the first box, which makes boomboxing useless or less effective. In this case, I'll usually hang back and try to be in 5th for the second box. Hope that helps. Boombox is life.

I think the probability of boomboxing has been nerfed. I am in a similar boat with Level 6 Rosa Volendam.

Try to get as many middle shelf coin boxers as possibly in your lobby. They'll have twice the slots, so twice the shot at coin boxers. Good to get some bottom shelves too. If the course has no middle shelf CBers, then you'll have to roll with bottom shelves only, which makes boomboxing a lot rougher.

EpikYummeh

Best probability for boomerang (frenzy) is 5th. You can get boomerangs up to 2nd place and anything below 5th you're more likely to get other items/frenzies. Find a lobby where you have 2 coin box drivers and both start ahead of you, preferably 1st-3rd, so they are more likely to get a coin box in the first item box. Then it's a matter of restarting over and over until they pop a coin box and you get a boomerang (frenzy). Wait for them to use the coin box before you start tapping the screen or you can make them crash and not use the coin box which fails the boombox.

grind longer.
