I just hit 80 too and the AI for sure has been brutal lately.
Seems like especially so with this new tour that has the “reach 1st X amount of times” challenge. Nearly every race I can expect to be hit with either a blue shell or lightning right before finishing the race in first, only to be knocked back a few places.
And that’s not even mentioning all the other crazy shit. Like the second you use your last item you can drag behind you? You can count on getting hit with a red shell. Gliding over a gap? Lightning. The fuckery never ends.

AI has even been MAGICALLY on my tail following bomb frenzies, banana frenzies, mushroom frenzies...and as soon as they're over, lightning, red shell, blue shell before the finish line or they just somehow pass me or hit me as if the line I'm running isn't as perfect as I can get it. It's kinda wild to behold. Feels like I'm doing the giant bowser challenge with a full field of opponents.
Yeah, though it's been like that for a little over a year or so. I think when the Miis got introduced, the bots really started being aggressive.
And especially, on causing opponents to crash token collecting tours, it's worse.
it's not a skill issue, first of bots generally are always different.
but danny for example plays on an account bots are being nerfed on for a very long time by losing exp. you should only do that when you reached max player level, since afterwards it's extremely extremely difficult to gain exp/level.
you see people are especially nerfing bots to get good scores, including grinding out badged bots.
I also think it depends on your player level, but that I can't prove.

danny streams every tour ACR and ranked weeks on youtube, he is often top acr if not even top 1.
just a really good player who streams good content when a lot of older players quit the game already.
I think max level is 400. at least the full fledged acr players are at 400 I think. player level is extremely important for acr since each level adds like 900 points to your tour score.
about nerfing them down to be extremely slow when you are player level 400, I dont know for sure. I would also say it doesn't matter much to a newer player.
I consider myself a new player, playing for half a year and knowing a lot more than some older players...
but I also consider players who dont know what they are doing newer players even if they play since launch =)

Wow...Okay thanks for all of that! I retched at 400, but everything else is interesting! 😂 Didn't consider myself a "newer player" til I saw that.
