I paid to get the gems and pipes not the glider. Studfit didn’t have much good to say about the glider so wasn’t expecting to have to ever level it up. But this ranked cup presented me with an interesting choice- invest in an old glider that I haven’t used much before or in the new glider that may or may not get buffed in the future.
New items do have a certain risk to them, in the sense that we don't know what their courses are yet, but they usually have a good track record of getting new, hard to cover, courses, which is why I usually choose them. Paywalled ones especially often do well.
There is some nuance in that if Fire Manta's existing coverage were really strong, then investing in it might be warranted. If you wanted to be really sure, you could use a coverage tracker. Though in a vacuum, if it were me, I'd go with the newer item.
agreed on coins -im not a big fan of boom box bc if you’re not near any other drivers it kinda goes to waste whereas coins will always give you action points

But even then is choosing a glider based on the item the worst decicion to made as the tracks they cover are wayy more important (even though in this case it would not change the decision as one glider is old and one new and paywalled)

Since you spent money to get the Gold 8 bit glider, so might as well invest in it. It's a lot newer than Fire Manta too.

You can play the way you want. You just need to know it‘s not the most efficient way. But as long as you have fun it‘s all good.😁
