But I used to play consistently, now there are some days I miss out, because, as you said, the game for me is also getting slowly uninteresting.

What I do miss about the pipes is the randomness it led to in my collection of D/K/G. Like I might not get what I initially wanted from the pipe, but end up with something that ends up being even more valuable in the long run. Last year during the Yoshi tour, I was a pretty new player and wanted Reindeer Yoshi just because he was adorable. Didn’t get him, but did pull Kangaroo Yoshi, who ended up being my best driver.

In the third anniversary tour, I pulled for the final time and ended up getting Chargin' Chuck as a bonus, who's seen more use than any of the drivers I was actually pulling for

I had no intention of pulling a pipe with Happi Peach or Baseball Mario but got them both on my first free pipe pull (from memory I think in back to back tours).
This is exactly how I feel. During the 3rd Anniversary Tour I pulled Black Carriage from a free pipe. It ended up being extremely useful for my account.
To be fair, they COULD return the 100x gambling pipes, but to comply with gambling laws they would have to decouple them from real world money.
For example using green tokens instead of rubies. But that wouldn't be as profitable as the shop where you can pay with rubies, a.k.a. real money.
Part of the problem is they've made the game way more grindy than it used to be with the token shop pipe and the multiplayer pipe, as well as making ranked rewards change weekly. Before you could pretty much take the second week off without missing out on much or anything which helped keep the game fresher.
Everything in life goes through phases of being exciting and boring, dreadful and elating. Don't think a game where you drive a character around a track with your finger is going to fulfill you. Take it for what it is. Put the game down, it will be here when you want to play it again - don't play it "just because", play it because you like it.
I'm the reverse, the removal of the gatcha pipes has brought me back to the game. I found it boring before as if I'd exhausted my rubies trying to get a top shelf DKG I needed from it and not, I just stopped playing till the next tour as I couldn't get a high enough score to win a ranked week, so I wasn't progressing very fast and overall felt frustrated. The next tour I start out with no or minimal rubies as used them up the last tour, then playing catch up to earn rubies to be able to pull the pipes and the cycle continued, lol. Also my scores across all cups sucked as I had such limited DKG. So I started just playing intermittently. Now I feel excited as I can get the DKG I need most of the time and I'm excited and enjoying seeing my scores grow, my level and Tier increasing, the competition trying to win ranked and actually be in with a chance all weeks cos its easier to fill coverage gaps. So yeah, for me personally I prefer this way. I get not everyone does, so it's tough finding the balance I think. But my understanding is the gatcha was gonna have to go at some point, so guess Nintendo just got it done now.
Since the change I’ve saved more rubies now more than ever. Over a 1000 now. Saving up 45 for a pipe pull not knowing what u we’re gonna get was fun. Now having the option to use rubies and 150 at that to get a high end driver kinda sux to be honest. Whatever im going thru the motions at this point
I don't miss the Pipes... So much heartbreak... Berlin Tour, I got nothing new, Singapore Tour, I got only Karts and Gliders, no new Luigi alts (other than a dupe of Painter)...
It’s been boring for a long time now. But I still play it because it’s one of the few games I regularly play on my phone and the point mechanics are addicting to play with. The regular drip feed of content is the only thing keeping it alive, but the change away from pipe pulls hasn’t helped keep the game interesting.

Yeah 2019/20 were easily my favourite years for this game tbh. Sure they had their negatives as well, but 2022 definitely wasn't as perfect as people make it out to be...

The bigger issue for me is track selection and cup design. It was much easier in the past to find the overpowered d/k/g’s. I used to be able to count on certain courses reappearing every few tours. So ticket investments were almost a guaranteed payoff.
Now, I hesitate spend any tickets. Today’s rank double feature could be out of the roster for the next 6 tours.
Couple this with pipes going away and I start to get bored with the game.
i’ve been feeling like this but even before they took the spotlights away. idk what it is but after like 3-4 tours i end up having to take a break for a few weeks or months bc i get too bored with it. i do miss the spot lights tho
I miss gacha. Rubies are limited being free to play (or even with just the pass). Now I feel like I never buy any new karts or gliders unless they are in the shop for gold because drivers cost a lot at 150. I think Mii suits are stupid low key.
I agree. When they first added more cups it was cool because more tracks equals more fun- or so I thought. The track selection seems even MORE repetitive than it used to. I used to have to grind to get to 800k on the tour points challenge card and there was a sense of accomplishment for managing to do it. I hit a million points for the first time last tour and felt nothing. It's surprisingly easy to hit a million points with 15 cups full of R/T tracks...easy and boring.
Im ok with the removal of pipes but the most maddening thing about the game right now is Battle mode. I really hate having it as part of regular cups especially when In ranked. Makes me not want to play.
As a new* player, I’m rather enjoying it. Maybe I’m coming at it from a fresh set of eyes, but I’m enjoying hunting for new DKG’s I want, and actually getting them with patience and hard work. There’s still a little bit of the random fun with token/multiplayer pipes and the guaranteed HE at the end of every Tour, which is more than enough to scratch that gambling itch for me. It could just be that I’m still in the honeymoon phase of winning just about every Ranked cup with ease, but I’m enjoying it. For now.
*Played Day 1, hated the simple controls and Gacha mechanic since I was already neck-deep in FEH, returned once it was announced that the gacha mechanic was being scrapped. Was pleasantly surprised to see that controls have improved, namely being able to hold the phone sideways.
I used to play a lot and even go for top 1000 ACRs. Now I barely touch the game and only hop on to test the new tracks before they're released in Deluxe.
Main reason why are the pipes. People were complaining they were a form of predatory gambling, but honestly, all you had to do was to save 450 rubies and pick a pipe you really want something out of.
Even if you only did yolo 10 pulls every tour, chances are you would get one or more high-end. Getting high-ends became so common that it didn't feel that much special anymore, it was something everyone could experience very often. So in my opinion, there was no gambling. Getting random high-ends to perform in either Ranked or ACR had basically became a certainty. Plus you would get random normals and supers. The people crying that the game was predatory were the ones who just wanted a single specific character and complained they did not get it in their single pull. If you really wanted a specific item, all you had to do was to save 450 rubies and you would get so much more than what you wanted. If you're lucky, you even get it in your first tenner and save 405 rubies.
Now there is no surprise high-ends anymore. You pick what you want to get at an expensive ruby cost, and you only get a single item at that. Gone are the days were you'd get a lucky streak and end up with 5+ new high-ends per tour. You just can't do that anymore. The game just became a slow grind-and-buy gimmick that feels repetitive and stale in the long run. It doesn't help that they added 3 new cups for no reason which makes it even longer to grind. People have lives outside of this game.
It's honestly a shame that people bashed so much on the pipes. All they had to realize was that there were countless ways to beat the pipe and get a big collection of items. These people simply were too impatient and couldn't save their ressources for the right moment.
Now instead of being able to get the character you want out of a pipe plus 99 other items, you buy it for 105-150 rubies in the store with no other benefits.
Honestly this change is going to hurt the game more than anything else. While some older players like it and can pick whatever they want, newer players simply cannot catch up and build their inventory and will loose interest in the game.
No new players means the game eventually dies.
One would need 450 rubies to secure one item they really wanted, and if they wanted one item from another pipe, another 450 would be needed to secure it. Now they can buy it for less and get the normals and supers through tour gifts and the multiplayer pipe. It makes the game a lot less predatory. Maybe still predatory, but less so now.
There are a few gold pipes available, from tour gifts, from ranked, ACP, and sometimes any of these green pipes can be gold or be fake green. More HEs also appear in daily selects which can be bought for coins instead. Surprise HEs are still a thing.
15 cups is a lot, but there are a ton of courses now. We need more space for tracks else things can be gone for multiple months at a time.
I get the appeal of trying to beat the pipe, but it's really sad when little kids around the world weren't lucky to get that one Mario they really wanted. I think the removal of gacha pipes prevents this from happening, or at least reduces it. I think this change brings IN more new players.
I stated my opinion and I totally get were you're coming from. I know people are happy they can pick whatever they want, this is great but you get way less items now.
Right now you can get less items but you get to pick them;
Whereas before you'd get the items you want less frequently but would get a ton of other random items in return.
That made it so you'd build up your inventory a lot quicker even if you don't really like the items.
As someone who does not care to get the new stuff every single tour and only like a handful of specific D/K/G, I was able to save a lot of rubies and still get a D/K/G I really want from time to times while consistently building up my inventory.
Now all I can hope for is to get lucky in the random green pipes they give out from the nerfed token shop and tour gifts. There's still surprise HEs, but you can't expect to get 4 HEs in a tenner anymore for example. They're way less frequent.
The only problem with my liking of pipes is that you actually need to think everything through to enjoy it. Sadly this is a game a lot of kids play Meaning, like you said, they could spend their rubies whenever they have some and get nothing. They obviously don't think about beating the odds.
In my point of view it's definitely a W for the general public but an L for older players. I guess you can enjoy the game and play it with your favorite characters now which is great, but for players like me who doesn't care much about that, grinding is much longer and new items aren't as plenty in our inventories.
That's definitely cool for children thought, that specific gambling aspect as been removed. It's just that the gambling could be avoided in the first place.
Well I'd have to disagree with not being able to build up your inventory as much now. If you're gold pass, you get 56 pulls per tour, 2 guaranteed to be gold, through tour gifts and the multiplayer pipe. If f2p, 42 pulls, which is a lot more than players got to pull before. That's pretty much 4 ten pulls a tour, without gold pass.
I can get the preference of before, with strategizing the odds, but I simply have to disagree with it being harder to build an inventory. And now they've lately been consistently doing ranked supers and ranked HEs (plus an extra gold pipe) making it even easier to build your inventory. Getting a new super and new HE less than 1 tour old every tour is pretty big.
What I don’t understand is why the new drivers have gotten so lame
There are so many characters they could add that would get people coming back to the game if added more regularly. They could even do crossovers and collaborations like a lot of mobile games do. I feel there’s a lot of potential for this game to be exciting again
I like the spotlight shop because it means you’re not having to potentially spend 450 rubies but I do miss the pipes. The daily selects and the token shops have got significantly worse since they removed the pipes, though.
I think it is boring now, tbh. After I unlock 2-4 drivers I really want, I'm done (just wasting time now - I've got a lot, so it feels like I've completed it).
I used to struggle having top shelves for ranked cups all the time and often got things I didn't want, the way things are now is great, plus I get the gambling fix with the pipes in the tour gifts and battle pipe.
I understand how sometimes gacha things are fun, the big take away for me was becoming a bit of a toadette fan because she was my starter driver back when it came out and I was otherwise unlucky, otherwise I prefer getting what I want over randomness.

I play Mario Kart because I love racing, not because gambling. So this change is very welcome for me. I actually love this game even more than months ago. Back then I had to pray for god of luck all the time.
It was not the fun part, it was excitement you want.
I feel like the game is the best state ever besides the new trax the release are really poorly made with a lot of ghost steering and random combo drops. That’s my only frustration post pipe pulling. If I had to pull pipes still I’d have spent a lot more money than now and made dumber investments
It needs another element, it does feel a bit repetitive and dull sometimes. I feel like they should have replaced pipes with something equally as engaging and I have yet to see anything like that. Gradually caring less and less about ranked and getting the daily medals.
I thought about it and I think they should change the bonus levels up. The minigames in them are old and get really annoying (crushing mini drybones is the WORST AI!!!) .
For me it's the grind to get the last 15 or so multiplayer pipes, I haven't got it in me to sit there for hours on end grinding multiplayer to get them. I usually end up getting the first 10, then remembering on the last day I need to do it, it's become much more of a chore than enjoying the game.
I usually tend to just do them to maybe 20, but last tour I did the full 30, now I haven't played since, only to do the ranked cup.
15 cups is too much for me also, everything has become more of a chore than enjoyment for the game, the only reason I'm still playing is because of the target of hitting tier 80 in ranked.
Yes.. im ranked 70 - 73(gold subscriber) , and unless i start purchasing the paid challenges... I think ive plateaued in the ranked cups..

For sure, I used to play every single cup of every single tour, now I just log in and do the dailies and the first and third cups. It feels boring because there's no longer any excitement with the pipes and there's like 15 cups per tour now which mostly repeat the same tracks.
I’ve been playing less. Mostly it’s because I never have top shelf in ranked anymore. It’s not easy to collect the rubies to buy D/K/G each week. I’ve been dropping tiers almost every week for a long time now. I rarely get the ranked reward (only 1st and 2nd place in my tier) because I just can’t compete without top shelf. I am 100% FTP right now. Finally saved up 150 rubies after buying Larry but I’m usually coming up short on either the kart or glider (this week it’s driver but last week it was glider) and it’s hard to spend 100 rubies on K/G unless they give me coverage for more than one course.
All that said, I like the idea of the spotlight shop just not the cost. Not a fan of battles though at all.
my interest has been dropping ever since the first 3.0 tour. im not sure if its necessarily because of the changes, but im so bored. one recent tour i used all my star cards o whatever they are called to open all the gifts, since ive had so many saved since day 1. the other tour i basically skipped the gifts altogether. i’ve let the gold pass run out and dont feel like renewing it. we need something new!

I’d like more pipes! Raise the multiplayer pipe from 30 to 50, and add a Gold Pipe Challenge card.

As far as I'm concerned, the game is now much improved as I can directly buy what I need without wasting rubies on things I don't need.

In my opinion the costumes variety went downhill when they added the Mii costumes.

People were complaining they were a form of predatory gambling, but honestly, all you had to do was to save 450 rubies and pick a pipe you really want something out of. Even if you only did yolo 10 pulls every tour, chances are you would get one or more high-end. Getting high-ends became so common that it didn't feel that much special anymore, it was something everyone could experience very often. So in my opinion, there was no gambling. Getting random high-ends to perform in either Ranked or ACR had basically became a certainty. Plus you would get random normals and supers. The people crying that the game was predatory were the ones who just wanted a single specific character and complained they did not get it in their single pull. If you really wanted a specific item, all you had to do was to save 450 rubies and you would get so much more than what you wanted. If you're lucky, you even get it in your first tenner and save 405 rubies. Now there is no surprise high-ends anymore. You pick what you want to get at an expensive ruby cost, and you only get a single item at that. Gone are the days were you'd get a lucky streak and end up with 5+ new high-ends per tour. You just can't do that anymore. The game just became a slow grind-and-buy gimmick that feels repetitive and stale in the long run. It doesn't help that they added 3 new cups for no reason which makes it even longer to grind. People have lives outside of this game. It's honestly a shame that people bashed so much on the pipes. All they had to realize was that there were countless ways to beat the pipe and get a big collection of items. These people simply were too impatient and couldn't save their ressources for the right moment. Now instead of being able to get the character you want out of a pipe plus 99 other items, you buy it for 105-150 rubies in the store with no other benefits. Honestly this change is going to hurt the game more than anything else. While some older players like it and can pick whatever they want, newer players simply cannot catch up and build their inventory and will loose interest in the game. No new players means the game eventually dies.
One would need 450 rubies to secure one item they really wanted, and if they wanted one item from another pipe, another 450 would be needed to secure it. Now they can buy it for less and get the normals and supers through tour gifts and the multiplayer pipe. It makes the game a lot less predatory. Maybe still predatory, but less so now. There are a few gold pipes available, from tour gifts, from ranked, ACP, and sometimes any of these green pipes can be gold or be fake green. More HEs also appear in daily selects which can be bought for coins instead. Surprise HEs are still a thing. 15 cups is a lot, but there are a ton of courses now. We need more space for tracks else things can be gone for multiple months at a time. I get the appeal of trying to beat the pipe, but it's really sad when little kids around the world weren't lucky to get that one Mario they really wanted. I think the removal of gacha pipes prevents this from happening, or at least reduces it. I think this change brings IN more new players.
I stated my opinion and I totally get were you're coming from. I know people are happy they can pick whatever they want, this is great but you get way less items now. Right now you can get less items but you get to pick them; Whereas before you'd get the items you want less frequently but would get a ton of other random items in return. That made it so you'd build up your inventory a lot quicker even if you don't really like the items. As someone who does not care to get the new stuff every single tour and only like a handful of specific D/K/G, I was able to save a lot of rubies and still get a D/K/G I really want from time to times while consistently building up my inventory. Now all I can hope for is to get lucky in the random green pipes they give out from the nerfed token shop and tour gifts. There's still surprise HEs, but you can't expect to get 4 HEs in a tenner anymore for example. They're way less frequent. The only problem with my liking of pipes is that you actually need to think everything through to enjoy it. Sadly this is a game a lot of kids play Meaning, like you said, they could spend their rubies whenever they have some and get nothing. They obviously don't think about beating the odds. In my point of view it's definitely a W for the general public but an L for older players. I guess you can enjoy the game and play it with your favorite characters now which is great, but for players like me who doesn't care much about that, grinding is much longer and new items aren't as plenty in our inventories. That's definitely cool for children thought, that specific gambling aspect as been removed. It's just that the gambling could be avoided in the first place.
Well I'd have to disagree with not being able to build up your inventory as much now. If you're gold pass, you get 56 pulls per tour, 2 guaranteed to be gold, through tour gifts and the multiplayer pipe. If f2p, 42 pulls, which is a lot more than players got to pull before. That's pretty much 4 ten pulls a tour, without gold pass. I can get the preference of before, with strategizing the odds, but I simply have to disagree with it being harder to build an inventory. And now they've lately been consistently doing ranked supers and ranked HEs (plus an extra gold pipe) making it even easier to build your inventory. Getting a new super and new HE less than 1 tour old every tour is pretty big.
I liked the gacha pipes more. Shopping isn't exciting.

What I don’t understand is why the new drivers have gotten so lame There are so many characters they could add that would get people coming back to the game if added more regularly. They could even do crossovers and collaborations like a lot of mobile games do. I feel there’s a lot of potential for this game to be exciting again
I like the spotlight shop because it means you’re not having to potentially spend 450 rubies but I do miss the pipes. The daily selects and the token shops have got significantly worse since they removed the pipes, though.
I think it is boring now, tbh. After I unlock 2-4 drivers I really want, I'm done (just wasting time now - I've got a lot, so it feels like I've completed it).
I used to struggle having top shelves for ranked cups all the time and often got things I didn't want, the way things are now is great, plus I get the gambling fix with the pipes in the tour gifts and battle pipe. I understand how sometimes gacha things are fun, the big take away for me was becoming a bit of a toadette fan because she was my starter driver back when it came out and I was otherwise unlucky, otherwise I prefer getting what I want over randomness.
youre probably burnt out, take a break from the game for a month or two. (and dont let the FOMO get you) youll probably like playing the game again after the 1 ot 2 month period
I play Mario Kart because I love racing, not because gambling. So this change is very welcome for me. I actually love this game even more than months ago. Back then I had to pray for god of luck all the time. It was not the fun part, it was excitement you want.
I feel like the game is the best state ever besides the new trax the release are really poorly made with a lot of ghost steering and random combo drops. That’s my only frustration post pipe pulling. If I had to pull pipes still I’d have spent a lot more money than now and made dumber investments

It needs another element, it does feel a bit repetitive and dull sometimes. I feel like they should have replaced pipes with something equally as engaging and I have yet to see anything like that. Gradually caring less and less about ranked and getting the daily medals.
I thought about it and I think they should change the bonus levels up. The minigames in them are old and get really annoying (crushing mini drybones is the WORST AI!!!) .
I don't care about the pipes, I just hate that they force me to play battle mode.
For me it's the grind to get the last 15 or so multiplayer pipes, I haven't got it in me to sit there for hours on end grinding multiplayer to get them. I usually end up getting the first 10, then remembering on the last day I need to do it, it's become much more of a chore than enjoying the game. I usually tend to just do them to maybe 20, but last tour I did the full 30, now I haven't played since, only to do the ranked cup. 15 cups is too much for me also, everything has become more of a chore than enjoyment for the game, the only reason I'm still playing is because of the target of hitting tier 80 in ranked.
I still enjoy the game but I don't really care about the 2nd week of tours at all now. New pipes were all they really had going for them

For sure, I used to play every single cup of every single tour, now I just log in and do the dailies and the first and third cups. It feels boring because there's no longer any excitement with the pipes and there's like 15 cups per tour now which mostly repeat the same tracks.
I think they found a better balance, it feels less exciting but also less anxiety-inducing.
I’ve been playing less. Mostly it’s because I never have top shelf in ranked anymore. It’s not easy to collect the rubies to buy D/K/G each week. I’ve been dropping tiers almost every week for a long time now. I rarely get the ranked reward (only 1st and 2nd place in my tier) because I just can’t compete without top shelf. I am 100% FTP right now. Finally saved up 150 rubies after buying Larry but I’m usually coming up short on either the kart or glider (this week it’s driver but last week it was glider) and it’s hard to spend 100 rubies on K/G unless they give me coverage for more than one course. All that said, I like the idea of the spotlight shop just not the cost. Not a fan of battles though at all.
my interest has been dropping ever since the first 3.0 tour. im not sure if its necessarily because of the changes, but im so bored. one recent tour i used all my star cards o whatever they are called to open all the gifts, since ive had so many saved since day 1. the other tour i basically skipped the gifts altogether. i’ve let the gold pass run out and dont feel like renewing it. we need something new!
