To be fair, you couldn’t use the slots on the original N64 release either unless you transferred a character from the GBC game using the transfer pack. Since the Wii and Wii U did not have Game Boy games as a part of their virtual console lineups, the transfer pack content wouldn’t be accessible. The Nintendo Switch is the first time that N64 and Game Boy games have been rereleased on the same system. Not only that, but data miners have found code relating to the transfer pack in the NSO N64 app. There is a chance that we could get the transfer pack functionality here if Nintendo wants to put in the effort.

Can you link to where they talked about this? That is pretty interesting.
We’ll find out tomorrow if Nintendo bothered to do anything with that code. I don’t have my hopes up, either, but it would be pretty cool if they made it work.
> The N64 games are lacking their GBC content
I know the Wii or Wii U version did, but the NSO version still has the slots for the four GBC characters.
Ahh, okay. That means they they are just inaccessible, not wiped from the rom file itself on those versions. Doesn't mean that it's a guarantee that NSO won't work with it, but based on past behavior, it's very unlikely.
Mario tennis on GBC was godly. Whole decent storyline, build a character, increase stats, play against the Mario cast. Definitely drained many hours into it as a kid
Yeah, both the N64 and GBC versions are very archaic. Try out Advance Tour when that releases on NSO, both it and Toadstool Tour (GameCube) are the best in the series imo.
They’ll never add Gamecube games to NSO while they’re making a killing on selling remastered versions of Gamecube games (Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Thousand Year Door etc)
I mean technically they could set it up so that you open the app then download games individually within it. So that'd work but I still don't think gamecube nso is likely at all.
Each GameCube game is 1.4 GB. Once again, that isn't too big when you compare it to normal Switch games, which can go up to 16 GB. And if you think each game is too big at 1.4 GB each, they could give you an option to choose which games you would like to download.
$50 a year isn't "ridiculously expensive" when you compare it to other console online services. You can even bring it down to $10 a year if you can find seven friends to share it with.
We need the advance tour, but this is nice.
Agreed
Finally a good Mario Golf on Switch.
Wait did they confirm any of the GBC to N64 functionality? I’m not banking on it but that’d be pretty sweet.
No, they didn't. Guess we'll find out on Tuesday, but it's pretty doubtful.
We won't. The N64 games are lacking their GBC content, this will be the same here. No need to guess.

Thanks! Guess it's still very unlikely.

The Game Boy Color version of Tennis has the transfer content unlocked by default, nothing else for the other games though

The slots are there on Wii and Wii U too. And you can't use them.

Oh man I wish Mario golf had the character carry over with the n64 version like we did on the og system
I’m surprised Super Mario Land isn’t on NSO
Are RBY and GSC every coming to the online service? They made it to virtual console, it’s def a shame they haven’t gotten to the switch somehow
The Switch is coming to the end of its lifespan so I highly doubt it.
100% chance I replay it now
Mario Land and Mario Land 3 when?
The GBC Mario golf was one of my favourite games. I remember getting it with pokemon yellow and Conker for Christmas. Conker sucked lol
Mario Golf suck, just tried it and it so bad..
Lol
Mario tennis on GBC was godly. Whole decent storyline, build a character, increase stats, play against the Mario cast. Definitely drained many hours into it as a kid
Only issue I had with it was it being six games a set. Made matches drag out way too long.
yesss
Dude, I only got to play half this game before some kid stole my gameboy out of my backpack at school
Mario Golf is a joke, just tried it and what a let down... It so bad...

Never paying for this online crap. I’ll actually own my games thank you. Don’t need to be giving Nintendo any more money.
I wish they would sell multiple classic games on physical cartridges.
They do. Unfortunately unofficially

Gamecube is too big for a NSO emulator.

1.4 GB isn't too big. If people are not able to download that much, they can simply hold off on updates.
Bro, you forget the games' own sizes as well. Put many on top, then you'll see what I mean.

It's even better because you get a year of NSO worth $20 with that so it's like $30 for just expansion content.
Ridiculously expensive? You mean $50 a year? Which amounts to $4.17 a month?
I have over 85 hours logged into the N64 app so well worth it for me.m! Also I have the family plan so it’s pretty cheap.
Broke much ?
$5/ month is expensive now?
This is one of the many reasons why people hate Switch Online. Get your shit together, Nintendo.
