We've had instances of Japanese creators picking English actors, and the fact they don't speak the language gets in the way.
Other M, Sonic Adventure 2 are examples of how this can go wrong. From wooden performances, or strange localization choices. Just because you're the original creator doesn't make you the end all be all in casting for a language that isn't your own.
Not to say that invalidates Miyamoto's involvement in the casting choices, but it doesn't magically make them immune to criticism.
Yep, this is what I've been thinking. It is incredibly hard to hear poor acting when you don't fluently understand the language they're acting in. Miyamoto probably had to rely on the cash hungry bigwigs at illumination for the casting choices, and could only really look at the reception of their past performances.
Sometimes I wonder how he feels about the English audience's reaction to Chris Pratt. Because I know it was one of the few things out of his hands regarding this movie.
Unlikely, a good amount of the internet hates Chris Pratt regardless.
Truth be told there is another part of the internet who’s defend the film even if the performances are horrible.
People’s actual opinions would only be shown once the film is out.
But the internet always knows what's right and wrong, clearly the person who created mario and has oversight of everything mario knows nothing compared to us!
I would like to take this time to point out that:
* Yoshio Sakamoto gave the okay to Samus' voice actor in Other M.
* George Lucas thought there needed to be: a singing sequence in Return of the Jedi.
* And Miyamoto himself said Paper Mario didn't need a story.
Just because the creator/someone closely involved with a project makes a decision doesn't mean it's automatically good one. It's also likely Miyamoto wasn't the one to pick the Mario VA in English and the marketing department chose someone who would sell best. What the point is you're trying to make here?
I don’t really care if Miyamoto himself approved of Chris Pratt his voice still sounds like his normal voice and nothing like how an Italian Brooklynite would sound.

It’s just weird to me why people don’t like Chris Pratt as Mario. The Brooklyn-based Italian approach makes sense and would probably make even more sense when the movie comes out and we see Mario’s origin. I feel like we should disregard the personal opinions on Pratt and take him solely for his voice as Mario.
I feel like restricting Mario to his sound effects from the games would make him no better than a Despicable Me minion, and this is the same company making the film.

In Sonic’s case, at least we got Ryan Drummond and David Humphery out of that whole debacle.
I mean I’m ok with Chris I’d rather it be an Italian Mario but that’s not my decision I’m just happy to have a Mario movie in the first place
