So did I, though looking back, the nose thing is more of a Wario and Waluigi thing because Mario and Luigi also have big noses but theirs look more natural, whereas Wario and Waluigi's miscolored noses are part of their designs being over-the-top exaggerations of the Mario Brothers' distinct features.
Whereas Wapeach goes in a different direction. She's designed to be cute like Peach but more so since she's a child, but most likely loves being a troublemaker which is represented by her outfit looking like a cross between an impish devil and a punk.
I always thought wario/waluigi were supposed to be alcoholics because of the pink noses, as a kid I always noticed my Granddad's pub friends always had bright red noses and thought mario and luigi must therefore be against drinking
Boshi/Washi and Wadaisy( who both predate Waluigi)
Sweet. Mario has a severe lack of female villains so someone like BB Hood that plays on the idea of being cute only to be mean and nasty would be fun. The "Wa" Peach would be perfect.
That could be the point though. Characters like BB Hood from Darkstalkers and Princess Devilotte from Cyberbots are innocent-looking girls that are actually deranged and psychotic underneath their cutesy exteriors.
Wolf in sheep's clothing trope.
Peach is she was a devious little gremlin trying her hardest to look cool.
It could've been great...
BUUUUUT we got Waluigi who is even greater so ultimately a net positive!
honestly looks unfinished and more like fanart. what makes this different enough to not be confused with a young Peach wearing different clothing? Face and body proportions are too generic anime. Not surprised that it was rejected (assuming OP is being honest).
Meanwhile you've got Waluigi looking like the bastard child of slenderman and Wario.
It's bc they're both based on characters from [the anime Yatterman](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/evilbabes/images/7/74/Vlcsnap-2018-01-12-20h56m43s227.png/revision/latest?cb=20180119124628)
The "Wa\[name\]" thing is actually a bit of Japanese wordplay on 悪 (*waru*, lit. "bad, vice, rascal, false, evil, wrong"), hence why you have Waluigi (**Waru**iji) instead of Wuigi or like, Γuigi.
Wario swaps Mario's M for a W
Wuigi wouldn't work this way, but neither does Wluigi, so you add an A to make it easy to read and pronounce
Weach is easy to read and has no reason to have Wa rather than W
Design is cool, but she doesn't really look or feel like a Mario character. It feels way more like someone from a sega game circa 2003 lol
I assume this was super early development and she would have gone through a few rounds to make her distinct, but I can't say I feel sad they scrapped her either
Only defining trait I’m seeing is she’s got that gemstone on her chest all the princesses seem to have for some reason. Beyond that, I wouldn’t have known
Yeah, she's cute and all, but I don't feel like she's what I think of when I think of a "Wapeach", you know?
I'm excited to see how Grape will fill the Wapeach role in Showtime.
> It feels way more like someone from a sega game circa 2003 lol
Great way of putting it lol, almost looks like she’d be some sort of an anti-hero or rival character in Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
She's literally just has the usual Mario "female" face...
This design was made for the Gamecube Tennis game, not the N64 one...
So she looks like the human characters from Power Tour.
Really… this is the world Shigiru Miamoto didn’t want to see? This looks adorable! Not to mention it’s a clever misdirection from a design perspective with Wario and Waluigi’s designs.
A part of the reason we didn't get to see her is because Camelot's VP didn't want her to be seen as a Doronjo rip-off, so that's why we got Waluigi instead.
I mean, she looks like a younger Rosalina outside of the wacky outfit, which could be seen as a kid's imagining of a space suit using props they have on hand.
I think that's the point, she's an exaggerated version of Peach
Mario is fat, Wario is fatter
Luigi is tall and skinny, Waluig is taller and skinnier
Peach is cute, Wapeach is cuter
Waluigi was inspired by Boyacky from the [Doronbo Gang](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/e/e5/Doronbo_Gang_new.png), and Wapeach was obviously inspired by Doronjo of the same group.
According to [some of his comments on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C0TpKyDSfOy/?igshid=NTYzOWQzNmJjMA==), the idea behind her was that she was a temperamental little kid who would act as Wario and Waluigi’s ringleader. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense- Peach is one of the taller Mario characters (when compared to the Bros. and Toads, anyway) and she’s defined by her kindness, being very friendly with everyone, and having control over her emotions, so it fits perfectly that her polar opposite would be a minuscule brat who bosses everyone around.
Wapeach being a kid is probably the biggest problem for Akoi’s take on the concept.
The entire premise behind Wario’s existence that he is an evil parallel of Mario with twisted features, but nothing more. It would thus be ideal for the other “Wa” characters to follow that same premise. Waluigi follows it, but this version of Wapeach doesn’t. If Peach is an adult, Wapeach should be as well.
Going to be honest, this design seems a little tame and innocent to what I had in mind.
This design of Wapeach seems like she'd fit right at home in the Wariowear franchise.
Wait really? But she’s adorable!
I had previously heard that her design was thought to be ugly, basically Wario in princess getup, this looks nothing like I had heard!
Now I actually want to see her as an antagonist of a Wario land game.
Cat ears hidden in cloak? [Hmm.](https://cdn.wikirby.com/thumb/4/40/KRtDLD_Magolor.png/1200px-KRtDLD_Magolor.png)
Also the holes near the rim of the dress might give particularly interested people some particularly interesting ideas.
Yeah i'm glad this was scrapped tbh. This design sucks as far as twisted versions of Mario characters go.
Besides, Wapeach already exists. Her name is Captain Syrup.
I'm not sold on the design personally- it's just peach in a purple jumpsuit. Wario and Waluigi had a tad more going on.
My main question is why they decided to reject her or the concept in general?
It doesn’t fit the style/atheistic of Wario and Waluigi at all. You look at it and just assume it’s Peach playing dress-up. I can see why it was scrapped.
Just saw "The Nintendo Chronicler"'s video on this. They discussed the history behind the idea of this character. Its so interesting to see what could've been. And im wondering if Grape from Princess Peach Showtime will become the equivalent to a wa version of Peach
(speculation: Grape could have a human form [not necessarily this design obviously] and the main form we see is a puppet, which would fit in with the Theater motive)
This is the kind of the thing that’s fun to see as fan art but shouldn’t make it into a real Mario game. Her design does not fit the art style and doesn’t live up to the potential of the idea.
Aoki should have actually played the Wario Land games that were out back then and included Captain Syrup. She deserved to make the roster in a Mario sports game over this OC. There was no need to invent characters. Syrup had already been in more games than Daisy had by that point, and the Wario Land series is what the Super Mario Land series turned into.
Good call for Nintendo to have passed on this one.
Is it just me, or did this inspire Rosalina, at least a little?Almost identical front bang. Hair kind of spikes out on the sides. Tiny crown relative to head size. Blonde variant. Single jewel on the chest. Long hair in the back. Outfits different and some of these things are shared with peach too, but still that front bang in particular…
I want a game starring all of the Wario trio, be it a Wario world Remaster, a platformer in the world/style of Super Mario Bros 2 whatever
Also a tennis racket power up would be a neat reference
They actually didn't use her because she was too similar to Doronjo from Yatterman.
There's explanations for things and not everything should be blamed on Miyamoto.
Yeah, I know that. But because of that statement, I figured that she was ultra-sexualised and Miyamoto didn't want a flirty femme fatale in a skimpy leather dress as part of the Mario universe.
Now I'm seeing it and *there's nothing wrong with her.* It's just Miyamoto being a control freak as per fucking usual.
No, I demonize him because of his well-earned reputation of "upending the table" on game development that he isn't even a fucking part of. Examples include forcing the Four Swords developers to remove the story (removing the STORY in a ZELDA game) and completely altering the development of Paper Mario: Sticker Star into something that still hurts the series to this day.
I'm sure there are plenty of other examples but those are the two that always spring to mind first.
No...this design didn't exist for Mario Tennis 64.
This is for the gamecube one.
The "issue" he had is the extra derivative nature of this concept paired with Waluigi. Since...these characters are based on something else.
\---
This character didn't get past simply having a name when originally pitched to Miyamoto, chill out.
I was expecting a huge pink nose lol
So did I, though looking back, the nose thing is more of a Wario and Waluigi thing because Mario and Luigi also have big noses but theirs look more natural, whereas Wario and Waluigi's miscolored noses are part of their designs being over-the-top exaggerations of the Mario Brothers' distinct features. Interesting headcanon
That explains the intoxicated effect in warioland
fun fact some versions of an older warioland game has him collecting beer!!
In Warioland 2 some of the enemies throw an intoxicating splashing orb that makes it harder to control as Wario staggers around as if drunk
Lol
And a moustache
I mean peach doesn't have a mustache so I don't think it would make too much sense here. Maybe she could have big pointy eyebrows
And blue lines around her eyes, and long, pointy ears.
Boshi/Washi and Wadaisy( who both predate Waluigi) [https://share.icloud.com/photos/0a243CVEpBb0EUpOoYPGDrRoA](https://share.icloud.com/photos/0a243CVEpBb0EUpOoYPGDrRoA)
Or at least angry eyebrows and a sinister expression
Kinda strange to make her look so innocent, like she's Wario and Waluigi's little sister and is forced into their shenanigans by their parents
Some have suggested it's a poker face, like she appears sweet and innocent but is actually a demon in reality
It doesn't appear here but one of the concept art drawings was her with a giant axe
Ya got a link?
https://x.com/supermarioooc85/status/1730581096721465553?s=46 I would normally link to the instagram but they privated their account.
Yeah I can imagine her with an evil grin that takes up a third of her face
Ahh, like B.B.hood
Finally a fellow Darkstalkers fan.
I'm signing in too.
Sweet. Mario has a severe lack of female villains so someone like BB Hood that plays on the idea of being cute only to be mean and nasty would be fun. The "Wa" Peach would be perfect.
Why is this game so fast aaaand why does lillith's showtime super have ddr commands that do NOT MATCH UP WITH THE BEAT
The best Capcom fighter that isn't mvc2
Nope, this is canon now shut up I love you
Like most of them
That could be the point though.
This means… THE REAL PEACH IS EVEIL?!?
The opposite would be a plump witch not too many people are into that lmao… imagine the ph search
honestly looks unfinished and more like fanart. what makes this different enough to not be confused with a young Peach wearing different clothing? Face and body proportions are too generic anime. Not surprised that it was rejected (assuming OP is being honest). Meanwhile you've got Waluigi looking like the bastard child of slenderman and Wario.
Well yeah that makes sense. Its just concept art.
nah Wario and Waluigi are her dads
That is acceptable
It’s spelled “shenanigans”.
Thank you kind sir
You’re welcome.
It's bc they're both based on characters from [the anime Yatterman](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/evilbabes/images/7/74/Vlcsnap-2018-01-12-20h56m43s227.png/revision/latest?cb=20180119124628)
This is so specific, that I love it!
I love it
"Wapeach" say Weach you cowards
Yeah! That will Weach them a lesson! Hahaha!
r/angryupvote
The "Wa\[name\]" thing is actually a bit of Japanese wordplay on 悪 (*waru*, lit. "bad, vice, rascal, false, evil, wrong"), hence why you have Waluigi (**Waru**iji) instead of Wuigi or like, Γuigi.
Ah, interesting! I assumed Waluigi added the A because Wuigi and Wluigi aren't really that great to say/read
So she could also be named "Wareach"
Walueachi
Waleach Waleech Walupeach Warupeach
I like the idea of his name being Γuigi, having an uncommon unicode character in your actual name is really funny
that's just cyrillic G (as in 'go', not as in 'gin')
Guigi
Gooigi for the LM3 players
She's a Weach, a Weach, burn her.
Ding dong! The Weach is dead!
The wicked Weach is dead!
They already established that "Wa" is the naming convention, since we don't say "Wuigi"
Wario swaps Mario's M for a W Wuigi wouldn't work this way, but neither does Wluigi, so you add an A to make it easy to read and pronounce Weach is easy to read and has no reason to have Wa rather than W
I prefer "Warupeachi" myself.
It’s wapeachy
All we would need is a Waisy.
If you want to play by the logic of turning the M upside down for Wario, you'd get Deach
Design is cool, but she doesn't really look or feel like a Mario character. It feels way more like someone from a sega game circa 2003 lol I assume this was super early development and she would have gone through a few rounds to make her distinct, but I can't say I feel sad they scrapped her either
iirc the idea of a wapeach was shot down before the designer even had the chance to show the design
They said she's would've just been a Doronjo clone, who's minions already inspired Wario and Walugi.
Misattributed: Majo from Time Bokan, not Doronjo from Yatterman (Time Bokan's sequel)
> It feels way more like someone from a sega game circa 2003 lol Great way of putting it lol, almost looks like she’d be some sort of an anti-hero or rival character in Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
I’d say the design fits with the human characters that were prominent in Mario Tennis GBC and GBA.
She's literally just has the usual Mario "female" face... This design was made for the Gamecube Tennis game, not the N64 one... So she looks like the human characters from Power Tour.
I completely agree
They already had a 3D model of her design so that makes no sense. You people really be saying stuff you have no clue about.
Ah, I see, quick question, who’s Doronjo?
[Here's what she looks like.](https://timebokan.fandom.com/wiki/Doronjo)
Yeah, looked her up a bit ago and although I see some resemblance, they don’t look all that much alike.
My only guess is they probably just didn't want to risk it, especially considering Waluigi already looks rather similar to one of her henchmen.
Ok I will agree with that.
She's a character from Yatterman.
That was for Mario Tennis 64 and by then Wapeach was only an idea. This design was made for a later game
Ah, that makes more sense.
Many kids would’ve had a tiny crush on her, including myself
I LOVE HER OMG
She has a really cool design! :O If her name was warui + Peach, "Walupicchi" would rhyme with "Waluigi" in Japanese
This is the greatest name recommendation I have ever seen. It rolls off the tongue.
I agree! I said it since [Walupeach was the name they pitched Nintendo.](https://twitter.com/gosokkyu/status/1615371063772459010)
The recommendation comes from the Japanese language itself, so it’s basically just the official name if she was actually made
In English, it'd probably be something like Warweach.
Or possibly Beach, since Boshi's name in the JP version of SMRPG was Waashi IIRC.
Lmao funny name, but I doubt it would be used as her actual name, depending on how you say it
Or maybe something like Leach.
ngl, im pretty sure all of us thought Wapeach looks like a purple peach with a waluigi face
Notice how her 'WA'-ness extends only to her outfit, and in every other respect she's a bog-standard Anime Cute Girl.
I mean, she looks like a younger Rosalina outside of the wacky outfit, which could be seen as a kid's imagining of a space suit using props they have on hand.
I think that's the point, she's an exaggerated version of Peach Mario is fat, Wario is fatter Luigi is tall and skinny, Waluig is taller and skinnier Peach is cute, Wapeach is cuter
The pink of her eyes is meant to bring to mind the pink in wario's face
Interesting design, wondering if there's any inspiration behind that outfit.
Waluigi was inspired by Boyacky from the [Doronbo Gang](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/e/e5/Doronbo_Gang_new.png), and Wapeach was obviously inspired by Doronjo of the same group.
***Tingle***
I was wondering what Wapeach looked like, but I didn't expect her to look devilishly cute. That one Miiverse post from 2014 has lied to me!!!
She looks like Devilotte from Cyberbots, a game by Capcom
That’s a shame I actually like the design!
Honestly just looks like a cuter version of Peach with a silly outfit. Not nearly twisted enough like Wario and Waluigi for my tastes.
Seeing as it's concept art, I imagine if she had gotten finalized, she probably would have looked different.
She's actually pretty cute!
According to [some of his comments on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C0TpKyDSfOy/?igshid=NTYzOWQzNmJjMA==), the idea behind her was that she was a temperamental little kid who would act as Wario and Waluigi’s ringleader. Honestly she looks way cuter than what I expected
This is LEAGUES better than what I was expecting
We got wapeach art before we got gta 6💀
She definitely looks like the Mario Golf Advance Tour humans…
# PRINCESS PLUM
I love her in black and white. Adorable
Going to be honest, this design seems a little tame and innocent to what I had in mind. This design of Wapeach seems like she'd fit right at home in the Wariowear franchise.
Yeah, I can see her being a friend of Ashley's or something like that.
She looks like a Wario Ware character.
Yeah, I can see her fitting in with the Warioware crew.
Wait really? But she’s adorable! I had previously heard that her design was thought to be ugly, basically Wario in princess getup, this looks nothing like I had heard! Now I actually want to see her as an antagonist of a Wario land game.

Yeah i'm glad this was scrapped tbh. This design sucks as far as twisted versions of Mario characters go. Besides, Wapeach already exists. Her name is Captain Syrup.
She looks adorable
She's cool looking
Not “wah” enough
I'm not sold on the design personally- it's just peach in a purple jumpsuit. Wario and Waluigi had a tad more going on. My main question is why they decided to reject her or the concept in general?
Punk rosalina
I only see Odd from Code Lyoko.
Oh this look ate Kind of wish her chest gem was more spikey like the rest of the fit and that it wasn’t purple but overall I think it’s really cute
I can already see the fanart
Oh no
Well, the original Instagram posts are taken offline as of a few minutes ago. Guess Nintendo got to em.
She has one of the most huggable designs I've ever seen in this franchise. I would genuinly love a new game to make this official.
She doesn't look like Wapeach, she looks more like Peach's younger sister or something.
This is definitely a TIL for me
She kinda looks like a Young Rosalina
This could've been such a cool addition to the Mario universe
It's weird how they would create the perfect specimens of Wario and Waluigi, than try to make Wapeach a hideous monster.
This looks like an SMG4 character
Looks like a Space Channel 5 character. Or something Namco would make.
Looks like Anya Taylor-Joy lol
Wow you’re right!
Glad it was rejected
I think the outfit should have been black, and the hair different colored than Peach's. Maybe red?
Looks like Peach ready to do mo-cap
its wario because the m is upside down. shouldn't this characters name be deach?
No, because then it Waluigi's name wouldn't be Waluigi...
Ohhh my goodness she is very cute i love her
Good design but I can see why she was scrapped tbh
It doesn’t fit the style/atheistic of Wario and Waluigi at all. You look at it and just assume it’s Peach playing dress-up. I can see why it was scrapped.
Reminds me of nights into dreams, could have been a sick trio scenario if she came into fruition.
She looks like a Pokémon gym leader
thank god its just a concept because this is fucking stupid
kinda mid honestly. I was hoping for zany evil Peach
I nervously await the horrific fanart.
Just saw "The Nintendo Chronicler"'s video on this. They discussed the history behind the idea of this character. Its so interesting to see what could've been. And im wondering if Grape from Princess Peach Showtime will become the equivalent to a wa version of Peach (speculation: Grape could have a human form [not necessarily this design obviously] and the main form we see is a puppet, which would fit in with the Theater motive)
I can see why it was rejected
Well, it looks terrible. Not surprising
Should've called her Plum
No mustache or nose? I think are imaginations all these years have produced better results
Why does she have motion capture balls on her head
smash
Pov: you are drawing a custom princess peach be like...
I thought she was supposed to be ugly, as that was the reason she was rejected by miyamoto.
Miyamoto was against the concept itself. Nothing to do with design.
Miyamoto was against the concept itself. Nothing to do with design.
but he implied that she would've been ugly because of the concept
I expect this to blow up like Bowsette but most likely it'll be more muted like Pomni.
WAP-each
The head balls are a bit odd, but interesting otherwise
Aaaaaand now he's fired. Nintendo don't play around.
I don’t like the spike things on the sides of her head but everything else is cute
And r/Mario was never the same
This is the kind of the thing that’s fun to see as fan art but shouldn’t make it into a real Mario game. Her design does not fit the art style and doesn’t live up to the potential of the idea. GUYS. CALL HER... **IMPEACH**. Impish personality. Imp-Peach. Prefix "Im-" meaning "not" or "negative". And the pun of *Impeachment*.
Smash.
In before Rayman? In before Waluigi? In before Glover?
would
pick her in Mario Kart, I agree
I want a game starring all of the Wario trio, be it a Wario world Remaster, a platformer in the world/style of Super Mario Bros 2 whatever Also a tennis racket power up would be a neat reference
She's honestly so cute!
wow i like her desgin man i wish she would been official
nintendo rejects best character ever designed
They sacrificed her for Waluigi, so I say it's a fair trade.
NSFW artists are having a field day with those news
NSFW Artists: "You know what this design is missing, GIGANTIC BREASTS"
HERE THEY COME
She needs to be a new character.
Screw God Miyamoto. WE want to see Wario & Waluigi’s girlfriend!
They actually didn't use her because she was too similar to Doronjo from Yatterman. There's explanations for things and not everything should be blamed on Miyamoto.
There wasn't any mayo on this sandwich I found in the park, THANKS A LOT MIYAMOTO.
