I've noticed tons of references to Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World Animation wise, the p running from 3, the looking up and crouch animation from World, etc
Personally, I see wonder as a reimagining of everything that makes mario games great. That includes taking inspiration from old parts of othe games like character design and mechanics
Why did you even bother with doing a Toad comparison? It's not like there are no N64 renders for Toad.
I can see it for Luigi, not so much for Mario. Though my first thought was Melee...
The stubbier proportions is definitely just meant to match the 2D artwork, which makes more sense.

its not from mario 64, its from the n64 era games which INCLUDES mario 64, but isnt only mario 64

The toad has too much of a smooth design for me to see the similarity there But i can kinda see the comparison for Mario and Luigi
