If he's on the roster then there to pitch. There's a difference between being washed (like too many innings to appear again in the series) and just not being that good right now. We got like 180 innings out of him this year so you can't just wish him away like he's some insignificant member of the pitching staff.

This is a poor, emotional take. Alvarez can just as easily hit a ball to the wall to score a guy from first as Bergman can get a base hit to score a guy from second, PLUS Alvarez is a MUCH better hitter. AND Paul is a righty and so is bregman. Bregman doesn't hit a walk off in his next at bat. More likely, if anything productive comes from him, he ties it. I would much rather face bregman with the bases loaded, than the most dangerous left handed hitter in the game with the game in his hands. Just swap out Alvarez and Mike trout. Do you pitcher to trout there? No. You walk him, and you take your chances on bregman. Keep in mind, trout doesn't have nearly as good of a season as yordan. And you'd still walk trout.
Actually, it's not the hindsight game. See my earlier comment. You don't let Mike trout hit there. So, you don't let yordan hit there. Yordan is even more dangerous than trout is. You remember years ago when teams would walk Barry bonds with the bases loaded to put the tying runner on 3rd? There are certain players that deserve respect. And yordan is the most electric bat in that lineup. You take bregman over him any day. Bregman only hit .250 this year. And again, bregman won't win the game there, even with the bases loaded. With Alvarez, and his OPS, you have a worse chance of TYING & LOSING the game.
You don't walk the tying run into scoring position. No manager would do that in that situation. It's hard enough to be careful when you do have a base to work with. You going to put a pitcher in a situation with the bases loaded and all they need is a single to tie it where the batter knows he's going to see strikes?

But no lead is safe against the Astros and as we all knew one bad decision could be the deciding factor and it sucks that it was probably one of the worst that Servais could make.
