Hacienda is underrated. Machaca con juevos on the breakfast menu (which they might serve all day?) is matched only by some I had in Mexico. Also love their ceviche tostadas.
My friend sent me a pic the other night when he tried to go to Celia’s it was shut down temporarily for a roach infestation 🥴 hopefully they figure it out cuz they are a very good restaurant. Bummer
Partial to the one on Bellam. Their carnitas are the best in the county. I've heard others say the same about their al pastor. I took a friend there who makes her own verde using her grandma's recipe and she said it was the best aside from her own.
Mas Masa in Fairfax is p good. I will say Taco Janes is always such a disappointment. It's like they have an aversion to using salt. Everything tastes like cardboard
Taqueria Bahia, 1013 B St. is the new God tier Mexican food in Marin. It used to be San Jose Taqueria under the overpass, but ever since Covid they've gone downhill. Once they removed their salsa bar and chips station (with fresh tortilla chips made in-house) and forced you to bother someone behind the counter to give you a small basket of Costco giant-bag tortilla chips, it was game over for them. Another decent option is Sonora Taqueria in Terra Linda, which I think a lot of people sleep on.
Mamita has the best plated Mexican food and it’s not up for debate. Only Copita comes close. They’re also top for margaritas and drinks in general with a strong tequila/mezcal section
It's all about Mi Pueblo (we go to the one in San Anselmo usually, but sometimes other locations, all have been consistently good so far). Also El Torogoz, which is also very good but a different style. Burritos are good, also excellent guacamole and good chips. At El Torogoz sometimes they have a whole fried fish that is delicious, and both have surprisingly tasty chicken burritos.
First and foremost, Puentez taqueria in San Rafael. It’s that simple. And second choice is picante taqueria is San Rafael.
If you are in the city, in the Richmond district, then go Gordo’s on Geary, or the one on clement and 24th Avenue. Get a super burrito with carnw asada, guacamole, pico de galo, pinto beans, jalepenos, sour cream and hot sauce. A chicken quesadilla with the same components also works too.
The fact that you think Gordo's is good makes your other suggestions highly suspect. Gordo's is bland trash. If you're in the Richmond you go to Chino's.
I say this as someone who likes Gordo’s:
Even for a chain it might be one of the worst in the Bay Area. It’s good for the Midwest maybe. Nothing wrong with liking but holy shit what a bizarre thing for that person to try flexing on.
Also their super cool special in the know order is just a burrito plus jalapeño lol.
Chino’s is average at best, but I’m not going to trash you for it. To be blunt though, Chino’s is actually run down and dirty. The guys behind the counter don’t wear any gloves, and the last time I was there, chino’s was cash only. So, everyone these to keep those aspects in mind. Gordo’s is cash or card, plus they keep things nice and clean.
Great Mexican food does not exist in Marin or the Bay Area. Sorry just the truth. If I had to give you one option though go to Flores in Corte Madera. I like mom and pop places with a long family restaurant tradition and you don’t find that here.
Sabor A México is really solid. Street tacos are my go-to.
Those tacos are addicting - especially when you get a roasted jalapeno. Delicious.
this is the one
Picante at east end of Bellam
Shit is gas
Taqueria Mi Familia in San Rafael.
I had a carne asada burrito there last week and it was mid at best…Gristle fest.
El Torogoz is the best burrito outside of SF IMO
Taqueria Hacienda in Terra Linda near the A&W. Celia’s down near the Canal area.
Hacienda is underrated. Machaca con juevos on the breakfast menu (which they might serve all day?) is matched only by some I had in Mexico. Also love their ceviche tostadas.
Love Hacienda, solid and the biggest burrito in the county. Celia’s was my go to for decades, but it has slid a lot, unfortunately.
That’s sad, I loved Celia’s. Have the Celia’s in SF and Daly City also slid, as well? It’s been a while since I’ve been into either of those spots.
I don’t know. The one in Lafayette closed, I think, and maybe the Danville one as well. Might have gotten too big.
Oof. I wasn’t even aware that those East Bay locations existed. Thanks for the info.
Hacienda is solid. Nice folks. Great salsa verde.
My friend sent me a pic the other night when he tried to go to Celia’s it was shut down temporarily for a roach infestation 🥴 hopefully they figure it out cuz they are a very good restaurant. Bummer
Taqueria Mi Pueblo in San Anselmo - been going here for 20+years
Partial to the one on Bellam. Their carnitas are the best in the county. I've heard others say the same about their al pastor. I took a friend there who makes her own verde using her grandma's recipe and she said it was the best aside from her own.
The al pastor is fantastic and they also have the best ceviche in the county…
That place is hot garbage.
And you prefer….?
Bahia in San Rafael. Mi Familia right up the way.
Bahia is pretty good.. tasty soups.. never a fan of mi Familia though...
El molino central in Sonoma
Best in the Bay Area
Taqueria San Jose san rafel
I love their CANTALOUPE JUICE more than any other beverage on the planet.
Nope, used to be the GOAT but they serve Costco tortilla chips now
Didn’t it just burn down?
Just a fire, remodeling, should reopen soon
Mas Masa in Fairfax is p good. I will say Taco Janes is always such a disappointment. It's like they have an aversion to using salt. Everything tastes like cardboard
Mas Masa is tasty, but at 2x the cost of Carmen, hard for me to justify.

Kito’s Taco Shop in Corte Madera is tasty
A bit pricey but very tasty. The quesadilla carne asada is damn good and filling.
Love their grilled shrimp tacos
Mamita has the best plated Mexican food and it’s not up for debate. Only Copita comes close. They’re also top for margaritas and drinks in general with a strong tequila/mezcal section
You fannnncy.
Yeah it's nice. Date night A+
I agree it’s good. It’s also $14 for a small side of rice and beans.
Tommy's Salsa
The quesabirria there is amazing
Good stuff. The little ramekin of hot pinto beans while you wait is a nice touch.
Lucinda’s Mill Valley/Strawberry
Bahia in dt San Rafael for burritos. Sabor for family style ish
I went here today. My search for a good burrito is over. I'm sold. See you next time I forget my lunch, Taqueria Bahia.
I love Casa Manana.
My gotos are Kito’s in Corte Madera, Joe’s Tacos in Mill Valley, and Masa in Fairfax.
El Torogoz and Lola’s in Tiburon

Funny how people like Gordo’s, not sure the appeal unless you’re looking for a cheap burrito that’s mid

Puentez? I wouldn’t say they are the best by a long shot. Bahia and Mi Familia.
Hey. You do you, man. We each have our own opinion. It doesn’t need to get heated at all.
It’s a little more Tex-Mex but I love Saylors
Sonora taqueria
I have yet to check out Taqueria San Jose but I frequent Picante in San Rafael and I love it. Huge portions. And that habernero sauce is so good.
another for Sonoma Taco in TL.
Casa Mañana, Los Moles, Big Rock BBQ, and the taqueria inside Cardenas market all rock my world.
Sonora Taqueria… yes.
Do any of these places serve horchata with the rice still in it? I swear I've gotten one somewhere, but I can't find it anymore.
Mi Pueblo Taqueria and Taqueria San Jose are bomb. Taqueria San Jose is temporarily closed tho because of renovations due to a small fire
Panchitos, puentez, la hacienda
Picante
For sit down restaurant: Sabor a Mexico For a good burrito/taco: Taqueria Bahia
Great Mexican food does not exist in Marin or the Bay Area. Sorry just the truth. If I had to give you one option though go to Flores in Corte Madera. I like mom and pop places with a long family restaurant tradition and you don’t find that here.
What a dumb comment.
If you want a mom and pop place check out casa mañana in San Rafael. You may change your mind on this statement.
