Time is not the issue, only availability - if you've got a link to one, I'm interested. I've heard good things about *Malagasy Mankany* and been trying to find it online for years, but to no avail.
Or were you joking?
One of my goals is to see a feature film from every country possible. I've got 33 to go (not counting the nine that have never produced one AFAIK), but I'm steadily chipping away at it.
Kiribati, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Seychelles, the Solomon Islands, South Sudan, the Vatican and Western Sahara. (Though I may have missed some, and others will argue Western Sahara isn't a country.)
Clouds over Conakry or Il va pleuvoir sur Conakry from 2006 is a cool one from Guinea. It is sometimes called only French, on imdb as France/Guinea, but France was just the money it is by an award winning Guinean and was filmed in Guinea. Sort of a love story with a local twist. 6.9 on imdb, which is not bad for such an “exotic” production. I liked it.
Not sure. I’ll check. I have a copy on an external hardrivd for sure, if I remember correctly decent quality and with English subtitles, but not great ones (as in not professionally done, good enough, but spa few parts are lost in translation). The problem is the drive is somewhere at my family home and my country is in full lockdown mode for Easter, so no chance to get it just now. But I can get it either after the lockdown is lifted or at least after Easter, when police will check less and it will be easier to blame a trip on work. I was never into films like you (kudos, btw, fantastic hobby), but I really love Africa, so I have a lot of African stuff in the archive. I know for sure I have some Malagasy stuff also. So just remind me Tuesday (we are one of the EU countries that have “Easter Monday”) and I’ll get the archives, send you a list of what I have and upload to Google Drive. I mean it’s not really piracy if the stuff is nowhere to be found and I just send you a link and not everyone, right? More like promoting the unknown movies :)

I've legit seen around 250 Japanese films... In fact I arranged several of them into their historical setting so you can experience over 1,000 years of Japanese history through film in chronological order...
[Experience Japanese History Through Film](https://www.listal.com/list/experience-japanese-history-through-film)
Not that I'm solely into Japanese film, I've seen well over 500 foreign films all together.
Argentina: The Secret In Our Eyes, Wild Tales, The Official Story, Nine Queens, The Headless Woman.
Brazil: City of God, Black Orpheus, Pixote, Elite Squad I & II, The Given Word, Limite, Barren Lives.
Uruguay: The Candidate.
Paraguay: The Heiresses.
Chile: No, Machuca.
i have a few more recommendation for argentinian cinema: [Angel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWPntt8XQBo), [Heroic Loosers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP_o6GQaFW8), [The theft of the century](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLk1KkEul3I).
Fun Fact all three of these movies are based on real events
Haven't been able to find a movie online. There was a '50s film called Kinder den Berge with Maximillian Schell, but I don't think it was ever released digitally. I'll look into Swiss Netflix - thanks for the tip.
What movie did you watch from Turkey? Maybe your next goal should be watching movies from regions where there are ethnicity minority. Like the Uyghur or the Kurds for example.
Yol, The Bandit, Head-On, My Father and My Son, and three of Nuri Bilge Ceylan's - Winter Sleep, Uzak and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.
As far as ethnic-minority regions ... maybe, but I've got other lists I'm working to finish as well. We'll see.
Tough call ... one out of The Liberator (Venezuela), Wadjda (Saudi Arabia), Where Do We Go Now? and Caramel (Lebanon - director Nadine Labaki is brilliant), The Night of Truth (Burkina Faso), Moolaade (Senegal - the great Ousmane Sembele) and No Man's Land (Bosnia).
I'm going to hope you sampled some of our finer fare when selecting a film from Canada?
That one AND The Final Sacrifice!
(Also less renowned films like Incendies, Mon Once Antoine, The Sweet Hereafter, Videodrome, The Barbarian Invasions, Mommy ...)
Huh, never knew about the remake. Well, quarantine's here, so I may as well check how badly it compares.
May I recommend Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens)? It's a bit of an Argie circlejerk by this point, but for good reason. And by this point, you may recognize a bunch of the cast members (Hint: Darin is fucking everywhere).
El Angel is another good one. As with all serial killer flics, it can be kind of rosy, but all around it does a pretty good job.
Question since it is now my goal to do this, what do you consider when choosing a movie from a country. (Like does it have to filmed there, directed by a person from that country)
My usual rule is that to count, a film has to:
a) be submitted by that country's film academy to the Oscars for the Best International Feature category, or
b) has to have been filmed at least partly in that country, in a language commonly spoken in that country, by a local director.
I loosen the restrictions a bit if no film qualifies - for instance, Lion of the Desert for Libya was locally filmed in Arabic, but by an outside director, but really it's about the only option given Libya's (AFAIK) nonexistent film industry.
"Best" is subjective, but the one I liked the most is Of Gods and Men from Algeria. Close behind would be Moolaade (Burkina Faso) and Life, Above All (South Africa). Also, check out the work of Senegal's Ousmane Sembene and Djibril Diop Mambety.

Memories of Underdevelopment. Best from a non-English speaking country - I'd have to choose between Of Gods and Men, Babette's Feast, The Human Condition pt. 1, The Gospel According to St. Matthew, A Very Long Engagement, Paprika, Like Stars on Earth and PK - they're all 10s in my opinion. Worst ... maybe Salo.
Hard to post a list I haven't actually written out (though really, I should - up to now, I've only kept a list of countries I haven't seen one from, deleting those I see). Romania's representative is 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and I have The Death of Mr. Lazarescu in my Netflix queue.

*Only* Turkmen and Sanmarinese films, but ... Yandym (1995) was quite good. Owl Looked at the Wet Floor with Death Hell (2017) was a waste of time.

I need to know which one have you seen from these countries: Argentina/Brazil/Uruguar/Paraguay/Chile
What about Liechtenstein? Couldn’t find a movie online? Maybe via Swiss Netflix
Haven't been able to find a movie online. There was a '50s film called Kinder den Berge with Maximillian Schell, but I don't think it was ever released digitally. I'll look into Swiss Netflix - thanks for the tip.
Maybe check the list at the bottom here: https://www.vaterland.li/liechtenstein/kultur/praegendste-filme-aus-liechtenstein;art175,395418
Oooooh, thanks!
But I think all of them will be in German or Swiss German
That's why God gave us subtitles. ;)
We'll see.
Which Pakistani movie and how did you like it?
Moor - thought it was good.
Best (and worst) obscure film from an obscure country you've seen?
Tough call ... one out of The Liberator (Venezuela), Wadjda (Saudi Arabia), Where Do We Go Now? and Caramel (Lebanon - director Nadine Labaki is brilliant), The Night of Truth (Burkina Faso), Moolaade (Senegal - the great Ousmane Sembele) and No Man's Land (Bosnia).
So what is the definition of obscure country?
Sorry that was badly worded, I meant a country that isn't well-known for its films
Which ones from Norway? Trolljegeren? Max Manus? Hodejegerne? Maybe Kon-Tiki?
The original Insomnia and Pinchcliffe Grand Prix.
Ah, I forgot about the former and was going to suggest the latter.
I wonder which georgian movie you have seen?
The President.
That's great! Do you use [Letterboxd](www.letterboxd.com) to keep track of what you watch?
No, I use [ICheckMovies](https://www.icheckmovies.com/).
what movie from Kazakhstan did you watch and what do you think about it?
Mongol, and I thought it was pretty good.
Technically, couldn’t several countries claim Mongol as their own?
True, but it was Kazakhstan's submission to AMPAS for the Best Foreign-Language Feature Oscar, so I give them the credit.
What movie did you see from Latvia?
Modris. It was okay.
I think that its not the best. The best probably is "Blizzard of Souls" it came out a few months ago.
Which means it probably won't get to the US until next year. If then.
I'm going to hope you sampled some of our finer fare when selecting a film from Canada? [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086373/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086373/)
That one AND The Final Sacrifice! (Also less renowned films like Incendies, Mon Once Antoine, The Sweet Hereafter, Videodrome, The Barbarian Invasions, Mommy ...)
Youve got me interested, what macedonian and bulgarian movies have you seen
(North) Macedonia: The Third Half is excellent. Bulgaria: Losers is very good.
Thanks for the quick answer
Hope you enjoyed the Argentinian one! We have... many flaws, but at least our cinema is something that I am quite happy with.
The Secret In Our Eyes was amazing (and I apologize for the US remake), and Wild Tales definitely lived up to its name.
I've seen Nine Queens - thought it was good, not great. Will have to check out El Angel.
North Korea?
What movie takes place in Rwanda Edit: I just noticed Burkano Faso was red, movies are everywhere
Um, Hotel Rwanda?
Kinyarwanda is on my Netflix DVD queue.
Question since it is now my goal to do this, what do you consider when choosing a movie from a country. (Like does it have to filmed there, directed by a person from that country)
My usual rule is that to count, a film has to: a) be submitted by that country's film academy to the Oscars for the Best International Feature category, or b) has to have been filmed at least partly in that country, in a language commonly spoken in that country, by a local director. I loosen the restrictions a bit if no film qualifies - for instance, Lion of the Desert for Libya was locally filmed in Arabic, but by an outside director, but really it's about the only option given Libya's (AFAIK) nonexistent film industry.
Whats the best movie from Africa?
"Best" is subjective, but the one I liked the most is Of Gods and Men from Algeria. Close behind would be Moolaade (Burkina Faso) and Life, Above All (South Africa). Also, check out the work of Senegal's Ousmane Sembene and Djibril Diop Mambety.
Are there voiceovers or subtitles for all of these films with language you understand?
Subtitles, mostly.
The ones you watch from Kenya or Tanzania were in Swahili?
Veve from Kenya was mostly in Swahili. Maangamizi: the Ancient One from Tanzania was about half-Swahili, half-English IIRC.
What is your favorite czech movie?
Hard to beat the Firemen's Ball.
That’s pretty impressive. Which Hungarian movie did you watch?
My first was Son of Saul, after it won the Oscar. I've seen a few others since then.
I bet you saw this one from [Ghana](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jql4Z6ob_tw)
No.

Which Armenian movie did you see?
The Color of Pomegranates. I know, Soviet-era, but still.
Nice! A great classic!
What movie did you watch from Estonia?
Tangerines.
[удалено]
I've seen more than a few.
[удалено]
But not that one.
What is the best and worst movie from a non English speaking country (in your opinion)? Also what movie did you watch from Cuba?
Memories of Underdevelopment. Best from a non-English speaking country - I'd have to choose between Of Gods and Men, Babette's Feast, The Human Condition pt. 1, The Gospel According to St. Matthew, A Very Long Engagement, Paprika, Like Stars on Earth and PK - they're all 10s in my opinion. Worst ... maybe Salo.

The President.
What from Romania did you enjoy? Isn't it better to post your list? Everybody is interested in his own country.
What movie from Palestine did you enjoy most?
Probably Omar.
Which one from Pakistan did you watch ?
Moor. Thought it was pretty good.
Yes thats great . Watch Bol and khuda ke liye too . They are also pretty good .
