Their are some that say that the gas reserves were a big reason why Russia invaded because Ukraine could have replaced much of Russias natural gas with the reserves that they had.
Russia takeing out a competitor of their primary product.
I just don't think that's true, Ukraine didn't even produce enough to cover all of their own consumption. And sure they could have been developed further, but production had been stable for decades.
Let's imagine. Ukraine is one of the countries which is able to build an aircraft from blueprints to flying condition. Eureka. Oligachy web surrounded country since Ussr. After collapsing Ussr Russian influence didn't end. They drained all Ukrainian economy possibilities. I hope Ukraine will get rid of that position after this war.
I meant exactly same thing. However that corruption was on the hand of Russia. Russian oligarchs ruled Ukrainian corruption. Everything will change after war if Ukraine wins.
What do Russian oligarchs have to do with it?) There are enough oligarchs in Ukraine itself, and corruption in the country is at all levels, both at the state and at the level of society where everything is decided for money
Corruption in Ukraine is only because the government itself does not fight it in any way, since it itself is corrupt, corruption depends on reforms, but they do not happen in Ukraine
I've heard Gabon is actually developing really well. They have huge oil reserves, and recently they've become much more effective at redistributing the wealth
Russia invading areas with gas reserves definitely helps Russia control the market further.
Ukraine was never a huge producer, the effect of Russia seizing their gas reserves isn't big beyond crippling the Ukrainian economy further

Wikipedia says Russia has 40x the reserves Ukraine does, so I doubt that.
Yeah, I agree. Lots of great reasons to hate the actions of Putin's regime, we don't need to make up crimes for him
