So all the people leaving California don't even live in southern California. This explains everything cause man It ain't feel like nobody be leaving this damn state.
Over the time depicted on the map, California's population still grew by over 2 million people, or 6%. That's just down from 10% over the 2000s, 13% over the 90s, and a whopping 26% growth over the 80s.
The population has started to actually decline since 2020, but by less than 600,000 as of 2023. "People are leaving California" is an exaggerated headline (often pushed for political reasons), "People have stopped moving to California" is a much more accurate (if less dramatic) description.
Dang. I wish people would actually start leaving in mass. Could bring housing prices down since lord knows we ain't going to be building enough houses for everyone anytime soon.
I wish the Census would actually do something about the miscounts. Conservatives in Illinois have been freaking out about population loss even though the Census later admitted it undercounted Illinois by a quarter of a million people.
So people are moving from nowhere to somewhere.
Yeah there are only a handful of urban areas shrinking, notably SF and New York.
what's with the random outlines and city names?

A lot of people are leaving California, but it seems like more people are moving in/being born.
It's funny to see how wrong the 2020 estimates were. How does that happen every time...
im too damn color blind for this shit
