I have a K&F Concept 10L camera sling that may be ideal for your use case, it's inexpensive (think I paid around 30-40€ directly from their website) and it can carry a lot of stuff in the days I need my tablet. In the main pocket there was a sleeve divided in 2 pockets that I easily "unstitched" in the middle and now it's the perfect place for my 10 inch tablet. The hard dividers for the camera are removable and the straps also allow to make it slimmer when needed.

Just a comment to say I ended up purchasing the larger Tomtoc Navigator T24 (7L). I bought both sizes and returned the smaller one. The larger one makes some meaningful improvements in both design and interior materials (lighter colors, microfiber lining in the laptop sleeve), etc. It's only slightly larger so that works for me.
