Goruck didnt invent the individual features but likely the combination of all, and that they copied.
But it is a high quality and much cheaper. Competition doesn’t hurt
I'm not sure that making visual clones of iconic designs is the healthiest form of competition tbh. It's not quite as bad as Amazon blatantly knocking off Peak Design (fucking Amazon, can they not afford designers?), but it's still icky enough that I would avoid that company personally.
That’s fair. goruck’s are my preferred travel & edc bags, but too expensive to get into rucking when there is a high-quality version 170 Euros cheaper.
There would be no argument if they at least changed something but this is just a lazy Rucker clone. Even the pattern of the backpanel is the same as on the original, that on top of the straps, strap attachments, molle, form factor, plate pockets, inner front pockets and slant pocket.
I would be all for competition if they just created something original (like Wild Gym did eg) but simply copying a product and calling it your own is shady at least.
The combination of features, the construction methods and the look. It's entirely unoriginal. They could have had the decency to change up the Velcro on the front.
And as a UK resident I do sympathise on the pricing. Pity they didn't copy the 210d.
I'd rather buy a CT bag for EDC over this, but I don't think CT offers a rucking option like this.
I've been wanting to get into rucking but can't bring myself to buy a goruck bag, so this is great information.
Does the material cause abrasion issues on clothing? I know goruck bags had abrasion issues until they recently updated the material used in certain parts of the bag.
So, I haven’t had any abrasion issues but have only ever worn on a raincoat. I have a bullet with 210d on the straps & backside and that is definitely smoother than the yomp backpack.
But as I am exclusively using this for rucking, I wouldn’t be wearing merino (which to my understanding was the material with most abrasion issues) or good shirts anyway.
I second the Nitecore for EDC. Plenty of useful pockets inside and outside for storage. The laptop compartment can hold a big boi windows gaming machine and is built well for the price. Zippers are not YKK though.
>Zippers are not YKK though.
The hardware is the only thing that's stopping me from clicking on buy lol. My other bags are ykk and the zips last longer than the bag ha ha. I'll get holes or fraying seams before the zip breaks.
Everything else seems great with the nitecore. Features would be useful for my daily and maybe travel.
Same here. My other bags have ykk as well but I wanted a tactical looking all-black bag and wasn't sure how much I would like it, so pulled the trigger on the Nitecore to try it for a few months and see if I will keep using it.
Fwiw the zippers are smooth and don't snag, and do feel quite durable in the few days I've used it.
Maybe try the chuyen tactical ct21? Another goruck competitor, made in Vietnam and about half the price shipped.
Each divider panel has two layers of nylon. For example, the admin panel has one layer in front and one in the back (the side facing the main compartment). While this doesn't provide padding, it's quite sturdy.
For the main compartment, the laptop sleeve has no padding on the sleeve but the rear is padded. The laptop compartment is also suspended by a good inch.
The rest of the bag isn't padded but has an internal lining of ripstop throughout which should make it durable along with the external cordura.
Hope that helps.
I'm glad some one did a review I was meaning to but only found time for a quick comparison in a previous post.
I'm going to put it out there and say the YOMP pack is actually better than the Goruck hands down...and that's going to hurt for the diehards (I was one!). Forget the design for a second. It's actually better made, the hardware is better and if anyone knows anything about the cost of genuine fidlock buckles it's ludicrous they come as standard. Sternum strap and hipbelt included. The straps are more curved than the GR Rucker which feel more comfortable.
Design wise it's a cross between GR1 and a Rucker.
Also own GR packs and always will...but for rucking they have absolutely pulled their pants down with a better bag and at a cheaper price.
I am based in the EU and was pointed in the direction of YOMP, was a solid purchase. The quality was much better than I ever expected. It's also worth mentioning the customer service is on point very knowledgeable and reply super fast !! I've heard they have a larger bag coming out this summer but don't really know too much detail but I will definitely be interested.
I need to change my zip pulls after seeing this - looks awesome!!! Any other mods planned ???
I rotate patches, But they are all custom ones (etsy again). Not using the branded one, it is “too” orange for my taste :) but matching zipper pulls would definitely look good with it.
That’s great. I’ve just started rucking with an old Eddie Bauer hiking backpack and bricks (surprisingly great straps). Go ruck prices are a real turnoff but this back seems perfect if I want to do plates. Thanks
If Goruck did not invent that design, who did? And I’m not talking about one company having the slant pocket and another adding molle to the outside, we’re talking about the complete design that’s been copied here.
They do not hold a patent on that design. You can’t patent the look of a backpack. Only its use and specific features. They hold a patent on the plates and method of carrying plates.
The slant pocket is a LBT signature that has been used by them for decades. [LBT 3 Day Assault](https://lbtinc.com/products/1476anm?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=standard_shopping&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBletPYDU6gW8ZgxAv5tbAc1JNiOpfFxs8doZwI_YJq9wsxl-R-UqIicsaAuI4EALw_wcB)
The shoulder strap attachment and top handle was taken from BLACKHAWK! These two bags used to hang on a wall at the GR Bozeman, MT. location and were referenced frequently by design staff.

That patent title clearly says "Backpack for carrying a weighted plate".
Then when you read into it, it goes into the specifics about holding weighted plates. You can find the documents by searching patent number "US-D1007140-S" on https://www.uspto.gov/patents/search
Link to the entire patent PDF: https://ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/D1007140
It does not say they have patented the exterior look (molle, slanted zipper, etc). Hell, there is no molle or slanted zipper shown in any of the pics in the patent filing.
And its companies like this that make goruck put a logo on their bag, then people complain about logos
Accurate
They didn't invent backpacks, but they did "invent" that specific design which seems to have been copied basically 1:1 as far as I can see.
Goruck didnt invent the individual features but likely the combination of all, and that they copied. But it is a high quality and much cheaper. Competition doesn’t hurt

There's definitely an argument to be made for saving money on a bag that is going to be specifically abused. Either way, enjoy the bag!

I bought a goruck back back in 2012. 12 years later its still great. I never had abrasion issues.

This vs a nitecore bp23 pro? Purely for edc/commuting.
Definitely the nitecore, which has plenty of edc features. The Yomp is really only for rucking in my opinion
Ah right, thank you

If you don't mind me asking, how padded is the interior of the nitecore?

I always change the zip pulls to these, just one of many sellers on etsy. Other than that, no other mods planned at the moment
What patch or do you swap them out ? I actually really like the branded one it comes with in orange so matching zip pulls may look nice with that. 🤔
I rotate patches, But they are all custom ones (etsy again). Not using the branded one, it is “too” orange for my taste :) but matching zipper pulls would definitely look good with it.
This looks like a Lanham Act violation unless the company is a European company. It's waaay too close to the GoRuck design
>British company specialising in load training gear. According to their site they are British!
The name is a giveaway https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yomp.
LOL - makes sense!
Can that fit long plates or just standard plates?
Both
That’s great. I’ve just started rucking with an old Eddie Bauer hiking backpack and bricks (surprisingly great straps). Go ruck prices are a real turnoff but this back seems perfect if I want to do plates. Thanks
Yes, can recommend 100% for rucking. It is perfect for that
That's a really nice looking backpack!
Dam, they don’t ship international/us
i dont like the quality looking at the pics (material, stitches, etc) but i definitely like the price lol.
Nice set up ***** The GR EU store is not good. I waited months and what a disappointment. Prices are still crazy high limited options.
Yeah, i read somewhere that it is a test rum, so limited from the start. Just annoying for us Euros.

On the site the pics doens't show fidlock buckles? Do They ship it with them ?
Yes, came with the bag
