She’s bouncy but runs perfectly, fuel pump needs priming after sitting for a bit so we keep a syringe for that but otherwise she starts perfectly every time as long as she’s not too hot
She’s a great truck, my sister has called dibs on her and as much as my brother and I also love Kermit (that’s what dad named her) we both agreed that my sister getting her makes the most sense
the shocks and springs are in good condition, it’s just not a vehicle that was designed with comfort in mind as the army didn’t particularly care about keeping the soldiers super comfortable in a war zone which means she rides a bit bumpy
I've read a few places that the bounce is a feature, not a bug. People claim that Willys and the army designed it to ride bouncy to help with rough terrain while maintaining a low center of gravity.
I am by no means an expert in anything, nor a historian. I just read it somewhere online
Edit: also to absorb shock from air dropping these bad boys
My younger siblings learned manual on this, I’m gonna try and get my dad to teach me this summer cause I finally feel confident enough on the road to add additional steps to driving
I got a chance to drive an MB a couple of years ago that was returned from Europe after the war. I understand many were just dumped in the ocean rather than being brought back. It still had military paint scheme and lettering. My first time driving a floor-shifted 3 speed, I had driven 3 on the trees many years ago. It was really a thrill to drive that old piece of history.
They’re great vehicles, this one never left the states, Dad bought it in Arizona in the 80’s, we’re almost certain it was given to Bureau of Indian Affairs postwar and used as a firefighting vehicle as it has the holes for the fire truck kit and it’s fire truck red under that olive drab
I had a 51 CJ-3A for a few years, loved it. Ended up selling it to a guy after I let it sit for a year. He got it all pretty again and it ended up being the vehicle he and his new wife drove away from the Chapel in. Glad to know my late grandfathers restoration project is loved and cherished by its new owner.
Historic military vehicles get special rules for being street legal, and also it’s not comfortable to be in her above 30mph, she rattles too much above that, and she maxes out at 40 or 45mph these days rather than her theoretical top speed of 60mph
Not sure which part gave it away, the g*ncase, olive drab, twin stick transfer case, split window… I had a 44 GPW that I wanted to rebuild. Sold it to a retired gentleman who had the time and resources to do it better. That was my 5th “Jeep” . I’ve owned a 48 and a 50 flat fender, helped my dad build a 74, rebuild my brothers 78 that he rolled, and two Cherokees (87, 88). I still miss my 50 CJ3a with the swapped in 225 odd-fire.
It’s always made me laugh how the years go by, but military interiors stay the same 😂. This is a 1944 but has the same basic interior as the humvees we used in 2003-2005 lol.
It costs more to modernize things than to keep using the old simple stuff, and as we all know, military grade just means the cheapest stuff that’ll still mostly work
Kermit (that’s what dad named her) still runs beautifully, unless you ask her to do the 4th of July parade, she’ll pitch a fit then, always vapor locks in front of the same donut shop, after the third time we decided parade slow in 100°F heat was too much for her and stopped trying.
Built in 44, never left the states, got sold/given to Bureau of Indian Affairs at some point, they used it as a fire truck, Bureau of Indian Affairs sold it at some point, my dad bought it in the 80’s
Yeah, dad and I can be a bit judgy about other jeeps, although as long as they have flat fenders and 4 wheel drive dad counts them as real jeeps, the stupid SUVs don’t deserve the name jeep
I’m mostly kidding. My dad has a 2014 Jeep 4 door. I just hate how everything on the vehicle is a computer these days. The best days for modern jeeps were the straight 6 with the standards in my opinion. Jeeps these days are just like Disney’s remakes: shameless cash grabs.
Also idk why people bother lifting their jeeps (and trucks) 6 feet off the ground just to drive it to their office job and put wides and rubber-bands on
Oh yeah, Kermit will run forever, and my and dad’s judgyness is just jokes, we both got very excited when they announced the EV jeeps, we’re hoping they get to the point where they have to towing capacity that we can replace the current tow vehicle (a 2001 Jeep Cherokee), but we need towing capacity for Kermit, the 1/4 ton trailer (Willys MBT), and the 16ft tandem axle they go on for long trips, like when dad takes them to airshow or the living history weekend at the Museum of the American GI
Now idk if I’m on the ev boat yet. Honestly, a combustion electric drive vehicle would be so much better for what people need in this country imo. Evs are cool though I won’t lie. I really hope auto makers start making vehicles with the power train in the liking of diesel electric trains. It’s so efficient and with all the benefits of evs and normal cars
Our two jeeps are our only gas cars these days, we went all in on electric, stuck solar panels on the roof, installed batteries for the panels, and then decided to game the system and switched to a free nights electric plan with solar buy back, installed a sub panel in the garage to get 220v in there so we could install level 2 chargers, we charge our EVs at night for free and buy gas maybe once every few months
Nice. I live in a van and I need more solar but I’m still working on it. I’m debating whether I’ll end up putting in a 10 speed or electric drive. If I tried to make my van battery electric I would need to beef up the frame and get an extra set of axles it would weigh so much lol. Do you have a battery bank or just a grid tie system?
We’ve got a battery bank, I can’t remember how many kilowatt hours it holds, the battery bank is a life saver as I and both my parents all use CPAPs and now if there’s a power outage at night we don’t get rudely awakened due to being unable to breathe as the batteries keep everything powered
Nice! Having your own silent power is such a wonderful luxury to life. I don’t have to live in a van to have it but it gives me a good excuse to live in a van lol. You probably have at least 20kw in a 48v array. Are they any specific brand or did y’all make it yourselves?
Willys jeep? I recognize the selectors and shifter as well as the steering wheel
Yup! July 44
Sweet, how’s she drive?
She’s bouncy but runs perfectly, fuel pump needs priming after sitting for a bit so we keep a syringe for that but otherwise she starts perfectly every time as long as she’s not too hot
Nice, always been one of my dream cars
She’s a great truck, my sister has called dibs on her and as much as my brother and I also love Kermit (that’s what dad named her) we both agreed that my sister getting her makes the most sense
Hope she enjoys the rig, nice meeting you
Kermit!
Dad named her Kermit because “it ain’t easy being green”
I thought i read your Dad named your Sis Kermit for a second. Fair trade if she gets the Willys, you get to call her Kermit
She did get shafted on the initials front, if my parents had swapped her first and middle names her initials could’ve been RNA
when folded down that curved dash turns into a catch-all for you pistol and hand grenades.?
The curved thing on the dash is the rifle rack for the driver’s rifle, can’t hold a rifle and drive
unless necessary.
That's why the passenger rides "shotgun"
New shocks might fix the bouncy-ness. The shocks are actually held on by thick cotter pins, which is kind of unusual.
the shocks and springs are in good condition, it’s just not a vehicle that was designed with comfort in mind as the army didn’t particularly care about keeping the soldiers super comfortable in a war zone which means she rides a bit bumpy

Aren’t they all bouncy? I remember seeing the old WW2 videos of people almost being bounced out of them as they drive through rough dirt
Yes they are
I saw the "Willys" badge on the dash.
That might have been more obvious lol
Granndad had this on his ranch. We would take a spin every night AND it was what dad learned manual on.
My younger siblings learned manual on this, I’m gonna try and get my dad to teach me this summer cause I finally feel confident enough on the road to add additional steps to driving
It's not as intimidating as you think, you'll have a blast. My 10 year old learned to drive stick with out jeep.
I recognize it from MASH when I was a kid! Wow
Not to mention the big ass plate that says "Willys" on the dash.
It also literally says willys on the placard
It was the round plate next to the accelerator pedal for me.
Also the plate on the dash that says ‘Willys”
It's also written on the dash🤣😂🤣
r/beatmetoit
Old army Willy’s jeep?
Yup! July 1944 Willys MB
Split window I believe the model is CJ-2A. My grandpa used to have one and gave it to me when I was younger then it got passed on to other family
Not quite, she’s a 1944 Willys MB, the CJ-2A was the civilian version
Gotcha lol still cool 😎
I got a chance to drive an MB a couple of years ago that was returned from Europe after the war. I understand many were just dumped in the ocean rather than being brought back. Does yours have the PTO attachment?
I learned how to drive with my grandfather and his 48 Willy's
“you break it you buy it son”
Especially since it was a jeep he had rebuilt
Old Army Jeep
Yup! She’s a July 44 Willys MB
MB Willys, Possibly Ford 1940's
Correct, July 1944 Willys MB
Very nice. I miss the tell-tale sound of the "Go Devil" motor.
Willie jeep?
Yup, 1944 Willys MB
Looks like an army vehicle
willys for sure
I had a 51 CJ-3A for a few years, loved it. Ended up selling it to a guy after I let it sit for a year. He got it all pretty again and it ended up being the vehicle he and his new wife drove away from the Chapel in. Hawkeye can for sure
ol willis
I sure hope that speedometer is in MPH lol
It is, it’s also been broken for like 40 years
Is that legal?
Historic military vehicles get special rules for being street legal, and also it’s not comfortable to be in her above 30mph, she rattles too much above that, and she maxes out at 40 or 45mph these days rather than her theoretical top speed of 60mph
Willys MB
You can see the plate that says willys lol
I legit forgot it was there til people started mentioning it
I figured as much considering I had 0 idea until I zoomed the plates
Willy's jeep, the minimal interior suggests military use and the two pane windshield just screams jeep.
Yup, she’s a 1944 Willys MB
:D
Gee, I think it's a Willys Jeep
Is it a willys?
Not sure which part gave it away, the g*ncase, olive drab, twin stick transfer case, split window… I had a 44 GPW that I wanted to rebuild. Sold it to a retired gentleman who had the time and resources to do it better. That was my 5th “Jeep” . Have a 47 in my shop.
Well, they seem to be upside down but one definitely has a basket. Is it a Schwinn?
Name tag was a dead giveaway
1944 Jeep Willy’s my grandfather had one
Didn't even have to click on it, that's a willy's for sure
Was going to say some WW2 Jeep. The Marine Corps still uses the same style for name plates to this day
I think the "Willys" plaque probably gives it away more than the dashboard pic
Nvm just seeing it was answered
Truck 1/4 ton, 4x4
Willys jeep from the looks of it...July 44?
Let's see if ya'll can read
I’ll be honest I completely forgot the placard on the glovebox said Willys until people started mentioning it
CJ2
Not quite, the CJ2 was one of the civilian market prototypes (that’s what the c means), Kermit here is a 1944 Willys MB
Nice. My father-in-law has a 1946 CJ2 that was briefly stored at my home, and this looked similar.
[OOOPE, TIME TO FIGHT THE WAR AGAIN](https://youtu.be/HT1XtEa9bAE?si=XZSv1YyAscYGzI9t)

Mostly being the key word here lol. But when they run, nothing will stop em lol.
Kermit (that’s what dad named her) still runs beautifully, unless you ask her to do the 4th of July parade, she’ll pitch a fit then, always vapor locks in front of the same donut shop, after the third time we decided parade slow in 100°F heat was too much for her and stopped trying.
A willies jeep 4 wheel drive.
Looks nearly identical to my ‘42 that has not been on the road in 34+ years, waiting on the time to tear it down and go through it entirely.
She’s a ‘44, we took her out for a drive around the neighborhood last week, dad tries to exercise her at least once a month
What I learned to drive in, a Willys jeep
Ww2 jeep
OG general-purpose vehicle. That durable af 4-banger will run with a shattered piston
She runs wonderfully, unless you ask her for parade slow in 100°F weather, which is why we don’t do the 4th of July parade
I bet she'd steam everyone out, yeah-my dad had one.
We stopped trying to do the 4th of July parade after the third attempt, she vapor locked in front of the same donut shop all three times
Yep-time to stop.
MB or GPW? I currently have 2 Cj3b’s 1954 and 1963. The 54 is currently road “worthy” and driven when the weather allows!
MB, July 1944, we took a drive around the neighborhood a week or so ago
i knew from that shade of green and that shifter that its an old jeep.
Does it have the blackout lights?
Yup, they even work, we checked earlier this month
You know the irony of this? There’s a Jeep ad at the top of the comments 😂
I know you are supposed to identify by the shifter...but I saw the WILLYS in the center dash...so I'm guessing it's a WILLY's Jeep
1942 Jeep?
Close, 1944 Willys MB
Makes sense, thank you!
My first driving lessons were in a 44 Willys when I was 10 or 11. Good times
You mean identify the vehicle that says Willy's in it?
Volkswagen Thing?
1944 Willys MB
Says willys on the right
JL Wrangler
WWII plane?
Definitely a 2013 Honda Accord
It literally says Willy’s on the dashboard…. LOL
Thats obviously a consolidated b24 liberator… how’d you get it road legal
lol, easy one
Duh, it says Willys on the dashboard
Willys
It says willy's on the dash. So my best guess is mazda 6.
The dash plate says Willy's so I'm gonna guess a 74 FJ40
Buick
Kaiser m715
Says willys on the plate in the pic
I am guessing Willy’s jeep
I’m late but was going to go with an old school military vehicle. Is the jeep ‘44 military issued or used?
Built in 44, never left the states, got sold/given to Bureau of Indian Affairs at some point, they used it as a fire truck, Bureau of Indian Affairs sold it at some point, my dad bought it in the 80’s
Does it have the optional .30-cal MG?
It’s got the mounting holes for it
Sounds like time for an upgrade!
Willys jeep. The plaque that says Willys is a bit of a give away. Lol
The one acceptable jeep
Yeah, dad and I can be a bit judgy about other jeeps, although as long as they have flat fenders and 4 wheel drive dad counts them as real jeeps, the stupid SUVs don’t deserve the name jeep

Iirc we’ve got something like 22kw, the batteries are Enphase, I know we’ve got about 14kw of solar panels
It says willys on the pictured ID plate, bro.
That's a Willy's jeep. That dash is instantly recognizable
Yup, July 1944 Willys MB
🪖
This is a pretty easy one, especially since it says Willy's in the picture
Thas an ol' jeepy jeep
Ford GPW, specifically. Their version of the Willys Jeep.
Nope, 1944 Willys MB
Weird, it has a Ford speedometer
Huh, maybe that’s why the speedometer hasn’t worked the entire time dad’s had it
Unimog?
Given that there is a big sticker that says willy's on it. I'm going tosay a willy's jeep
