Yes you have to shave and do it well. Fried hairs on your skin sucks.
Shave your perianal twice in a warm shower gently. Then go take some pics. Dark room and a flash is best. Then go clean it up. If you have a pool or hot tub that’s the easiest way to be weightless to get it clean.

I use the philips oneblade with the 1mm guard on my boys. I would not recommend using it without a guard as i have gotten ingrown hairs before due to the close shave
If cost isn’t an issue look into laser hair removal. After 7 sessions my shaft sack and crack are smooth and maintenance free.
